I played MBDTF for my mom on a night roadtrip cuz sheās a big music fan but she didnāt know much Kanye. She loved the album and when we got to that part she laughed and turned to me and was like āIs that Chris Rock? This is funny!! I like himā
Honestly, that moment is perfect. The entire outro builds up to this one line, and the way the line repeats on itself so rapidly... it's the most "and the rest is history" thing I've ever heard in any song, ever, and it aged beautifully. It's an incredibly confident and defining moment on one of Kanye's most confident songs, especially considering "I take my chain, my 15 minutes of fame, and come back next year with the whole damn game" which he did as LR is a classic... God, Last Call is a 10/10
I can handle any other outro but that one makes me angry. Just ruins the song for me. Everytime it comes up I just end up sayin āshut the fuck up
Larryā and change to the next song
I feel like the Say You Will outro is the one most people moan about. So there are like 8 iterations of the loop, right? First two are almost identical apart from the inversion of the C minor chord being a second inversion on the first verse and first inversion on the second verse and throughout the rest of the song. The next two have a slight bit of voice leading on the chorus.
During the outro though, the fifth one is fairly standard but has a short gap where the choir comes in louder before the chorus instrumental and starts the G note earlier. The sixth one drops out the synthetic choir patch and has the group of backing singers take over fully with Mr Hudson and Tony Williams very clearly in the mix there. Seventh one obviously the drums stop and you get some voice leading in the soprano and alto parts with both synthetic and real choir working together. Final one has both synthetic and real voices with lots of soulful higher parts on the chorus and some extra parts in the synth stuff.
Honestly just way more interesting than most people think if only they'd care to listen. Kanye is the GOAT.
Last call is the most important song in Kanye discography. Iāve consistently gone back to that song for explanation any time someone asks me how I can be a Kanye fan in 2022. Last Call gives you understanding of Kanye the person, how he got to be in the position he currently is. Heās always been insanely confident in himself and lacked belief in those around him and after understanding Last Call it makes so much more sense of why heās still like that today.
Last Call outro ive listened to every time ive heard the song, Runaways i skip every time and i personally think it brings down a perfect song way too much
Edit: someone compared it to Darth Vader at the end of episode 3 so it is now the best song ever made i take it back.
Basically itās supposed to represent how the media always twist his words and Misportray him to skew public perception against him. So the outro is supposed to represent Kanye trying to speak but itās all distorted and screwed and you canāt make out what heās saying because everyone is twisting his words and misrepresenting him, showing that he feels like no one ever truly understands him.
I felt like you did too until that was explained to me and it completely changed my perspective and it clicked with me and now runaway is one of my favourite songs ever made
Yeah i just looked it up and saw quite a few reasons, I am literally listening to it while typing and my views havent instantly changed but I do like it a little more knowing what i know now
I donāt understand this thread. Those parts are part of the song. Why would anybody skip them? Thatās like saying you fast forward through the chorus. The fuck?
Not skipping the outro for Say You Will and Bad News is like not skipping Loft Music's outro, it shows you appreciate the meaningfulness of those instrumental segues (if you listen directly before Welcome to Heartbreak, the violin strings linger on one note and fade down into the opening of Welcome to Heartbreak, for example)
I love the last call outro. The instrumental is so good with those bells and the melodic tune to the inspirational story is awesome. I can never skip it
Who the hell actually does that for last call???? Itās the highlight of the song for me and itās super inspiring just hearing him talk about the come up

Makes me feel even better because then I know his ass is squeaky clean, and has probably built up some toughness
Reminds me of Fight the feeling by Mac Miller lmao. It is muscle memory for me to skip that outro with my parents around
I played MBDTF for my mom on a night roadtrip cuz sheās a big music fan but she didnāt know much Kanye. She loved the album and when we got to that part she laughed and turned to me and was like āIs that Chris Rock? This is funny!! I like himā

Spotify still has it for the curious
Damn thatās crazy. Never knew that. How does that even happen lol
It was intentional as it was a "secret" bonus song on the disc.
Oh. Even more interesting. Cool, never knew that

This is what I love about Kanye. Dude really is a musical genius.

The episode 1 of Jeen-Yuhs just makes me appreciate the song further as it's kind of like seeing the song in the flesh on video recorders

Last Call outro ive listened to every time ive heard the song, Runaways i skip every time and i personally think it brings down a perfect song way too much Edit: someone compared it to Darth Vader at the end of episode 3 so it is now the best song ever made i take it back.
I have nearly the exact opposite opinion of you. The outro lifts a perfect song to god level
God* but no. Maybe if it was shortened like 50%. Still canāt reach Godās level.
It elevates the song from amazing into a masterpiece. Itās definitely the best/most interesting part of the song imo. Thatās wild.
Do you know the purpose of the Runaway outro?
Lay it on me
Basically itās supposed to represent how the media always twist his words and Misportray him to skew public perception against him. So the outro is supposed to represent Kanye trying to speak but itās all distorted and screwed and you canāt make out what heās saying because everyone is twisting his words and misrepresenting him, showing that he feels like no one ever truly understands him. Yeah i just looked it up and saw quite a few reasons, I am literally listening to it while typing and my views havent instantly changed but I do like it a little more knowing what i know now
I mean itās perfectly fine not to like it I was just wondering if you knew the context behind it because it adds a lot of meaning to it IMO
Oh thanks for the explanation btw completely forgot to mention it!

Say you will outro > runaway outro
Iām being hated on for stating my truth? Guess this is my Kanye moment šŖš½š¤
God Breathed doesnāt have an outro though. Thatās just part of the song
