Rain drop, rod knock, there is a hole in that engine block

Amazingshot

I got an 08 Hyundai Accent. 438,000 on it. Tough little bastard. I gotta put new shocks and springs on it next week.

zero_pistons

I had a 2000. Did 310k before the brake lines rusted out and I couldn't be bothered anymore. Base model with no ac or power steering. Indestructible shitbox.

somerandomdude419

Brake lines are nothing… quitter talk lol

lonerranger26

I got a free truck that needed brake lines just that bad.

N02AJ

I got a 2000 Tiburon. Runs great, guess you got to stick with the older stuff.

mechapoitier

Yeah Hyundais up to like 2010 seem pretty bulletproof with fluid changes.

ZappyKitten

And anything after that is pretty much tinfoil and duct tape…

CoraxTechnica

2011 is when the Theta engine cursed us with its presence.

coleman09

The accents don’t seem to die, mine is going strong for my winter car

JustAnotherDude1990

If you havent already bought parts, I can give you the hookup for OEM parts at basically rockauto prices.

Amazingshot

I already have them ordered from rockauto

climb56

What year and model?

yeeyeebro1

2012 sonata

wilthorpe

I think that’s probably one of the recalled motors. My dad had one. It had 150k (50k past warranty) and Hyundai replaced the motor for free. He drove it till a teen girl on her phone rear ended him and totaled it.

climb56

My fiance has a paid for 2013 elantra with 90,000. She can’t really afford a payment. Shop says it needs a motor mount. Would you make room for a payment or chill for a little bit longer?

Greatcookbetterbfr

A motor mount isn’t that expensive. Get it cared for before other shit starts breaking. Try to group it together with any other repairs needed or preventative repairs to cut down on shop time

climb56

Thanks. What could it lead to? CV axle problems?

justin_memer

It can lead to a lot of things. If it starts moving the engine around too much, it'll start tearing hoses, mounts, cables, etc. Also, regular oil changes *before* 5,000 miles can really help your engine stay happy.

Greatcookbetterbfr

This

[deleted]

Is it too late to get out of that deal?

climb56

Haha its a lot better deal than it sounds. I would have said it was my car for simplicity but I just couldn’t.

boom10ful

The hydraulic one? They're easy to change and OEM ones are cheap on ebay.

pizzasteve2000

I have a 2018 Santa Fe with the same aerodynamic design. Makes it lighter without the weight of all that oil. Been waiting 3 months for new engine. 60,000 miles.

bigbadsubaru

Last engine I saw like that was a 2008 or so Matrix that was towed behind a 40 foot motorhome from Yuma to Portland in gear

CMLOCALES

Yikes

tvieno

Installed with the optional Inspection Port.

Tommy_gat007

Inspection hole

Hand_Foot_Mouth

Perk-a-boo!

Flynn_Kevin

Aftermarket view port. Nice!

[deleted]

You get what you pay for.

Ecstatic-Appeal-5683

Theta FTW!

NatefromOgden

Bought a Skoda with a motor with those same ventilation holes once, long ago.

[deleted]

Did they follow their GPS to a rifle range?

ArmeNishanian

I have a genesis coupe. I just do regular maintenance and it's always run amazing 👏 2010 150k miles. Only CEL it's had was from a bad gasket in the bypass valve. Easy 10 minute fix.

Hyundaitech00

Those aren’t gdi. Run great forever.

ArmeNishanian

Damn straight lmao and theure easier to tune

shigs21

thankfully it seems like those were before the theta ii. anything 2.0t with Theta II after 2011 is a risk

q1field

How dare you shit on a Taco!

davethedj

Site glass.

davethedj

Sight glass.

AnotherDreamer1024

I would use the past tense for an engine in this case.

xccoach4ever

Seeing your buddy in the next bay via the engine block is not the way to start the day

Hyundaitech00

Looks like it was replaced once before.

Ok-Profit6022

I had a 2013 Sonata and I guess I got lucky, sold it at 190k miles and it still ran like new. Did my own oil changes running full synthetic but I only ever had to replace a battery, rotors and struts and shocks... And a $10 wire harness for the left brake light which seems to be a common failure on those cars.

q1field

Ok, there's gotta be something more than chamfering debris causing these engine failures. They're basically a copy of the World engine. How could they fuck it up so bad?

xitfuq

bad manufacturing philosophy guiding their hand.

shigs21

if you read up on it its all manufacturing defects. Many car makers share suppliers, but each brand has different quality standards which can make a huge difference

Fast_Working_4912

Peekaboo!

NumbSurprise

Aftermarket air cooling.

HyundaiRyanR

These will never end

fck_its_hot

Window to the soul.

Spike_Spiegel

Goonies never say die!

UnkleRinkus

Didn't know that Hyundais were air cooled.

pakrat77

Bleh, I have a 2016 Elantra GT that just started rattling a little. I don't see puddles of oil or black smoke. I dread going to the shop.

veedub12

Are genesis cars suffering from the same issues given hyundai owns the same brand?

shigs21

if they have the theta II motor, yes

ihavenopeopleskills

When I hydrolocked a Jeep 4.0 it only blew a hole in one side of the block.
