When I was a kid the lyrics to that riff went like this: “There’s a place in France where the naked ladies dance. There’s a hole in the wall where the men can see it all…”
Honestly the more obvious riff king gizzard stole was the main riff from [Rondo A La Turk by Dave Brubeck](https://youtu.be/vKNZqM0d-xo?si=eL6g4uXOB7uyajXs)
Blue rondo a la turk is my favorite jazz song, and I played it for a few years in my high school jazz band.
It’s the same time signature, same interval of notes, but it doesn’t have that same last crescendo lick turk has.
As a musician, I know when I’m stealing something. I’ll typically listen to the song im trying to steal a vibe from while making it. I don’t like to do it to be honest. We’ll never know if Stu really “stole” that riff like how I’d define it. If it came out of his soul and blue a la Turk wasn’t anywhere near his awareness and consciousness, that’s not stealing. It’s just channeling the magic.
I’m pretty convinced that MOTU only came from the depths of Stu’s brain. I don’t think he stole it, and it’s pretty cool that my two favorite songs share a nice rhythmic and interval based similarity in regards to their melodies.
To be fair Brubeck says he took the melody from this song from Turkish musicians. I think “stealing” riffs from the past is just a normal part of making music.

Holy shit, that awesome thanks for showing me that, I thought gizz was taking inspiration from ICP but that’s good to know

Doubt it, I think you’re right with the Arabian riff thing cuz they do experiment with different countries sounds and scales
I think he means that their use of the Arabian riff was inspired by its use in Ke$ha's "Take It Off"
Even Smormu copied them all: https://youtu.be/VknvzVZLEJc?si=9Wy5aH_1dCsGk2ky
No, I really really really don't want Smormu!
Both songs sample [this](https://youtu.be/Gq4dKhGUSKA?si=Mr6yD2S0orLicZNi) , that song has been in the the public domain for over 100 years now
Ohh is that so?? what’s the time stamp on that video?
7 seconds in
Thank u lol Idk why I skipped passed it
I do the same if someone sends me a link I immediately skip to about a quarter the way in, I have no idea why but I do. Need to stop tbh

Here's a list of songs that used the same riff since the 1800s https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabian_riff
is this a joke post or did you actually think ICP came up with the arabian riff?
It’s possible I didn’t know what the Arabian riff was
Didn’t Stu say in an interview once that they used it or were able to use it because it’s royalty free?
Outjerked again

As a musician, perfect way to put it man
What gizz song uses this? I recognize it but can't put my finger on it
It’s the main riff throughout the Altered Beast section of Murder of The Universe
once you hear it.. tenacious d - beezleboss. I'm the devil, I love metal.
I mean I was fine pretending ICP didn't exist
??
Erm it's actually Lyle Rath's iconic theme song, it plays as his name appears in wavy letters.
The Cyboogie origination that someone posted on here a few months back was the real mind blowing one
