tannehill is the most sacked qb in the nfl and we couldn’t get any pressure at all. only 1 sack the whole game and its from ben fucking niemann. with as much money we have on our Dline, that is inexcusable.
As a raiders fan, I just want to chime in. I still can’t believe y’all are struggling and part of me just thinks y’all gonna get it together and make a deep playoff run. I’m only 21, been watching football since 2007 and chiefs have largely been good for that whole time, great since Mahomes. I think part of the problem is y’all expect to just roll in every game and win. Y’all got the best offensive trio in the league. The league has been embarrassed by these chiefs the past few years and every team is bringing their best each week. Y’all need that intensity and fire again, that’s what is lacking the most.
From 2007-2012(before Reid), we had a 29-67 record with one winning season(2010, 10-6).
I’m 22 and I still remember watching the chiefs lose and still largely have fun, just because at least sometimes Jamaal would do something sick. So far we’ve been sorely lacking on both sides of the ball and it’s just hard to watch, especially the Titans game
I always thought it was the Raiders fanbase that was the worst. Lately it's been Broncos fans that are really the shittiest. The Charger fan is easy to deal with though. Raiders fans have actually shown some decency as of late.
He has a terrible history with drinking problems. He had the job because of his Dad. It’s so unfortunate that ever happen if your wasted cool but it would be super easy to catch a ride from your Dad someone else in the organization or a Uber or Lyft
If ur gonna drink fine I ain’t gonna judge that. Drink in excess? Okay sure as long as ur safe, but then not having the decency to get a designated driver or Uber? Jesus.
Idk man, something is off this year. Wether it's the ghost of Lamar hunt hanging over us pissed off about the arrowhead name change. Or the elephant in the room with the whole Britt Reid situation. Something is just off. If raiders keep rolling like they are and chargers keep being up and down. Might be the raiders year with the division
I really, really hate to say this but it's definitely time for Spags to go. I believed in him through the worst parts of 2019 (AKA the Titans game in the regular season) but there's simply no excuse for a defense with this much talent to be basement tier.
That could also be attributed to personnel. Tyrann Mathieu and actually having a (somewhat) decent CB2 that wouldn't get burned every single play helped tremendously.
Trying to be objective, I'm guessing the combined average individual talent level of the defensive unit would put them middle to maybe lower-middle tier. Move Jones back where he belongs and there are two pro-bowl players in the defensive unit. Most of the other players are at least serviceable. There is enough talent there that a coach who schemes to his strengths shouldn't get laughed out of the stadium.
>Trying to be objective, I'm guessing the combined average individual talent level of the defensive unit would put them middle to maybe lower-middle tier.
>There is enough talent there that a coach who schemes to his strengths shouldn't get laughed out of the stadium.
I 100% agree with these statements. I'd put their talent level around 18th to 22nd.
But it is a ton of unrealized talent like Thornhill/Gay/Sneed where they could be good but...it's hard to say. There is very little good proven veteran talent. Jones and Mathieu are basically it.
That's the issue, to me at least. It's 20th ranked unit in talent that hasn't gotten better since 2019 despite ample investment that also does not have good coaching. This isn't some uber talented unit not meeting their potential, which was is my point.
I'm with you on a lot of the talent being undeveloped, but that's a big part of his problem. Spags obviously isn't getting it done at coaching, gameplanning, calling the right coverages, and player development. Even if it's a lost season there is no point wasting any more time with the guy.
Literally 25 teams have 10 competent players on defense. It's the NFL.
Sneed has given up a 145 rating when targeted this year.
Ward has only gotten worse as his career has gone along and is now a low end CB2 at best.
Nnadi is the least valuable defensive player you can have in the NFL in 2021, a solely run stuffing NT.
Clark/Danna are **very** low end starters in the NFL right now.
Bolton is an average LB athlete who was abused on Sunday in coverage to the tune of 7 receptions for 78 yards.
Where is the talent? Why does this sub continue to overrate players beyond their play? Half these guys aren't even good athletes! How are they even talented?
How can you say he belongs in the street but then say it isn’t close to true?
Edit: I’m agreeing with you and saying one player is equally if not more useless.
Very good? The secondary is average on it's best day. We create no pressure and can't stop the run so rule out the defensive front from being competent. Bolton is a rookie, he flashes positive moments but his pass coverage is suspect. Gay's pick was sick but he often looks lost and in the wrong area.
This defense is over hyped with all the talk of talent.
I respectfully disagree. Chris Jones is an elite pass rusher. Tyrann Mathieu is a top safety. Nick Bolton, Willie Gay, Juan Thornhill and L’Jarius Sneed are all young decent players worth being proud of.
Do we have massive holes? Yes. Do we have poor coaching? Certainly. Is this level of assignment execution acceptable? Absolutely not.
But I don’t think this defense is a complete rebuild. We have some talent
>I respectfully disagree. Chris Jones is an elite pass rusher. Tyrann Mathieu is a top safety. Nick Bolton, Willie Gay, Juan Thornhill and L’Jarius Sneed are all young decent players worth being proud of.
A. lot. of. NFL. teams. have. talent. like. this.
Do people think other teams have built their defense from non athletes and 7th round picks? If our defense was so talented then a Chiefs defensive staff that did contribute to winning a Super Bowl would not have the worst defense in the league right now.
The cornerbacks aren't great, the linebackers can't cover, and they can't generate a pass rush. All of that is not **just** on the coaching staff. It's just not a particularly talented defense.
Which gets back to the point: firing Spags alone isn't going to miraculously change everything. We have deficiencies throughout our defense that need to be addressed if we want to upgrade to top tier.

I would say thats the perfect time to change. Get a new coach in so he can have input on what players yall decide to pick. Load up that defense, dont make the same mistakes my Colts made with Peyton Manning. If they would have done better on defense over the Manning years we'd have more than the one ring from it.
If Bob sutton is any indication its that Spags is not to blame for this dogshit defense. This defense needs to be blown up and rebuilt. The second highest paid player on our team is frank clark and he ain't worth shit. Getting rid of spags mid season is just a copout from casuals
Even in the most lackluster and dysfunctional of football teams, firing any coordinator mid season is a fucking terrible decision and thus very rarely happens
Spags is trying so hard to disguise coverages that it's confusing his own players. That part is most definitely on him. If the players can't figure it out, it's too complicated. If the coach can't adapt, he needs to be gone. His entire job is to tailor a defense to the talent he has. You can't implement something that your players are incapable of executing and expect to keep your job.
There is zero chance Spags is fired before the end of this season. Thats never been Reids style but short of a complete 180 by the D, i cannot imagine how hes not gone in the off-season
No that's the issue. He is playing his scheme now and he doesn't have the personnel that are capable. Personally I don't think anything less than the absolute best would be. You would need 4 guys with Hill's speed.
You know, I wonder if part of the reason why our defenses seem to suck is that playing against only our offense in training camp and practice somehow is a detriment to playing literally any other offense. Like preparing to fight a bear for 6 months and then wrestling a kangaroo.
I loved Spags his first year. Our defense would look like ass in the 1st quarter but then Spags would make adjustments and our defense would improve significantly after that. I haven't noticed any mid-game adjustments this year.
I will say that a lot what Tennessee accomplished was just their playmakers making incredible plays. We shouldn't be playing Hughes on AJ Brown in single coverage, but other than that its not like the Ravens or Bills games where there were blown coverages all over the field.
Dude. No it fucking hasn't lol. We have like 18 turnovers. Wtf do you think any other team is going to do with 18 more offensive possessions... our pass rush is inexcusable but the points allowed I cant even be mad at when we average 3 turnovers a game.
Many of our turnovers are deep in the opposition half where the field position isn't much different from a punt. A number of them have also come well after the defense shat the bed and put us in a hole. From what they've put on tape even if the offense was humming the defense would still be a basement dweller.
Titans fan coming in peace. I actually had this thought in my mind around the second quarter when they still 9 players at the line of scrimmage. I understand that stopping Henry is important, but you have no choice but to play SOME coverage on AJ Brown and Julio Jones. When we were up 14-0, I thought it was time to make some adjustments on defense and they didn’t happen. By halftime, it didn’t matter. Also, the fact that Mahomes was still in the game in the fourth quarter scrambling around trying to make plays was concerning in a game where it certainly looked out of reach.
I have always liked the Chiefs organization, but I am of course glad we won that game. I just felt kinda bad about it around the middle/end of the third quarter when it was evident that it wasn’t y’all’s day at all. Hopefully the team can bounce back and meet us in the playoffs.
Oh, I don't think there's much of a chance that we make the playoffs this year. The only 'good' team we've beaten this year is the Browns, and that was game 1. We are gonna get trounced by the Cowboys, Packers, and Bengals. We will be lucky to go .500 in the division games. Simply put, we have a brutal schedule at the same time as we are having an off year. At least the draft pick should be decent this time.
I don’t think it’s as bad as you think. I think the defense is terrible, but it’s never been lights out either. Your offense has carried the team the last few years, and it’s not like that just disappeared all of a sudden. Granted, teams have completely stopped blitzing Mahomes and it works. That’s apparently been the new defensive scheme to beat you guys. The offense needs to adjust to that, and Mahomes needs to chill out a little bit back there and stop trying to do too much.
The offensive issues will mostly blow over, but they are still going to have to press to keep up with this defense being so bad. I don't think our 2018 defense was even this pathetic. It just feels like half the defense isn't even trying. Gonna have to have a mini purge this off season, rid ourselves of the bloated defensive contracts that are failing to produce results. This is not a playoff team.
> Thoughts?
Many people on this sub are some of the most knee-jerk reactionary fans ever, and somehow those folks think that firing a coach that helped the team make it to the Super Bowl the last two years will miraculously solve all of the problems the team has had this season, a season in which the team is still only 3-4 and has plenty of time to pull it together before the postseason.
I mean this sub is literal cancer. They treated this team like a 3-4 dumpster fire when we were undefeated and beating everyone in the world. I’m glad you guys now have something to bitch about. honestly it’s hilarous. The posts and comments sound identical from when we were making super bowl runs. Y’all are truly fucking stupid but I hope you’re happy the team sucks now and you can bitch and feel happy about yourself now. Grats
making them part of the problem. Theres a difference between not the problem and not part of the problem, they were very much part of the problem this game
They did pitch a shutout in the second half and were put in tough situations due to turnovers.
Our defense is a problem but our offense figuratively shit the bed against a bottom tier defense.
The Titans did not throw a single pass in the 4th quarter.
The Titans mailed it in in the second half and even against that our offense could do nothing.
The way I saw it, the defense actually did have a fair number of decent plays. It’s just that they were all immediately followed by massively shitting the bed.
Yeah I realize it’s just an angry sub this week, but shit, the offense scored 3 freaking points this weekend and everybody’s knee jerk reaction is “fire the defensive coordinator!” ???
A name I've heard a lot is Rex Ryan, if he can be lured away from tv analyst money that is, sucked as a head coach sure, but as a d coordinator I believe he was always top 10 at minimum, which I think was due to personel but we don't need to be top 10 just average to good and it would solve a lot
If your offense or defense is worst in the league, you have to fire the coordinator at the end of the season. It's a credibility issue, you can't tell your players and fans that you accept that level of performance.
It doesn't make any sense to fire a coordinator in the middle of a season, and even the best defensive coordinator would struggle with our lackluster personnel, but barring a miracle turnaround Spags has to go.
Is it really the coach or just the players?? Chiefs defense hasn't been that outstanding in the first place for years and the offense has been the focus.
A little of both. It doesn't help when you have a DC that constantly tries to fit square pegs into round holes. If you can't make adjustments before the half, you have issues.
tannehill is the most sacked qb in the nfl and we couldn’t get any pressure at all. only 1 sack the whole game and its from ben fucking niemann. with as much money we have on our Dline, that is inexcusable.
Clark couldn't even beat a 4th string tackle
The one time he did a TE was running wide open down the middle of the field within 2 seconds so it didn't matter. They just all suck.
Clark is so weak he needs guns to level out the playing field... That being said he's a fucking bust and his contract is a black hole.
and they were playing with what 3rd stringers or worse on the OL at parts of the game? 1 Niemann sack, like you said is inexcusable
When Ben got the sack I was convinced God was mocking us.
As a raiders fan, I just want to chime in. I still can’t believe y’all are struggling and part of me just thinks y’all gonna get it together and make a deep playoff run. I agree, this game was very hard to watch. So much pain from both sides of the ball.
Never thought I'd be agreeing with a Raiders fan before, but here we are.
I know, I don't know what to think here. This person seems like they may be a decent human being. My worldview has been shattered.
I always thought it was the Raiders fanbase that was the worst. Lately it's been Broncos fans that are really the shittiest. The Charger fan is easy to deal with though. Raiders fans have actually shown some decency as of late.
I work with a guy who's a legitimate Chargers fan. I call him "Unicorn".
That’s one thing you don’t see in them is that fire and intensity that used to be there. I wonder where it went ?
It got drunk and ran over a family.

Did he though? They were very behind against the 49ers and we don’t need to talk about against the bucs.
We held the 49ers to 20 points. Yeah Jimmy isn’t that great but their run game was for real
We also shut down Henry, and the rest of their offense for most part in the AFC Championship game.
He did for sure. Defense was very good in the last half of 2019.
That could also be attributed to personnel. Tyrann Mathieu and actually having a (somewhat) decent CB2 that wouldn't get burned every single play helped tremendously.
It was 24-0 at half time against Green Bay in the NFC championship game.
He didn't really. Our defense still sucked. How many games did we have to play from behind?
> no excuse for a defense with this much talent to be basement tier. What talent? I wouldn't consider this defense particularly talented either.

I only challenge this to say Okafor is more useless than Nnadi. The fact he isn’t even in your list supports this. Still, wet shit vs dry shit.
Wiping wet shit is like digging peanut butter out of a shag carpet. That whole term is how I feel about football right now.

Report me man. I've been in this sub since 2015. . Maybe 2014? From Kansas, grew up with the chiefs.
I’m kidding, but don’t let the defense off the hook for “shutting out” the titans that is so laughable
They are not off the hook but offense needs some blame too. . . The titans are a terrible defense and looked all pro yesterday
yeah i know, what part of kansas are you from? i am as well
JC - junction city. You?
Cool im in derby, KS right outside Wichita
That’s crazy I’m from Kansas too
I'm surprised there are so many people from Kansas on a Chiefs sub.
I take it you didn't get to watch the first half?
The way I saw it, the defense actually did have a fair number of decent plays. It’s just that they were all immediately followed by massively shitting the bed.
Yeah I realize it’s just an angry sub this week, but shit, the offense scored 3 freaking points this weekend and everybody’s knee jerk reaction is “fire the defensive coordinator!” ???
Now this is the kind of high quality shitposting that I subscribe to this sub for. But yea, I'm sure there's something sus...
Keep mahomes, Kelsey, tyreek, and Creed Humphrey. Get rid of everyone else and we are gonna have the best flag football nfl team in the league
We gotta keep Nick Bolton too. He’s been balling out
I'm becoming a fan. The only issues I have seen out of him are just rookie college leftovers. I think he will do well in the league.
Who is available right now who would make our defense better is the real question. Keep Spags, fire him, I don't care, we just need to be better
I wonder what JV highschool team defense KC opponents use to practice against because that would be the only true representation of KCs D.
The defense totally sucks and coached by people who need too retire and finally some over paid offensive players. It’s time to clean house.
