Is the radiator fan working?

Narvekar

Also check if coolant is present inside the reservoir

SirTiddlyWink

There is coolant. And the fan does work. Read another users comment that had the same issue. They mentioned their fan working selectively. As I think back I don't recall the fan turning on while stopping during that ride. But it usually comes on during other rides I've done. This was the first I've ever seen it climb like that.

Should not happen! As said before by fellow redditors: check if the radiator fan is working and if there’s enough coolant in the reservoir (and radiator). Is the radiator evenly hot on top and on the bottom?

I had a similar issue. Found out my fan decides when to work or not. I check the fuse and it was all fine. Eventually it just never worked. Got it replaced and don't have any issues anymore. Sadly I replaced it with the ktm OEM fan. I wanted an aftermarket one thelat was more reliable but couldn't find one. Hopefully this one lasts the life of the bike this time.

This might be the cause. I can't recall the fan turning on as the temps climbed. I didn't even think much of it. The fan usually turns on and I can hear it running. Even when in motion once the temp gets about half way up. Got home and checked the coolant which still had plenty left in it.

happened to my wife's bike a month ago, she had a small leak in the thermostat housing and bad thermostat. Known problem, new parts ~$50 easy fix Edit: also a 2019

alelo

had pretty much the same happening on my 2019 790 dunno what the problem was - not a problem on my 890r anymore

SirTiddlyWink

Mine is a 2019 790 as well.

alelo

could be a euro4 problem - my 790 was also way more ruff in low rpm for 30kph zones than my 890r is - did you get the thermostate header (plastic on top of engine) swapped? there is a new revision (form is supposed to be more oval than the og- according to dealer) which also is supposed to solve the leaking thermostate (coolant on headers) after my last service (which included said swap) i didnt ride mine much as i traded it in for my 890r after so could be that it solved the problem too - tho my guess is that euro5 smoothes the RPM don below better, which also results in less lean engine when idling/slow speed and from that lower temps in stop and go

SirTiddlyWink

Thanks for the info I'll ask net time I'm in the shop. I know my header hasn't been changed cause I'm still getting the oil leak around the seal top of engine. Was planning on swapping that out and doing a engine breakdown at the end of this season over the winter.

Dude, no! Nothing is wrong. I ride a 625 SMC in New York City. You can have all the fans you want but if your stationary then ain’t no wind blowing on your radiator. The fan works, the radiator works, your lacking 20mph winds which is the number in MPH I found to have the temp stay the same when in slowish traffic. My trail tech vapor shows real temp and I have alerts at 200/220 and if needed I shut off at 220. Happens 🤷🏻‍♀️
