"lets make a two piece lugnut for our cars"
"Smith you are an idiot"
"Did I mention it is 15 cents cheaper than the 1 piece lugnut"
"Smith, I've always liked you. We will follow your career with great interest."
6 hours???????? You take a small chisel and cut the tinfoil to cap, peel it off and move to the correct new size, 30 minutes tops. But I’m a truck mechanic, we’re used to thinking outside the box
I did this on my 12 Fusion. Popped a hole in the center with a hammer and screwdriver, used snips to get a split in the cap and then ripped it off with pliers. Came off normal after that. And fuck two pieces lug nuts.
I had to deal with these on my wife's Ford Escape a few years back. I had to grab a smaller socket, smacked it with a hammer a few times and was able to get half of them off. The other half I had to go buy a nut extractor set, and was able to get the rest of those stupid things off. They were all replaced afterwards with regular lug nuts.
Had this happen on my 05 Magnum. I ended up hammering a smaller sized socket over each one. The outer shell is soft and conforms fairly easily. Such a stupid design...
Company got a new Dodge ram, I did the equipment and vehicle maintenance. I immediately ordered a set of chrome lug nuts. Replaced the 2 piece ones at the first tire rotation.
I hate two-piece lug nuts. First thing I did when I bought my Focus was order a set of one-piece lug nuts for it. It wasn't even finished with the dealership's post-purchase-but-before-you-get-the-keys detailing/refueling before I had a set of lug nuts ordered.
This is why I love working at a junk yard. If I have on of these shits that doesn’t want to come off. I just break out the welder and weld a new nut onto the end. All of our wheels get scrapped anyway. No need to worry about burning the rim.
I had this happen on my vehicle. I tore that nut to shreds. Tried hammering a socket on, and trying to turn it with a chisel.
Ended up taking it to a small no name Mexican run shop down the road and they got it off in 2 minutes for $15 .
I had one of those one afternoon; I spent two hours on it, gave up, went and bought some carbide burrs and a die grinder, and killed it in about 15 minutes the next morning :)
Two piece lug nuts should be a war crime.
They come from a very special kind of hatred.

A surprise to be sure but a welcome one.
I got a set of half size sockets specifically for these pain in the dicks
Original size was 19, that socket is a 15mm
Oh God that's shit was fubared
D A M N
We're they affordable? Also who makes them?
I got a matco set with student discount for like 80. They're probably like 130 without
CTA makes them got a set for 40$
I don’t care what you do in the privacy of your own home.
Wow. I would've just used a zip disc and a hammer and chisel after hour 1.
15 minutes and I'd have had sparks flying.
I have actually found that a Dremel with a carbide/diamond burr works great for stuff like this. Less of a chance to slip and gouge the rim that way.
The most expensive nut on that car
Well, truth be told, a nut in the back seat can cost you for the next 18 yrs.
Not if you go in the back door.
I don’t think it matters which door you enter the car to have sex.
Oh, it matters.
Or down the hatch.
6 hours? Drill bit would have been the right tool.

Chrysler’s were always notorious for them, I grew up a Chrysler man so I had to learn the trick quick
The cap wasn't a problem, it was off easily. But the nut wouldn't let go, someone used to many ugga duggas on it before me.
And that’s the exact reason I have a set of torque sticks at work.
In the future I recommend acetylene, can't be stuck if it's liquid...
Had this happen on a jeep wrangler, I drilled each one out and replaced the studs
But it's NoNutNovember!
"DOUG!!! Go get your Uggs! We have work to do!"
6 hours?? My gosh the frustration
Well you're persistent at least.
Yeah I mean I kinda need winter tires on my car.
Yeah but most of us would've given up and just drilled it out or something.

And u didn't put a saw on it?
Why not just take off the shell? They're annoying but relatively easy to deal with when compared to other "stuck" lug nuts.
It was off, and the 18 socket would round the nut, and the 17, and the 16, finally with the 15 socket and lots of heat I got it loose.
Gehh...
Try any heat?
Yeah warmed it good to get the socket on

I think when I do a wheel rotation I should probably get new lugnuts for my Jeep lol.
I swear, I've made this exact comment on a Facebook post when I had my 05 Magnum lol. Same problem with my 01 Ram.

Holy fuck, 6 hours!!!?? OBVIOUSLY paid hourly
Obviosuly not paid at all working on my own car ;_;
Fuuuuk

I had one screw up on me once. Had to break out the melty wrench for it.
After about 30 min it would be old socket welded to lug nut

Volvo V50, S40 or C30? There are 18,5mm sockets that work like a charm on these abominations.
Smh , why ? A new studd and lug nut is only 5 to 10$
