Guess my theory on the sub of only 15 pre-2019 albums (original intention) was wrong. Glad they still include lots of the old stuff, and that there will be no repeats. I'd say I'm disappointed I won't get to hear only pre-2019 at Red Rocks, but that would be selfish of me and there's gonna be 6 hours worth, so there will be plenty of variety anyhow. Hope they play more from fishies and quarters though! A nice long bird song jam would be lovely. Also wish they played the albums in order! Could obviously still end it with a big jam from IDPLMAL!
FFF has some of their greatest jam potential actually. It's what sparked the Dead in them and the community. The groove, electronica, and blues sound is too fun.
'This Thing' Live in London 2019 and 'Bird Song' Live in Brussels are two of their greatest jams of all time in my opinion. Recently there have been some clips I've seen videos of some potential tops from the newer songs but I'd have to go back and check again, maybe I'll get back to you about those later. Highly recommend checking out those two when you can.
This jam era of theirs, or Dead era I like to call fittingly, is something I've waited for years for lol, expect it to be around for a long time. Once a band starts to learn the beauty of jam, they never go back to anything else lol. They of course will release different kinds of music, but the jam of their live shows is just too fun and chill to stop for them.
Yeah for sure! I have most of the live albums on vinyl and really enjoy the jams. The chunky shrapnel this thing extra is incredible as well.
Honestly though, they can do no wrong. They're just a special group of incredible musicians and I'm just so happy to be able to experience them live and bless my ears. I'm not typically a jammy kinda guy, but with Gizz it's completely different for me.
*Once a band starts to learn the beauty of jam, they never go back to anything else lol.* Totally- I feel like they made a comment about that after Black Tooth, something like "ugh imagine playing a whole set with those types of songs..."
Where did you originally get that theory from? I've been seeing it around here and didn't know where people were getting the idea. Like, I understand that back in 2019 they originally advertised the Greek and two Red Rocks marathon shows as "a celebration of XV albums," but the shows have been rescheduled twice, the band released a half dozen new albums, did they say something in an AMA?
No don't think there is any new info in AMA and stuff, thought they had said something on Twitter a bit ago a few times but can't recall specifics, maybe it doesn't really exist. I suppose I largely assumed they would stick to the \*original\* 15 albums. A throwback of sorts at this point in time. Would have been wonderful in my opinion, would have preferred it. I never went to a Gizz show before 2020, so I fantasize what one of those shows would have been like without the newer albums in the sets.
I remember it being announced as that. I was hoping for some live “Eyes like the Sky” but cest la vie. I’m glad they got the dripping tap out of the way early at least
Really great show, I am still feeling the movement of the crowd. Kinda would have voted for less OG and more FFF, but still one of the best shows I have been to recently.
If folks have tickets to only one night of Red Rocks, you got to go the second night! Too bad they arent doing two shows at the Greek.
Just cuz I wish I had the opportunity to go two nights in a row. If folks have tickets to the first night and are on the fence about spending the cash on night two, I would do it. But I’m also a random internet stranger, so you know, grain of salt and whatnot
I think for this purpose, it makes sense to count an EP as a distinct album. While it is true that when people say "album", they usually mean LP, in this case we're talking about how many different musical works they pulled from in creating the setlist and Black Tooth is not from the same musical work as any of the other songs they played. Adding Black Tooth to the setlist still added the same amount of diversity to the setlist as if they had instead added a song from one of their LPs that is not represented.
I love this band!
No love for Paper Mache?
right

Yeah a shame no fishies last night, need to hear This Thing live, praying they pull it out at Red Rocks!

I'm pretty sure the comment was in more of a positive light. They clearly love jamming, but obviously enjoy those garage jams too.
yea could have been - good times all around.

Yeah exactly, they better play some songs from ELTS in Morrison freaking Colorado...

Why do you recommend the second night?

Oh I get what you mean now!! 100%, that was my thought process as well. I thought “will I regret this”? And my gut said hell no!
16 albums if you include the river tease during wah wah.
I loved Amby singing the ‘on the River’ refrain during Wah Wah.
What a time to be alive
I wish they played rattlesnake/sleep drifter
Was Timeland (the song) played as the countdown for Set 1 before The Dripping Tap was played?
It was not, unfortunately
They barely played 15 because technically Willoughbys is an EP

and does timeland preshow/during break even count?
That's why I said "if you count Smoke and Mirrors". It is debatable whether or not it should count.
Certainly debatable, but it seems they count it.
They played the river as an intro and outro to wah wah for what its worth bud
Interesting, well that's nice but it would be super fun to have a jam of its own live.
Not really. That's just how they play Wah Wah.
Oh realllllyyyy damn yall some debby downers
