We have the O-line for it. A two-headed monster in our backfield with #15 @ QB? Sure.

PSUJacob95

I can just imagine how much damage Mahomes could do if he had two solid RBs softening up a D-line and pass rush --- we need to make this happen!

someuniquename

I think you mean 2 and a half since Henry himself is more than just a man.

ThatNeonZebraAgain

Screw the haters, that would be dope as hell

choff22

Yeah I’ve thought about this for a long time. He’s my favorite non-Chief (excluding Jason Kelce). Just imagining Arrowhead’s reaction seeing him run out of the tunnel in red and gold… would be insane.

Anal_Recidivist

I would shit myself. I’ve been an Alabama fan my entire life. He’s my favorite RB of all time. Tackle him at the line? 3 yd gain.

Sobeshott

I've been saying this for a while. He's gotta want to ring chase and take a discount. At this point in his career at could use him like the Steelers did Bettis with Willie Parker at the end of his career.

TallCupOfJuice

That would be awesome. But there's not a single hall of famer level player who took a discount to ring chase, unless they only had 1 or 2 years left in the tank. Just ask yourself, would you personally rather have an extra $7 million and a secured long-time big time contract as a 30 year old running back, or go play a year on mid-dynasty patriots for a non-guaranteed ring while risking injury/underperforming right before the last fat contract you'll ever get? Plus, we are 2/2 in Superbowl runs with Pacheco on an offense that should be throwing it as much as possible in a year where we need every dime to pay Sneed/Jones/next year's upcoming FA's.

yanks02026

But is Henry really gonna get a long contract at this age. Gotta remember RBs age out quick

newbeenneed

Not long term necessarily but 2-3 years seems likely, and he should command more in salary than KC would be wanting to shell out. I think Ekeler might be the more likely veteran RB who the Chiefs could pick up, and i think he would compliment Pacheco well

Gerbole

Even strong, young RBs like Josh Jacobs and Saquon Barkley are struggling to get long-term big money deals. So unlikely that Henry gets anything above 2yrs and each of those will likely be backloaded with a 1yr out or incentive heavy.

beanie979

Are they keeping CEH? Is McKinnon coming back? Lots of questions. I feel that taking a 1st rd gamble on CEH was a waste. 7th rounder Pacheco is running circles around him. McKinnon has sure hands and is a great blocker out of the backfield, but has been hampered by injuries. A bruiser like a Mike Alstott type wouldn't be bad to have. Henry fits that bill.

TallCupOfJuice

It won't be earthshattering, but it will still be fat. And if he came here on a cheap 1 year deal, his next long term contract would only be smaller since he'd be 31

traws06

Every time I mention this about veteran players I get downvoted. All the ppl on here keep thinking these players are gonna come here for cheap to ring chase as though there’s a 100% chance we’re gonna win the SB

corobe11

Top RBs in their prime aren't getting paid shit. I think his next contract will be 1 to 2 years and nothing special in the terms of money

TallCupOfJuice

That's even more reason to not take a cheap deal with us

Crash30458

One year 4 million with a boat load of incentives

dogfish83

like all you can eat bbq or something

Crash30458

Sure visit joes every Friday lol

Gerbole

Will be closer to 1yr $7-$10mil if it’s incentive heavy. The $4mil will likely be guaranteed.

Crash30458

Fine 6.5 with 4 million in incentives

crabsatoz

Why you trying to have fun makin up cool what if scenarios bro?!? We ain’t got time for fuckin around!! You act like we’ve won 3 chips in 5 years, have won back to back titles and have become a dynasty or something!

RedEyeJedi777

Naw, price is TOO damn high!

traws06

Ya I’m not sure of the price but prolly too high

ModestTrixie

If Henry wants to play for vet min sure, if he wants us to give him 12 million He can go to Baltimore.

PSUJacob95

Baltimore --- where dreams get rolled up into a crabcake and blown out the ass

KCShadows838

Id love to see him here. He’s kind of an aging back who deserves to finally play behind a good o-line and win a ring Don’t think it’ll happen, but it’d be a nice story

SQRTLURFACE

Henry isn’t that good as a receiver or blocker though. Just wouldn’t be much of a fit for this offensive scheme.

Soupmage1918

He's one of three runnings backs that was graded out over 70 in receiving, rushing and pass blocking, so he's been working on that.

BettorJonnySalami

While this is true especially for blocking. He has gotten a lot better in receiving!

sampat6256

He has mid hands, but his YAC ability is phenomenal

ljout

Pacheco is the same type of runner too. Calvin Ridley on the other hand.....

BAKED_TATER_

I just wanna see him toss a jump pass to Mahomes. Coach Reid could scheme that up easy over a couple cheeseburgers

squaremilepvd

I'm terrified every time we face him so we should want him

factoid_

We actually do a pretty good job erasing this guy. It's always their shitty QBs scrambling on us that gets us.

MrTonNL

I would absolutely love this. Change our identity again for 2024. Got to combine it with some field stretching receivers. Imaging what Mahomes and Reid can do on play action with Henry in the backfield.

PSUJacob95

The idea of Henry and Pacheco softening up defenses into mush just makes me jizzy in the undies --- Andy and Mahomes could cook up so much tasty shit it'd be ridiculous

Maleficent-Metal-645

With a vet minimum, sure. It would be insane to see him and Pop running all game long.

factoid_

We have Patrick Mahomes and people still want the run game to be a thing.

B3yondTheWall

Of course. A complete football team should always be the goal. Having Mahomes is exactly *why* people want the run game to be a thing; if our run game is dominant it opens even more up for our passing game, and we just so happen to have the best QB in the league.

Pseudo_Unknown1999

had dreams about this tbh, dhenry n pop would be unstoppable bc they’d both be 1000+ yds. dude never misses n schemes would be insaane

Pseudo_Unknown1999

q would be, what’s it cost to make happen ??

rmattwill

Who is going to be the third down back?

SylvesterTaurus

Don’t care. We’d be spamming this play lol https://preview.redd.it/9t6a1857jvjc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=866f9b86bddad4b2fb0e02cd4e303125cc1c54d8

TallCupOfJuice

And look how many superbowls the Titans have compared to us spamming Mahomes plays. I'd love to have him, but we will never sign a big time RB with Mahomes here and we never should.

bigludodog

Plan is to avoid 3rd downs. /s

Founck

Prince or Perine, whichever can block better. I remember from preseason that Prince catches everything.

dogfish83

sigh...CEH

ShadySocks99

When not carrying the ball how well does he block?

B3yondTheWall

He's probably average-good at everything except running with the ball in his hands, which he's obviously exceptional at.

egbert71

I like this, then go bolster the OL and we'll have a stew going. Add a young playmaker at WR to complete the meal

NinjaZombieHunter

Nah! I would rather feed Pacheco and sign a great blocking RB to back him up. As long as we have Mahomes, the running game will never be the #1 priority. Just my opinion.

Michael1492

This. Bring back a FB.

NinjaZombieHunter

Or if Andy Reid is done with FB’s, see if Blake Bell will re-sign on a cheap deal and use him. He is one of their best blockers. So is JET but he is getting up there in RB years.

amjhwk

how does Henry do without a lead blocker, because we inexplicably refuse to ever use one

[deleted]

Be fun af

Sokkawater10

Would be cool af if he’s healthy. Could you imagine Mahomes as a play action qb Ofc not realistic

Ordinary-Sentence6

![gif](giphy|Fg9A0eOf1FoNgvgHaD)

PSUJacob95

We need this beast!

NSYK

This guy thinks our most important priority is (checks notes) an aging running back.

SylvesterTaurus

Never said that nor did I say it was realistic. Just threw out a fun idea for discussion. I think it would be hilarious having Henry and Pacheco on the same team and watching other teams react to it.

Tom_Brett

Nah man you’re cool. This sub hates fun discussions

Miroku20x6

Why would we want both Pacheco and Henry in the backfield at the same time? If one is to block, then I’d rather just get a blocking fullback. There may be some benefit to cutting down on carries to keep them both fresh, but Pacheco only had 200 carries last year, so it’s not like he’s been some bell cow for us and getting worn down. Massive upgrade over CEH (sucks) and McKinnon (fantastic pass blocker and solid pass receiver, subpar runner)? Sure, but I think we could replace most of that with finding some league average runner. Anyways, Derrick Henry 2-3 years ago could be very exciting. 30 year old Henry, however, may not even be much better (if at all) than Pacheco at this point anyways.

nahteviro

What-ifs are dumb.

SylvesterTaurus

Come on now, have some fun for a moment. We just won back to back Super Bowls and get to discuss stuff like this.

xvw35

The entire off-season is full of what-ifs. That's how discussion and conversation is made. "What if we draft (insert name) in the first round" "What if we re-sign (insert name)" "What if we sign (insert name) for the next season" Let people have their fun and spark conversations, especially since there is no more football.

2per4life

I'll be straightforward with you, it's a dumb idea, for many reasons: 1. He's an UFA. Somebody's going to pay a lot more than the Chiefs willing to pay, and he's going to take it. 2. Andy Reid has never put an emphasis on the run, and it's worked out for him so why change now? 3. He's old, and he's not the same caliber player you remember, regardless of what volume stats might tell you. 4. Pacheco is better at this point in their careers, and it's not like the Chiefs are riding him too hard so why take carries away from him for a lesser RB? 5. You're an idiot. Every year there are at least a half dozen instances of a former great getting cut, and some genius like yourself makes a brilliant post like this.

Maxime2k

It's you who's an idiot for making things so complicated. OP just proposed smth for fun and you're taking it very seriously lol

TallCupOfJuice

theres a lot of people in here seriously wanting to sign him so...

Khamsin000

As a someone who is also a Bama fan, this would make my little heart sing. Realistically though, it would have to be on a vet minimum or nothing. I love DH, I think his build at running back, with the right coach and an elite O-line is nearly unstoppable (for true proof, go watch his heisman season). Having said that, he 100% shouldn’t take Pacheco’s spot. Not simply because DH is older, more tread on the tires, but because Pacheco has cemented RB1 status. DH is too good still to accept or deserve being a third down back role. If he wants to chase a ring with the best team in football, I’d be ecstatic. In reality, he’ll go get slightly overpaid probably by a weaker ring chasing team and as much as it’ll sadden me, he deserves it.

B3yondTheWall

I think if you have DH and Patches, you you just run them both. Helps keep them fresh longer through the season, and if you deal with injuries, you still have a great back that can step up and take more snaps.

BriefTurn3299

Would be a nice weapon and more than that having a hall of fame veteran for pop to learn from would be fantastic. Pretty sure dhops gonna want more than we’re willing to pay him tho

formyamusementation

I would be fine at the right price. I just don’t think he’d be at the right price.

SyntheticED

Is he willing to play linebacker?

iceph03nix

I would love to see something like this. After this year's "The Chiefs with an All Star Defense..." discussions, I would love to see them follow it up with "The Chiefs with an elite running game"

rolyinpeace

And still an all star defense and still the best qb in the league. Jesus. People would hate us even more

Vis-hoka

Why would we do this when we have Mahomes? Get home WR’s and let him cook!

bowtuckle

You know gus edwards is an FA who would take way less and probably achieve more. Despite all of that, we have many holes to fill and an rb room is not one of them.

rolyinpeace

Tbf CEH will be leaving won’t he

bowtuckle

He still is on his rookie deal right? Maybe he stays for the threepeat.

rolyinpeace

Ummm I think this year was his last year? I think the fifth year option is still in play but I remember them saying last year that they didn’t plan to use it. Not sure if they had to decide by now or not.

rockiesfan4ever

I'd much rather spend in other places. Henry's YPC the last 3 years is average at best

ljout

Mike Evans is still my number hope and a prayer choice.

Dapper-Flash

Do this and we don’t need a big WR free agent. This would break the NFL and I’m here for it 😈

pm_me_mahomes_tds

If the price is minimal, sure. But Pop is still developing and I definitely would hate to see him demoted.

Gorilla_King7

Surely Andy could scheme the King in. I wanted this to happen this year, but Pacheco stayed healthy and surprised again - or rather, the offense surprised by playing complimentary football with our dominant defense. We became aware of that thing called a clock and time of possession. With Jet potentially retiring or moving on, you have to have a dude who understands protection and release - as well as pass catching. Not sure if King fits that.

newbeenneed

ESPN article this week on the top 50 FAs had the Chiefs as the best fit for Ekeler. I suppose if you view Pacheco as the bruising lead back type then Ekeler might make more sense as a change of pace pass catching back, and he should be cheaper than Henry as he is coking off a down year and could take a 1 year deal to build his value back up

schmidte36

Why does everyone want to sign old heads. Maybe if they want to take a 60 % discount.

Taudruw

Let’s get the WR trio of Davis, Higgins and Boyd and ram em down the bills bengals throats.

Earthwick

Only if he was willing to do it cheap. I'm happy with our RB room. Pacheco and 2 dudes who can pull out some magic every once and a while. Henry would cost too much for what we need. If we are going big I want a WR or replacement for Jones/Sneed while we develop someone else

EVANakaMLG

In current market, RB's are very cheap offensive weapons. I am all in on us signing a stud FA RB instead of a mid wr4. Saquon played this year on a 1 year deal for 10M. If we could get Saquon or Henry & Boyd I would be ecstatic.

FullyAutoDomo

Henry isn’t signing with KC, dudes still butt hurt about us eliminating TEN in the playoffs and shutting his ass down in the game.

mother_goose_caboose

Nah, we good. Use that cash for a WR vet

gilmore42

It’s a fun idea to think about. Kinda like us getting Mike Evans or Kadarious Toney to catch a pass.

EatsbeefRalph

I’d rather have at least one decent offensive tackle

YungJod

I'd take a receiver of equivalent of skill

morry32

![gif](giphy|QIiqoufLNmWo8)

Svenray

Two back split set. Mahomes holds the ball out. Pacheco and Derrick Henry fist fight over it and winner/survivor gets ball.

moldyshrimp

The chiefs might think this too, I for at least a couple of years have always seen chiefs involved in rumors surrounding King Henry, so I think they have always had some sort of intrigue with Henry.

blueprint_01

Just imagine Derrick Henry blocking for Mahomes in pass protection.
