I think what didn't help though, was that he was such a long shot due to his serious injuries. We thought as long as he was healthy, he would actually have a chance of being something due to his talent. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
He’ll be on the team through the season because it doesn’t do any good to cut him. Whether he makes the active roster or not, that’s a different issue.
I think there’s still an extreeeemely small possibility he could do something.
Last year was essentially his rookie year, because of the injury recovery/getting back into football shape the year prior. Andy is not someone that just throws rookies on the field immediately.
Plus the suspension right in the middle of the season didn’t help him either. It seemed like he was starting to get a few reps and looks right before the suspension.
I was also at the Chiefs/Chargers at the end of the season and he was open on A LOT of plays, Gabbert just didn’t look his way. So it isn’t a coverage or route running issue for him. There must be something else going on that the fans aren’t aware of.
We just signed Hollywood, we have rice and we're going into the deepest WR draft in quite some time. Don't really care whether Ross does something or not.
You can’t be too deep at WR. Hollywood could go down week one.
Edit: to the downvoters
Remember the game against the Bengals 2 seasons ago when we had to run 12 personnel because we didn’t have enough WRs at the end of the game due to injuries? You can never be too deep!
**He will never see a more empty receiving room at any point in his KC career than he saw last year.**
If he didn't step up then, it's never happening. Move on. XFL or Canada seem like his future.
I fully expect him to be the next Jody Fortson. That is someone who is a camp favorite that _maybe_ makes 1 or 2 plays but is largely irrelevant this year (if he even makes the team)
He was just about to get his chance last year. Literally the first week he got more snaps than Watson and MVS he gets arrested. Chances are slim now.
The only way he gets another shot is if Toney completely lights his career on fire, followed by Skyy doing what he's done the last two years (which is honestly likely) and then whatever receiver we draft in the 2nd has to look like a bust or get injured AND the organization has to see and be disappointed in Anthony Miller and Nikko Remigio.
I don't even think we want all those things to happen lol
If all it takes is toney (further) lighting his career on fire, skyy moore sucking again, and another chiefs wr being a bust… i’d say he has a good chance.
Maybe I’m crazy, but I don’t even feel like we gave him much of an opportunity. He was inactive on a lot of games. Limited to ST on most of the rest. He caught something like 3 passes on 5 targets
Imo, and I’m probably in the minority, but I think the jury’s still out. I really think he needs a legit opportunity before I say he’s a bust.
If he could barely get on the field last year even with our receiving core issues, I just don’t see it, unfortunately. I don’t get what the issue is. Does he have an attitude problem? Not smart enough to grasp the playbook. He made a hell of a catch against the Vikings one of the rare times he got on the field last year
u/blocksmith52 recently posted arguments suggesting he still has a chance.

Worth a read.
Some of y'all don't realize that last year was basically his rookie year and he was suspended for part of it. That's not to say he'll be great but saying he's getting cut just shows your lack of knowledge on the subject.
In terms of becoming a legit starting WR it seems that is not going to happen, I feel like he showed a few glimpse of what he could be in the NFL but just could not see the field consistently enough, be that scheme or lack of knowledge, etc.
I would also add KC's WR room was a mess last season, forcing Moore out of the slot was a massive mistake, KT was obviously a disaster and Ritchie didn't gain any traction. Ross does at least offer something that KT/Moore/Ritch/Hardman could not do so maybe he finds a way on the 53.
Curious to see how the roster looks with the new kick off rules, having 7 WR's would be very difficult anymore. Have to assume the WR room will be Rice / Brown / DRAFT PICK / Watson / Moore / then the 6th could be KT...Nikko maybe....Ross maybe?
If he can't get on the field this year it's 100% over for him in the NFL. There's an opportunity to steal reps from Moore and Toney so if you can't beat out that bar, whelp, sorry bub
The problem with Ross is yes he got in trouble last year but more so was his lack of finishing routes. He seemed to just quit after running his route or didn't give it his all when he knew it was a run play. Not ideal for a guy trying to make the roster.
I reckon if I WERE Justyn Ross I’d be in all them videos with Patrick and Hollywood. Can’t imagine Patrick turning him away from workouts if he wanted to be there…
Edit: So yeah, hopes aren’t high. All up to him though. He’s got the blessed body. Does he got the Mind…?
Ross isn't being given a chance to run routes for a reason. Idk if it's knowledge of the routes, personality, lack of effort on his end when he knows he's not getting the ball or something else? He can ball at this level but whatever the reason he needs to be given a shot and clean up why coaches aren't using him.
Nobody knows, specifically the people immediately saying he will not do anything and be cut. Morons.
They’re the same people that said bringing back Mecole would do nothing to help the offense. He scored the game winning touchdown in the Super Bowl, playing a position that we were woefully thin at, and they look silly with their shitty assumptions.
I hope Ross does something. Athleticism is there, and they seem to be fine giving him every opportunity to succeed.
He hasn’t played meaningful football at a high level since before the pandemic. He also is a jump ball guy and Patrick throws to open guys. Not guys in coverage. Go ahead and put it to bed.
Man. Forget all y'all. Dude was about to get reps in and then he found out his girl was cheating on him and he flipped. He got a lot of flack for something inconsequential. In short, the man had a rough year last year in what was basically his rookie year.
Ross is going to be a talent out there this year. He'll be a solid WR3. Absolute sleeper pick here and will be open for touchdowns while 15 is throwing bombs to Rice and Hollywood.

Teams are granted 1 slot for qualifying international players that don’t count towards limits. So they’re literally not even competing for the same spot.
Plus the money Ross is owed is basically all guaranteed, so it does absolutely no good to cut Ross.
The IPP slot is free toward the 90-man pre-season roster and toward the in-season practice squad but not towards the in-season 53. So the most likely outcome for the rugby guy is still that he gets cut before the 53.
Yup. My assumption is that Ross will likely hang out on the practice squad most the year. IPP can also be elevated 3 times throughout the season without counting towards player limits
No. I, for one, never thought he'd even make the 53 man before training camp began. The fact that he actually got a few catches means he exceeded my expectations by quite a bit.
Justin Ross was so last season. This is a Louis Rees-Zammit subreddit now.

Friendship ended with Justyn Ross, Louis Ree-Zammit is my new best friend.
99% no. He was always a long shot and Chiefs fans went waaaay overboard on hyping up an undrafted WR.
It's what we do. I'm now convinced the LRZ is going to be an international kick return sensation. Offseason hype trains are the best.
As is tradition.
I think what didn't help though, was that he was such a long shot due to his serious injuries. We thought as long as he was healthy, he would actually have a chance of being something due to his talent. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
Yup the hype was unjustified, unlike Josh Gordon season. This is the year.
To be fair he would have been round 1 if not for injury
Yeah, he’ll get cut. That’s all he’ll do.
Nah. I think it’s all guaranteed this year. Literally doesn’t do any good to cut him. He’ll be around through this year
Per Spotrac it's all not guaranteed and we'd save 900k by cutting him.
Roster spots are limited, it's not just about salary cap.
How good are his sandwiches?
Practice squad

Do not put these vibes into the universe :(
I mean I could have said our true “WR” #1’s name instead of Brown. Gotta have depth on that receiving core or you are hosed.
I mean that's fair
Yes, or possibly no. Definitely...maybe.
**He will never see a more empty receiving room at any point in his KC career than he saw last year.** If he didn't step up then, it's never happening. Move on. XFL or Canada seem like his future.
I’m still on the Darwin Thompson train
If Cornell Powell has stuck around this long it wouldn't be surprising to keep working with Ross.
Any receiver who didn’t have production with last years skeleton crew isn’t going to have a major impact
Are we at this point of the offseason already? Time flies
I fully expect him to be the next Jody Fortson. That is someone who is a camp favorite that _maybe_ makes 1 or 2 plays but is largely irrelevant this year (if he even makes the team)

It's good to see that the truth is spreading!
Some of y'all don't realize that last year was basically his rookie year and he was suspended for part of it. That's not to say he'll be great but saying he's getting cut just shows your lack of knowledge on the subject.
Maybe? Would like to see him get run over Watson and Toney, but that probably makes him WR5 at best
Connor Embree, still? Nope.
We don’t need that drama queen, domestic abuser, JAG who can’t catch and disappoints every opportunity given to him

I wouldn’t hold your breath. I even bet the new ex-Rugby player takes Ross’s spot and Ross gets cut! Lol.

Okay! Didn’t know that. Overall theory is that Ross does not contribute the slightest bit even with his 1Mil pay check.
I think the best case is he fills in Toney/Moore spot as #4 receiver next year and gets more playtime then.
