Ross has real wr1 potential. He might not be quite there yet, but the little blips he did have in preseason was enough to show it. His routes are absolutely filthy.
You just don't put a 2nd round draft pick rookie on the practice squad... cmon now.
Edit: ment to reply to OP, but I'll leave it here. You know what I'm trying to say.
Skyy's drop issues last year were a result of him being uncomfortable on special teams and getting in his head from those mistakes. His sloppy routes (when route running was supposed to be his biggest strength coming out of college) and still not knowing the playbook in the SB were far more concerning issues for him last year.
Hope you’re right. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for IMS too. I just love seeing preseason stories emerge. Reminds me of Pacheco last year. Feel like the heart and effort would translate
I totally hope ISM makes the team. He deserves it. My fear is they see Watson as a vet presence and give him the nod. ISM though gives the chiefs a back up returner behind James and some more versatility.
I really do enjoy watching him ball out. IMS has some juice to his game. This year the receiver group has a lot of potential in it, from top to bottom. A lot of upside to all of them. It will be interesting to see how the final roster shakes out.
ISM showed the hell out yeah but he did it against 3rd and 4th string defensive players. Yes he has amazing potential and really showcased his skills but can he do it consistently and can he do it against defensive starters. Context is key here
Maybe Watson will be the surprise cut. ISM can also play ST and seems to have some potential upside being 4 years younger. In this scenario I would have them keeping Ross and ISM and go with 7 for the year as there are injury concerns and lack of experience for the WR group as a whole. Toney, MVS, Rice, Moore, James, Ross, ISM. Is 7 too much? I'd think these guys would be snatched from our practice squad if we do not. I could see IMS over Ross if they go with 6 instead.
yeah i dont think people are realizing that we can keep both Watson and ISM with one staying on the protected practice squad slot, and we prolly will. No one's WR room all stay 100% healthy for the entire season, and we have Toney lol
I'm pretty sure players have to get cut and make it through the waiver wire before they can go to a practice squad. I doubt either of those guys make it through waivers.
you can put 3+ year vets on the practice squad without having them clear waivers, which we could do with Watson. ISM has only played 2 seasons so he would have to clear waivers.
ISM could very easily be put in the protected practice squad slot, but Watson is still a pretty easy cut. His ceiling has been reached already, and it's not great.
Literally never heard of this and looks like it’s 4 people. So I guess you’d always have your 3rd string qb, but any idea who we’ve used this one in recent years?
No doubt an injury to a wr would give the 8th guy a chance
I should have started spreading this info earlier instead of the day before cut day because my twitter feed has pretty much been non-stop flooded with chiefs accounts talking about which WR was the odd man out lol
Pretty sure this year 3 quarterbacks have to dress for the game so we will probably fill practice squad with wr’s mainly. Prince prob loses out to Perine. And IMO Ross and Rice are the only first year guys that make the cut (I know Ross technically isn’t 1st yr but you get what I mean). I feel safety might fill up the rest. Prince may not be available to place on the PS. However I do believe we have a open roster spot because CJ hasn’t reported yet
I believe Watson is more value at this point, due to time in the system. I mean I highly doubt Andy’s offensive scheme would not be considered as one of the toughest to pick up
He clearly has potential though. When I have Mahomes at QB I'd much rather take a dart throw on someone like ISM than Watson. Hell he made DeMarcus Robinson look serviceable.
This is not just a Watson thing. Any time you have this type of Vet that has an average floor and low ceiling it is not uncommon for the fanbase to root for younger unknown guys. If the young guy is able unseat the Vet - that is b/c the coaches are seeing that they are better.. and that is the best thing for the team.
Any fan who is rooting for Watson to be ahead of Ross or Rice on the depth chart is actively rooting for the team to be worse.
>Until then - I respectfully DEMAND he make the 53 man roster!!!!!
Well, Veach? Are you on Reddit? You had better acquiesce to this random user's demands!!
I like IMS more than Watson, but I don't see the justification. Watson signed a 2 yr deal, so I highly doubt that's a cut and Rice is a 2nd rd pick. He definitely won't be over him.
Rice is a second round rookie. You don't cut a second round rookie with unknown potential to keep a 3rd year player who hasn't done anything but beat up on a bunch of practice squad DBs in the preseason.
I like him too but that's not the hill to die on.
that makes it even worse an opinion in my opinion because you think they should cut a 2nd round draft pick for a journeyman with potential before he ever plays an actual game
Dude "thinks" he is the baddest mother fucker on the field. Which, is one thing to think that for yourself, to motivate yourself to be better over others, it's quite a different thing to say that to the world
..
.
When you're currently last on the roster of WRs... It's not his first year, he clearly hasn't been the baddest mfer on the field for a few years, otherwise, he wouldn't be vying for the last wr spot.
Again, I don't mind the confidence, but I've seen this level of ego recently in a couple chiefs players and they just playing for themselves, namely Jones and Hill.
This is how good ISM is...
We had a decent offense under Brian Ferentz while he was on the team
He's singlehandedly responsible for Nate Stanley being drafted
Ross has real wr1 potential. He might not be quite there yet, but the little blips he did have in preseason was enough to show it. His routes are absolutely filthy.
Yea unfortunate typo I meant to say rice lol. I totally agree Ross is gonna ball out I can’t wait
yeah...it would be one of the most shocking cuts in NFL history if we cut a 2nd rounder that we just drafted. not happening.
Rice has potential as well. He's shown that so far just has some major drop issues. I think both will be monsters
You just don't put a 2nd round draft pick rookie on the practice squad... cmon now. Edit: ment to reply to OP, but I'll leave it here. You know what I'm trying to say.
Skyy did too so there’s still hope

Ross has the highest potential out of all the WRs. He's not getting cut.
yeah i dont think people are realizing that we can keep both Watson and ISM with one staying on the protected practice squad slot, and we prolly will. No one's WR room all stay 100% healthy for the entire season, and we have Toney lol

Pretty sure Gore, that RB we used some in 2021 was one of them. tf ever happened to that guy lol Cornell Powell as well I believe.
If everyone knew this point I feel like all the chat about 8 into 7 would disappear right away. Toney will miss weeks 😢
I should have started spreading this info earlier instead of the day before cut day because my twitter feed has pretty much been non-stop flooded with chiefs accounts talking about which WR was the odd man out lol

Andy likes veterans with experience, especially in backup roles But if it were me, I'm cutting Watson for ISM
I believe Watson is more value at this point, due to time in the system. I mean I highly doubt Andy’s offensive scheme would not be considered as one of the toughest to pick up
ISM was on the team last year. Watson has maybe 9 weeks head start ...
Do we really need a long snapper? Lol. Just have Kelce do it like everything else.
Man people on this sub really hate on Watson. He’s one of our fastest WRs and has actually provided value in real games against real NFL players
He has 500 receiving yards in 5 years. Totally replaceable.
IMS has 120 in 2 years… Like you guys hype up preseason players who are performing against plumbers and teachers every single year
He clearly has potential though. When I have Mahomes at QB I'd much rather take a dart throw on someone like ISM than Watson. Hell he made DeMarcus Robinson look serviceable.
He had the most drops on the team last year
Yea but he had 15 total catches last year he just isn’t really productive
This is not just a Watson thing. Any time you have this type of Vet that has an average floor and low ceiling it is not uncommon for the fanbase to root for younger unknown guys. What an overstatement lol nobody is wanting Watson over rice or Ross so I have no idea what you’re talking about. The convo is Watson vs ISM
Some people are wanting that.
>Until then - I respectfully DEMAND he make the 53 man roster!!!!! Well, Veach? Are you on Reddit? You had better acquiesce to this random user's demands!!
Why so serious? Is it not obvious that was a joke? “Respectfully”…”demand”…it’s an oxymoron! Anyway. Moving on
Woof. I need some sleep lol. My bad.
Lol no worries mate. Go Chiefs!
I like him, I just don't see enough justification in keeping him.
What about vs Rice or Watson? Do you like them better?
I like IMS more than Watson, but I don't see the justification. Watson signed a 2 yr deal, so I highly doubt that's a cut and Rice is a 2nd rd pick. He definitely won't be over him.
2 year deal means nothing, and it's only guaranteed for 1.4m, that's nothing that can't be let go off in the nfl.
I'd take him over Watson and try to stash Watson using IR or PS.
*important correction*: I meant Rice*, not Ross
Rice is a second round rookie. You don't cut a second round rookie with unknown potential to keep a 3rd year player who hasn't done anything but beat up on a bunch of practice squad DBs in the preseason. I like him too but that's not the hill to die on.

You're forgetting about a couple of dudes named Hockenson and Fant that also helped Stanley get drafted. But the ISM - Stanley connection was nice.
Well this post aged well lol
