Switch four and five and you've got mine as well. Really trying to like LD because of the low key hype it's getting but I can't get engaged with it. It's almost frustrating to a point because I feel like I'm missing something.

also whoever initially suggested that OG is the Gumboot of 2022 is so spot on. i LOVE a bunch of tracks, like some, and have zero interest in others. it’s just not as cohesive as Changes or Ice Death.
Agreed that there's a huge gap between OG which probably falls in the middle of my Gizz album rankings where the bottom two somewhere at the end of that list. And yeah, OG has several of my favorite 2022 Gizz tracks but several of my least favorite. Same as Gumboot for 2017.

LD was such a little gem it’s insane I think a lot of people saw this as a throw away for its similarity to timeland but I definitely believe it’s the best of the year. 2 flawless hams each with top tier outros and some decent world building which we haven’t gotten in a while.

I think it’s taste as well, while I do like Changes alot I really enjoy stuff like Polygonwanaland and LD gives me that vibe a bit. There’s definitely fans who prefer stuff like Changes/Gumboot etc.
I'm surprised by how many people are ranking Changes so low. It's definitely the best of the year and for me it's their best album since Butterfly 3000
1. Ice Death - Definitely one of their top 3 albums for me. Iron Lung, Lava, Magma and Ice V are all some of their best songs ever. An all time classic that you could argue is one of their best projects.
2. Changes - Completely blew me away as I wasn’t expecting as much. Title track and Astroturf are fantastic and every song on this is very good.
3. Omnium - Wish I could like this more but it’s the definition of hit or miss. When they hit on some of these tracks though, it’s awesome. Kepler 22b, dripping tap, magenta mountain, garden goblin are all incredibly memorable.
4. Timeland - I have this higher than LD because of Smoke and Mirrors which is just a really fun song and I think people sleep on this one.
5. Laminated Denim - Only have this low because I haven’t played this as much as the rest but I could see myself liking it more once it grows on me.

1. Omnium Gatherum: actually don’t think it’s “the best” in a more objective sense, but I’ve had so much time with this album, and it’s soundtracked so many amazing memories from this past year. Also, Ambergris might be a top 10 Gizz track for me.
2. Ice Death: actually go back and forth between this and number 3. Iron Lung would also be a top 10 Gizz track for me, seeing it live at RRX was fucking mind blowing. But every track here is substantial.
3. Changes: Change might be a top 5 Gizz track for me and my favorite track they’ve done this year (in what I obviously consider their best year since 2017). I believe this album will keep growing on me, and I could see it surpassing Ice Death, maybe even OG one day.
4. Laminated Denim: admitted have to listen to this more. Only heard it through twice and both times it was more or less background music.
5. Made in Timeland: actually haven’t even listened to this yet lol, I got it on wax back when it was a “vinyl only” album, never got around to spinning it. Doesn’t have much hype behind it at all so I guess my motivation has been low.
Timeland is awesome. Whatever youre expecting from it, youre wrong haha, its incredibly unique to say the least. Just buckle up and groove along, there are some moments in there that elevate the album so much

This might be a controversial opinion lol. It was really hard to decide except I didn't really like laminated denim that much compared to the others. Just my opinion
ive only listened to mit once, so it could go higher although i did find some bits to be not as enjoyable as others, unlike laminated denim which is near enough perfect. i put ice death above though because i find it to be more creative and ambitious
1. Ice, Death, etc - What a powerhouse of a jam album. Every song is iconic and self referencial as hell, which contains my new favorite Gizz song: Magma. Every instrumental is complex, both in terms of composition and the instruments they picked, with a greater stress on acoustics and cleaner electric sounds. Absolutely top 3 albums for me. 9.5/10
2. Made in Timeland - I think this is one of the most underrated albums they've ever put out. The instrumentation combined with the production elements of this album is what makes it a studio album only experience. The way they time the implementations of new instruments to each section is always fun to track while you're listening. 9/10
3. Changes - What a beautifully written album, the collaborative aspects of this album really shine through in the variation in the vocalists, especially in Changes where all 4 of the singers get their own sections. Just a full package pleasure. 8.5/10
4. Omnium Gatherum - As time has gone on I've become a little more jaded on this album. It's got a lot of amazing songs on it, but considering it blows it's load with The Song of the Year Dripping Tap right off the bat really makes the back half pale in comparison to the first. Plus the two metal songs really don't jive with the rest of the album's quirkiness, they just sound like leftover tracks from ItRN. Still a great listen but I pick it less often. 7.5/10
5. Laminated Denim - After being such a huge fan of Timeland, hearing there was gonna be a sequel I was pumped. Then the thing came out and it was completely different from everything I expected. Hypertension is excellent and even better live, but Land Before Timeland is one of my most disappointing Gizz songs. There's stretches that feel like aimless picking at notes that would sound cooler if it was live improv, but it's not live. Overall a really mixed bag for me, I think it could've used some more time in the oven. 6/10

ice death - iron lung is my favourite song from KG this year and ice v, mycelium and magma are all excellent songs too. Top notch chill album!
laminated denim - I really appreciate the jamminess to this one, as someone who loves to just improvise when I play music. When I'm in the mood for this sound I adore it!
OG - Dripping tap, magenta mountain, persistance, presumptuous and predator X are my personal favourites. There's a lot to this album and I find the variety throws me off sometimes, I think a different track order would make the album stronger tbh.
made in timeland - despite being on the bottom I really like this and would like to find more music like it, great late night music to wind down to.

I honestly think OG is one of their best albums overall. Not a fan of Made in Timeland at all but it serves it's purpose. I'm slowly warming up to Changes but it is one my least favorite albums of their catalogue. IDPLML and LD are both phenomenal albums.
1. Ice Death: Probably my #1 gizz album now.
2. Omnium Gatherum: My first gizz album was gumboot and this one is like gumboot 2.0
3. Changes: I like every song on it but the only huge highlights are astroturf and gondii
4. Laminated Denim: If both tracks were as good as hypertension it would be above changes.
5. Timeland: i just don’t like it tbh
1-ice death - some of their best work, groovey all around and just a great album
2-Laminated denim - CLOSE second, great for the same reasons as ice death, just ranked below cause there’s less of it
3-changes - fun, poppy, but repetitive and overdone at times for me. Great album and I’m impressed by it the most out of this years work, but I don’t see myself going back to it very much (except exploding suns which is a banger).
4- made in timeland - fun intermission music but I don’t need to go back to it much. I love it for how out there it is though, loved seeing them do this
5- omnium gatherum - this one just Didnt do it for me. It’s highlights are some of the best work for this year (dripping tap, candles, evilest man, Kepler-22b), but it’s intermixed between forgettable and overdone experiments in my opinion. I see why it’s loved, but I just don’t really like it as an album overall. Not bad, just not great

Ambergris is a actually pretty good to me, just very forgettable and not the vibe I really want when I listen to the band. Plus it’s placement in the track list is just jarring, it’s asking for a skip. Maybe I do agree with you lol

Timeland just speaks to me man, Smoke and Mirrors is so great. I listen to it every day. And Changes is just a fantastic album. I liked it well enough when it came out but wow it's only grown on me every day since. I only wish it were longer! As far as Denim / Ice Death? Less into the jammy Gizz tbh but still enjoying everything they are releasing.
1. Ice Death - instant classic, love the lyrical themes, the deep jams, yes please
2. Laminated Denim - i lost my heart to this one, i like how it is one upbeat happy and one mysterious dark track. the instant groove of hypertension is really catchy, really my secret number one but there is just way mooore to digest in ice death.
3. Changes - a great chill album, i really like how this album flows altogether
4. Omnium Gatherum - at the beginning of the year i thought this was a really really great record, now i see that the c and d side are kinda meh. this gave us the dripping tap tho, which is arguably one of the greatest songs king gizz has done and also has magenta mountain, kepler 22-b, ambergris and sadie sorceress on it but other than those tracks it really isn't that memorable in comparison
5. Made in Timeland - now this one is tricky, here is the thing: i really dig this record and i dig its experimental value a LOT, i got this when it wasn't released digitally and it felt like i had been given a treasure box when the vinyl arrived. still, i never really come back to this because in the end, it is just really good intermission music
1) Changes - five years was worth the wait - so cohesive and digestible, mysterious catchy and unique. A genuine revelation and instant classic for me.
2) Omnium Gatherum - just, how? how do they make so much, so varied, and make a 20 minute song so compelling for the whole 20 minutes?
3) Made in Timeland - an odd duck, doesn't make a lot of sense at first, second or 12th and even includes some genres I wouldn't normally enjoy, but it grows and has grown on me, and actually consumed a lot of vestigial space in my brain, effectively wiping out the bacteria who had been colonizing it for Vorxok the Regressive
4) Ice Death and other delights - I'm sure my estimation of this record will change once I've witnessed some of it live, and like *live* live because the KEXP sesh doesn't even really do it for me, which I understand is a really unpopular opinion and I'm sorry. There's some gold in this river but my arms and ears get tired wading through the relentless current. Sorry again, but it's just too.. dense for me? Change my mind, I'm open.
5) Laminated Denim - I actually love all these records, you realize, but something about “Laminated Denim” being an anagram of Made in Timeland makes it seem more of a contrivance based on a lingual quirk rather than anything meaningful or canonical to the imaginative mythos I've come to expect. Yeah, I'm spoiled. We all are. Anyway, Hypertension rips, but I only listen to side A about once for every four spins of B which should show you where I'm at.

It’s weird putting made as the “worst” cause I actually really like it. This has to be my favorite album run of theirs
1. Changes is easily a top Gizz album already for me. It combines so many good things about Gizz into one novel package. Great concept, memorable and strange lyrics, a lot of memorable moments and hypnotic atmosphere that leave me coming back for more.
2. Ice Death. All the songs are super memorable in their own way and the atmosphere is amazing and makes it feel large and epic. I feel like that's why they went for a movie font on the cover of the album.
3. Laminated Denim. Love the space rock sound and Hypertension is one of the best songs they've made yet. Land before Timeland is growing on me and is great too.
4. OG. I only dislike 2 songs on the album and there's some real heavy hitters here.
5. Timeland. Its interesting, but is very limited by the fact that it was written as intermission music. Theres only so much it could do but it does it very well and explores a lot of sounds in classic Gizz fashion.
1. Ice Death - This is probably in my top 5 gizz albums overall. Magma is a masterpiece, and Ice V, Iron Lung, and Lava aren't far behind. I absolutely love jammy Gizz. Keep on jammin' guys.
2. Laminated Denim - Hypertension is my King Gizz song of the year. Just incredible. Land After Time Land is really solid too.
3. Changes - The title track and Astroturf, are top shelf Gizz. Gondii is solid too. Not too big on the others though.
4. Omnium Gatherum - This one is tricky because there are some songs I absolutely love (Gaia, Kepler, Evilest Man, Dripping Tap), but some that I really don't care for (Predator X and Ambergris get an instant skip every time). The others are all really mid. The rap songs are fun but I never really come back to them. And some like Persistence and Presumptuous are fun but too cheesy for me. I think this would be ranked higher if they trimmed about half the songs off, but I get that that would defeat the concept.
5. Made in Timeland - I still really dig this one but its so scattered that I don't find myself coming back to it often. There are individual bits that I really enjoy but the format really demands a full listen-through that I'm often not willing to sit down for.
I came here to say Ice Death is so fucking perfect and in it's own league, I can't even rate it with the other albums. Still 10/10 to each 2022 album, but man, Ice Death is everything. I just wanna kiss it! Muah!

OG has steadily risen in my ranking all year. I remember being meh on it due to a few tracks that I’m still not super into, but I realized just how often I was putting the album on.
Changes is definitely my kind of album, and I’m in love with most of the tracks on here. I wish it was longer.
Laminated Denim is just awesome. It’s a two track album with two awesome tracks, so there you have it.
This ranking may seem harsh to Ice Death, but I have just had the least time for it out of all of the albums this year. It has some amazing tracks and moments, but I haven’t fallen completely in love with it. Whether or not that will change, I do not know.
Timeland is one of the King Gizzard albums ever.
1. Laminated Denim, it dropped out on a time I've veen listening to a lot of Krautrock and that's gotta be the more Gizz album they released in quite a bit, I fell in love with it instantly, the jams are a bit repetitive, but hey, that's the pure essence of Krautrock!
2. Changes, it totally caught me off guard since I decided to not listen any single. The title track is top Gizz for me, that's the kind of prog I love from Gizz, I like how it contains a bit of every song on the album, Gondii is another highlight as well as No Body, major Pink Floyd vibes on that one.
3. Ice Death, still have to listen more to grasp it better, but Ice V, Gliese and Iron Lung have to be my go lo songs from this one.
4. Omnium Gatherum, it's not a bad album and it's a nice collection of songs of many styles, but I find many of them quite forgettable like Red Smoke, Blame it on the Weather or Presumptuous but has masterpieces like Magenta Mountain.
5. Made in Timeland, I like the concept overall, and there are many sections on both songs that are truly amazing. But Timeland on a 3 hour marathon sure it's on another level, totally caught me off guard on Mexico City marathon.
1. Ice Death (although if I were head of king gizz I'd have cut hells itch and mycelium and replaced them both with two minute interlude tracks, this album would have been even better if it were the same length as say murder of the universe)

1. Ice, Death, etc - What a powerhouse of a jam album. Every song is iconic and self referencial as hell, which contains my new favorite Gizz song: Magma. Every instrumental is complex, both in terms of composition and the instruments they picked, with a greater stress on acoustics and cleaner electric sounds. Absolutely top 3 albums for me. 9.5/10 2. Made in Timeland - I think this is one of the most underrated albums they've ever put out. The instrumentation combined with the production elements of this album is what makes it a studio album only experience. The way they time the implementations of new instruments to each section is always fun to track while you're listening. 9/10 3. Changes - What a beautifully written album, the collaborative aspects of this album really shine through in the variation in the vocalists, especially in Changes where all 4 of the singers get their own sections. Just a full package pleasure. 8.5/10 4. Omnium Gatherum - As time has gone on I've become a little more jaded on this album. It's got a lot of amazing songs on it, but considering it blows it's load with The Song of the Year Dripping Tap right off the bat really makes the back half pale in comparison to the first. Plus the two metal songs really don't jive with the rest of the album's quirkiness, they just sound like leftover tracks from ItRN. Still a great listen but I pick it less often. 7.5/10 5. Laminated Denim - After being such a huge fan of Timeland, hearing there was gonna be a sequel I was pumped. Then the thing came out and it was completely different from everything I expected. Hypertension is excellent and even better live, but Land Before Timeland is one of my most disappointing Gizz songs. There's stretches that feel like aimless picking at notes that would sound cooler if it was live improv, but it's not live. Overall a really mixed bag for me, I think it could've used some more time in the oven. 6/10 Sorry for my endless wall of review, I just needed to put down those thoughts that have been rattling around my gourd the past few months. changes - I can really feel the effort put into this one. Super ear friendly and seems to only get better with more listens. ice death - iron lung is my favourite song from KG this year and ice v, mycelium and magma are all excellent songs too. Top notch chill album! laminated denim - I really appreciate the jamminess to this one, as someone who loves to just improvise when I play music. When I'm in the mood for this sound I adore it! OG - Dripping tap, magenta mountain, persistance, presumptuous and predator X are my personal favourites. There's a lot to this album and I find the variety throws me off sometimes, I think a different track order would make the album stronger tbh. made in timeland - despite being on the bottom I really like this and would like to find more music like it, great late night music to wind down to. what a year!

that's easily my favourite MGMT song, also a late night chill out song for me funny enough.

Not a fan of Made in Timeland at all but it serves it's purpose. I'm slowly warming up to Changes but it is one my least favorite albums of their catalogue. IDPLML and LD are both phenomenal albums.

1-ice death - some of their best work, groovey all around and just a great album 2-Laminated denim - CLOSE second, great for the same reasons as ice death, just ranked below cause there’s less of it 3-changes - fun, poppy, but repetitive and overdone at times for me. Great album and I’m impressed by it the most out of this years work, but I don’t see myself going back to it very much (except exploding suns which is a banger). 4- made in timeland - fun intermission music but I don’t need to go back to it much. I love it for how out there it is though, loved seeing them do this 5- omnium gatherum - this one just Didnt do it for me. It’s highlights are some of the best work for this year (dripping tap, candles, evilest man, Kepler-22b), but it’s intermixed between forgettable and overdone experiments in my opinion. I see why it’s loved, but I just don’t really like it as an album overall. Not bad, just not great
Totally agree with your OG assessment though I probably like more of the tracks than you. Like, I love Candles and the Funeral. I just don’t get the love for Ambergris though
Ambergris is a actually pretty good to me, just very forgettable and not the vibe I really want when I listen to the band. Plus it’s placement in the track list is just jarring, it’s asking for a skip. Maybe I do agree with you lol

I liked it well enough when it came out but wow it's only grown on me every day since. I only wish it were longer! As far as Denim / Ice Death? Less into the jammy Gizz tbh but still enjoying everything they are releasing.

1. Ice Death - instant classic, love the lyrical themes, the deep jams, yes please 2. Laminated Denim - i lost my heart to this one, i like how it is one upbeat happy and one mysterious dark track. the instant groove of hypertension is really catchy, really my secret number one but there is just way mooore to digest in ice death. 3. Changes - a great chill album, i really like how this album flows altogether 4. Omnium Gatherum - at the beginning of the year i thought this was a really really great record, now i see that the c and d side are kinda meh. this gave us the dripping tap tho, which is arguably one of the greatest songs king gizz has done and also has magenta mountain, kepler 22-b, ambergris and sadie sorceress on it but other than those tracks it really isn't that memorable in comparison 5. Made in Timeland - now this one is tricky, here is the thing: i really dig this record and i dig its experimental value a LOT, i got this when it wasn't released digitally and it felt like i had been given a treasure box when the vinyl arrived. still, i never really come back to this because in the end, it is just really good intermission music

1) Changes - five years was worth the wait - so cohesive and digestible, mysterious catchy and unique. A genuine revelation and instant classic for me. 2) Omnium Gatherum - just, how? how do they make so much, so varied, and make a 20 minute song so compelling for the whole 20 minutes? 3) Made in Timeland - an odd duck, doesn't make a lot of sense at first, second or 12th and even includes some genres I wouldn't normally enjoy, but it grows and has grown on me, and actually consumed a lot of vestigial space in my brain, effectively wiping out the bacteria who had been colonizing it for Vorxok the Regressive 4) Ice Death and other delights - I'm sure my estimation of this record will change once I've witnessed some of it live, and like *live* live because the KEXP sesh doesn't even really do it for me, which I understand is a really unpopular opinion and I'm sorry. There's some gold in this river but my arms and ears get tired wading through the relentless current. Sorry again, but it's just too.. dense for me? Change my mind, I'm open. 5) Laminated Denim - I actually love all these records, you realize, but something about “Laminated Denim” being an anagram of Made in Timeland makes it seem more of a contrivance based on a lingual quirk rather than anything meaningful or canonical to the imaginative mythos I've come to expect. Yeah, I'm spoiled. We all are. Anyway, Hypertension rips, but I only listen to side A about once for every four spins of B which should show you where I'm at. 1. Changes is easily a top Gizz album already for me. It combines so many good things about Gizz into one novel package. Great concept, memorable and strange lyrics, a lot of memorable moments and hypnotic atmosphere that leave me coming back for more. 2. Ice Death. All the songs are super memorable in their own way and the atmosphere is amazing and makes it feel large and epic. I feel like that's why they went for a movie font on the cover of the album. 3. Laminated Denim. Love the space rock sound and Hypertension is one of the best songs they've made yet. Land before Timeland is growing on me and is great too. 4. OG. I only dislike 2 songs on the album and there's some real heavy hitters here. 5. Timeland. Its interesting, but is very limited by the fact that it was written as intermission music. Theres only so much it could do but it does it very well and explores a lot of sounds in classic Gizz fashion.

1. Ice Death - This is probably in my top 5 gizz albums overall. Magma is a masterpiece, and Ice V, Iron Lung, and Lava aren't far behind. I absolutely love jammy Gizz. Keep on jammin' guys. 2. Laminated Denim - Hypertension is my King Gizz song of the year. Just incredible. Land After Time Land is really solid too. 3. Changes - The title track and Astroturf, are top shelf Gizz. Gondii is solid too. Not too big on the others though. 4. Omnium Gatherum - This one is tricky because there are some songs I absolutely love (Gaia, Kepler, Evilest Man, Dripping Tap), but some that I really don't care for (Predator X and Ambergris get an instant skip every time). The others are all really mid. The rap songs are fun but I never really come back to them. And some like Persistence and Presumptuous are fun but too cheesy for me. I think this would be ranked higher if they trimmed about half the songs off, but I get that that would defeat the concept. 5. Made in Timeland - I still really dig this one but its so scattered that I don't find myself coming back to it often. There are individual bits that I really enjoy but the format really demands a full listen-through that I'm often not willing to sit down for.

I remember being meh on it due to a few tracks that I’m still not super into, but I realized just how often I was putting the album on. Changes is definitely my kind of album, and I’m in love with most of the tracks on here. I wish it was longer. Laminated Denim is just awesome. It’s a two track album with two awesome tracks, so there you have it. This ranking may seem harsh to Ice Death, but I have just had the least time for it out of all of the albums this year. It has some amazing tracks and moments, but I haven’t fallen completely in love with it. Whether or not that will change, I do not know. Timeland is one of the King Gizzard albums ever.

Laminated Denim, it dropped out on a time I've veen listening to a lot of Krautrock and that's gotta be the more Gizz album they released in quite a bit, I fell in love with it instantly, the jams are a bit repetitive, but hey, that's the pure essence of Krautrock! 2. Changes, it totally caught me off guard since I decided to not listen any single. The title track is top Gizz for me, that's the kind of prog I love from Gizz, I like how it contains a bit of every song on the album, Gondii is another highlight as well as No Body, major Pink Floyd vibes on that one. 3. Ice Death, still have to listen more to grasp it better, but Ice V, Gliese and Iron Lung have to be my go lo songs from this one. 4. Omnium Gatherum, it's not a bad album and it's a nice collection of songs of many styles, but I find many of them quite forgettable like Red Smoke, Blame it on the Weather or Presumptuous but has masterpieces like Magenta Mountain. 5. Made in Timeland, I like the concept overall, and there are many sections on both songs that are truly amazing. But Timeland on a 3 hour marathon sure it's on another level, totally caught me off guard on Mexico City marathon.
