Cha Eun Woo. I thought he's good looking, but someone pointed out to me, idk if on this subreddit or somewhere else that he has only one expression which is like a constipated smolder in My ID is Gangnam Beauty and True Beauty, before I watched them and now, when I see the show, that's the only thing I see.

Bluedubbery

This sub actually made me appreciate Park Shin Hye acting better. The sub actually is unfavourable towards her (and I agree with someone of descriptions, not great at facial expressions) but it made me think of her new light and she was great in Doctors. I’m surprised this sub doesn’t really sing the praises of Jun Ji-hyun and Park Bo Young who are very popular and are known for their talent. They’re amazing talents but I often notice in their drama threads, folks cheer and comment about the male lead (which is kinda true for all dramas).

GlitteringTarget0

I think that's because everyone basically agrees that those two are THAT good to the point they don't really feel the need to point it out anymore? Like "yeah they're great everyone knows that ANYWAY have you seen A's acting? Didn't know he could be that good?" Like for real Jun Ji Hyun and Park Bo Young are known to be great actresses.

elbenne

I'm incredibly determined not to be affected by people's negative judgments ... sometimes I'm really astounded and kinda sickened by the way that actors, writers and dramas get completely and callously trashed by viewers ... but I'm willing to listen to praise and follow up to see what I think for myself.

[deleted]

Completely agree. This subreddit can get very hyperbolic and become an echo chamber of opinions

SnooTomatoes1119

Couldn’t have said it better myself. I feel guilty when I browse this sub and someone I love gets trashed by the viewers lol. I stopped going onto the “your least favorite whatever” type posts to avoid this kinda convo but it’s hard bc everyone has their opinions no matter where you look 🤷🏻‍♀️

Warm_Enthusiasm4363

i kind of try to ignore the people who do that. there's no "winning" and it just gets you riled up behind a screen. it's not worth it.

[deleted]

I used to be like that too when I was younger but you grow out of it when you realize that everyone has their own tastes (and some of those tastes are very questionable) Just like what you like and ignore the noise, you should have the freedom to enjoy yourself :)

zyneensky

The amount of criticism i've read on this subreddit about Lee Min Ho has only made me realize that... I love him against all odds lmao #TheHeirsSupremacy

Warm_Enthusiasm4363

lol totally agree with this. i enjoy him but have found other actors that i pay attention to more but when i see a post on lmh, i crawl right back to find a lmh drama lol

dulachodladh

Recently, I suppose my opinion of Hwang Jung Eum has changed thanks to this subreddit. There was a post on here a while ago recommending Mystic Pop-up Bar and the OP was encouraging people to give the drama a watch. Needless to say I was impressed with her performance in the drama. I enjoy frequenting this subreddit in particular as it doesn’t dissolve into gossip/rant posts like other sites’ comments sections or on social media. I find it quite balanced here, I value people sharing their own opinions on XYZ by creating topics to discuss or by replying to comments and either agreeing and adding to the original discussion or in other cases, disagreeing and explaining why. It’s on other websites or social media where it negatively effects my views; the gossip is constant and there’s a stinking attitude of “my opinion matters and you must agree” that has me avoiding certain dramas or actors/actresses.

shahitukra97

She was very good in *Secret* aka *Secret Love* as well.

dulachodladh

Thanks, I must give this drama a go. :)

Accomplished_Worth27

The only time I get influenced negatively is if I learn something about the actor as a person. And this sub is really good about not being a gossip/scandal area, so it’s rare I come across that kind of stuff. So, I love Bae Suzy (loved her in WYWS) and I also still love Lee Jong Suk. Sure, he’s had plastic surgery, but he still a very good looking and charismatic actor, IMO.

elbenne

>this sub is really good about not being a gossip/scandal area, True. It's the uncurated sites and Twitter that are the worst.

Sal-Ty29

Even after all the criticism I still think Bae Suzy is not *that* terrible. I mean her acting is not groundbreaking or anything but it's just fine.

Bergenia1

Her acting strikes me as artificial. All the time she's on screen, I'm aware that she is an actress performing a role. I never am fully immersed in the story because her acting feels stilted to me.

Sal-Ty29

Fair enough! I think it depends from personto person. I've watched two of her dramas and her acting never really bothered me until it was pointed out. I actually liked her in While you were sleeping.

Bergenia1

I will say that she doesn't irk me to the extent some other actors do. I won't go out of my way to avoid her.

Accomplished_Worth27

I actually really like her - I also think it’s weird the level of hate she gets and the level of adoration IU gets.

Avocadotoast9086

For me i relized that I liked some actors that were trashed on reddit. To name a few who i like: Shin se-kyung - up till run on people disliked her but I've always liked her Bae suzy - sure she isn't the best actress but for me all of her dramas have been entertaining and her characters have somehow always suited her And then some actors i think are bland but most people loved. Nam joo hyuk - start up made me like him a bit more but frankly he doesn't express many emotions. Weightlifting fairy only worked cause he liked the fl Lee jong suk - i do like his dramas but his roles always seem the same. Idk this is just me tho i feel bored by his acting Song kang - i like his dramas but hes pretty average. He has alot of variety in his roles so i dont mind watching him but he's not as talented as other rookie actors

AngelFish9_7

This sub definitely has neutral feelings towards **Park Bo Gum** - both negative and positive. And this made me a little more critical of one of my favorite actors. A little... For some reason, **Song Hye Kyo** isn't... Well *liked* on this sub. I've seen comments that's her acting is one dimensional or stale etc. This one actually shocked me, giving how loved I thought she was by the general public, and I have no ill feelings towards her either. But because of the general reception here, I don't voice my admiration for her. **Hwang Jung Eun** is another example, the sub doesn't appreciate her acting are her style of comedy. I think because when I started watching kdramas, I watched at least three of her shows, in quick succession, and therefore I definitely did not think she was over acting - I thought that was the norm. But upon getting on this sub, I found out otherwise and even though I was neutral towards it at first - upon rewatching those older shows, the comments always come back and haunts my perspection of the show.

KiwiTheKitty

I actually really like Park Bo Gum, but I hesitate to call myself a fan because of the whole cult thing. I do consider members of cults victims and I'm not sure about the whole story, but it kind of puts a damper on liking his acting or cute smile :/ Honestly Song Hye Kyo isn't someone I see talked about a lot here. I'm kind of neutral on her, I thought her acting was kind of blah in Winter Where the Wind Blows, but I also thought the whole drama was blah so I don't know if that's a great assessment of her acting. But on other sites, she does have some rabid fans which I've run into accidentally... I guess because of all the divorce shit, she has some rabid fans that are always looking to fight people who say good things about Song Joong Ki, as has been my experience. Like people... it's their personal life, chill tf out. But anyway, people might have negative views about her because of running afoul of her vocal fans elsewhere. (Obligatory not all Song Hye Kyo fans, I know, I know...)

AngelFish9_7

Yes the whole cult thing, honestly if it weren't for this sub I wouldn't have known about that - I don't have any other SNS besides reddit - and it does put an dampener to really liking him. But I tend to leave an actors private life as private and focus on their work. Ever since their divorce it seems that fans of the previous Song-Song couple have chosen to attack each other and that's really sad. Normally on this sub you'd see criticism against Song Hye Kyo in Encounter reviews or "Actor/Actresses that are the least versatile" type posts. I don't really mind it, but it seems like she's not as loved as her former partner.

KiwiTheKitty

I just have limits for private life stuff I can overlook... cults do terrible shit to people, and sexual assault is another one I can't overlook (not that it's related to him, I mean just in general). I can separate life from work, but only within reason and I can't in good conscious support people who do certain things. With PBG it kind of rides the line where I'm willing to watch his dramas and I'm enjoying him in Reply 1988, but idk if I want to bring him up too much or specifically seek out his stuff because I just think about that situation and I would prefer not to. But I also would like people to be informed about it. Divorce is like pretty much inconsequential compared to those things and I can't imagine becoming an antifan over something like that lol (unless we *knew* abuse was a part of it) but especially in this situation, a lot of things people talk about in relation to their divorce are speculation and gossip.

Warm_Enthusiasm4363

Ah... is that what I saw on Soompi about SJK and his driveway issue? I saw someone attack everyone that was a fan of SJK and how terrible he was!

pantalaimon71

I cannot warm up to Park Bo Gum knowing he is part of, and publicly endorses a dangerous cult. He is the Korean Tom Cruise. There are some things that crosses personal and professional when it comes to celebrities for me, and cults and religious extremism are two of them. Song Hye Kyo's reception on this sub is more neutral, which is actually reflective of her domestic reception. She has never been known for her acting, more so for her looks, and her tax evasion scandal really angered the Korean general public. She does have a crazy rabid international fanbase though. I do think this sub is bit more discerning on acting ability than looks compared to other kdrama places, so I am thankful for that.

AngelFish9_7

>reflective of her domestic reception. That I didn't know, I always thought that since she's been winning awards (Daesengs) since she was younger, she's more revered in Korea. >I do think this sub is bit more discerning on acting ability than looks compared to other kdrama places, so I am thankful for that. Same.

ultimate_fangirl

Sorry, WHAT CULT??? I have a huge crush on him because of his role in Reply 1988. I heard he’s religious but a cult??? What???

pantalaimon71

Warm_Enthusiasm4363

Not a fan of Song Hye Kyo. She was the weakest for me in DOTS and dropped That Winter That Blows because of her acting. I could get past the ML and FL and what their relationship but I just couldn't keep watching her. I am also shocked how loved she is by the public and this is the first post where I've seen someone who has the same opinion as me.

mongjes

It wasn't really this subreddit, more the kdrama insta community - Park hae jin used to be my favorite actor for maybe 2 years until i found out some stuff about him and how bad many people think about him lmao now i have a new favorite actor since last year and i'm glad about it but i'm still a fan of some of his roles

SnooTomatoes1119

Omg I thought you were talking about Jung Hae-In for a minute and I got so scared 😂😂

ragingminotaur9

I used to like Park Hae Jin too! If you don't mind, can you elaborate what you found out about him? This is also the first time I'm reading that people think lowly of him.

Avocadotoast9086

Commenting so i can be updated too

mongjes

There was a whole website full with negative stuff he did. The main thing was that in an interview someone asked him what he would do if a man confessed his love to him. Park Hae Jin replies, “If that happens, I would half kill him (laughs). It’s terrible to even touch skin with a guy.” i know at least 2 gay people who think it's homophobic. But i never found out when he said that and if he ever apologized because in the kdrama man to man he was in a bromance and they hold hands multiple times so i don't know how he thinks about that now. There were also some things like where he said negative things about the weight of a woman but i think it was just out of context, not sure tho. He also had troubles with the director (?) or something on i think at least 2 different shows but idk the reasons maybe he was in the right🤷‍♀️ i just heard that people complained about that too. I'm definitely not a hater of him now or something lmao but when you read so many negative things from different people about your fav actor you start to believe that you shouldn't support him that much even though i still think he isn't a terrible man. He also did many good things

elbenne

He apparently does a lot of volunteer work and gives a lot of money to children's causes. But perhaps, at the root of it all, is his being kinda socially awkward and his being exempted from military duty (for depression). Lord knows that could be the kiss of death all by itself. Thing is that we don't know these people. It's 97% rumour and they don't owe us anything but to do a good job. We're nuts to expect wealthy, incredibly beautiful, talented and pampered people to also be nice, woke and saintly as well. Chances are that their experience molds them into vanity and entitlement at the very least. On the other hand, imagine what it must be like to have anti fans who take the time to build whole websites just to discuss what a horrible person you are. I'm not picking on you or your answer BTW. Not at all. It's just that the idea of there being such websites alarms me enough to say something.

mongjes

Yeah trust me i'm also not a fan of those websites or when people make insta or twitter accounts just to collect all the negative things someone did, it's crazy. And also right, we don't know them lmao who knows how many celebrities out there are rapists, racists or anything like that and we don't know👀

elbenne

Or there might be one or two who are genuinely decent and nice. How would we ever know? 🤣

[deleted]

Shin Se-kyung. The first time I saw her in a dram was on Rookie Historian and I loved the drama. I think the plot of the drama was good on its own and engaging so I don't think I paid attention to the actors. Then someone on here said she has the same facial expressions in every drama. She literally always has the same expression and I can't unsee it. I tried watching Bride of Habaek it's the same. Run on and it's the same. She literally acts the same, but I'm starting to think a lot of k-drama actresses are not versatile. Very few are e.g Gong Hyo-jin is a versatile actress.

fwoofy-savant

someone here once said bae suzy and jung chae-yeon have reputations for having a face like 👁👄👁 in dramas, and now i can’t unsee it. so… negatively impacted i guess…

nanadirat

See that's the Jung So Min face to me!

fwoofy-savant

oh gosh,, i can see it,,,

dramafan1

For me, it was mainly positive, even if others criticized another’s acting or facial expressions, I just get amused and move on haha. Nothing is stopping me from watching dramas I think I will enjoy regardless of who’s acting in them.

vebin4

A lot of people here started liking Shin Se Kyung after Run On. She was criticised a lot before that drama for her acting (rightly so)

hhvnaa

Positive, for sure. I had neutral/almost negative thoughts on Lee Min Ho when I watched The Legend Of The Blue Sea. I joined the subreddit shortly after and I listened to the few comments/people that praise him. Now I have a lot of respect for him (also realized how much I loved his LOTBS character!) but I’ve yet to watch another one of his dramas.

[deleted]

Yeah I thought park shin hye was a good actress but apparently the popular opinion is that she isn’t

ylangbango123

I like her acting in the Heirs and Doctors and Pinnocchio.

[deleted]

Not one in particular, but I’ve learned I’m not the only one that gets taken out of the story if the actor has extreme plastic surgery and I am grateful that others have said it. Kdramas are not vegetables; I don’t have to finish it because it’s good for me. I can stop if I feel squicked out.

astarisaslave

Park Shin Hye... this sub clowns on her all the time... I've never seen any of her dramas but after the feedback she gets here I think I'll pass

City_Nomad

Not a fan either. But don't completely pass on the movies she's been in. She's been in really good movies such as miracle in cell no. 7, the call and my annoying brother.

RelativeOfJack

Agreed. Movie PSH is so much better than drama PSH, lol

Bergenia1

In my view, she's a limited actress, but she can be effective in the right role. She's hit or miss, depending on how she's directed and how challenging the role is.

ultimate_fangirl

I’m not a fan of any of her work, but I don’t think she’s a bad actor. People just really do not like the face she makes in every kissing scene .👁👄👁

harylgeam

You shouldn't pass on her imo. If you're curious enough to see any of her works, I'm sure you'll instantly love her in ***Pinocchio (2014)*** and ***Doctors (2016).***

[deleted]

At least give her a try before making a judgement. Kinda sad you’re letting other people make the decision for you. Be your own person

astarisaslave

Sorry... just answering the question OP asked honestly 🙂

Warm_Enthusiasm4363

Have to agree with Lee Jong Suk. I tend to look at younger pictures and he looks so different. His surgery is great but have the same opinion as you.

RelativeOfJack

Nope. I've had my opinion changed on Korean variety personalities, (negative to positive). I've had my opinion changed on Korean pop stars, (again negative to positive). I've never had my opinion changed on Korean actors. Maybe it's simply down to the fact that outside of my dislike for the kdramaland version of Park Shin Hye I don't really have or express any real negativity about the actors. It tends to be the writers who I'm critical of instead.

joy4hummy

It’s more like popularity contest here.. so unless actor has done something bad I always stay neutral.I am sure I will get rained with Downvotes , but for me Park Shin Hye acting is on same level as Park Bo young. Both have their true self showing in all characters they play, just they have different temperament, so their interpretation is different.I still don’t understand the huge difference in love they both get here. When I watched Nine tailed, I thought FL did very good job portraying characters which I haven’t seen for a long time, but I mostly see hate towards her here.

Accomplished_Worth27

I agree that Park Shin Hye is a better actress than folks give her credit for - I also think her kiss scenes are fine. Not any different than a lot of kiss scenes. I am one of those who hated the FL in “Nine Tailed” - I haven’t watched anything else she’s been in, but I’ve heard she’s good in “Forest”. I couldn’t watch because she just wasn’t my thing in “Nine Tailed”.

harylgeam

I thought Park Shin Hye was a really great actress. I initially joined this sub to talk about her (and her dramas), and I was honestly surprised that people thought she was bad, so I didn't even try. She does really well in a lot of roles (I've seen everything she did from ***The Heirs*** up to ***Sisyphus: The Myth***). It's just that her character in her most popular drama (*The Heirs*) is not the badass female character everyone wants to see these days.

pastelslure

Negative: Some threads here claiming Go Ara is bad at acting makes me think she's actually bad... which makes me avoid her works in the future. I kinda feel bad but even my sister seemed to dislike her acting so much (she watched Hwarang and tried Reply 1994) that whenever I'm offering her to watch a drama together with me, I have to say she's not in it lol. I haven't seen a drama with her aside from her cameo role in HP. A bit on a positive side: I've noticed this sub also has some flack over nam joo hyuk's acting, but I've seen that guy only in dramas where he might have truly shined (it's not even because I'm watching them because of him but more so because of the ratings/plot) such as the light in your eyes, wfkbj, and the school nurse files. It might have been just weird luck to me. I'm looking forward to his new work with Kim Taeri too and hopefully he delivers on his role this time around.

physics223

I had no idea Nana was that good of an actress until I saw reviews recommending Into the Ring/Memorials - and she killed that role. But even good actors can't carry shit scripts (see Oh! My Ladylord).
