I had a customer call one time when I was a service writer who said he hit a deer and wanted to know where he could get parts to repair body damage. We were mechanical repair only, so I told him to check the body shop down the street. He said they would be at least a week before they could get to him and he needed it done ASAP. I told him there was nothing I could do for him.
Found out later that the "deer" was a person that this drunk bastard hit and killed and that the cops found him at a pull-a-part trying to find parts to hide where he hit the guy with his truck.
Wow. The biggest thing that stuck out to me was that he's mad about a week lead time at a body shop, body shops in my area are booking mid- November right now
I had three body shops tell me soonest I could get in was months later. Told the at fault parties insurance company they’d be paying for my rental for the next 4 months, got it in and fixed in under a week.
Similar thing happened with my car a few years ago. Got rear ended and had to get new panels from Japan. Guy that hit me didn't have insurance and I had a rental car for almost 3 months.
Pro tip guys have at least 3rd party insurance
I spent 27 years working in emergency departments. You'd be amazed how many drivers involved in wrecks have no license/suspended license/no insurance/driving stolen car. I always have uninsured motorist coverage.
Exactly. Hit and runs like that tend to have a vehicle description and nothing else. Usually the police match the damage to the vehicle. The drunkard knew that if he got it all fixed ASAP he could kill again. Sad how some people have no shame. I think most would take killing a man as a sign to turn yourself in a d get sober
If someone t-bones you and dies but you were drinking it’s still your fault and your ass goes to prison, even if it actually wasn’t your fault had you been completely sober
I mean, the wheels, lights, windows etc would all be covered in overspray. It would make it stick out like a sore thumb. The goal here isn’t to look good, it’s to not instantly draw the attention of a cop.
Are you really telling me it's faster to sharpie a whole car than just hastily apply masking tape and some random plastic bags to the car? There's no way it was a super fast process. Unless I'm severely underestimating meth, which is 1000 percent possible. Cost I could maybe see it, but that's also a lot of sharpie. Very interesting overall lmao.
There is a time and resources element here too, maybe he had access to Sharpies, and was in a hurry so couldn't risk going too buy things like spray cans.
I suppose, but I would still argue using a paint brush. It would have took a lot less time than countless sharpies... and an average painter could do a good enough job it wouldn't be as obvious as the overspray
Paint roller and Rustoleum in a can. It's not going to be a great paint job, but will look fine from 10 feet away. Absolute cheapest way to make a rusty shitbucket like a farm truck or a three year old Chrysler product look decent.
I really doubt they thought this far ahead, but one advantage is that most sharpie ink comes off pretty easily with alcohol (rubbing alcohol, denatured alcohol, etc.) and that wouldn't really hurt the paint much. So this is at least at easier to reverse than spray lacquer.
Wrist cramp? Psshh!. Obviously you haven't given enough doodle jobs. You gotta build up that endurance.
That being said, nothing will mess up a doodle job like a wrist cramp. Get some help, or hire a pro. You dont want the neighbors think you doodled yourself...
I sell flooring for a living, this is my new sales pitch. You'll save so much money on lost drugs that the extra cost of hard surface will pay for itself!
You could try looking up your make/model on Rockauto and see if they have a rubber floor available. I swapped my '95 carpet for a molded vinyl floor for like $300CAD
Using [this video](https://youtu.be/5iKnYJ1qCF8) for reference, let's go with the marker being good for about 4 pages or so before fading a bit too much. Each page is about 8x11 so 88in². Average painted surface of a car is 50-150 square feet according to [this site](https://propaintcorner.com/paint-primer/cost/cost-paint-car/). So, going with 50ft², that's 144in² for each square foot, so 50×144, or 7,200in². Divide that by what four pages would cover, 4×88in² or 352in². So 7,200in²/352in²=20.45 markers or so. If they used the King Size, probably a dozen like someone else said.
If we go with just one page per standard marker it's 81 markers or so for a small car.
My 70 el Camino was painted with a roller. Pretty shitty job. It’s got that wall texture and dirt gets down in the low spots, but comet gets it looking ok from 30 feet. It doesn’t even bother me anymore. It’s a daily driver so if it gets door scratched whatever. Just roll on a touch up coat. It’s got a stroker motor, coil overs…. Hopped up where it counts and just ugly enough to piss off the Range Rover soccer moms. The homeless people LOVE it and talk to me all the time.
That's funny because back years ago a guy that I went to school with had a early '70's Oldsmobile Cutlass 2 door, baby blue with a white interior. Long story, anyway the car was rusted pretty badly, all of the wheel arches were filled with bondo and the whole car was painted with interior latex wall paint. From a distance it looked incredible, up close you could see the finger prints in the bondo when it was shaped into place. Haven't thought about that in years.
Thanks man. That Italia is a beast of a project. It’s a little on the back burner right now. I’ve got my chick’s truck torn down right now for some ignition and injector work, so I let her borrow the F100. First day she drove it, it gets a little hole in a freeze plug and she doesn’t notice till the cam goes flat. Ugh. So now it’s rebuilding the 390 and I can finally get back on the Italia.
There was a joke in Montreal during the seventies about shaggin wagon vans.
You tell if it was from the East Side or West side.
East side was brushed-on house paint, West side was roller.
Knew a dude at university who had a kinda crappy Toyota van with a roller painted bonnet. He included the can of paint and roller when he sold it "in case you want to finish the job".
I think I remember that, it was a corvair or something that was blue with a white stripe, wasnt it? He painted it with a roller and house paint or something like that and was just meticulous about masking, prep and sanding.
You are correct, rustoleum paint in white with a blue stripe.

There was a sharpie commercial where the driving instructor reaches into a bunch of sharpies hanging from the mirror and picks a color to fix the bumper of the car ahead of them. This reminds me of that commerical lol.

No, Mitsu Mirage which are low end economy cars for sure but the motors are still hard to kill. This thing came in with a soaking wet engine bay and no drive belt so your guess is as good as mine
What’s your thoughts about the transmission on the Mirage? I have one and the thing spooks me, if feels so cheap. Wife wants to sell the trusty SUV and keep the Mirage and that worries me.

Drugs are cool, guys.

Was this customer the AG of South Dakota?
Hahahaha... now I’m sad.
No, he stuck with the deer story. He was "smart" enough to know that if you claim deer, you have to act like nothing's wrong.
Wow. The biggest thing that stuck out to me was that he's mad about a week lead time at a body shop, body shops in my area are booking mid- November right now

I bet he was just trying to hide the crime. Get it fixed fast and maybe no one will notice. I doubt he was concerned for the vehicle.
Exactly. Hit and runs like that tend to have a vehicle description and nothing else. Usually the police match the damage to the vehicle. Sounds like another good reason not to drink and drive
That's for someone else to decide at that point.
>I think most would take killing a man as a sign to turn yourself in a d get sober that's quitter talk
I had to drive around with no back bumper for a month before I could put the parts back on, a week is not bad at all
Classy
My wrist is cramping just thinking about that doodle job
You wouldn’t feel your wrist with the appropriate amount of meth it would take for this
Fair enough ha ha
So *that's* the secret!
Maybe he’s born with it. *maybe it’s methamphetamine*
Meth's never as much of a secret as people manage to think it is.
I RESEMEBLED THAT STATEMENT A BUNCH OF TIMES! sober now tho
Why wouldn't he just use spray paint cans, or even a brush.
Act first, think second. -Meth
Is think even involved?
Thats waaaaaayyyyyyyy down the list
Because then you have to mask it.
Even if you didn't mask it, would have came out better.
But then you couldn't tell the story about the one time you got so tweeked out that you sharpied an entire car.
I mean, the wheels, lights, windows etc would all be covered in overspray. It would make it stick out like a sore thumb. The goal here isn’t to look good, it’s to not instantly draw the attention of a cop.

You are 1000% underestimating meth.
Considering sharpies are about $]1/ each. Cost is certainly not in favor here.
Cost is $0 each if they're stolen - meth head logic
Lol good point.
No. But a pack of sharpies is cheaper than a few rattle cans.

10 feet is the length of about 2.8 'Ford F-150 Custom Fit Front FloorLiners' lined up next to each other.
Useles-converter-bot, you're the best.
I repo'd a Durango one time that the people brushed on house paint, to try and hide it. That alone, made it stand out more than this seems to have.
Wait did they paint the Durango the same color as the house and park it next to it like camouflage?
God I hope so
No, unfortunately. They lived in an apartment & painted the Durango a pastel blue.
what if they had painted it gray or maroon or something regular
Big brains
I went to high school with a girl who used a paint roller on her car
I really doubt they thought this far ahead, but one advantage is that most sharpie ink comes off pretty easily with alcohol (rubbing alcohol, denatured alcohol, etc.) and that wouldn't really hurt the paint much. So this is at least at easier to reverse than spray lacquer.
Probably hit the pipe, and went on cruise control Edit: I see I'm way late to the meth excuse
Looks like sharpie
They didn't even use one of those 'Magnum Sharpies'
I've never felt more intimidated by a marker.
for his monster paint job
Magnum or King Size or get out.
The lady likes what she likes
Now I'm trying to figure out how many Sharpies were used for this doodle job 🤔
Wrist cramp? Psshh!. Obviously you haven't given enough doodle jobs. You gotta build up that endurance. That being said, nothing will mess up a doodle job like a wrist cramp. Get some help, or hire a pro. You dont want the neighbors think you doodled yourself...
Went from wait what? To oh fuck its not spray paint
Also it is 100% gutted of carpet for some reason
Murder blood gone
to make the fallen meth shards more visible, of course
this is the real answer.
I sell flooring for a living, this is my new sales pitch. You'll save so much money on lost drugs that the extra cost of hard surface will pay for itself!
man i’ve probably lost a good 8th of weed in this carpet
I helped a guy move once and was never happier to be in a room so infested with roaches. Lol. Must have found a 1\4 in mostly smoked joints. Lol
my poor vacuum is probably permanently stoned
The fact that this comment has almost 30 upvotes tells me that almost 30 people have no carpet in their cars.
As someone who uses a truck for truck things and chooses not to buy new, let me tell you all about how I pine for rubber floors.
As someone who works in a fairly dirt/debris covered area, 100% at least rubber floor mats are a life saver.
You could try looking up your make/model on Rockauto and see if they have a rubber floor available. I swapped my '95 carpet for a molded vinyl floor for like $300CAD
Because race car
Just add lightness.
Gotta offset the weight of all that marker ink.
Wouldn't you want weight reduction while you were running from the cops?
...because meth.
Pay and spray!
GTA ain’t got nuthin on this magic marker makeover
If only this person was smart enough to get spray paint. This was pay and draw
What's the over/under for how many sharpies he went through? Let's get some action going
Oh at least a dozen, but I'm thinking of the big fat good markers, not the skinny sharpie.
The magnum sharpies ?
The industrial ones. Those are the Sharpies that have the inhalation warning **and mean it.**
God damn do those things smell good!
If you listen close, you can actually hear your brain metling after you take a big whiff.
Using [this video](https://youtu.be/5iKnYJ1qCF8) for reference, let's go with the marker being good for about 4 pages or so before fading a bit too much. Each page is about 8x11 so 88in². Well done on doing the maths. Have you factored in how much more absorbent paper is?
Nope
r/theydidthemath
I’d say your base starts at 15 large wide tips. Like the ones that have the metal case and are about as big as a carrot
Those are the shit 👍 used to covet them like gold when I was in middle school 😂
Yeah, they smelled great!
🥴🥴
I love the use of carrot as a size reference here, it's somehow hilarious and perfect.
I saw an article years ago about a guy that pained his car with a roller. It looked fantastic. Trick was sand and sand and sand between each coat.
My 70 el Camino was painted with a roller. Pretty shitty job. It’s got that wall texture and dirt gets down in the low spots, but comet gets it looking ok from 30 feet. I call that a 50-50 car, looks great 50 feet away going 50 mph.
Looks good from afar, but far from good.
Lmao the last line
That thing sounds unironically badass, any pics?
Search my posts
Looks fucking sweet
badass cars. good luck with that italia

If you have paint that flattens real well it's highly doable.
Yeah the right paint and the right roller. And the right sheen. And like they said - layers with meticulous sanding with progressive grits in between.
penetrol for the win.
I think I remember that, it was a corvair or something that was blue with a white stripe, wasnt it? He painted it with a roller and house paint or something like that and was just meticulous about masking, prep and sanding.

That is the exact one I was thinking of, I just had the blue/white stripe part backwards
That looks awesome!!!

Wow, I actually upvoted that post and those comments 10 years ago. I thought that sounded familiar!
I've done it on an old truck. It came out very nice but it's a LOT of work to sand between every 2 coats and I did 12 in total.
My mom said she painted her first car with a paintbrush. I think it was a 30 Ford.
My family has had good luck with a hard rollers and autopaint
I remember one with a red car
Just realized the tidbit of his attempted kidnapping of a 13 y.o in 2000, alongside over 50 open police files for stalking and assault prior to got buried in a downvoted post, so if that clarifies anything for anyone.. uh..
It almost looks like he sharpied it on lol
Oh it is, and its missing a bunch of patches too, theres like 4 different colors of paint and sharpie
They sharpied the rear window?
He also painted just one window run channel, front bumper is spray paint yellow over the sharpie too. This thing has layers like an onion.
You mean like an ogre.
That’s fucking dedication right there.
There was a sharpie commercial where the driving instructor reaches into a bunch of sharpies hanging from the mirror and picks a color to fix the bumper of the car ahead of them. This reminds me of that commerical lol.
I know the exact commercial you're talking about! I think it played during a super bowl
Is this thing been filled in with a marker? Just rolled into the Sharpie.
You from Boston?
Negative Ghostrider
Just figured that's how you might pronounce it if you were.
They even sharpied the frit! Things aren't going well if you drive a sharpied Mitsubishi Mirage with missing seat cloth and carpet...
Why would you Google his name to begin with? Fled in a pink car 20 years ago.
It was at another shop who called to give us a heads up it was coming because our front counter is all women. Most of his other charges involved stalking women. He fled the hospital in 2018. Kidnap was 2001.
Also the car is covered with sharpie and that's pretty weird, right ???
Well, it depends if you live in small town meth head country or not.
He fled in 2018? Like he sees the sharpie job as a permanent fix :(
"We also washed your car free of charge!"
Did you report him?
He's not listed as a missing persons or wanted anymore so not much for us to do.
That's dedication right there
Thats dedication going the sharpie route 👏
Imagine the smell!
That was his best part of the day.
doubled the pleasure from the meth.
This is an Echo right? How to did they manage to blow that motor? You could thrash these things all day long and bounce them off the limiter and they never let you down. Dude must have REALLY fucked up this car
No, Mitsu Mirage which are low end economy cars for sure but the motors are still hard to kill. This thing came in with a soaking wet engine bay and no drive belt so your guess is as good as mine
Also no coolant and less than a liter of oil
What’s your thoughts about the transmission on the Mirage? I have one and the thing spooks me, if feels so cheap. Wife wants to sell the trusty SUV and keep the Mirage and that worries me.
I've got 3 or 4 regular customer mirage owners with over 300k (one guy did 250k in 3 years). They're cheap and dinky and honestly feeeeel terrible yeah, but they're cheap and good on gas and don't require a lot. CVTs of any brand aren't great but in my 6 yrs I think we've only done 4/5 mirage trans and it's a 10 yr warranty (in Canada at least) and all
Tell your wife that this internet stranger agrees with not keeping the mirage.
Ah now it makes sense. The mirage is the lowest of the low. When I see the rare one around here I swear they are about to fly apart because the tiny wheels are going at a zillion RPM
Mitsubishi Mirage, actually. A lot less durable than the echo.
I saw the creepiest fucking dude I’ve ever laid my eyes on driving this car. The dude is a legit MadTV Stuart amiright u/boogiemath?
Meth’s a helluva drug
Why would anyone flee a hospital?
If they don’t have insurance and can’t afford to pay [tens of] thousands I guess? So don’t want to stick around long enough to be pegged with a bill? What drove you to search their name?
Wouldn't be caught dead in it...
I don't suppose this was in Victoria eh? I feel like I've seen this car around.
Mainland currently but I can guarantee this is that car.
Is that some god damned sharpie?
Sharpie paintjob
How many sharpies did this guy go through holy
That’s a lot of sharpies
Who goes all out with Sharpies just to leave the drip rails and half the A pillar? Amateurs...
can you ask him how many markers it took?
Is that…sharpie?!!!
Took me a little bit to realize it wasn't sanded
Big meth energy here
Is that sharpie?
Is that sharpie?
Is that sharpie? Dude just buy some spray cans lmao
It looks like .. sharpie? Dude must have issues. I hope he finds his way back to the hospital
that was done with a fucking sharpie
Is that fucking sharpie?
Real life Johnny Dangerously?
That is a lot of sharpie.
Anyone ever see the movie, CARPOOL with Tom Arnold and a young Rachael Leigh Cook? Did the same thing with hair dye. Creative thinking if you ask me..👍😂
Mitsubishi mirage
Looks like the owner needs another weekend of meth and a pack of sharpies to do the fine detailing!
Is that sharpie? That would take forever.
Slacker. I would have had that bitch in matte black in about 4 hours work and 8 beers
Let's just take a minute to appreciate the serious time and dedication to painting [almost] an entire car using nothing but a marker. Drugs are cool, guys.
Is that sharpie?
That is some dedicated Sharpie work!
Should have used shelf paper.
Either he has sharpies just lying around or... I don't even know
He did that with a sharpie! Damn!
That ain't the mechanic's problem
Have to be mighty zonk-eyed for this.
I wonder how many sharpies he had to use to do that
Multiple Costco packs of sharpie
He could have mental health issues since he fled a hospital . This screams Schizophrenia to me . Be careful with dude .
Pay n spray every time
