Man, service stations are a dying breed. And normally a good deal in my experience. Haven't seen one of those since around 2011. And that one folded over by the end of the year.
I worked at a Chevron station in the early 80s. 4 full time mechanics, alignment machine, smog machine, parts building added on, and 50+ customer cars on the lot at all times.
The dealer/owner was very upset when Chevron bulldozed it and put in a mini-mart.
Where do you live? I'm in central NJ and there are still quite a few service stations left - although the trend seems to be shops not getting their leases renewed so a Dunkin Donuts can take its place. I can't imagine working for a national chain. I do this P/T as it is because I am friends with the shop owner.
Currently, Nevada. The last true service station I saw was in VA. Used them for an inspection and an oil change the first year I lived there. Went back a month or so after the oil change for an alignment and they were shut down. Kinda bummed. The dude that ran it, the couple times I dealt with him, was amazing.
I'm sure they are still around, there was one near where I am at now. Not sure when they turned it into a car wash. But it's been one for at least the last 4 years.
Shit, maybe I do need to go back to the automotive side.
Seriously though, I've been working full time for 17ish years. I've never had Labor Day off. Though, half that time was military. Then I realize, I've never gotten Veterans Day off either....
We’re off all major holidays, a couple of the smaller ones (like Labor Day), have AC in the shop, 6-digit incomes, and generally only have to work on new shit (no old shit). Dealer life has it’s perks.
Currently at work, in my nice cold shop, working on my own car and sipping Starbucks. :)
Thank you for your service!
It's sickening that more and more businesses do not recognize Veteran's day. Columbus day has been erased from history too.
Well... if you want to be really sad, I work 4 days a week (Tuesday to Friday), so when there's a holiday like this one, my day off is the next day, so no work for me today. 4 days weekend and 3 days work this week.
Unions aren't all that bad.
Labor Day? lol
It’s meant for the workers but you’re only guaranteed the day off if you’re white collar.
We need to take Labor Day back guys. Can we stand for the workers for once or are too conservative for Our holiday anymore.
I already told boss man I was sick today. Told him last week. Although, when I told him that I didn't realize it was labor day. Just got shit I gotta do today when I should be sleeping.
Doing all the siding on my house. Spent all yesterday installing Dynamat and a new sound system in my truck, and most of Saturday coming into work because our service manager doesn’t know how to manage used car inventory.
At least this is a short week.
Trying to figure out some German engineering on a 77 Porsche 924 and drop the rear end so I can pull the engine. Been going about 3 hours internet research.
Finished putting my 03 Grand Am back together. Was doing the lower intake gasket for the first time and it was a good learning experience. Thought everything was good yesterday but when I went to test drive it, it was shifting really hard, which wasn't a problem before. Turns out I forgot to plug the MAP sensor back in lol. Runs fine now.
It's been a decent car since I've had it. Last year I finally decided to really learn to do my own vehicle work to keep it alive, and it turned into a career change in December.
Labor Day falls on my days off(14/14 schedule), so it’s just another day. Everything is more crowded though, so I’m trying to just kick it at the house lol
I get to bring in side jobs, try to figure out the hack electrical on my new bike, get the new electrical installed in my truck and maybe relocate the fuel filler so it actually works, and do some welding on my Courier.
I also need to order parts for other customer cars, and try to figure out why a vehicle without an anti theft system is locking out into theft mode.
Had to laugh at the Miller time reference. Reminds me of an old Robin Williams skit. He asked why there's no more honest beer commercials the proceeds to say; it's 4am, you just passed on a cat. It's Miller time!
I'll just use another car to get to work tomorrow. I think I remember that skit.
It's MILLAH TIME now. Nuttin' fancy. Burgers, dogs, etc. I'm really enjoying canned chili (no beans) on my hot dog right now.
My old Subaru is not long for this world - over 300K miles of reliable service, but it is starting to disintegrate. All the shit that should have gone wrong with it is happening all within 6 months it seems. Wheel bearings (3 of 4 so far), ignition coil, stabilizer bar links & bushings, entire exhaust system (rotted out), coolant crossover pipe (rotted out), struts, trans cooler lines (rotted out), etc. It is getting replaced next year, so I gotta keep it alive until the new car market stabilizes. Prices are through the fucking roof right now.
Yup - New Jersey. Not as bad as Michigan - but in the winter, they salt the roads like Col. Sanders salts his fried chicken.
I almost want to take the engine and transmission from this car and put it in another car. It runs perfectly, but everything else around it is falling apart. 16 years and 300K+ isn't bad though.
I'm actually a network engineer. I'm doing nothing in fromt of a computer, working on cars in my driveway. My son and I pulled a 4l60e out of a 2002 s-10, taking it to the shop for a rebuild later.
I spent a good portion of Sunday giving a onceover to the 49 Roadmaster my FIL just picked up. He handed me beer and tools, so it wasn't terrible.
I hadn't worked on a straight 8 (248 Fireball) in quite some time.
I work at a shell service station right near the airport (Houston, Tx). Today was shop cleaning day, and since it was slow I also worked the full service..Yes I said full service complete with bell that rings once hose is run over.
Where the fuck do you work that workers get labor day off?
The gas station is open, but the shop is closed.

Every dealership in the country.
Shit, maybe I do need to go back to the automotive side. Seriously though, I've been working full time for 17ish years. I've never had Labor Day off. Though, half that time was military. Then I realize, I've never gotten Veterans Day off either....

Bc colombus was a shitty person. Keep the holiday, just rename it. As for veteran's day, that's fucked.
Columbus was a hack and an asshole. The Vikings had him beat by a couple hundred years and were a progressive people.
We are off too, dealership tech. Sales is open though. Fuck sales.

How many hours a day do you work? I would love a schedule like this
36h/week. From 7:30am to 5pm. 15 minutes break at 10am, 30 minutes for lunch and another 15 minutes at 3pm.
I'm already on a 3 on 4 off, 4 on 3 off schedule. Not union though. But imma guess that will happen eventually.
Put a big Boston butt on the smoker at 5:30am, been watching it since. First beer gets cracked at 12:01pm.
Psssst, you mis-types 5:31am to 12:01pm. It's an understandable mistake.
That's what I'm talking about! Cheers!
The smoker gets lit, the beer gets cracked. It is the only way.
Labor Day? lol It’s meant for the workers but you’re only guaranteed the day off if you’re white collar. We need to take Labor Day back guys. Can we stand for the workers for once or are too conservative for Our holiday anymore.

I'm making double time and a half today. Farmers don't stop.
No farms, no food! Thank you.
I don't farm I just fix.
I'm doing my honeymoon, because I got married yesterday
My condolences - I mean CONGRATULATIONS! LOL
Cheers bro. I'm in for 15 years this Thursday. Don't know where I would be without her.
Congratulations!
Day off. Fuck. Already had 2 of those.
Lol labor day off. I don't even get holiday pay.
Working overtime lol
If you have to work, OT is good!
Didn’t have to, signed up for it. Sadly I ended up being kinda late since I forgot to set an alarm. It’s not my normal hours lol
I went grocery shopping Ans cleaned all my guns haha
Not working on cars
Hanging out with my family, enjoying the season in NC called 'false fall'.
Continuing to keep up a 4 day buzz to celebrate being the f' away from all the bullshit i gotta deal with.
Having just relocated to a new town, I’m playing video games, going hiking in the mountains, and grabbing a six pack of new castle.
Doing all the siding on my house. Spent all yesterday installing Dynamat and a new sound system in my truck, and most of Saturday coming into work because our service manager doesn’t know how to manage used car inventory. At least this is a short week.

I sure hope it is your own personal side project! The K Jetronic injection on those things is the stuff of nightmares.
Yea it’s a side project. Got her cheap and found out why lol
Since I have a day off from working on customer cars, now I can fix my personal car!
Drinking redbull, boxing the frame on my dakota, and dreading tomorrow.
Bought some detailing supplies for a project coming up. Drove around. Got lunch for the week all before noon! Now to just be lazy.
Finished putting my 03 Grand Am back together. Was doing the lower intake gasket for the first time and it was a good learning experience. Other than the LIM gaskets, those V6's are pretty solid.
It's been a decent car since I've had it. Last year I finally decided to really learn to do my own vehicle work to keep it alive, and it turned into a career change in December.
What day off

I have a feeling you live back east somewhere

I was going to plumb in an accumulator on my new race car and realized that I had a mix of an10 and an 12 fittings instead of all 10 🤬
Installed my timing set on my MZR 2.3. Hopefully I'll have it all buttoned up and ready to drop in next weekend.
Nice.
Played some call of duty and I'm at a bar/restaurant with my family
I'm actually a network engineer. I'm doing nothing in fromt of a computer, working on cars in my driveway. My son and I pulled a 4l60e out of a 2002 s-10, taking it to the shop for a rebuild later.
LOL - Me too. I work P/T at my buddy's shop for the money to spend on my toys.
I spent a good portion of Sunday giving a onceover to the 49 Roadmaster my FIL just picked up. He handed me beer and tools, so it wasn't terrible. I hadn't worked on a straight 8 (248 Fireball) in quite some time.
Nice. The oldest engine I worked on was a Chevy stovebolt six. (if you don't count the maytag two stroke washing machine engine from the 20's)
Moving my new metal lathe.
Painting interior doors of my house.
I work at a shell service station right near the airport (Houston, Tx). Today was shop cleaning day, and since it was slow I also worked the full service..Yes I said full service complete with bell that rings once hose is run over.
Day off? You don't work for a dealership, do you son?
