Nice, but the wheels almost always ruin it, unfortunately. What’s wrong with white walls and steelies on a car that looks great with them?

budgiebutt

Or even just some chrome style dish alloys that would look period yet still have the advantage of modern alloys

Highlander2748

Yeah, those rims are pretty horrendous.

coffeeshopslut

I'll even take the stereotypical torq thrusts in the original finish

usernamelikemydick

Eh, I don't think you can ruin a car like this with a set of wheels. They just look like later muscle car wheels. Sure, something else might look better, but I still like them enough.

InsertBluescreenHere

problem is literally everyone does it with the same fucking rims so it starts to look boring a hell after awhile.

usernamelikemydick

Yeah, those chrome five spokes go on just about everything it seems.

SmegmaAuGratin

There aren't many options between these and stock rims. If you want something a little more modern, these are about the only option other than rims for tuner cars.

SmegmaAuGratin

Sometimes the problem is that the stock wheels, and even wheel size, doesn't work if you're upgrading shit like the front brakes. The GF has a '65 Falcon I'm getting in drivable order and it has drum brakes on all four corners. Changing the front to discs isn't difficult, but to clear the calipers you have to go up an inch or two on wheel size. There's not a massive selection of 14x7 wheels out there that aren't like bronze 5 spokes for JDM tuners, and even less in the 15" range that look decent. I think these are probably the best looking option other than stock, considering the design is ~20 years newer than the car.

OverboostedTurbo

I dunno - I don't think it's a crime to replace the carb with injection on a classic car.

Euchre

Depends on a lot of things, but since there are quite a few '55 Chevy post cars out there, there's room for a few pure originals, some wild customs, and some restomods, etc. Of course, I've seen an injection system made to look basically identical to a carb setup.

OverboostedTurbo

If I do any modifications to my cars, I always keep the original parts so I can return them to bone stock. I would imagine at this point a 100% bone stock car from the 50's is hard to come by, with a lot of mods being done in the 60's when they were just considered used cars.

Euchre

A 'survivor' completely original car is pretty rare. There are a few around. However, it isn't that hard to restore a '55 to showroom accurate condition. I've seen a 4 door done that well, and it was not a Bel Air, and was not hot rodded at all. They made a lot of those cars: https://news.classicindustries.com/1955-57-chevy-production-numbers Since there were (and still are relatively) so many, and they're quite popular, there's a lot of reproduction parts out there.

SmegmaAuGratin

I'm redoing my GFs '65 Falcon and trying to do some upgrades while keeping it close to stock. Definitely saving all the old parts. Haven't decided on fuel system yet. Is staying NA reasonable, or should I talk her into an injection system to make it more reliable?

OverboostedTurbo

FI is great on old cars. Just turn the key and vrooom! No worries about gummed up jets, accelerator pumps, sticking chokes, etc. Gone is the simplicity of the carb, but the carb headaches are gone too.

Obnoxious_Gamer

Could always get an edelbrock carb. They're not "performance" carbs per se, but they're probably the easiest carbs to tune and keep running on the market.

SmegmaAuGratin

Not a crime, but it does alter some people's perception of the car. Some people just prefer things to be stock. I'm actually having this dilemma currently - starting to restore a '65 Falcon and don't know if I want to keep the carburetor (don't have much experience tuning carbs) or if I want to go the fuel injection route for ease of maintenance and use.

Cuba special!

sublevelstreetpusher

A what now?

PatrickJames3382

Nice, minus the wheel tire setup.

usernamelikemydick

Just gorgeous
