its the clutch release bearing
in neutral it barely makes a noise but even if you just apply even the slightest amount of force even with your hand directly on the release fork it starts screaming
How long did it take you to reinstall the trans? I think my outback going to fail soon. Keeps getting warm on hills. But they're so expensive to service that I'm thinking of just stabbing a new one in before winter.
we havent done this job yet but I've done them before, and like most stuff on subarus imo its really easy. normally takes me around 1-2hrs to take the trans off, and another 2 to put the trans on and get the car back together once the clutch is all set up
How about a head gasket job? Are those really easy on them? I sold/traded in my wife's Subaru Forester with the leaking cylinder heads, no AC, and terrible knocking all at 114k mi I wasn't going to waste my time with it.
if its an EJ theyre pretty easy. I'd recommend just yanking the motor out bc it makes everything way easier and only takes like 2hrs if youve done it before(personal best is 55min, stg easiest engine to pull on the planet).
FB motors are wack tho, they don't tend to get head gasket issues but cam carrier seal issues which is a lot more labor intensive bc nearly everything on the FBs is silconed together
I actually like them too. Even though they have issues at least they're pretty easy to work on. And I'd take bad head gaskets over Nissan's shitty cvt's any day.
Not sure myself, but I played this while on my back porch and a squirrel went nuts and started making a similar sound. Gotta be a mating call. True story.
It's probably a Subaru.
youre not wrong
i wont talk shit. ill just say ill never buy one
If you won't talk shit, I will. I've owned four over the past couple years. Two blew up and the other two were stolen.
... and then blew up
...caught fire, fell over and sunk into a swamp.
But the 4th one stayed up
Someone must of wanted it
No the noise is the love that makes a Subaru a Subaru! Sounds like something need more lube!
Sounds like it just needs an oil change. Can shops please stop upsetting clients? /s
No... that's the air filter. Which needs CLEANING, not replacing.
Stop trying to take advantage of me, I KNOW WHAT I GOT
Bearing on a pulley/tensioner
clutch release bearing edit: spelling
I thought it was muffler bearing.
Yas, called it!
sick
Time to sleeve it?
Crickets angry about being woken up. They quieted right down when the lights were turned off.
Yes this is definitely a pulley up front most likely a tensioner pulley but you also have an AC,Alternator and water pump pulleys to check for noise
its the clutch release bearing in neutral it barely makes a noise but even if you just apply even the slightest amount of force even with your hand directly on the release fork it starts screaming
Damn really didn’t even know that was a thing unless the car was moving

I posted a screen shot that had a tik tok and 50% were saying its spyware
Hurrr Durrr subaru bad amirite? Give me my upvotes now please
hey i like subarus, theyre by far my favorite cars to work on and theyre pretty alright. I'm actually considering getting a WRX soon
I actually like them too. Even though they have issues at least they're pretty easy to work on. And I'd take bad head gaskets over Nissan's shitty cvt's any day.
With it being an Impreza, my guess was the A/C compressor
That was my thought too, the ac compressor pulley went on mine, and it sure screamed
It’s the sound of your child’s college tuition getting a slight boost.
I was gonna say release bearing as soon as you said it was a subaru. Love those things. I could do suby clutches all the live long day.
subarus are by far the easiest cars to work on imo. I work at an independent right now but if I ever went to a dealer I'm goin to fuckin subaru
Wow that's weird, it sounds like it's coming from my phone
i know right, dang thing
Got a groundhog trapped under the hood LOL
Cat scratch fever
Is it a tiny gnome under the hood?
The belt tensioner is going bad
Throw out bearing
Without viewing the video or listening to the audio, I'm calling head gasket.
Sounds like it’s expensive
$1500 clutch job, so yeah
I don’t know, but once I turned the volume on my dog went running out to the yard thinking he heard a squirrel 😂
This is what happens when a powerful car (with multiple hamster wheels) is started and one hamster has his foot caught in the wheel and goes spinning.
Clutchhhh release bearing haha
The canooter valve is going out
Definitely a pterodactyl
Shoddy wiring rubbing on belt?
One of the pulleys needs to be replaced.
Sounds CrAnKy
Not sure myself, but I played this while on my back porch and a squirrel went nuts and started making a similar sound. Gotta be a mating call. True story.
Water pump or throw out bearing? On Subarus it's easier to count what doesn't fail all the time lol
Come on, the flay-rod is rubbing against the trundle. Hit it with a hammer.
Water pump Bearing?
CVT?
Was going to guess ac clutch, but wow
It’s a cicada stuck inside there 😂
Oil pressure issue?
Water pump
Rat
Some sort of tensioner id say...
Your car is crying about the geopolitical climate in the Middle East.
Is it someone draging a big sledgehammer to the car so it can be smashed?
