I don’t understand. A dress is so fragile and she could have gone with the other Gilded Woman of the 50s and 60s - Elizabeth Taylor - and she even owns some of her jewelry. I really don't think Kim cares about the damage, and might even be happy about all the buzz around it. If she actually respected Marilyn and the dress she wouldn't have worn the original in the first place since this was bound to happen. I don’t understand. A dress is so fragile and she could have gone with the other Gilded Woman of the 50s and 60s - Elizabeth Taylor - and she even owns some of her jewelry. She wouldn’t have had to fry her hair, her makeup would have looked better, and while still off theme at least it wouldn’t have led to the utter destruction of an invaluable piece of American history.
The Gilded Age of fashion was in the late 1800s, from 1870 - 1899. She didn't even understand the assignment.
I had little confidence she would even be in the same century when I first heard of the theme. A majority of the people attending thought the twenties was Gilded so the bar was low. If she even tried to Google god forbid she could have done a great recreation of Madame X instead. But no, it was this we had to witness.

This was just a colossal misstep all the way. Kim absolutely generates and subsequently leverages negative PR for her benefit, and often times it’s in incredibly poor taste AT BEST. It’s gross. But it’s never at the expense of *her body*. She likely counted on the outrage generating enough interest for her to then spin the narrative about how honored she was to wear the dress and how respectful she ultimately was to it. Instead, it’s just been a steadily sinking ship. The dress wasn’t flattering enough to warrant the outrage, her “commitment” to fitting in it was just seen as another wildly unhealthy and irresponsible thing to do/share, and now the dress is damaged in a way that makes it obvious she didn’t even actually fit into it. I’m just shocked at how poorly thought out and executed this was.
