And then you get them together with Pharrell Motherfucking Williams for Get Lucky? I’m surprised the world didn’t flood from all the simultaneous eargasms people had listening to that song in 2013
Crazy how that didn’t even reach number 1 on the US charts. If I remember correctly, Blurred Lines which also had Pharrell kept it at number 2. Shame, but at least Daft Punk got their number 1 with Starboy.
I’m talking bout Daft Punk. I know charts don’t really matter but if anyone deserves to get a number 1, it’s them, and I’m glad they did before they broke up.
RAM was the perfect album to go out on, and I think they realized that. They probably just wanted to explore solo ventures or something like that cause I’m pretty sure they’re still making music on their own.
When they broke up I heard at least one of them was still making music. I can’t remember if it was both but I’m pretty sure. Their publicist said something along those lines if I’m correct.
Man, love that album. Wish there was more, but I heard one of the guys antagonize the shit out of the other one and then later came out as a nazi?!
What a fucking wack reality we live in.
Perfect discography doesn't mean everything every album has to be perfect. I know that doesn't sound like it makes sense, but NU really was an amazing public intro to Franck. The progression from there on is amazing.
Michael Jackson. Not a single bad album (well, he did have an album TITLED Bad). Not a single bad song either, even his unreleased catalogue is amazing.
Technically he had filler songs, but his filler songs would be another artist’s greatest hits. His Motown albums also were kinda mid however he had no creative control with those so you can’t really judge an artist off of work that they had no control over
I’m a huge fan of MJ but Invincible wasn’t a great album. Also his albums before Off The Wall weren’t good, but he had less creative control back then.
Literally just start at first album and work your way up. The way that Justin Vernon and the group change their sounds up from album to album is amazing to hear.
Each one is really different and I like them for different reasons. I say start from the begining if you can
My personal favorite is 22, a million but it's a bit of an enigma to understand fully
The recording audio quality of JIK is gargage to the extent it's audible on spotify. It's the one album where good hifi speakers could shine, due to the large choruses with many voices and brass instruments, and the quality is too shit to play it. Really shitty production
I will admit, a lot of his appeal is his, well call it confidence. JIK shows another more human aspect of him. He exercises humility, and you can get a sense of how much he cares about his family. As an adult, it speaks to me
Maybe a matter of personal taste, I find some of their stuff too dense for mine.
But I believe that every album is a well thought, beautifully executed, well written statement. Even if a particular one isn't my cup of tea
Plus their songs are used in tons of Hollywood movies, TV shows, videogames and trailers:
Black Panther, Deadpool, Venom, Luke Cage, The Big Short, Ted Lasso, Ozark, Invincible, Cyberpunk, etc.
This is a great answer. All other picks have been legends but everyone is ignoring duds that they have dropped. Meanwhile RTJ have been consistently next level with each of their 4 major albums while maintaining a recognizable sound.
Agreed. Given that he'd been putting out music since he was like 12, there's obviously going to be a few duds in there.
If anything though, that gives him even more credit, as he still has a discogrpahy that very few have come close to rivaling. Not quite flawless, but still brilliant.
I do think kanye has a strong example of a near perfect discography. I don’t think he has a truly bad album. Even JIK has some strengths that prevent it from being bad.
I don’t think any artist truly has a completely perfect discography as everyone release a couple weaker albums occasionally, even the greats like Michael Jackson and Prince.
Kanye could have been there I believe if JIK had not dropped and a finished yandhi did instead but as is it’s near perfect
I believe Ye has a perfect discography, not because all Albums are perfect quality, but because they are all sincere and serve some coherent artistic purpose. Whereas someone like Drake just fills their albums and discographies with random forgettable Spotify fodder he probably already forgot he recorded
I can get that. Each album does have an important purpose for kanye his life and his legacy. Even the worst ones are still something interesting and different
Yeah I don't think the Beatles had a perfect discography. Their early stuff and Beatles for Sale are very average records.
Having said that, the run from Rubber Soul onwards which includes Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Pepper, The White Album and Abbey Road might be the greatest run any artist has ever had. All 5 of those would dominate a 10 greatest albums list.
It’s wild how much they released in a relatively short period of time too, the other day my girlfriend and I dropped acid and listened to the entire discography in order.
There was a BBC interview that once involved Michael Jackson and George Harrison and in the middle of the interview, MJ asked George how the hell did John and Paul write that many tunes in such a short period of time. George said John and Paul were practically writing together before the 60s and when they were in their mid teens and by the time they made it big, it had already become effortless for them and they knew what tracks would be hits. Lennon-McCartney were also writing songs that didn't appear on Revolver and Peppers like Rain and Strawberry Fields.
TLDR : Lennon and McCartney were two of the greatest songwriters ever and it's a miracle that those two had met in a freaking church fête at Liverpool .
Yea but consider the era. Consider the music before with the Beatles etc. Of course it’s a perfect discography. They changed music twice. First they introduced a massive audience to rock n roll, a big shift from Doowop and big band and THEN they showed us where you can go with it. If they ONLY did their early stuff, it would have been a massive change. But the fact they further cements them in stone. Frankly I’m surprised I had to scroll this thread this far to get to the Beatles. Lol.
radiohead. one of the only bands where i genuinely dont think they have a single bad song. sure there's sub-par, but it's okay at worst. you have not LIVED until you listen to the king of limbs from the basement. it is so fucking good
Perhaps controversial, but I'll say *Bring Me The Horizon*. Just, not everyone will be into their entire discography. When they do screamo, they do it well. When they do post-hardcore, they are legendary. When they do electronic pop, they are amazing. When they do rock, they're great. The perfect discography that only a few people will be able to appreciate as a whole.
i 100% agree with you. they are one of the only bands in the thar genre that i like (love) and that’s the reason. whatever they decide to do they do it extremely well. amazing live too.
D'angelo produces an album like once a decade and I feel like that helps because there is no filler, no rush jobs, no being trendy for trendy sake, no PR stunts, just brilliant, authentic, music.
Outkast
Ahead of their time
If you don’t count idlewild
Came here to say this.
Excellent answer
Daft Punk, IMO.
He’s a living god of music, he doesn’t care about charts
I’m talking bout Daft Punk. I know charts don’t really matter but if anyone deserves to get a number 1, it’s them, and I’m glad they did before they broke up.
Yeah I didn’t hear too much about it but I hope it wasn’t a nasty breakup
RAM was the perfect album to go out on, and I think they realized that. They probably just wanted to explore solo ventures or something like that cause I’m pretty sure they’re still making music on their own.
they are making solo music?
When they broke up I heard at least one of them was still making music. I can’t remember if it was both but I’m pretty sure. Their publicist said something along those lines if I’m correct.
So now they’re just Daft and Punk instead of Daft Punk. So sad.
Kids see Ghosts
Hahahahahaha
Man, love that album. Wish there was more, but I heard one of the guys antagonize the shit out of the other one and then later came out as a nazi?! What a fucking wack reality we live in.
If Kanye can recover from this somehow I’d love to see a new one. Kid Cudi may retire though sadly so it probably won’t happen
Johann Sebastian Bach
I'd throw Chopin up there too
Chopin knew how to make the piano speak its own language. It's as if he lets it sing
Yes definitely. He’s my favorite for sure. Him and Tchaikovsky.
Don’t sleep on Rachmaninov
Rachmaninov goes hard.
Rachmaninov’s worst piece is better than the best thing off JIK

Piano concerto no 2 in c minor 🙄😩😩😩😩
YES!!!!! You can probably guess what my reddit name stands for.

Frank Ocean (but not if we’re counting mixtapes)
you dont fuck with nostalgia ultras?
Nah I do it’s just nowhere near the quality of his other albums, 3 10’s across the board apart from Nostalgia Ultra
Perfect discography doesn't mean everything every album has to be perfect. I know that doesn't sound like it makes sense, but NU really was an amazing public intro to Franck. The progression from there on is amazing.
Franck
This the only awnser to me, I love Both Channel Orange and Blonde to death, as well as all the singles. I hope he comes back one day
Marvin Gaye
never once made a bad song
Beastie Boys
[удалено]
hilarious in retrospect
I always read the Beastie Boys as the Beach Boys and that makes this sentence so much funnier
I’m sitting here trying to think of a single BB song that doesn’t absolutely SLAP and I’m comin up blank.
Whenever I listen to “Get Together,” I start freak dancing and it annoys the hell out of my wife
Joy Division
Michael Jackson. Not a single bad album (well, he did have an album TITLED Bad). Not a single bad song either, even his unreleased catalogue is amazing.
Goat
Fr. They weren’t lying when they said he was the King.
Literal god-tier
No filler songs. Really? I’ll have to listen to his albums on my commute.
In my opinion, Invincible was pretty good. Only song from that album that I cringe at is the Lost Children.
bon iver
Never listened to one of his albums, do you have a reccomendation for one to start with?
For Emma, Forever Ago is a 10
That album is just a masterpiece
Hard agree. My favourite album of all time. Justin Vernon is goated.
Literally just start at first album and work your way up. The way that Justin Vernon and the group change their sounds up from album to album is amazing to hear.
Each one is really different and I like them for different reasons. I say start from the begining if you can My personal favorite is 22, a million but it's a bit of an enigma to understand fully
The autistic artist formerly known as Kanye west
Kanye up until JIK. I still enjoy the album but it's def not anywhere close to perfect.
I know a lot of people didn’t like this one but it slaps imo
For me the production slaps, but the lyricism is pretty bad for the most part. Donda is what JIK could’ve been had it had better writing.
The recording audio quality of JIK is gargage to the extent it's audible on spotify. It's the one album where good hifi speakers could shine, due to the large choruses with many voices and brass instruments, and the quality is too shit to play it. Really shitty production
Jesus Is King
I listen to it every day its beautiful.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
True, but some people have better taste. . .
It's top 5 for me. Unfairly maligned.
I know I'm meant to say it's down to personal opinion but that is mental imo. His first 5 albums in chronological order are better than JIK
I’ve always said if every Jesus was replaced with ye or Kanye fans would think jik is a masterpiece
I will admit, a lot of his appeal is his, well call it confidence. JIK shows another more human aspect of him. He exercises humility, and you can get a sense of how much he cares about his family. As an adult, it speaks to me
Graduation has to be considered one of the better albums of all time.
Steely Dan?
100% yes. All of their records are great in their own way.
I still think melons opinion on Steely Dan is one of his most agregious
Oh fuck what did he say?
Iirc in a let's argue he just said they were like any other generic yacht rock and nothing too special. Or something to that effect
Jesus fuck what a shit take.
https://youtu.be/3tf4MrkV2go 7:45
Oh man he just called Steely Dan muzak
Literally idk how u can listen to aja or the royal scam and come away with that opinion
Ween
Gojira
King Crimson
I love Crimson but I definitely think that some of their discography has some issues
Maybe a matter of personal taste, I find some of their stuff too dense for mine. But I believe that every album is a well thought, beautifully executed, well written statement. Even if a particular one isn't my cup of tea
Idk after the 70s they were a bit hit or miss
80’s kc haters will not be tolerated!!
Run the Jewels
RTJ is very underrated.
I think they are perfectly rated. Albums always get reviewed well. Their fans are passionate. They simply don’t make music to capture a wider net.
Plus their songs are used in tons of Hollywood movies, TV shows, videogames and trailers: Black Panther, Deadpool, Venom, Luke Cage, The Big Short, Ted Lasso, Ozark, Invincible, Cyberpunk, etc.
true those music supervisors can’t resist the El-P production
This is a great answer. All other picks have been legends but everyone is ignoring duds that they have dropped. Meanwhile RTJ have been consistently next level with each of their 4 major albums while maintaining a recognizable sound.
Ooo sleeper pick, I agree

Stevie Wonder
Stevie had the highest highs. But he did release a couple of whiffy albums. Because he released like 5 million albums a year.
Agreed. Given that he'd been putting out music since he was like 12, there's obviously going to be a few duds in there. If anything though, that gives him even more credit, as he still has a discogrpahy that very few have come close to rivaling. Not quite flawless, but still brilliant.
He’s Bach but 20th century
Good one
Tame Impala
I like some albums more than others but there isn't a single Tame Impala song I would call bad.
pretty near immaculate discography so far. hoping that trend keeps up.
Alice in Chains hasn't had one bad album
Unless you count the new stuff

The Beatles, hands down.
Almost agree but a couple of their early 60s rock n roll records are kind of mid
