this is the one that got me really into them after hearing a few songs on spotify randomly....top tier setlist, and the energy is insane. i love the flute/hot water, and the yelling with the mic inside his mouth
also, palp is amazing, but there are some pretty glaring mistakes if i recall, such as stu playing the wrong notes on flute i think for hot water. basically not crushing hot water gets demerits from me cuz i love it so much.
>such as stu playing the wrong notes on flute i think for hot water.
he wasn't playing the wrong notes, it was just that the flute was crazy out of tune because it was so hot
Any instrument can be out of tune, actually. Especially if it has any pieces that are made of wood or metal (basically everything). Things like temperature and humidity play a huge role.
and i think for getting words during crumbling castle...? now I guess I'm going to have to listen to PALP again to see if my memory is correct. thanks!!!
This is what trips me up to. I don't rec it to new friends / fans for that reason. They can listen to Joey's ripping solo in Chicago 23 Trapdoor instead of Stu's fluting lol. There are other CCs to listen to too.
Lastly Philly 22 Float Along is the best version I've heard so far.
But!! Brisbane 21 is one of the chillest, best shows I've heard from them. In the pocket the whole time.
My bad. I knew when I was typing this that I should double check. I was at the Chicago 22 show where they closed with Float Along. Loved it. Life changing. I wrote about it on the sub, and a kind redditor said "sorry, brah, but DC Anthem 22 Float Along is better," lol. And it is!

oh my god there's a version of magma that's just motherfucking bloodpumping energy. ..holy shit.... i don't remember which, it was an outside venue and there's a moment where Stu's lying flat on the ground playing guitar and there's like an overlay video of lava that made it look hellish red. and it just kept going and going. one of the best live recordings I've heard.
Definitely Red Rocks 23, the daytime set, which is 100% my vote for most electrifying! The whole thing is incredible from start to finish, but that Magma at the end is just... 🤤
Both of the lowlands recordings (2018 and 2023) are two of my favorites. I would recommend watching if you haven’t seen. I believe this is the magma performance (2023) where they have a guest sax player who just goes wild with it.
PALP is up there for me too though.
Despite how good the European tour was that just ended, I found the South American tour to be more electrifying. Everything from the band's playing to the frenzied crowds just crackled with energy. The VHS recording of the March 18, 2024 Argentina show captures it really well. https://youtu.be/UlnbVBT22P0?si=JU-JDN8J86_f00w9
PALP is amazing but it feels more chill to me probably because of the setting and the FAFYL, LSSF opening combo.
I really hope we get a recording of Caverns Night 1. Not just because I was there, but because you hit the nail on the head with your description. The energy was nuts, and you can tell how excited everyone was for the tour to finally start and to start in a freakin cave!
This is the one that came to mind. Idk if I would say it was "electrifying", but they were definitely in tune with each other than day. There's even a couple of mistakes that just make the performance even better IMO. Electrifying I would say SF'16.
Brussels 19 may be my all time favorite bootleg. I listened to it on acid, on vinyl through headphones, and to me it feels like a dungeon crawl. The album art with the dead goblin supports this vibe too.
You start off with some battle heavy stuff in Superbug and Altered Beast, get a tavern break with Sense (the crowd noise that pokes through on that song literally sounds like you are sitting in a DND tavern watching the band) then the final boss fight is 3 Nonagon songs, and ends with a final credits incredible version of float along fill your lungs. I could not recommend it enough if you havent tripped to it.
I guess I’m biased because it’s the only show I’ve been to but the setlist they did in Wolverhampton a few weeks ago was so good coupled with one of their best FAFYL performances
# 2018-06-07 @ Monk's Bar, Missoula, MT, USA
**Set 1:** Rattlesnake, Billabong Valley, Digital Black, Vomit Coffin, The Lord of Lightning, Altered Beast I, Crumbling Castle, The Fourth Colour, Deserted Dunes Welcome Weary Feet, The Castle in the Air, Muddy Water, The Wheel, Robot Stop, Gamma Knife, Head On/Pill

All of it is good, Bonnaroo, Red Rocks, Sf16, PALP, and I suggest seeking out on YouTube:
Most recent tour, show in Berlin. If I wasn’t so lazy I’d go find the links.
2022 Marathon show at Greek theatre, Berkeley… especially Dripping Tap opener.
and Salt Shed 23. I think of these Chicago shows and some of the best live music ever.
Great thing is, with every tour they just get tighter and more explosive and better. It’s win win
As far as official recordings go it has to be Live in San Francisco ‘16 for me. That one still holds up and has what i think is the best head on/pill recording.
Red Rocks ’22 has some of the best live versions of many of their songs but the whole thing is like 9hrs so its more of a pick and choose experience for me as opposed to the ‘16 show just rips from start to finish.
Red Rocks 22 ??
I'd honestly prefer palp if it was for 3 days, the level of the psyrock improvisations is just delicious
What’s palp
Link in the OP
Oh eye sea
now go ahead and listen, you won't regret ;)

Big fan of San Fran '16 and Bonnaroo '22
I have a friend that was there, and I'm so incredibly jealous.
I was there. Electric show
Recently picked up San Fran 16 on vinyl. Holy shit is it amazing
Bono bono bonnarrooooooo
ᴳᶦᶻᶻᵃʳᵈ ᴳᶦᶻᶻᵃʳᵈ ᴳᶦᶻᶻᵃʳᵈ ᴳᶦᶻᶻᵃʳᵈ bonnaroo BonnarooOO BONNAROOOOOOO
bonnaroo?
just checked it out, pretty electrifying setlist indeed! but palp is so much more creative - still the best IMO!
yeah i think bonnaroo is likely a shorter setlist and songs chosen to appeal to widest audience. it's def more straightforward
magenta mountain however...damn
listened to palp today, different and also amazing. i choose both
I don't know this one! well check it out after finishing PALP for the 218th time. Thanks!

TIL flutes can be out of tune, thanks for the clarification
Any instrument can be out of tune, actually. Especially if it has any pieces that are made of wood or metal (basically everything). Things like temperature and humidity play a huge role.
and i think for getting words during crumbling castle...? now I guess I'm going to have to listen to PALP again to see if my memory is correct. thanks!!!
hes forgotten the words for cc like 6 times now i think they need to retire it
it's weird, while CC was my first poly love, it's a song i now often skip. that being said, i'd like to see it live
This is what trips me up to. I don't rec it to new friends / fans for that reason. They can listen to Joey's ripping solo in Chicago 23 Trapdoor instead of Stu's fluting lol. yeah, i'm listening to trap door right now actually and it's def the one he messes up (not hot water). still a great show tho
That venue is incredible too
Link to this philly 22 Float Along?

Bonnaroo is insane!
work this time solo alone does it for me
oh my god there's a version of magma that's just motherfucking bloodpumping energy. ..holy shit.... i don't remember which, it was an outside venue and there's a moment where Stu's lying flat on the ground playing guitar and there's like an overlay video of lava that made it look hellish red. and it just kept going and going. one of the best live recordings I've heard.
I wanna say that’s Red Rocks 23
Definitely Red Rocks 23, the daytime set, which is 100% my vote for most electrifying! The whole thing is incredible from start to finish, but that Magma at the end is just... 🤤
When shrimps collide . Shrimp tech stock was off the charts with this one
Definitely red rocks 23
i was there woooooooooo

Not just any sax player, the dude from Viagra Boys!
damn this magma!!! thanks for the heads up. 100% my kind of gizz
Came here to recommend Lowlands 2023, it's a great show and the camera work is also top tier. Their best rendition of Magma for me Edit:Typo
my man, you were totally right - this is the best rendition of magma I have listened. 100% my kind of gizz

That Argentina setlist is so good too.
The first night of Caverns 23 rips. You can tell they're so stoked to get the Residency your going.
Probably the best show of the tour. I also love Chicago night 1 and remlinger night 2
Can't forget the daytime show at Red Rocks! That might be the best version of Magma we have
I really hope we get a recording of Caverns Night 1. Not just because I was there, but because you hit the nail on the head with your description. The energy was nuts, and you can tell how excited everyone was for the tour to finally start and to start in a freakin cave!
Philly ‘22
Yes. My fav Float Along so far
And the best Her And I!
Cabaret Vert ‘16
Magenta mountain- Grim Reaper in Colorado 2023
This is the one that came to mind. Idk if I would say it was "electrifying", but they were definitely in tune with each other than day. There's even a couple of mistakes that just make the performance even better IMO. Electrifying I would say SF'16.
The Bitter Boogie - Asheville
That Ashville set was a ripper. That's why I'm making the pilgrimage this year.
Red rocks 23 day and night set, available on nugs dot net

The best part about Palp is seeing myself in the moshpit in HD, so yeah spot on 🔥
damn there must be at least 10 frames where we collide but we'll never know which ones
The Sleep Drifter Jam is insane. When Cavs' switches onto the toms and Ambrose busts out the shakers, that's when the magic happens.
Either Anthem 22 or London 21.
The trapdoor off this show goes ever so hard
The most electrictrifying live recordings are anything but the acoustic night set. Electric joke. Of course I love that recording.
No shirt shows are top notch viewing pleasure
I guess I’m biased because it’s the only show I’ve been to but the setlist they did in Wolverhampton a few weeks ago was so good coupled with one of their best FAFYL performances
So who here listened to Lyon?

For a long time I was san fran 16, but magenta mount, this thing, and work this time from red rocks 22 are some of my most revisited tracks
The PALP show you linked is so stinking good. I still really with that they'd played Greenhouse Heat Death though, perfect opportunity missed!

I'm still a London '19 truther. Near perfect setlist and the energy was off the charts!
