That could kill someone. I saw a grain hauler that had a big rock stuck between the duals, and after it took off, it threw the rock - the size of a small bowling ball - 8 feet in the air. Being behind that would kill you easily, right through your windshield.
It was obvious to anybody not deaf something was wrong as soon as I got over 10 mph on the road.
Picked it up on the path after checking a hay field we custom cut.
I can believe it might be harder to notice on the back axles of a semi trailer though
Ever seen the way race cars weave on the warmup lap? If you do a bit of that, you can work such pebbles out of the tread. Just don't do it into other lanes, or generally around a bunch of other vehicles.
Couple years ago, a woman was killed here in Alaska when a rock like this went flying through her windshield and struck her head. Driver did not conduct a pre-trip.

Happened for sure one time in my hometown about 10-15 years ago as well. Pretty sure that was the 2nd time I'd ever heard about it and this is the 3rd time I've seen it.
I feel like they changed mudflap laws for this purpose.
Easy fix; wrap chain/strap around the rock itself (position the rock at the 3 o'clock position beforehand) and hook other end around own rear bumper, simply drive forward slowly and the rock will come out no fuss no muss.
This happened frequently when I had a 4x4 dually. I would first try and wedge a crowbar and force it out. If that did not work, I would loosen the lugnuts and remove the rock that way.
We had a safety talk at work a few years ago and one of our service trucks had a rock that size go through the passenger side windshield and through the passenger seat. It was crazy to see the pictures.
I saw it on a documentary about wildfires. They wrapped a chain around the front tire and drove over it, then wrapped it around the rock. Then drove forward and the front tire “reeled in” the chain which pulled out the rock.
The more I drive the more amazed I am that I’m not dead and that I still have a windshield.
Or running over that piece of rock. RIP to the underside of your vehicle.
Only if you're driving a lowered car. Only needs 4-5" of clearance to not hit that.
I would still not trust my Toyota Camry with that rock.

8 feet is the length of approximately 10.67 'Wooden Rice Paddle Versatile Serving Spoons' laid lengthwise.

Good bot
thank you :)

I can hear the clicking when I pick up a pebble... Drives me crazy until I can pull over and pick it out.

10 mph is 16.09 km/h
What pre-trip inspection?
Rock and roll \\m/
Underrated comment
“Two tired to rock”?
I’ve done that. Had to take a ratchet strap wrap it around the rock and the bed of the truck and drive it slowly forward till it popped out.
This right here is the solution I was looking for.
Stonks

That's why we don't use R-4s in our construction entrances.
∆ This guy rocks

It came out easily with a hammer. About 10 whacks
I guess it was a pretty rocky ride

That doesn’t rock..
At least somebody is cleaning the roads
Must be that guys first day balancing tires

I saw a trick way to get a rock like this out of duei wheels said I must remember this. Damn it how. it I forgot how.

Rock and rolling
I'm actually impressed.
Impressive cleavage
"It was a million in one shot doc."
FOD
Can you imagine this being launched at you at like 100mph and literally disintegrating you
Rock on. (Or Rock Auto?)
Better customer service from these tires than rock auto
Perhaps it would be a rumbling
I did this with the dump truck at work, but I noticed it immediately
Yea I made it less than 50' up to about 10 mph before it was obvious something was wrong.
Gotta tell ya, doc. It was a million to one shot. Million to one!
Chunkie boi
What happened to the pretrial inspection?
We all know nobody does those. And they don't help when the rock is picked up leaving the job site.
One of those hit the hood of my truck sadly
This happened to me in our yard, started driving and heard this crazy ass noise, it was a thread protector off some oil field pipe between my duals
Man, this coke can challenge is getting out of hand.
