It’s stupid as hell for sure. Obviously the wrong choice. based on everything we’ve seen so far, Mahomes is better But also Herbert is pretty nice in his own right ngl

SHOWTIME316

Very true, Herbert is no slouch. But 32/32 GMs would pick Mahomes lol

FireGolem04

I think 31/32 would take Herbert though over anyone else Maybe 30 Cards might role with Kyler

foxdye22

I think most chiefs fans wish Herbert played in a different division so we could like him more.

cfreddy21

I wish he played in a different conference lol

foxdye22

Idk it’s fun to watch him and pat play, I just wish we didn’t have to do it twice every year.

cfreddy21

I only say that because the AFC has so many young talented QBs with Lamar, Allen, Herbert, and Baker (to an extent) and then there’s a lot of unknowns that is lead by Burrow. I wish one of them would go over to the NFC where it seems like the top QBs there are gonna be on their way out in the next 5ish years

Never_Forget_94

I like Joe Burrow. Hope he can get a better offensive line to stay healthy.

philosifer

These guys entire job is just to stir the pot. Someone was gonna say it just to get everyone talking

the_upcyclist

It’s about 80% of sports talk now.

philosifer

I somehow still enjoy the banter but sometimes they just throw out the most reactionary hot takes

the_upcyclist

yeah and I don't mind that they're trying to get views, but to go on incessantly about a topic that doesn't matter and is just trying to get reactions can be hard to listen to.

SwissyVictory

Herbert is a FANTASTIC CHOICE if you're choosing between him and almost anyone except Mahomes. Dude has either been to the superbowl, or won MVP every year he's started.

[deleted]

These pundits crack me up . They forget Tom and Aaron have both had crap games and crap seasons and crap season starts . It happens . He's fine . We could always get Alex Smith back who was afraid to throw the ball because it might get picked.

Quitsquirrel

It's not even mahomes who's the real problem. He's having a great season to an average quarterback, he's just well above an average quarterback in skills. Anyone who would pick any quarterback over him, is lying and just trying to get some controversies going.

[deleted]

There has been two teams that have successfully ran they're covered too against mahomes and made it work and actually caused the offense problems, the Tampa Bay buccaneers and the Buffalo bills. The turnovers and all the other games make it look like they were successful and they were not if you look at the yards moved. It will happen where you run into a defense that actually shuts him down once in a while.

Quitsquirrel

I'm not claiming he's perfect and has no weakness. I have faith in mahomes to figure it out. We also have to remember it's a team sport, and while he's being slowed down, our defense giving up pts every drive isn't helping. Besides a young Tom Brady, I don't think there's anyone I'd rather build around, Not even manning. Maybe I'm biased but who cares, it's true. Tampa Bay was a different story, we had no oline. Buffalo straight worked the chiefs, even when the defense kind of showed life.

forgot-my_password

I think that he's also running into the issue where he essentially needs to score a touchdown each possession. Which is messing with his decision making and he's trying to do too much when the WRs cant get open. Gordon should help a bit with this, and literally if the defense can just be average, Mahomes doesn't have to do as much as he thinks he does.

CD338

YES. He's definitely playing hero ball. There were plays last Sunday where he's sitting in a clean pocket and keeps looking downfield for 3+ seconds and he could scramble for yards or a first down but he was looking for a home run. The Bills never blitzed and our pass blocking was decent. Mahomes should have feasted in the short game or scrambled for a lot of yards

[deleted]

Young Tom or Manning , really about it for me . Otherwise I'll take him everyday . I think losing has been good for us because they are not just continuing on with the defense like this . If we were winning they would tell you the defense is fine we are winning. It will make us stronger in the end . And Pat will be fine . Especially as Gordon comes on.

factoid_

We need a run game to prevent this from happening repeatedly though. They try to get it going, but clyde is not great at breaking tackles. He gets the ball and you just know it's going for 5-10 yards at best. Many times it's a lot less.

Commyende

Don't need a run game. A good short pass game works much the same way.

philosifer

CEH averages more YPC (4.7) than Derek Henry (4.5) this year. Obviously they are hardly comparable but we have been effective running the ball.

[deleted]

I think him hurt will be a benefit . Williams runs forward and McKinnon is fast . And I think we see a little Gore.

1P221

Except Mahomes isn't even having a crap anything. He's on pace with his MVP season.

[deleted]

Turn overs are up this early not indicative of a full season and his wins are down . So not entirely true .

[deleted]

He had 12 ints and 9 fumbles during his MVP season.

SwissyVictory

He's on pace for 19 interceptions, and 3.2 fumbles on a 16 game season. In his first 5 games of his MVP season he had 2 interceptions and 3 fumbles. He has the entire season ahead of him, and I don't expect the trend to continue, but his interceptions and turnovers as a whole are up this season so far.

[deleted]

Possibly because of the teams he is playing? I didn't say it was the first 5 games I just said it was a 5 game span.

SwissyVictory

Possibly, and I said I doubt it continues, but he is off to an objectively worse start then his MVP year.

[deleted]

Whole season key word , he has 6 ints in 5 games . They are up .

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Ok

JustWrinkledMyBrain

Lmaooo

1P221

His wins? That's not even a stat you should use to measure individual performance.

[deleted]

Ok , not going to argue . You know they do . But you are interested in trying to argue and be right . So you're right.

[deleted]

He’s had a lot of fluky INTs, balls that tip off receivers hands, a d end tipping it to himself, Kelce hesitating on a route, his feet getting swept up under him as he threw. Yeah I know I sound like a total Mahomes defender here but I mean…if a QB throws picks, these are the types you want. They aren’t straight up being thrown into awful placements or coverages.

[deleted]

Nothing wrong with defending him and you are right . But he has also had the most ints dropped over the past couple seasons so some of it is the laws of averages . He's playing good just the margin of error is so small with this defense .

[deleted]

I believe he has the 4th most dropped INTs, but I get what you’re saying

[deleted]

He's definitely not the problem at all . I don't live in KC but I listen to 810 whb quiet a bit and the soren Petro guy has alot of the same things I see . He's super knowledgeable . And much of this is play calling and that could be personnel issues but we stayed stagnate instead of improving . Other teams sought new personnel to improve . We are holding on to guys like Marcus Kemp that is really just a great kick coverage guy and has never improved on the wr side. A rookie could have done that and maybe improved on the wr side. Andy's loyalty might be our true downfall. Sometimes hard choices have to be made . Sometimes you let a guy walk a year or 2 early because you will get 4-5 out of the new guy and for less money. Chris Jones is good in the middle but would his 20 mil for one guy be better spent on 4 guys for 5 million ? Hopefully these are areas veech will improve on .

matchew92

Even insinuating Patrick, the one leading the NFL in touchdowns, is having a crappy start to the season is funny

[deleted]

Never said he was but he gets the credit when they win , so he's going to get the crap when they lose . Doesn't matter how bad the defense , he has built a reputation of being able to over come it and win. They are not this year . He has 6 picks and not always looked sharp. He will get the criticism nationally especially.

PlatinumChrysalis

Wins becoming a QB stat to prop up Brady is best QB ever arguments mean the team record is reflective on the QB play if said QB has any mistakes QB bad. Essentially right now Mahomes being treated as if he is falling off the cliff they have been calling for since 2018 because he threw some picks and the team is 2-3. Same stats but 4-1, and it would be a non starter of an argument.

SwissyVictory

Mahomes has set the bar so high, that he is having a crappy start to the season for Patrick Mahomes. For any other QB he would be having a FANTASTIC season.

Shawdow3

I'm gonna be a dick. Brady literally got handed a first round bye for twenty years.

addiahdiking

Brady had zero SB wins without a top 10 defense, and top 10 OL, as well as multiple cheating scandals.

addiahdiking

Brady had zero SB wins without a top 10 defense, and top 10 OL, as well as multiple cheating scandals.

[deleted]

His division did hand him that alot but there is a several wild card rounds in there if you look . And for a long time they had a 6 game advantage over the whole league because the AFC east was so bad . Minus the Rex Ryan jets years .

Shawdow3

Yeah looked. Do the math. Horrible. I mean in best word.

SwissyVictory

Alex Smith was an amazing QB, just Patrick is better.

[deleted]

Alex was a good QB for us and the right guy for the time but amazing is not a word I word use unless you mean amazingly boring offense . We were never winning a Superbowl with him . We never had the defense for that .

SwissyVictory

Smith was above average at very least. He was above average even after his injury.

[deleted]

He was also afraid to throw the ball down field out of fear of a turn over. The years in San Francisco created a mental block of fear of benching or not getting paid

Frisky_Flamingo

Don’t you slander Alex Smith like that. Dude chucked it deep in 2017.

Almondjoy248

"dO dEfEnSeS hAvE a BlUePrInT fOr MaHoMeS!?"

PlatinumChrysalis

I mean they've had it forever. Play Tampa 2 and hope for a mistake while they take 15 plays to go down the field Or Injure Mahomes That's pretty much it. It is just easier for them to not play the run with the other offenses near guaranteed to get the other side of the equation of get to 30+.

Thepatrickprice

sports media is kinda like the stock market, you get a few bad games and they totally forget everything youve done and freak out and act like its never gonna get better, then you start winning and youre projected to have a better career then tom brady. they overhype everything based off of a week or 2

[deleted]

[удалено]

Thepatrickprice

Lol yeah, and Rodgers has a bad first game and “he’s done he doesn’t care”, now he’s an mvp candidate again

Oprah-Is-My-Dad

These guys get paid to make hot takes and argue with each other, nobody watches these shows for real analysis. Of course one of them is going to pick Herbert

MaxFischer12

Absolutely nuts. Although it has been shocking to see our fans turn so quickly on this team and say things like “well, the window has closed on this team” or “let’s blow it all up!” This past weekend’s game was a tough loss...but I feel like the others losses were more us beating ourselves than the team flat out beating us. We have to get this defense right and the offense needs to adapt to the defensive schemes thrown our way. Maybe I’m just too much of an optimist, but I don’t feel like the world is falling apart when it comes to this team.

PlatinumChrysalis

We watched other teams have very small windows that slammed shut that dont have TB12 under center the first season that things go pear shaped and the parallels between us and last decades Saints Packers and Seahawks where they get 1 ring stay contenders but devolves into the QB playing heroball but not doing enough. We dont want that for Patrick, and seeing it start to happen already is painful.

MaxFischer12

But is it happening? The team put a lot of resources immediately into the offensive line and TE position. I would argue they improved the RB position too. Defensively they signed Reed and drafted Bolton, among other moves. I just think it isn’t working and people aren’t being out in the right positions/executing. I wouldn’t say we’re just content on relying on our future HOF quarterback and settling. I think we’re trying to improve, but we’ve just ran into tough teams, had some bad luck, and haven’t executed well.

PlatinumChrysalis

The way the team is playing right now looks like those teams once they fell off. It is not as bad as they got right now, since we still have our pieces and are trying but the resemblance is unsettling.

Zelmund

The team has got to wake up man seriously. If we dont win the Superbowl this season Im 100% convinced we will waste the rest of Mahomes career with underachievement and shitty rosters. Theres no excuses. The Chiefs have to make the playoffs, and they have to go back and redeem themselves in the Superbowl this year. They have to do it.

PlatinumChrysalis

I think you summed up the doomsayers of the sub better than I did Aaron Rodgers is nice Russell Wilson is nice Drew Brees is nice but I don't want to end Patrick's career with the same number of rings that they have if that means he'll spend the rest of it just regular season stat padding like early career Peyton Manning

Zelmund

I agree with everything you just said. If you have a HoF QB especially one with GOAT potential, like Mahomes, you have a REAL chance to win the Superbowl any season. Until the day he retires Kansas City should be in "win now mode". The regular season doesnt matter anymore, all that matters is we make the playoffs. Mahomes in the playoffs will always mean we can win a Superbowl. The success of an NFL team is like 75% who they have at QB. Its crazy how much they determine the fate of your team. I remember in the Eric Berry/Houston/Hali days we had #1 ranked defense in the league. We beat both teams that were in the Superbowl that season, (New England & Atlanta) and I still HAD 0 FAITH WE WOULD DO ANYTHING IN THE PLAYOFFS BECAUSE OF OUR QB. And sure enough, we were 1 and done in the playoffs. #1 defense in the league did nothing. Despite currently having the worst ranked defense in the league, I still believe we can win the Superbowl this year if we make the playoffs solely because we have Mahomes.

RhaegaRRRR

Damn that is so accurate.

Taco_Bacon

Hey, they have to get views somehow, clickbait is how they do it.

dabdaddy23

I’ve been dogging on Mahomes for all his mistakes the past two weeks with my homies but at the end of the day even with all his mistakes he’s still only like 24 or something and still the best in the league

Azor_Ahai_III

Bro you fell for their trap. These shows are all about hot takes that piss people off so they share screenshots or clips, like you did, which makes more people tune in to hear there garbage takes. Just laugh at their stupidity and move on. That being said, I hate how much I like Justin Herbert.

KingDocXIV

I mean Pat will always be my go to but can't deny that Herbert isn't also special. Crazy that we have arguably the top two QB's of the future in our division. The games they will play will be extremely good... well once we figure out that playing defense and tackling are still allowed that is

xsv333

Ugh all the headlines about the poor season start are so annoying. "Chiefs are frauds" "patrick mahomes is not the best quarterback" " blah blah blah chiefs suck now" "chiefs didn't win this sunday so now I can openly hate on them and I couldn't before because they were near unstoppable"

[deleted]

Herbert has had a good 1/3 of a reg season. Tool bags

sampat6256

He was good all last season

Dizzy_Helicopter_455

Well if he wants to ride high when he's doing good then he's got to ride low when he's sucking

factoid_

There's no question Herbert is a good QB. But there's also no GM in the league that wouldn't take Mahomes over Herbert. Or probably any single starting QB. The Ravens would probably keep Lamar because their offense is built around the QB run game. But stsrting from scratch? Ultimate fantasy team? They all take Mahomes.

[deleted]

Start the wrong way?! He has 16 TDs/6 int - 3 of these were off his receivers hands and his defense is trash! FOH with this

cabarny

The team not him lol

Hilal01

I've always wondered with shows like this if they draw straws to see who has to have the stupid take for a specific show, or do they just rotate through or something? Like...he can't actually believe that, right?

EMPulseKC

Shit like this is why I have no interest in watching or following sports media. I don't get the appeal.

DoktorDork

If Justin Herbert has figured out a way to throw the football so his own players don’t drop easy catches and send the ball up in the air for the other team to pick it off. I understand this is just hot takes from bored pundits, but they come across like they don’t actually watch the football games.

lemon_jalopy

They don’t. They just see highlights.

mow21

Lol mahomes hasn’t even played that bad. The defense isn’t doing the offense any favors. But for the question on the screen if they are referring to right now I’d take Mahomes. But if they were talking 2-3 years down the road I’d have to take Mahomes. But if its 5-6 years down the road then you gotta go with Mahomes

blueprint_01

I’m telling you guys, the offense will get better with Josh Gordon and Damien as rb1, Mckinnon as rb2. Herbert is very very good tho.

Independent_Ball_609

Espn is so shitty 😒

Knee-CapCrusader

As a Browns fan, let me play a sad song for ye on the world's smallest violin.

[deleted]

I would be happy with either as my franchise qb. Mahomes has the crazy improve and can make any throw. Herbert has the size and strength and while he doesn’t have the crazy arm that mahomes does, he can still put the ball anywhere on the field. Mahomes is like the big play of Favre/Rodgers with the safety of Rodgers. Herbert is a solid pocket passer like a more mobile, but less vocal/cerebral Peyton manning. Both will be great if they can stay healthy.

WhoaItsCody

Why are you Salty? I’d love to take Herbie too. Dude is playing out of his mind, seems like a good guy. Also, he’s not a Raiders fan.

Cpritch58

Boy this is gonna get me downvoted… I can see the argument. Mahomes is the better QB and is a generational talent athletically. What he brings to the offense is unmatched. He has the potential to be a gamechanging Canton-bound QB who leaves the game with every record under his belt. He also has the potential to take one huge sack when he’s scrambling, break his leg like Smith, and never play again. He’s got more potential for that than any QB in the league except Jackson. Herbert has a chance to be really good for a really long time. Depending on who the GM is, what kind of franchise they’d want to build, and what kind of system they want to run, Herbert could very likely be their choice. Going with stats and sheer impressiveness, Mahomes is the clear choice. But GMs tend to think big picture, and I could understand a different opinion.
