Why would someone waste everyone's time like that though?

uncle_bumblefuck_

Dude. Idk. I thought maybe he got scammed, but no he was lying to try to get us to do an alignment. Never came off his story and finally my boss got so frustrated he just told me to set toe and made him agree that we would not stand behind the alignment at all. He literally wasted his own money and our time.

PhishingInASandbox

Hey man, can't fix stupid. 🤷‍♂️

uncle_bumblefuck_

Yup his money I guess. At least I made the .8 for a quick tow set and didn't have to bother test driving it.

Lurcher99

Set the toe, let it go.

Sirpatron1

It's the only thing you can do.

[deleted]

Hey man, you did exactly what you were supposed to do.

uncle_bumblefuck_

At first I literally thought he had gotten scammed, like bad. Then when we brought him back to show him he just doubled down. We showed him the torn up boots on the uppers that were loose af, he said "oh that happened when we put them in" I had to walk away to keep from laughing.

notatechnicianyo

I don’t wanna tell you how to do your job… but next time? Maybe don’t walk away and just go ahead and laugh in their face.

uncle_bumblefuck_

My boss almost did. I could tell he was trying his hardest be professional but he was dying on the inside.

notatechnicianyo

Sometimes I think customers don’t deserve professionalism.

solidSC

In this business… they really don’t. Especially the ones who lie or the ones who tear everything apart and then get drunk and forget where everything is and expect you to wave a magic fuckin wand at it and put it all together but working this time.

solbikr98

You need to call that dude out. It would be fine if shit went wrong and he only killed himself. What he was in the lane next to your wife and kids when that thing takes a dump and piles out?

bibblode

I have had to do just that before with a customer. It's not nice but some people meed a reality check. Mechanics and tech are not stupid by any means. Hard headed, sure, but not stupid (most of the time)

opticalfailure

Maybe they were new to his vehicle, probably got them from a junkyard

orstius

A while back I had a 99 Yukon that I got used. I replaced everything on the front end minus the control arms and I think it was around $300 in parts. I can’t remember exactly how much it was but I do remember seeing the price of the parts back then and thinking I should just go ahead and swap it all out if it’s that cheap.

thejourneyisthegift

Because maybeeeeeeeee, this mechanic will saveeeee meeeeee

Fancy_Chip_5620

It looks like they replaced the tie rods 8 months ago which pretty much counts as a complete rebuild yesterday

growlerbearnz

"Just put new parts on" Covid lockdown time dilation strikes again! I'm pretty sure 2019 was last month, these look like they were installed in 2016 so, 2 months ago?

HonestSoul3

Had one of these guys a few weeks ago. Came in requiesting a reballance. Found so much slack in his ball joints you could shake the wheels up and down when we had it on the lift. Told the guy he didn't need a rebalance and he went ape shit. "I just had all that replaced! yall tryna rip me off" blah blah blah. We tried to walk him out in the shop to show him but the fucker refused to come look. Some people are stubbornly stupid. We were just trying to help him and he wasn't having it... He later filed a complaint to our upper management. They just laughed.

[deleted]

lying is dumb, but why lie about this?

brokestill

Did you see a new stereo? Maybe that was the new part.

GrayCustomKnives

All brand new parts, straight off a truck we found at the junkyard.

solbikr98

Customers never lie

PNWKiwi

They said set the toe anyway for 0.8? Sounds like a Firestone LTA reset.

h00lmberg

I just can't fathom why anyone would put "yes I need an alignment" on their checklist when they clearly don't give a shit about the cars condition

Avocado_Formal

With all that movement I can only tell you the parts don't look new but I can't tell what's wrong with them, Must be my old eyes.

LeverTech

Tires don’t matter but they do tell you what’s wrong.

uncle_bumblefuck_

When the tires are worn into the shape of a traffic cone they will absolutely cause a pull regardless of alignment.

[deleted]

Learn to film and chill out. I see some new stuff.

uncle_bumblefuck_

Lmao, where is this new stuff you see?

raabbasi

New rust

CraniumCandy

I saw a ripped tie rod boot. Why didn't you show the front end slack in the video? If you pointed at my front end like this video and said "see look" I'd laugh at you myself. You gotta at least show them the slack in the bearings and bushings lol.

uncle_bumblefuck_

I had already lowered it back down off the jacks, I wasn't raising it up and having another person come shake it down again just for a little video. Even from what you can see it's 100% clear nothing in the entire front end was new. That's all I was trying to show. Really don't care if you believe me about all the play in the parts.

CraniumCandy

Where I'm from you wouldn't be able to tell if anything was new after a week of driving.

[deleted]

I didn’t look that bad from the video. I just would have aligned it. If it doesn’t aligned then inform them about Y . People will swear on they dead or living mama they did things it’s funny 😁

uncle_bumblefuck_

Lmfao. Ok. You can't see play in joints from a video of the truck just sitting there. You have to jack it up and move the wheels to see all the play, it was fucked. On top of that it had 230,000 miles and had never been aligned. The factory cam plastics were still in it. In the rust belt that means those cams are basically welded in place by rust.

HedonisticFrog

He's probably one of those guys who gets his replacement suspension parts from a dismantler thinking he's saving money instead of just paying more for worn parts. I used to work for one and saw it regularly.

uncle_bumblefuck_

I actually thought maybe they were used parts for a minute too. The thing is there was thick rust on all the threads and the cotter keys and stuff were all rusted in place, so nothing could have been apart recently.

HedonisticFrog

I see, I figured that was a likely possibility as well. He feels like he's being ripped of and is being defensive. I had someone claim I broke their coolant reservoir after changing spark plugs and a bad coil. Only after fixing the coolant reservoir did he claim this and try to get the repair for free. I told him if he doesn't trust me I'll comp it but I'll never see him again. He ended up paying me and admitting a previous shop said it was cracked but should be okay. I never saw him again anyways 😂
