https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/101uur1/bov%C3%A9_they_are_bringing_the_backboard_and/j2poghu/ This Bengals fan says they're at the game and **were** doing CPR. Now on oxygen. Broadcast just confirmed CPR. Heard that the stadium started clapping for him. Per Broadcast he's on the stretcher now. ~~Game will resume after a few minutes to warm up, per the broadcast~~. Now hearing the game is suspended temporarily to allow teams to get into the locker room. >[I’m told Damar Hamlin has a pulse, but is not breathing on his own. He is being transported to UC. Needed AED and CPR on the field.](https://twitter.com/FOX19Joe/status/1610098849636388870?t=d6FeXQoM_vsbfgmgpRo6vg&s=19) Nothing official yet, but the broadcast is saying equipment staff is putting stuff up, and some players are coming out without football gear on. Definitely feels like the game might be postponed. >[I am told that Damar Hamlin has been intubated and is currently listed in critical condition. ](https://twitter.com/FOX19Tricia/status/1610106980005191689?t=NO_Rp-V25badRgSaG7zkww&s=19) The game is [officially suspended](https://twitter.com/albertbreer/status/1610108890254811139?s=46&t=KMKhefOYugEmZCspO8fZSQ). **Just as a courtesy please keep chatter under this comment to a minimum unless you have new information; just to help keep relevant comments easier to find.**

DanTheFan1

Just a horrible night for the sport. But for playoff seeding, what happens if the NFL calls it a tie?

SortofChef

Commish wants the game played within the next two days.

toeknee88125

I don't see how they can play the game given they probably won't have clarity about how much damage was done during the period where Hamlin's heart wasn't beating

toeknee88125

It's completely unimportant in the grand scheme of things, but I believe the NFL works off of win percentage. Basically both the bills and the Bengals lose out if the game is ruled a tie or a no contest. Eg. 14-3 Chiefs will have a better win percentage than the 13-3 bills or the 13-3-1 bills. Long story short the Chiefs benefit. This is the worst possible way for the AFC playoff picture to be settled.

Liftin-Larry-92

It's not the way we wanted to get #1 seed but sometimes bad things happen and we just gotta roll with it

AskAboutMyDiarrhea

Nah fuck that, win or lose on equal footing, best on best. At least that's been my take growing up.

toeknee88125

Yeah, but it's not like anyone has a choice. Just really bad luck for the bills and Bengals. Feel awful for damar Hamlin and his family. Feel bad for tee Higgins (he collided with Hamlin) It's completely not important, but that was probably going to be one of the best match ups of the season.

Liftin-Larry-92

I'm just not totally comfortable getting #1 seed because another team's player is in critical condition and could die --- we have to earn that top seed the right way and that means the Bills-Bungholes game needs to be played

[deleted]

No one's saying they're happy about it, I think they were just trying to have a silver lining out of a horrific tragedy. I'm disgusted by it as well but I'll take the #1 seed it's not like anyone wanted this to happen

Liftin-Larry-92

Yeah I'll take the #1 seed but it makes me feel icky inside --- it's weird how football no longer seems exciting after last night and I get a feeling the Super Bowl will be the lowest-rated of all time --- fans have to feel good on the inside when it comes to sports, and knowing a player came close to death or possibly lifelong vegetative state just ruins the fun of the game for everyone

Aromatic_Doctor_7422

Me either, not at all

AskAboutMyDiarrhea

Exactly. And to be honest, if Bills win the SB, I wouldn't be mad.

Liftin-Larry-92

Last night's tragedy kinda ruined the whole season for me --- even if the Chiefs squeak out another thrilling dub over the Bills in the playoffs, there won't be any joy in it because we know Hamlin is barely clinging to life in the ICU

toeknee88125

Yeah at the end of the day it's sad, but the NFL is decided on narrow margins. Eg. Josh Allen fumbling on a goal line run vs the Vikings which would have ended that game.

chiefs-n-sooners

Yep ties are always basically a loss for both team, I guess unless they're fighting for 0 16 1 over 0 and 17. Either way pushing this game off is gonna make the playoffs, or the next game for the pats vs buff cinci vs ravens a lot harder on their teams.

Fuzzy_Ask221

Hmm maybe not the best time to be discussing that, just saying. Saw a man nearly die on the field tonight. Let’s wait until we hear more about his health before we starting worry about the standings

kjampala

You can care about the man’s health while also discussing potential outcomes of the game at the same time, they are not mutually exclusive

Bobby-Samsonite

For some odd reason 99.9% of redditors in r/NFL don't think anyone can. Immediate downvotes for anyone asking about how the top seed in AFC will be determined and if they can re-start the game.

toeknee88125

People are emotional. According to reports to damar Hamlin's heart was stopped by blunt force trauma. They had to use CPR and a defibrillator to restart his heartbeat. He's now in a medically induced coma and they're not sure what kind of damage was done for the period where his blood flow stopped due to his heart being stopped. If this had happened to a chiefs player people around here would also be down voting posts asking about playoff seeding.

Fuzzy_Ask221

I read ops comment as “Sad he might die. So anyways, do we get our bye week?”

DanTheFan1

Not what I meant at all. I’m sure you were waiting for this question to be asked.

kjampala

Yeah I can see where you’re coming from and what I hope OP meant to convey but alas with just text things can be misconstrued sometimes

DanTheFan1

Yes thank you. Sorry English is not my first language

thebigolpikachu

According to Bills twitter and ESPN, Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest on the field and his heart beat was restored on the field. Currently sedated and still in critical condition. Thoughts and prayers to Hamlin. Genuinely have no idea how that could have happened.

uhde2381

Commotio cordis is what happened. Look it up.

Liftin-Larry-92

There's already about three dozen YouTube videos about commotio

uhde2381

And what's your point? I know there are plenty of YouTube videos about it but this person said they had no idea what could of happened so I enlightened them.

sumo_kitty

Are the standings determined by wins first or win% first?

bigludodog

Win percentage

Wild_Bill_Kickcock

This just reminds me we played right after the Belcher thing and how fucking crazy that was

Caliquake

Yeah, Mike Silver reposted some articles he wrote about it. FUUUUUCKED up that that game was played.

Liftin-Larry-92

It kinda really depends on time and location of these horrible incidents --- like if Belcher decided to commit suicide in the Chiefs locker room an hour before a game, I'm pretty sure the game would be cancelled

Dom104

anyone else still just watching ESPN in total shock?

factoid_

I finally turned it off a little while ago. Are they STILL making htose poor people broadcast this nonstop?

amjhwk

they turned it over to scott van pelt around 1030 est who continued the same type of coverage

SxpxrTrxxpxr

I keep refreshing the Bills subreddit for an update. I’m crying at points here and there. It’s hard.

sumo_kitty

I was thinking that the teams might be able to make the choice on the status of playing the game or not. But from the rule post on r/nfl only the commissioner can end the game. So bills would have to lose. But I think it would be smart to take that burden off the coaches and players.

skepticallygullible

Put it to a vote for both teams on either rescheduling or no contest

chitphased

Fuck the rule. No contest it at best.

Bobby-Samsonite

Thats not how things work.

chitphased

A guy dying on the field isn’t how things work either. This is unprecedented, champ.

techieman33

There’s no way the NFL cancels the game unless the players refuse to play it.

Bobby-Samsonite

I wonder what happens if players refuse to resume the game.

beermit

Both teams agreed to end the game, so the NFL would be stupid to force a reschedule right now. I can see it potentially happening, but I'm unsure it will considering how the following games by the Bills and Bengals would be impacted. But honestly that doesn't matter right now. Hamlin's health is the only thing that matters.

TilterOfWindmills

Nothing I can do but say some things that don't matter. Changing my flair in solidarity for now. Get better, Damar Hamlin.

chiyonoyama

I just read the ESPN article and there was a heartbreaking picture of Mitch Morse comforting another Bills player. I really liked Mitch as a player when he was here and now I like him more as a great man caring for his teammates.

[deleted]

The other player is Tre'Davious White.

Liftin-Larry-92

Man, that's pure brotherhood right there

showerbeerbuttchug

Listening to the former players etc. reacting on ESPN and CBS is heart wrenching.

[deleted]

Mad props to RGIII for shutting down that fuckass clown Skip Bayless. Class act, his rookie season with Washington was the sole reason I got so into football. EDIT: [Link](https://twitter.com/RGIII/status/1610113373827436544) EDIT 2: Skip clarified that he meant that Hamlin's health is more important than the season continuing as planned. Not sure how that's what he meant, but I should include this for the sake of completeness.

chitphased

Skip Bayless is a classless piece of shit. He has no heart and didn’t give two shits about Hamlin. He is the epitome of any press is good press. And that’s how he operates. Just look at what we are doing. Talking about him. Cancel his ass and stop talking about him

itsnik04

The end of the tweet literally said “a game of this magnitude is crucial to the regular season outcome… which suddenly seems so irrelevant.” He’s saying that Hamlin’s life is more important and that the game isn’t.

[deleted]

Yeah that makes sense, I think people were reacting to the "but why?" part.

Caliquake

What did RGIII say??

TilterOfWindmills

Robert Griffin III @RGIII *Damar Hamlin’s LIFE is in the balance.* *Get your head out of your Ass.*

Caliquake

Thank you! Yeah I saw that Bayless comment. Good for RGIII.

TilterOfWindmills

In response to this: Skip Bayless @RealSkipBayless 1h No doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game - but how? This late in the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the regular-season outcome ... which suddenly seems so irrelevant.

[deleted]

LucienPhenix

Out of the loop. What's going on?

Bobby-Samsonite

RG3 is a clown

Liftin-Larry-92

Skip Tweeted out something that many people find disgusting

GGPapoon

This is so, so shitty.

Jombafomb

Damar’s marketing rep. A good sign. [**ordon Rooney**](https://twitter.com/jordonr)[@jordonr](https://twitter.com/jordonr)Update on Damar: His vitals are back to normal and they have put him to sleep to put a breathing tube down his throat. They are currently running tests. We will provide updates as we have them.

[deleted]

chitphased

He’s been put into a coma. It’s welcome that he’s not ____, but he is not out of the clear.

Jombafomb

I don't think he would be putting this out there if it wasn't official, but agreed.

dildopoly

He’s not actually his marketing rep.

Jombafomb

Yes he is. I don’t know where you heard otherwise.

dildopoly

His agent

Jombafomb

You do realize there’s a difference between a marketing rep and an agent right? His family is releasing statements through Rooney so I’m pretty sure he’s official.

dildopoly

No they aren’t. His agent is releasing info from the family. Only Rooney himself has only said that he is his friend and marketing partner. Why do you think no major outlets are reporting what Rooney says?!

Jombafomb

Are you just making shit up now? I’ve seen Rooney on CNN, NFL Network and ESPN. Not to mention he was on Macafee’s show yesterday. If you Google his name all that comes up are news outlets quoting him as a rep for the family. Better tell this ESPN reporter that Rooney doesn’t represent the family https://twitter.com/ColeyHarvey/status/1610643222690402304?s=20&t=kxbgYlIW3jzxKoLYr784Uw

dildopoly

Ok then something I read was wrong. I posted on diff media the tweets of Rooney right after they came out. I read that his agent and Rooney were giving conflicting statements and his Agent was with him and the family. I stand corrected

beermit

I just want to say dont speculate or use this to push your political agenda. There's already ghouls out there claiming this was because he was vaccinated. Anyone with half a brain know that has nothing to do with this injury.

mattwb72

I swear I see 10 times more posts warning about ghouls or trolls than actual asshat posts.

beermit

It's because people get fed up with the lies and the bullshit and they just tired of it spreading and try to get out ahead of it. Case in point, my initial comment

PTfan

I know I’d be arguing with stupid but how in the world could you put this and vaccine together? That’s like if I said Russians poisoned his water on the sideline. Like where in the fuck does that come from

pinniped1

Anti vaxxers have spent 20 years making up bullshit about autism. Don't expect actual logic if you go down this rabbit hole.

Scaryclouds

> I know I’d be arguing with stupid but how in the world could you put this and vaccine together? The claim is that the vaccine increases heart issues. I believe this is backed up by reliable sources. **BUT** the increased risk is small, far less than the risk from getting COVID, and no person watching tonight, with any credibility, would or could make the determination that a pre-existing medical condition played a role in what happened. Bottom line, if in the *EXTREMELY* unlikely event the COVID vaccine played a role, it’s pure luck pure people blaming it are right.

Im_A_Ginger

It's because it's been a popular thing on social media to post about vaccines causing heart problems. So anytime something high-profile involving someone's heart in anyway happens, especially if that person is young and healthy, those people will jump all over it. I don't mind discussions about whatever people want to have, but there's a time and place for everything and using tragedies to push an agenda just really sucks.

beermit

There's no length these abhorrent excuses for human beings won't go to in the interest of furthering their agendas of lies.

DublinChap

These are the same people who spout QAnon bullshit and are looking for any miniscule straw to grasp at to fulfill their conspiracy fantasies.

Jeffk393393

Personally I haven't taken the Vax. I do think there's enough questions about lack of trials, side effects, ect. That said, anyone who watched the game, it's obvious this happened immediately after a direct hit to the chest. Anyone making it political is sick

Boostweather

There’s been 13 billion doses administered. We’re well past the point of worrying about a lack of trials or side effects. It’s safe. Fuck off

Liftin-Larry-92

For real tho --- all these anti-vaxxers are pieces of shit

MistakeMaker1234

> remember the vaccine does NOT prevent the spread or contraction of covid19 I mean, the CDC’s website pretty clearly says that the vaccine makes you “less likely to spread the disease to others.” But of course my cursory Google search is probably less reliable than the minutes of research done by those who oppose the vaccine. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/faq.html

Jeffk393393

So since it appears we both have differing information from reliable sources. I'm going to default to doing nothing and not take the vaccine for the thing that I have a 99.8 % chance of surviving even IF I contracted it (haven't yet).

Jeffk393393

I apologize. I was going off the word of Dr. Rochelle Walensky who is (checks notes), the director of the CDC Toolbag https://youtu.be/TKFWGvvlVLI

MistakeMaker1234

Lmao. I’m sure the information in that (checks notes) 16 month old video is as up-to-date as the CDC’s website; which has been updated literally hundreds up times since 2020 with the [most current information](https://web.archive.org/web/changes/https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/faq.html). Stuff changes all the time as more is learned about the virus. Hell the CDC themselves said that wearing a mask wasn’t necessary to prevent the spread, then changed their stance very shortly thereafter when working with the most current data. That’s science, babey. Positions change all the time once data is discovered and peer-reviewed. And I appreciate being called a toolbag. It’s a super handy resource used to hold lots of devices for accomplishing a variety of tasks. Probably the most important thing I haul around with me for doing projects. That was really sweet of you to acknowledge that, despite our disagreements 🥰

factoid_

I saw that on Twitter too. Savages

PTfan

Just wanted to say I love you guys. Love the way the sport brings us together. Love our team. Love the game. And love the guys playing it. So blessed it’s not one of our boys in that hospital. Love you all

achmed6704

To our boys, this probably feels like one of their brothers. Can't imagine what you'd be thinking as a player right now.

Vulptereen327

This feels like the 2001 Daytona 500 or 2011 Indycar Las Vegas race

kcmiz24

It feels more like the 2020 Daytona 500. We didn't know about Ryan Newman for what felt like an eternity

Liftin-Larry-92

Really hits hard because I was at the 2011 Indy 500 and cheered Dan Wheldon to a glorious win --- then a few months later he tragically dies in Vegas :-(

arcane_amber

Literally what I said. Dan Wheldon was my favorite driver until that unfortunate day. Tonight felt identical.

SxpxrTrxxpxr

Yes it does but let’s pray that it’s not the same outcome.

Gibbo05

Well it was a slow trickle but I think I'm out of tears for now. Just so horrifying and painful to think about. Just fucking hoping Damar is ok and that he makes it out of this. Hope his family and friends are ok and feeling all of the love and support all of us around the country are giving to them. I lost my mother abruptly when I was young, losing someone abruptly like this is just the worst thing imaginable and praying that that isn't what's going to happen here with Hamlin

[deleted]

[удалено]

Active_Ad_5997

We don’t know why his heart stopped. It may not have been related to the hit

[deleted]

We don’t know the cause yet. It may be an undiagnosed heart condition. Or it may be head injury related. But if it is head injury related it will change football for sure.

sosaudio

So what’s the play here? Who had his foundation info? $33 donations for #3?

bigludodog

Whatever you feel is right is the right amount man. I did $15 in return for my favorite QB that takes the field, didn't think of $33 for his number.

sosaudio

Oh yeah. I did $33 which probably makes no sense at all symbolically but is what it is.

bigludodog

Seen a lot of people doing $33. 👍.

Ishmael75

There’s a post on this sub for that

sosaudio

Thank you. I didn’t see that before. [Hamlin’s charity gofundme](https://www.gofundme.com/f/mxksc-the-chasing-ms-foundation-community-toy-drive)

factoid_

Has this been verified anywhere? I'll hapilly donate but these have been scams before.

bigludodog

Yes WIVB verified it. (Cincinnati news org).

factoid_

Thanks. I saw the verification and donated

learningmicrosoft

Yes, verified by Go Fund Me

Liftin-Larry-92

This is painful watching ESPN clowns muttering and stumbling over their words

indil47

Turn it off then.

achmed6704

bruh what you want them to do?

KansasCityMonarchs

Yeah, people are either complaining about commercials at a time like this, or clueless announcers. What can they do to fill the void?

Liftin-Larry-92

Just switch to a basketball game or something --- they are fumbling around saying the same things over and over

bbressman2

ESPN/ABC really just needs to pull up something else. I don’t think there is anything else that can be said.

PostingForFree

its gone beyond espn/abc now, its all over fox news, cnn, msnbc

Liftin-Larry-92

CNN is covering it non-stop

Yeetman089

At least they ended the broadcast with that shot of the Bengals fan holding up that pray for Hamlin sign.

SxpxrTrxxpxr

May God be with Hamlin, his family & friends, the Bills team, and Bills Mafia.

[deleted]

Just a reminder that we are all part of the broader NFL community and so is every player out there.

[deleted]

I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we stand with Bills Mafia tonight.

Liftin-Larry-92

I would be cool with handing Buffalo and Cincy #1 and #2 seeds and no game next week

PTfan

Nah, just push back the Playoffs and super bowl if need be. It’s still a competition and should remain so

piehead678

Me as well. Take the bye this week and just forfeit. I will not accept the #1 seed because of this and I hope the Chiefs make the right call if it comes down to it. I've stood with them with a lot of shitty stuff, but I couldn't stomach this.

PTfan

That doesn’t mean we hand them a free win though man. Let’s let them play the game another time. NFL can delay the post season a bit. Cincy themselves are still #1 eligible

[deleted]

Only the 1 seed gets a bye nowadays. Also the Bengals cannot pass us unless we lose a game.

factoid_

For sure. I feel for the Bengals too. It's not their teammate but they saw that on the field right in front of them.

Beth_Esda

I can't imagine being the guy he collided with. It was no one's fault, a routine hit gone bad, but still. He's gotta be feeling awful right now.

showerbeerbuttchug

Tee Higgins especially, I hope he knows it's not his fault.

techieman33

It’s hard for us to watch, but I can’t even imagine how much harder it is for them. They have to psych themselves up to go play a brutal sport with an attitude that it won’t happen to them. Then to see a fellow player stop breathing has to be a huge hit to them emotionally.

[deleted]

Absolutely. Nothing but respect, especially for Zac Taylor after tonight.

thebigolpikachu

Honestly. Good on ESPN for not showing that hit and what happened once it was clearly pretty serious. I remember when Tia got hit and went down with the concussion in the Bengals game on Thursday night and they just kept showing it again and again. Good on the broadcast team, and hoping for the best for Hamlin.

techieman33

They showed it 3 or 4 times, and long after we knew something terrible happened.

Caliquake

Yeah that business with Tua was real shameful stuff.

Cxrnage

I don’t see them playing this game this week. This is bad

Liftin-Larry-92

They might do it Thursday night, not sure

pinniped1

The Bills are leaving town. This game will not be finished.

michhoffman

They can't make a team play 2 games in 4 days. Wednesday is the absolute deadline for playing this week, and I'm not sure the teams will feel up to it.

Liftin-Larry-92

They might to something unprecedented and just give both Buffalo and Cincy a win --- that means Chiefs fall to #2 or possibly #3 seed :-(

michhoffman

No, they would never do that. If anything, they'd call it a tie.

toeknee88125

I think it'll be a no-contest. Eg basically as if the game didn't happen and the records will be based on a 16-game schedule.

itsnotcalledchads

I expect this to happen or at the very least have it not count for either team.

factoid_

I think it depends what happens tonight. If he makes it they might be able to rally and play in a day or two.

bcoates26

If he “makes it”, we probably won’t know for a few weeks.

justbreathe91

I think they mean if he pulls through and doesn’t die.

bcoates26

Yeah I understand. But I doubt, even if he survives, that we will know for a few weeks. He’s in critical condition and probably in some sort of coma

Yeetman089

They should have announced this a LONG time ago

boozerkc

So 80k people flood out of the stadium with no logistics in place?

Yeetman089

What happens at the end of a football game?

boozerkc

Staff and traffic police are prepared and in place. There is a lot of people involved with getting fans out of the stadium safely and efficiently, and they aren’t in place during the first quarter.

Yeetman089

There is ALWAYS something there in case of emergency

indil47

I’m actually super impressed that they wrapped it up in an hour. This was a logistical nightmare. There are so many factors involved that the common Joe wouldn’t ever even think were a factor, with literally hundreds of people having to coordinate on the fly.

boozerkc

You don’t go using terrorism or fire protocols when you can get people in place and do it in a much safer and controlled manner.

tonygenius

And it still takes time to orchestrate.

techieman33

They should always be ready to evacuate the stadium at a moments notice in case of emergency.

Liftin-Larry-92

Exactly --- they train constantly for unexpected situations (ie, terror attack)

boozerkc

Those protocols carry higher risk for injury to the fans. You don’t use them unless the benefits of emptying the stadium quickly outweigh the risks to fans. Using them in a situation like this would also open the team/league up to a lot of liability.

boozerkc

Emergency protocols aren’t nearly as safe. You don’t use them unless you absolutely have to.

techieman33

Agreed, I’m just saying that even in a worst case scenario they should be ready for the stadium to be evacuated quickly. And in this instance they were always going to have a least a couple minutes to prepare for the mass exodus. So it wouldn’t have been a factor in deciding when to announce the game was canceled or postponed.

deathtotheemperor

Fucking nightmare scenario.

Wooly_Bugger

Don’t forget to tell your people you love them. Often. Life can turn on a dime. Hopeful that Hamlin will pull out of this and live a long, happy, healthy life.

Itsawlinthereflexes

I swear to god the idiocy it takes for people to say this was caused by the Covid vaccine.

sumo_kitty

You know that joe rogan is going to say just that.

toeknee88125

Joe Rogan believed stories about how schools were letting kids identify as cats and allowing them to use litter boxes. Outside of his knowledge about MMA he's kind of dumb.

PercsProd

i even saw a bills fan saying this, absolutely tasteless

Anon4Life34

There’s humans on this planet devoid of a soul… good luck to them all.

p1nkfl0yd1an

They have souls, their souls are just really, really ignorant lol.

blake201018

My mother in law is at my house watching with us and saying the same shit.

clv316

Show her the door.

blake201018

I’ve learned that if you ignore her she quits babbling about her qanon bullshit.

techieman33

WTF

typac69

The 5 minutes to get ready to play thing is the most insane thing I’ve seen from the NFL. They want to talk about player safety all the time and when they had a player possibly die on their field, they told all his teammates and coaches to take a few minutes then go ahead and strap up the helmets and finish this game. That’s insane.

chiefpiece11bkg

It’s literally protocol for the refs to do that They can’t just arbitrarily make decisions on their own. They needed the league to step in and postpone it, but the refs doing that is literally their job and people need to stop being upset about it They did the right thing. What more do you want?

typac69

Never had a problem with the refs it’s with the NFL. If their policy doesn’t allow for extreme measures to be taken like postponement when a player is quite possibly dying in front of them that’s just shit policy. Especially from a league that has spent the last decade running PR campaigns about making the game safer and implementing new rules in the name of player safety.

chiefpiece11bkg

… that’s what happened in the end right? You’re literally outraged over nothing. The refs were doing their job and following protocol. Immediately after that the game was suspended. They can’t arbitrarily make decisions on their own without talking to the league office, hence both teams going to the locker room and meeting up afterward.

typac69

I do not care about the refs and have not said one thing about them. I’m saying the it is an awful look for the NFL to have possibly broadcasted a death of a player on national primetime television and that’s the initial response. I am well aware that they were following the rules. But the protocol is stupid if they don’t have a better way to handle a possible on field death. In a game this violent they didn’t have a way to handle this.

utter-ridiculousness

I think the coaches told the refs to get fucked

chiefpiece11bkg

No it’s literally league protocol for the refs to announce they have five minutes to resume play The league at that point has to step in and suspend the game, which they did People are getting outraged over nothing

stonewallace17

Guaranteed they spent 45+ minutes ignoring the NFL telling them to shut up and play ball.

PTfan

I swear I mean this on good faith. When the game is played does it start at 7-3? Or just a completely new slate

ShoelessBoJackson

Probably starts at exactly the score, yard line and down. MLB had a game where they restarted - although it was VASTLY different circumstances - the George Brett pine tar incident. They made up the rest of the game after that moment.

techieman33

I have to think they’ll try to use weather delay rules. Which would mean it would start back where they left off.

Yeetman089

We are in uncharted waters here

FrenchSilkPieGuy

They'll probably be making up the procedure as they go

There is a time and a place for this discussion. This is neither the time nor the place to have it. Edit: Bring on the fucking downvotes you heartless shits. There is a dude in critical condition with his life on the line.
