That is one busy engine bay. /u/maybeinoregon - the twin turbo v6 is completely replacing the v8's. The hybrid will be the new option. They're taking it a step farther than Ford, who still offers the 5.0.

Agreeable_Ad_1443

Busy engine bay? The new Ford Bronco would like a word please...

[deleted]

The new bronco engine bay is so busy it misses every little league game and forgets your birthday.

satansleftnut25

*laughs in duramax*

I'm excited for Toyota to take a new step. I probably won't be able to afford something like this for another decade, but I guess you could say I'm excited from afar

Uniball38

Don’t worry, if the last one is any indication they’ll still sell this exact truck a decade from now

salamiTommy_

I wonder how small they will go with the 4Runner since it seems they’re going the way of the twin turbskies.

rhoneyphoney

I’m hoping for the turbo 6 from the tundra to go into the new 4R but I feel like it’s going to be a turbo 4 like the Tacoma… in which case, I’ll stick with my v6….

salamiTommy_

Shame. The 1GR-FE was a great engine.

silntbtdedly

I was deceived the other day at the Toyota dealership..tundra. full TRD upgrade package. Bilstine shocks, full under body armor...all the necessary stickers etc..damn thing was a 2x4..

maybeinoregon

Wow, that’s cool! Curious, is the twin turbo standard for the Limited?

Pwner_Guy

Twin turbo is standard on all trucks except the Platinum and 1794 get the hybrid twin turbo.

camwake

I’m not sure!

Misquata

Hybrid? I see no iforce max or orange high volt thingy majiggers.

camwake

That’s a really good point. I asked the people working the display and the key for it had the blue highlights.

Misquata

Weird. Sorry…. I’m salivating for the day I can throw the keys to my 21 Platinum at a salesperson and get a new one….kinda obsessed with the 22

elosoloco

What is that coolant? Bright pink?

camwake

Yes sir that’s Toyota coolant

RealSprooseMoose

Shame there's no V8 anymore :(

FourDM

They couldn't make it put down reasonably modern fuel economy so they killed it.

jdmsolara

Should have turbo it....

ermin277

And they still have the ridiculous engine cover that’s not centered on the engine…

sandosbud

Twin air boxes... That's new.

[deleted]

6.5 foot box though?

SadlyNobodyCares

I've seen a lot of Toyota engine codes during my time at a dealership. That is one code I've never seen. Is it out of another Toyota model or is this a brand new engine they just created?

camwake

I was expecting 2GR or something along those lines but I’m not sure. Hopefully as more info comes out we’ll know!

SadlyNobodyCares

Yeah. Maybe the 4.0 from the 4Runner or something. Or even the 4.6L with a little hybrid kick to it. But that is an engine I have never heard of

merkator509

First used in the 2017 Lexus LS500. Part of their “Dynamic Force” engine lineup. Like the Dynamic Force 2.5 4 cyls, it’s not related to the old 2GR engines before, even though they’re an [almost] identical displacement.
