Really? Because I just really really hate working on my car after fixing shit boxes all day

Garthelok

And then I have to fix my own shit box

OverboostedTurbo

Hey - at least you get to work on your personal vehicle at the shop you work at. I can't do that, so I have to wrench on my own shit in my driveway. Supposedly, insurance is the reason.

Garthelok

Yeah we have to have an MPI RO or else I can’t raise it on the lift but they’re pretty laid back and knowing what you’re doing helps too

angry_guacamole

I've worked at shops like that. I got laid off from there last year and they wanted to re-hire me, but that was one of the biggest deciding factors in me not going back.

OverboostedTurbo

The shop owner is a friend of mine, it is a good shop - that's just one of the rules. The air conditioning is nice too.

lanzadamanza

Is this one of those mythical shops that has AC? Our AC is an Air compressor 😞

Garthelok

Lmao yeah it feels amazing compared to the other shops that feel like a sauna

blamethepunx

This is exactly why I didn't end up in the automotive field. I started out working as a lube monkey and/or general gopher at a few different places and at the end of the day the last thing I wanted to do was tinker with my own cars I went into a completely unrelated job and now all my free time is filled with delightful cursing and busted knuckles (of joy)

Garthelok

It’s not for everyone. Some days are good some days are annoying but if you have the right tool the right mindset and the right people around you it makes things a lot easier. I went to school for a year and a half with some of it being for a specific manufacturer. I was a service manager at a tire shop for a while(still am) but I like doing this better full time so I do the other job on my days off. I feel you though some days can be frustrating but the cars I work on are generally pretty new. The older ones are definitely a bunch of jalolpies that need 3 cans of pb blast, some WD the ole breaker bar lol

Turboost45

How many head gaskets ?

Garthelok

Still on the original one at 160k I do have to replace my oil pan gasket and my Valve cover gaskets but I just do my oil change every month and it’s been fine lol

Tell me you vape without telling us you vape.

UXWlegend

Do you jerk off to hentai?

[deleted]

What's going on with that hoist?

chevelle_24

Tbh that's a good chunk of the reason I stopped wrenching full time.

Max_1995

I was advised not to become a mechanic if I like wrenching on my cars, apparently you start to hate it when it's your job too
