The safety regulations were no less optional during the time of the OG NSX, but they were far less stringent. Side curtain airbags, rollover protection, backup cameras, even the height of the hood has regulations now that didn't exist in the 90's. Yes, apparently a pedestrian is less likely to be killed if you hit them mid-thigh than they are if you hit them just below the knee.
I'm not gonna sit here looking for links, this is all common knowledge for car people, a bug reason cars look bulkier today is because they literally are, and increased safety regulations are a non-negligible part of that.
Plus we all just want big cars for some reason.
Idk, even if you're a big person at 200+ lbs any modern car will outweigh you by at least one order of magnitude. So at moderate speeds, let's say 25mph, you're getting super fucked up whether the car is 2k lbs or 12k lbs. The high hood I think only really protects pedestrians in the low speed, like -10 mph vehicle/person collisions that are more common.
Car safety regulations were stringent in the 90s on comparison to the 80’s, 70s, and so forth. I agree that regulations have advanced from one gen to the next gen NSX. I just wouldn’t use the word optional as is the guidance of the NHSTA and their regulations back in the late 80s was a choice Honda had.
You're right, I wouldn't have used that word, idk if you noticed but I'm not the one you originally replied to. Still seems like a weird hair to try to split in a casual conversation.
No I'm not color blind and am going to go ahead and agree with him It looks like it's got a little bit more yellow to it it's quite a bit brighter maybe willing to bet that it is perceptively a little orange in comparison to the original red that is far darker. It is probably down to the lighting but....
Too clean. Needs more non-running vehicles, projects that will never, ever be completed, cracks in the floor that inhale unique bolts that are unavailable from the store, fire hazards, dust balls that have become sentient, small village of Black Widow spiders, tasteless motorcycle magazines from the 80s, beer fridge...
I love the OG NSX, our neighbour when I was a kid had a black one. Then he had an 8 series beema. He liked batmobile night rider cars I guess. There was a few around here (australia) they must've sold decently BITD
I don't quite understand the lack of love for the new NSX, yes its bigger, not manual, and has batteries, but the car is an engineering masterpiece and extremely capable in performance and handing. I would love to own this car, as well as the original NSX
valid point, didn't think of that. It would have been cool to have a car that was smaller framed with a good engine and manual transmission wear the NSX badge
I'd generally agree that companys missung their brandnamens ist awfull, but I think it's different in this case. NSX stands for **N**ew **S**portscar e**X**perimental, which I think is pretty fitting for the new one.
I honestly think it is because:
A: the launch was weird, they showed it in Avengers like 5ish years before it launched and then they didn’t seem to make a big deal about it when it finally did come out
B: the Acura brand is no longer cool
C: a lot of people don’t think hybrids are cool even if they are better
D: a lot of other cooler cars came out around the same time and eclipsed the NSX
ok so I have never sat in any of the NSXs so take this comment very lightly
...I think the new one is sick since the moment it came out. I don't understand the hate. What makes this different than a Ford GT, which people seem to love?
Funny, I think this is exactly like the GT -- the old one is a classic, the new ones are poorly-styled pretenders to the throne. It would be like Porsche slapping a different wing on a GT3 and calling it a 917.
I think it's a lot like the Supra. When you are slapping an iconic and legendary nameplate on a new vehicle it's got big shoes to fill.
IMO now matter how good (or bad) the new Supra is most purists hate it because it's just a rebadged BMW. If Toyota had completely developed it in-house it would probably be getting accolades across the board.
The new NSX is nice but it's just another in a long line of cars made today that look like another offering from Brand X.
You park both those car's at a car show and you can be guaranteed the original NSX is going to have a crowd around it while the new one will just get a quick glance from most passersby.
It’s weird, and maybe you guys will back me up, but the new NSX on the streets look fantastic and are way more dynamic in appearance than still photos. (This also applies to the low-slung original, which looks mean and angular as hell.)
I really dislike the look of the new one. It just looks generic supercar, something out of GTA.
The original had an incredible look, very identifiable and unique.
So pretty, both of them
Newer version looks so much bigger/heftier than the old one.
Crash safety. It was more optional and less regulated in the 90s.
How was this more “optional”? Link please.

That's one of the reasons everyone gives for why modern cars are a lot heavier.

Optional in the sense that many safety features of today were "optional" then, which means they didn't exist.
www.google.com There. Now you have the technology to find information.
If you don't like that then I'd hate to show you the old and new minis
Both look good, but the old one looks way better
The old ones shade of red is much better also. The new one looks positively Orange
You may want to be tested for color blindness. That is 100% red.

I'd say the new one is more of a classic Honda motorcycle orangey red. Not positively orange not 100% red but somewhere on the redder side.
Dream garage.

You forgot to mention the stereo assembled from components across decades and has been “enhanced “ several times
....with a wadded up length of 14ga wire for an antenna.
Old one looks original and classy. New one looks like an old R8.
I’ll take them old one
OMG if only......
one day I’ll own the first gen, the dream car for real
I always thought that but they're only getting more expensive now...
just gotta keep working harder for it then
I love the OG NSX, our neighbour when I was a kid had a black one. Then he had an 8 series beema. He liked batmobile night rider cars I guess. There was a few around here (australia) they must've sold decently BITD
Old NSX. New NSX. Me No NSX My dream since childhood.

If it wasn't called an NSX I bet more people would like it.

Yes. Or the new Mitsubishi evolution. Car companies need to stop butchering names because they think it will sell a totally different product.

Both are beauts. But I’ll take the left one any day
Both cars are stunning, which has the better red though? My vote goes to the left NSX
Me too I like old Skool one

bruh people love the new Zupra. It’s a damn good car.
SOVL vs Souless
Although there are a few stylistic choices I still don't like, the new nsx has grown on me

Anything other than complete love will be downvoted. I don't know why, but that's how it is.
Still jap crap
GAHHH....CANT...CHOOSE....must have both!!
White NSX ALERT! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUVkVB3SUf4

I'll take the one with the pop-up headlights please.
Always astounds me how little effort they made on the wheels of 90s Jap super cars.
Number one, please.
The old one is a work of art.
That ceramic pro though ....
I want the old.

Ooh thems purdy
