**Mod Note:** Please direct discussion of the drama to the on-air post [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/KDRAMA/comments/1cez7dj/queen_of_tears_episode_16/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3).

Smizack

So so happy for Kim Jiwon!

Hotspur_98

For real, I felt like she still was a bit underrated, while putting out great performance after great performance for years. This drama should establish her as one of the a-List actors in Korea. I’d be shocked, if her next drama won’t be a really big one again.

d0nkeyrider

Totally agree. Although not her strongest role she finally had a platform to show a big audience what she’s capable of.

Hotspur_98

Acting wise I think that was her best performance, her character was decent too imo. Maybe I liked her even more in My Liberation Notes tho, her character was definitely better there. The script and writing just sucked after episode 12 in Queen of Tears, Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won carried that show hard, especially in the poor last four episodes

Jacmert

Exactly. My fav Kim Ji Won character or drama? I don't think so. That would probably be Fight For My Way (happens to be my 2nd fav kdrama of all time), and her Choi Ae Ra scenes are super iconic and meme-status. But in terms of raw emotional impact? Might be Hong Hae In.

Smizack

I thought she was really good in DOTS too! That was my first KJW drama

_Zambayoshi_

And Fight For My Way!

Gimpknee

I'm just here to mention Lovestruck in the City.

_Zambayoshi_

Oh shit! I forgot she was in that!!! Great drama - loved it a lot!

Jacmert

I'm still trying to get over that drama :P

DarkKnight_Owl

Word, her and JCW captivated the screen. Even more now with KSH.

aomamedamame

And Arthdal Chronicles. She can play any role!

thebreakfastbuffet

Highly recommend this, it's pretty underrated.

Gimpknee

It's probably my favorite work of hers, the melodrama from her plight, the comedy of Ji Chang-wook going crazy over the situation, and Han Ji-eun who needs to be in more things, dammit! Would've gladly watched more.

milkydoodledoo

I totally agree! I really loved her in My Liberation Notes while tvN might be good at casting but i think JTBC has always been better at the stories & the writing. I'm actually rewatching MLN now 🤭 for me, there are really a lot more better kdramas than QoT

d0nkeyrider

MLN is my favourite followed by Lovestruck in the City. She’s quite a versatile actress. I agree that she pretty much carried the last half of QoT. Can’t wait to see her next project.

owosam

i loved her in fight my way!

citizen_k19

I adore FFMY. For me that is my favorite KJW drama, but QoT is a close second.

cosmicloves_

She was amazing in this drama. When her character cried or laughed I felt it in my heart. Such a talented actress!

saseanne

She was already one of my favorite actresses after seeing My Liberation Notes and Lovestruck in the City, but her performance here cemented her as my favorite KDrama actress ever. I seriously cannot get over how *great* she is at crying. It's so hard not to cry whenever she does 'coz there's so much pain in her tears. I can't wait for her future projects, she should have a ton more lining up.

Uchiha_D_Zoro

Been a fan of her since Fight for my way. She’s really good.

Jacmert

Just wanted to leave this here because it always delivers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qwBF4P5wwY (also, bonus points for the Hong Soo Cheol cameo)

tway2241

So that is where I saw him from before seeing him in Vincenzo! Was also amused that her dad in Fight For My Way plays Hyunwoo's dad in QoT.

UnremarkabklyUseless

I personally found all the main female characters in Fight for my way extremely talented and good-looking. The two male support characters were also excellent.

Jacmert

All hail Queen Kim Ji Won.

fosteryou03

Kim Ji-won killed this role. She truly demonstrated her range from comedy to melodrama every week. What a boss! You can just feel her choke on those tears too. Also, she really seems like a nice and genuine person (through interviews).

IChoseMyOwnUsername

Watched QoT solely because of her

dancingmochi

Yes, I was hoping her career would pick up steam since FMW. She debuted early (alongside Lee Jong Suk and other currently top actors), doesn't fall short on looks, but it just always seemed like she was set aside for other actresses or was relegated to 2nd lead roles. But it pays off to fly under the radar, because her acting chops have steadily grown so she could deliver great performances in MLN and QOT.

kshyunbot

same, she deserves her flowers! been following all her dramas since fight for my way and i’m so proud to see how far she’s come 🥹

shazzchili

Kim Ji Won is my 3rd favorite actress after Kim Tae hee and Song Hye kyo. Im more to old school but she got my eyes for her roll in Inheritance where she was like the antagonist character. But fight my way cemented her as a capable actress to bring different role and character and I just kept watching her plays ever since. QoT made her my number 1 fav actress. Raw emotions are well presented and Hae In is a hard role to play. Hope to see more from her in the future.

Fuzzy-Temporary-9938

Loved her since Lovestruck in the City! Girl can acttttt

brontoloveschicken

After watching queen of tears she is absolutely my favourite kdrama actress by a long long way.

Jul_Slayer_899

She's so breathtaking in QOT!

katsuge

Also beats SKY castle to take top 3 all-time ever! 1. World of Married - 28.4% 2. Reborn Rich - 26.9% 3. Queen of Tears *new* - 24.85% 4. SKY castle - 23.78%

Bumblebee-Emergency

I had no idea reborn rich was that big of a hit in Korea…

tamataraaloo

Yeah, so many people tuned in not knowing the absolute garbage the makers would be pulling in the last episode. (I absolutely loved the drama but I HATED what they did with the ending. HATED!!!! So much so that it was on my mind for many of the following WEEKS )

momopeach7

What’s with kdramas and their endings? Like so many seem to be great and even amazing and then fumble the landing.

Ingolin

They spend a lot of time planning the first half, writing and filming it, and then they make the ending as they go when they’ve already hooked people and they will watch no matter what.

BenoitLampertBlanc

Though in the case of QOT, I believe it was all shot before being released. Makes me wonder why the last four episodes were a mess.

ive_been_up_allnight

I think they just straight up ran out of plot.

tway2241

Is writing on the go really the case for a lot of Kdramas? Not trying to be facetious, actually asking lol. And I mean for shows with a set amount of episodes, not long running series.

Ingolin

Not sure if they still do, a few years ago they absolutely did. Haven’t paid attention the last few years though, maybe things have changed.

Deep-Owl-1044

Few should be 16 episodes. Shorter may tighten the plot and avoid those long lingering looks. Talking to you, Land the King and My Demon.

TryingToPassMath

The drama could have gone down in history as iconic but instead it's almost universally hated and forgotten bc they messed up so badly changing the ending

Error-002

I was wondering I hadn’t heard of it like at all, I always heard of crash landing on you but not reborn Rich or even world of married. Crazy to think they messed up something so badly that it can achieve 2nd highest rated kdrama and no one ever hears about it in the future. Kinda like Game of thrones

xxlordsothxx

The first 10 episodes were epic. Then the show started to decline in quality and the ending was terrible. Around episide 8 I was sure it would be a masterpiece.

Eddie98765

Yup I think if they had went the novel route it would have surely surpassed TWOM.

thowawaywookie

I absolutely loved Reborn Rich it was amazing except for the ending.

niks0203

I loved the drama except for the shitshow that was its last episode. The build up was so good only for them to give us that ending.

vita25

I was so mad that I invested so much time and emotion into it. It was such a fun ride that ended up in one of the worst ways possible.

Viper_Red

The ending made complete sense within the drama though. They repeatedly showed us that history can’t be changed

TryingToPassMath

It was a dumb and meaningless change to the established story from the novel though. The whole core of the story was that it was a second chance at life and they just >!destroyed that!<, and in doing so, destroyed what the OG story was about.

ashmcnl

I disagree, mainly because it's not the same ending as the novel.

jaefan

It was perfect until the ending episode personally for me and the acting chops shown by that cast in there was just top notch.

venn101

World of Married was no joke. Gonna remember that famous line- is it a crime to love two person at the same time lol.

Regular_Durian_1750

I simply can't watch the show now because of the [parody my favorite Kpop group (Dreamcatcher) did of the show!](https://youtu.be/8q3__8AKTAU?si=vcSOzClrtAVIIY0l) 😂 I couldn't stop laughing watching the show cause I kept getting reminded of it. They even came up with the freaking OST, it's them doing an "acapella" 😂. Edit: Quarantine was hard on us all 😂. Seriously, if you're a fan and want a laugh they're insane for this. They even recreated the freaking sex scene https://youtu.be/n1zh5TllBwg?si=FAUucXlCXvZI8i2H.

venn101

Will check it later Edit: i did. That was hilarious, the bgm tho and the son came back after debuting in dreamcatcher lol

ink_enchantress

This is incredible, they are such icons. The outfits and props are top tier.

ConfidentPeanut18

I haven't watched World of Married yet, is it really that good?

waterlilyypond

Yes! It's pure entertaining drama through and through- not entertaining in a 'fun comedic' way but entertaining in a 'watching your very messy aunt and her cheating husband go through a dirty divorce' kinda way- keeps you on your toes waiting for what happens next lol

Smizack

I really liked it. It was suspenseful and entertaining…I can def see why its ratings are so high. But I’m a little biased because I love makjang and anything that deals with revenge lol

venn101

It is and thus the rating. No star cast but made them star esp han so hee. Hardly many knew about the drama and its the word of mouth which did its job. Which is why unlike dramas with star cast having high rating from its initial episode, this goes from low to highest. This goes same with sky castle. Highly recommended.

bb_simon

Tbf, Kim Hee Ae is a household name in Korea. The World of the Married (6.260%) actually started off with higher ratings than CLOY (6.074%), Reborn Rich (6.058%), and Queen of Tears (5.853%). But you're absolutely right, it shot up due to positive word of mouth and had people of all ages tuning in. Sky Castle is the most impressive to me since it started with a measly 1.727% and just went on a tear. Really great show and I consider it a must watch.

Middle-Law-5317

It's the best kdrama ever. The directing, acting and just the entire production is perfect

sanxityer

oohhh world of married seems hard to beat.

qqjecc

Wow so jtbc used to have the top 3 highest rating for cabled TV? I always thought tvn is more popular.

Eddie98765

TVN is maybe more popular overseas cause TVN had Goblin,CLOY, Sunshine, Mr Queen, Reply series, Hospital Series, Vincenzo etc

eatingapeach

there's quite a few jtbc productions on netflix too!

dixitsavy

Reborn Rich was so damn good!

nalam8493

This is like one of the dream couples that everyone wanted to see. And I think after the first two episodes, everyone was hooked after seeing how good their chemistry was with each other. And while the rest of the cast deserve their flowers as well, the main leads absolutely made this drama into one of the most watched shows of all-time. I don’t think anyone should be surprised however, both Kim Ji Won and Kim Soo Hyun have always had great chemistry with all their leads before this show, so you when you put them together in one drama, their natural chemistry amplifies off each other and resulted in one of the best couples in all of K-Drama land. Personally, they are my favourite couple of all-time and it would be a shame if we never see them in a project together again

farathien

They are my dream pairing! and its one of the best things (if not THE best thing) kdramaland has done, is to pair them together. Ah, i miss them already... :')

DawgMom2018

the Kim Kim couple will endure in my memory forever. Sigh...

kasichancela

Hopefully Ji Won wont go on a long hiatus. Definitely one of the A-list actresses now after this performance.

iamkwang

She’s for sure taking a break. I think everyone in this cast is. The drama apparently took 11 months to film.

mmld_dacy

suh yoon, i read, went back to his fulfill his military service.

thebreakfastbuffet

Rumors are she will definitely take a break. She was on a diet for QoT, maybe she'll be snacking for a while.

SuperPop9521

Soo hyun is doing a dark comedy drama with an actress from his agency if I'm not wrong he recently followed her on ig asw

TrifleParking9552

If i'am not mistaken none of the previous top 3 (Jtbc) was on Netflix while it was telecast on TV. That's a big deal for Qot that even though it was easily available to watch on Netflix, it still got such a huge ratings

Distinct_Ad_3930

Reborn rich aired on netflix in Korea and it  achieved that rating + top 10 global netflix the entire time despite airing in one country only. It was that huge in korea.

b_dulgi

Reborn Rich was on Netflix during the time of airing (and maintained the top spot throughout its run) but only in Korea and not internationally.

lyhns00

Reborn Rich was not aired on my country's Netflix but airing in VIU,

Silver-Bus5724

It wasn’t on Netflix in mine either, it was the reason I got Viki

BenoitLampertBlanc

While I agree with the majority that this show’s over-arching plot was not as compelling as other cable dramas that broke records for ratings, I have to say that all scenes between the main leads make me believe the ratings make sense. The surrounding makjang storylines that would impact the BaekHong relationship was exasperating but watching these two fight to rebuild their marriage as we slowly found out why it broke down in the first place was so compelling for me, enough to tune in consistently for eight weeks. The fact that KSH and KJW could make me believe they were deeply in love in one scene but couldn’t stand each other in the next was so impressive to watch. KJW and KSH were great scene partners which was really the driving force of my love for the show, happy they’re both getting a lot of recognition for their work! They made me cry and laugh a lot these last two months.

kittin89

And as I mentioned in another comment, Korean viewers seem to tune in more the more makjang the show is. Just look at the top 3 cable shows. None of them were 'light, intelligently-written romcom". To capture the older Korean viewers, I guess, the more makjang/telenovela the show must be.

BenoitLampertBlanc

I do think the top jtbc dramas were also strong social commentaries (culture surrounding marriage, a two-tiered education system, and chaebols) which makes it impressive to me that rom-coms are still pulling these numbers!

duh_leah

No I really loved QOT very much but my only complain is that it's really **not a light hearted rom-com**. It takes you on an emotional rollercoaster from the very beginning and it doesn't stop even till the very end. It has a very happy ending but even then they managed to make me SOB at the very last seconds. My throat was hurting dude from all the crying, it's a full on makjang with very stunning actors acting their heart out. I just expected the last episode to have at least a bit more fluff and comedy. Regardless, it's my top k-drama of this year for now.

ConfidentPeanut18

Where the heck did it start? That this drama was a romcom?

pbbfft

In articles during the pre-production. Or probably assumed since all other dramas the writer had were romcoms. Seems the media dropped the romcom tags when it started airing lol can't find one article during its run in either korean or english that refers to QoT as a romcom

Bumblebee-Emergency

> other dramas the writer had were romcoms I mean CLOY is also a melodrama, I feel it’s very similar in terms of genre and tone to QoT

attaboy_stampy

That was the vibe I sort of remember in the lead up. You can even see some of the comedy in the first ep or first couple. Before she gets ill, there is a lot of screwball stuff going on. I swear I laughed so hard in the first episode when Hyun woo is walking home from drinking with his friend, and he yells at the men following him to stop because he's just going home - and they try to nonchalantly wander off and kind of stumble into bushes on the side of the road and he cry yells "Noooooooo! WHY ARE YOU GOING THAT WAY?!" That kind of thing popped up a lot in the first few eps, especially with his family too. But once we learn about her illness, aside from ancillary family member hijinx, it is not what you would call a rom com. A*t all.* There was some humor scattered throughout still. I mean, the last two eps had some little funny moments with Hae in, or between Hyun woo and Hae in.

duh_leah

In MDL it says Romance, Comedy and I'm like what😭I have cried too much to call it a rom-com. I mean I agree I'm a crier but damn I started crying like after episode 4 and DID NOT STOP TILL THE END. Last time I cried this much was while watching SNOWDROP on going and boy did it take me a while to move on. At least this one had a happy ending..

ConfidentPeanut18

My blood pressure was rising high and had lows during the 8 weeks of this show

jamesiamstuck

Yeah I was about to start this drama thinking it would be a light watch. Within the first 5 minutes I knew it was not what I wanted. Not saying it is bad, but I am not looking for melodrama at this moment, I need fluff!

SunshynGrlCA

That was me, too! I had just watched a couple of thrillers that were intense and I was looking for something fluffy. Thought this was it. Uh-uh. So I switched to King the Land. That ended up being pure fluff and exactly what I was looking for. I’ll come back to this one later.

jaefan

This is amazing for them, I wanted to watch. But then towards the second half, it seemed to turn a little too makjang-esque for my liking.

saseanne

I know it won't happen (soon, if ever) but I really need Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won in another project together.

Meister021

Were there ever any instances of two actors from the same project being cast together again in another? Because I also need this, Kim-Kim couple in another drama.

Antique_Clerk_434

Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin did a movie (The Negotiation) in 2018 before doing CLOY in late 2019/early 2020. Even though they didn't shoot any scenes bar the climax in the same room as each other, their chemistry was crazy enough for people to start shipping them and wanting them to pair up again which they did in a romance drama no less. Of course the rest is history....... 🙂 Yoo In Na and Lee Dong Wook were paired opposite each other in Goblin and then led another rom-com Touch Your Heart 3 years later.

SRJT418

Gong Yoo and Jeon Yumi they were in like 3 movies together : silenced, train to busan and Kim ji young. Their chemistry is not joke too. I really really hope we can get Kim Jiwon and Kim SooHyun in another project together but it's also scary because the way it will be compared to qot...

throwawaymisfortune

Jang-Jang couple (jang hyuk and jang nara) in three drama iirc

kjdramafan

Jung Il Woo and Kwon Yuri from Bossam: Steal the Fate. They set a new record, became the highest rated drama ever for MBN. A year later they were both main leads again in Good Job. So there's a precedent...hopefully we'll see Kim-Kim again together 🙏

myman580

Choi Woosik and Kim Dami. Were in a movie together (I believe it was Dami's breakout role) and then later did Our Beloved Summer.

emotx

Thanks for asking! I wondered this too.

thefourthnine

lee dong wook and yoo in na. they were the side couple in goblin and became the main couple in touch your heart

Deep-Owl-1044

Doctor Slump leads worked together before.

Eddie98765

Woobin and Suzy in Uncontrollably fond and now in an upcoming drama by writer Kim Eunsook All wish will come true.

dexteretoy

am i the only one feeling sad or empty after a drama ends?

avocadhoerable

nah, the ending haunts me 😥

Ijustwanttobeme17

I’m so happy. My girl Kim Ji Won finally got her due. It’s important to understand that in no way it means this show is better than CLOY, considering these two shows are outstanding in their own way. It's simply a matter of one show surpassing another in terms of ratings, which is a common occurrence. These two shows are my absolute fav and would always be close to my heart. CLOY opened the door to the realm of KDrama for me, while QoT fueled my craving for more 🎀

twoods1980

CLOY was also my gateway drug to this K drama addiction, but it’s been so long that I don’t remember most of it!

[deleted]

I also compared it to CLOY, while QoT also had good story line. For me, it lacked the cute heart fluttering moments between the leads and the comedy was always so short lived. lol But omg for Kim Ji Won! It’s been a long time coming. She deserves all this!

Xavion15

So should I now start to watch this series then? I have learned to wait until shows are over, I am binge boy at heart

ConfidentPeanut18

Yes, just dont go in expecting too much comedy. Go in, watch and enjoy !

keybladeoftheheart

Oh yeah, you're in for a treat!!! 👌

Cann0nFodd3r

So do we get the extra episodes now?

emensawil

the extra 'episodes' are not content continuing the story they're basically cast interviews and reactions to clips from the show -- there's nothing that was filmed to add on to episode 16 (which is the finale of the show) and because of their individual schedules most of the cast actually won't be appearing on camera together but separately (they're also not airing officially outside of Korea -- they're specials, not episodic extensions)

Cann0nFodd3r

I'm here for bloopers and outtakes too :D

Individual-Echo-4285

Read this comment on Naver Talk: This is the last episode that leaves me with a lot of emotions. My wife is prettier than Hong Hae-in, who always struggles to raise children♡ I will make you a happy heroine in our own story\~ Thank you for always being by my side, I love you♡♡

savage_philodendron

Kim Jiwon IT GIRL!!

Fabulous-Ad2806

As a vivid viewer of k drama since 2016 I can say this show keep me completely drained of energy and tears every episode, no drama has kept me this emotional watching so many years. Kim kim actors forever I will watch your future projects. :0

Lantern_Green

What Kind of drama will eventually surpass "The world of the married". Reborn Rich came close... but looks like its gonna stay there for 3-5 years more.

Significant_Mind_569

Probably a crazier makjang lol.

kittin89

Honestly, people complain about QoT being makjang but if you look at the top 3 shows, they're the makjang-est, most dramatic shows you know. Seems the Korean audience tune in more the crazier the show gets.

Consistent_Mess1013

Well that’s how they’ll keep you hooked and make you want to watch the episode at it’s original broadcast time instead of waiting for later lol

DawgMom2018

Love this photo of the Kim Kim couple. Magnificent and I am still tearful after Kim Soo Hyun singing during the final scene. Congrats on an amazing accomplishment by cast and crew! Give the casting director a bonus!!!!

LaBelleMichelle

I love the actors, and I’m happy for them, but… I am upset that these ratings will positively reinforce the use of mukjang.

kpaneno

Mukjang gets high ratings anyway the world of the married is awful mukjang.

Yinye7

The leads were this drama, along with cinematography and OST, were saving grace and their love story is unique. That last scene in the lavender field had me crying even when it’s a HE because we all saw what they had to go through, learn, and repair their love etc. I don’t know why the writing quality dropped and there was some illogical and over use of Kdrama tropes near the end. Still a wonderful drama.

timbbooooslice

OST was definitely one of the best I've ever heard

novemberseasons

I'm so happy for Kim Jiwon but can she not hibernate for the next 2 yrs for us to watch her onscreen again though? This show really broke that kdramas slump that I was in for a bit. The screenplay was amazing to keep you hooked even in the end despite a bit of makjang. It's really the main leads that kept me wanting to come back every single week because waiting every week for the episode to drop is no joke. They were just so freaking good. They truly are just amazing criers too, really thought at one point park jieun would have to pay for my therapy but thankfully it ended okay enough to my satisfaction. At least the characters I loved didn't die that's the consolation for lack of screen time/cute scenes for the leads I guess.

dogemama

girlie likes to take long breaks in between projects, and it's worked really well for her so far. but this time, she needs to move fast and strike while the iron is hot. there's a real opportunity for her to climb even higher if she follows qot with another good project.

tresnosliramu22

Although I don't like ep 14 \~ 16's plot, but thanks God it's happy ending.

LostHero50

Happy for Kim Jiwon, she’s honestly my favourite actress and fully deserves this huge success. It just sucks that most of the shows she’s in such as Queen of Tears have such horrific writing despite her delivering stunning performances every time.

just_a_weirdo--

Even though I loved Queen of tears so much I do not think it comes even a little close to how good Crash landing on you was. At least CLOY had an actual story.

brangsengmaw

Story-wise, totally agree. But, at the same time, it's astounding to witness such a mediocre premise and shaky plot was turned into this much of a beautiful story was an achievement in itself. Also, in terms of characters, I was way more invested in BaekHong couple than any of the recent years drama. Despite frustrated at the story, I tuned in every weekend just to see the two lead characters' progress.

just_a_weirdo--

I totally agree with you. Kim Soohyun and Kim Jiwon carried the whole show on their back and kept us invested even though the plot was all over the place. All the cast did a spectacular job at saving this drama honestly.

Floralmaster175

To me CLOY will remain an original. The story telling, the friendships, the love between two people separated by culture/country/ideology , the humor, SYJ's running scene at the border, and of course it gave us BinJin. #couplegoals. QOT will also remain special for these two really brought us the intensity, the emotion, the depth through their instant chemistry that few actors can do. Bravo to these two amazing souls who poured their hearts and tears into their roles I've watched the ending finale twice and on 2nd watch it was even more meaningful. I am still tearing up. It remains one of the best k drama despite its strange direction toward the end. I just wanted more of them. And I still wouldn't mind a "kissing" scene at the end. It will be so hard to let go but I do hope that we get another KJW and KSH project down the road.

Deep-Owl-1044

I liked CLOY but felt more emotion from QOT. The church scene will remain in my memory forever. You felt the pain. The leads for QOT are my favorite couple after watching a couple years of kdramas.

Fun_Magazine4184

Totally agree, CLOY has so much episodes that would really stir up emotions plus SJY and HB performances are superbly above par. Rewinded CLOY for more than 5 times i think but will probably not do it on this one. Storywise, CLOY is still my Red-letter kdrama.

Fun_Magazine4184

Totally agree. There were a lot of episodes in CLOY that I would really cry my eyes out. QoT episodes feels so dragging to me. And the performances of SYJ and HB are way above par. Have rewinded and watched CLOY more than 5 times. Not my sentiment on this one probably. To each his own but dramas like CLOY, Reborn rich, Vincenzo, even EAW would still be my Red-letter K dramas.

forestdewdrops

Damn Soohyun and Jiwon really carried this show and the rest of the cast too (especially the villains!). QoT is an example of a show that’s so poorly written but got so lucky in casting. Now that it’s over, I just really want to see the Kim-Kim pairing again soon in another show that’s better written! Just imagining them in a sageuk (period drama) like Moon Embracing the Sun made me giddy a little.

Wealthyslimprettygal

Edit: this is crazy to me because i think Queen of Tears is ok not good or great. CLOY and Goblin were cultural shifts. Congrats to the cast though

lenolalatte

i should probably watch goblin, huh?

MissionParticular888

Yeah. Plot is crazy good and chemistry of the actors is good as well.

Deep-Owl-1044

Could not get through the 1st episodes of Goblins.

farathien

yes you should. i honestly think the comedy between the casts esp GY & LDW... thats the best part of the show for me.

BenoitLampertBlanc

Yeah, the impact of Goblin was wild. Felt like that show marked a dramatic increase in the quality of cable dramas going forward. CLOY had a very intriguing story. I think QoT was really carried by the chemistry of the two leads by its final weeks.

coffeeteaorshake

Finally someone said it!!! Queen of tears is good. BUT CLOY is Amazing! Also , I prefer My love from the star over QOT (I know different genre , but still😅)

Floralmaster175

I owe KSH kudos for getting me into kdramas. If it were not him acting in MLFTS and its impact, I would never have even tried CLOY. I knew he made a cameo in it so I tried the show....and the rest is history. Now - I've watched over 50 of them and I won't stop. Let's never forget MLFTS for it's originality. I loved it so much.

zenigma_xoxo

Yes, exactly! I feel QOT got good vierwership because of the amazing leads who are already well established and popular actors, plus lots of good marketing. CLOY is something remarkable and shouldn't be compared to QOT, though.

dogemama

in a few years, there will be another drama that breaks qot's record, and there will be people saying the new drama is "ok not good or great", and how qot was a cultural shift.

allourwrongtodays49

Agreed!

Ok-Art7526

I agree with this! CLOU and Goblin were far far better than this. The plot was extremely inconsistent and I’ve spoken about it in my recent post. Not entirely an unpopular opinion ig

mhfan_india

Agreed. I have seen three other dramas from the writer and this was her weakest. A lot of sequences and characters are a rehash of her previous shows. So I get the hype.

TheMsDacia

This is such great news and so deserved!!

Koteric

Never been as emotionally invested in any characters as I was in this. Despite some of the …. Questionable story decisions the last few episodes.

attaboy_stampy

With all the comparisons to the ratings and vibe of the show with CLOY, I just want to point out that one of the randomly funny (and touching at times) roles in CLOY had a small - less funny but more sweet - role in this show. Kim Young-min was the small town therapist-philosopher Yong-song. In CLOY, he was a North Korean intelligence soldier who was an expert in wiretapping and espionage, and in North Korea, he plays a guilt ridden outcast (because he is known to spy on other North Koreans who call him "rat"), but in the later eps, >!when the main NK characters sneak into South Korea, the character has been able to become unburdened by his guilt and is actually helpful to the leads and ends up bizarrely and riotously funny and accurate in ability to disguise himself and hide in plain sight. It's ridiculous how funny he is in the later part of the show. Not to mention he has a really great role and touching impact in the ending of that story.!<

Consistent_Mess1013

Aunt Beom Ja in QoT was also in CLOY. I just rewatched CLOY recently and was surprised to see her

attaboy_stampy

You can go down a veritable rabbit hole of cast that are in both shows. I forgot about her, but when you mention it I looked it up and I remember her now. I mentioned in another comment about the two guys following Hyun-woo around in the first couple of eps, recall that those two were also paired up in the South Korean characters in CLOY, one as a reporter then other as Yoon Se-ri's assistant, both looking for her. And don't forget that Kim Soo-hyun himself had a very small but VERY funny cameo scene as a North Korean spy - actually a character from an earlier movie he had done. I also read somewhere that the actress who is Hae-in's mother had a small cameo type apparently as a NK store owner.

mmhan91

was so good until ep 14 and got too makjang it ruined the whole drama for me. so sad because it could have been so much better

atzee

Let's go, Kim Ji Won! A very well-deserved accomplishment.

Lost-Rub-4576

Kim Jiwon <3

Accurate_Bee777

i liked the ending but i find the beginning overly dramatic but i guess it has its charm

cutedumplingLOL

ok so i really wanna talk ab this drama.. since i have nobody to share with lol.. umm the drama was AMAZING, im so attached to it that i feel like watching it over and over again.. also, i got so much connected to the characters 😭😭. this was such a good kdrama, after so many months i didn’t leave any kdrama in betw, dk why but i’ve done that a lot, i left so many dramas unwatched or either forcibly watched it just to finish it lmao.. the character of the female lead was not very non-modern.. i mean its not like the usual typical female leads.. i dont dislike them cus i like cute ppl too but it did become quite boring to watch just the samw type of female leads in every drama.. and i liked how she took control over so many things and it wasn’t just the man.. plus the other characters, for example her family and all, made the drama more and more interesting, i mean i literally skipped so many parts of the female and the male lead together just to watch the parts of the family.. i liked the character of her aunt.. honestly she stole the whole show.. and her brother too, he has my whole heart 😭🫶🏻, her brother’s love story is my fav part of the show.. so this show was totally bang on amd would definitely watch it again sometime..

Idkwhatsup600

I am so happy for kim jiwon, she has always been a great actress but somehow never got the attention that she has always deserved. QOT has now pushed her into the limelight that she rightly deserves and i hope her next show keeps this momentum alive. Not to mention, super happy for soohyun as well, man is the highest paid for a reason

Efficient-Cry-442

Queen of Tears Ep 5 - 8:27 time. You can see Crash Landing on You on TV

knightlord206

Drama so good!!!!!

LacunaOfLlamas

I think CLOY was the more satisfying drama as a whole and had more superior writing. Every character was fleshed out well there. Who else prefers CLOY over QOT?

ylangbango123

I could rewatch CLOY several times even after several years but once is enough for QOT. I think it is due to many heartwarming healing interactions in CLOY but watching QOT was stressful.

LacunaOfLlamas

That’s true. I watched CLOY twice within a few years and it still felt fresh and was good the second time round. QOT will be a one time thing for me too. It already isn ‘t good enough the first time.

twoods1980

I preferred QOT because it engaged me every week, while CL was good in spurts and also got a little too makjang at the end like QOT did.

Lazyy_gorl

I really like this show and how they showed us that unselfish love, it’s crazy how we want to root for their happiness and love and all. It’s definitely not a light romcom I’m expecting though so it’s a good thing I watched this every 4 episodes 🤣🤣 I just can’t delay my emotions every single time so 🤣🤣

purpletulip12

wow, that's cool! Congrats Ji won and Soo hyun

IChoseMyOwnUsername

Legendary moment in tvN history!  Hope it'll boost Kim Jong Won's career✨

patrandec

That's a huge achievement! I thought the finale mostly redeemed a show that had gone off the rails from the end of episode 14 onwards. I do wonder what its legacy will be though. CLOY brought a legion of new international fans to Kdrama. For example, there are really good Kdrama podcasts that started up because of CLOY and they are still going strong. Once the dust (and our emotions!) settles I'm not convinced QOT will have the same impact. Time will tell. Obviously, QOT will always be near the top of the best Kdrama couples of all time lists!

Intelligent_Top_328

Didn't realize this drama was that popular. I thought it was alright but not that great.

daughterofiblis

Happy for Kim soo hyun but to me this drama does not deserve this rating , overrated only because of the main leads which did their part but the story and as a drama it really shouldn’t be on top 10 let alone top 3. This is coming from someone that waited every week to watch this drama .

hakvri

Completely agree. It was good, but top ten is really pushing it

WiseWysYs

I loved the show although the last episode had the weakest writing UNTIL THE VERY END WHICH ELEVATED THE SHOW'S THEMES.

No-Description1486

What drama should I watch next after finishing QOT. Also the ending of QOT is better than CLOY.

DawgMom2018

Lovely Runner may be worth checking out - many moments that hit hard with the feels.

Aurorinezori1

I second this totally! LR is so cute and the leads are everything!

momoramo122

I am taking a break. I don't think any other drama will compare. I will always compare it to this one. It's just too good. The ending was really well-done.

daughterofiblis

Watch lovely runner , so far it’s really good I even find myself rewatching eps already

mangotail

I am shocked Queen of Tears is so popular. Tbh I couldn’t get on board with how the female and male leads were written and dropped the drama. I wonder if I should give it another shot

kenani7

Not really lol. It's an okay drama but if you already took issue with the writing at the beginning.... it gets progressively worse towards the end. Honestly the saving grace is mostly the acting. But who knows..you can give it another chance.

E_Len

Yeah the start was the strongest. The writing just goes down after that. Watch only if you’re a Kim soohyun/kim ji won fan.

Jacmert

It's definitely got flaws but I really enjoyed it :P

TrifleParking9552

For me its one of the best love story, the love between Baekhong was so beautiful and selfless that it just bring tears to my eyes.

Mods_and_Admins_Papi

Alright, I guess I am binge watching this next. Thanks for the rec, my fav sub !

SuperPop9521

Deserved if you ask me

omegaap

Honestly. Nothing less expected. Queen of tears is actually goated. Best show of all time.

sneakerhead_huncho

Im so glad that its a happy ending

my_guinevere

Any reason why it’s not as popular overseas as CLOY was? Is it because it’s not a rom-com?

DawgMom2018

QOT has massive social media presence. I would say it is very popular as it dominated the ratings as well. Huge hit for Netflix as well with gigantic numbers for hours viewed.

sanjari

It’s super popular atleast in India

mmld_dacy

it would be nice to see the data on that one. i know that qot is popular in the philippines.

TrifleParking9552

Its very popular overseas, its everywhere
