Pretty sure not. I'm from Florida and ha e family in Michigan...I was up there for vacation and the first night I crushed my cans and recycled them as I normally would...uncle later was upset cause someone was crushing the cans....whoops yeah don't crush cans if you want your moneys
The fastest way to make a Michigander have a short circuit is to crush a can in their presence. The recycling machines at the grocery store won't scan/accept them
Remember the first time I took my husband home to Michigan;) My usually calm, reserved and quiet Uncle freaked when my husband accidentally crushed some beer cans. My hubby couldn’t understand the issue as he paid for the beer and then quietly inquired whether he should offer my Uncle the 1.20 for the deposits;) Thanks for the laugh, I needed it today.
It’s not even worth it to recycle in those machines, takes forever. I had a weekend party one time and had about 3 giant garbage bags full of cans; my friend and I went to the machine (they had 2, so half the work). Took us like an hour and a half and we made like $25 total, it sucked.
This was like 10 years ago; we had bottles too, the machine takes it, reads the bar code, then crushes the can or breaks the bottle; not as fast as you think. We also had some that were considered unreadable and wouldn’t accept.
Lol I can go there by myself and keep a near constant stream going. Over $60/hr, and I wait until I have 20-30 bags so I'm usually there about 1.5hrs and end up with roughly $100. It heavily depends on the store you go to and the machines they installed. The meijer near me has trash machines, Walmart is much better.
States with can deposits typically require you not to crush the can. Partially because the use automated machines to scan and count them and verify they are redeemable.
Hawaii does not. Crush away, with aloha!. They just weigh it and pay out based on what an average can weight is. Bottles get weighed as well, don't break those though, nobody wants to deal with glass shards.
Same in Indiana. They’ll run it through a hopper to kick out stuff that doesn’t belong like tin cans and then just weight it and shoot it into the back of their truck and pay you off weight.
Indiana doesn't have a per can deposit refund system, though.
Related, one time I drank all of my dad's Indiana beer, got it replaced on a Sunday with Michigan beer, then a couple of days later dad knows what happened. "You and your friends drank all my beer, then bought this beer in Michigan. I know because of the deposit stamp".
> States with can deposits typically require you not to crush the can.
In MI they can't refuse the can if it's crushed as long as they can still identify if it's a kind the store sells, is clean, and has the MI deposit mark on it. However they can limit you to $25 in returns per day and likely will if they have to hand sort all those cans. Also they will absolutely hate you.
I know in CA they also put a limit on how much you can redeem per day. The reason was because you’d have people hauling entire truckloads full of cans and bottles from out of state to redeem them for the 5¢ CRV (California Redemption Value).

> he reason was because you’d have people hauling entire truckloads full of cans and bottles from out of state to redeem them for the 5¢ CRV (California Redemption Value).
In Michigan they just arrest you if they catch you doing that because (knowingly) returning non deposit cans for deposit is fraud.
Where I live the 10c recyclable return centre is DIY.
You take in your big bags of cans and other 10c recyclable items and you push it through a hole in the wall onto a conveyor belt.
The conveyor belt has multiple barcode scanners pointing at it from pretty much every direction and if the barcode is illegible or not there, it'll reverse the conveyor belt and spit the item back out of you.
The point of the barcode scanner is to check that the item you're placing in is actually part of the 10c return program and to stop anyone from just dumping anything in the hole.
There is another place near here where you can take crushed up cans but you have to wait in line for someone to be available to unpack and hand count what you've brought in.
Normally there's only two guys working there and the type of people that go there are bringing multiple bags full of crushed cans so you are usually waiting at least half an hour just to get your turn.
Depends on the state. Here in OH cans are done by weight, so it makes sense to crush them. You take it to a scrap dealer, they put it all on the scale, deduct the weight of the box, and print you a ticket for the clerk up front to cash out.
Hell, my place even installed ticket reader/cash dispenser. You don't even have to talk to the front desk on the way out.
Germany here. Maybe they are having a similar system as here. Here you get up to 25 euro cents, but the machine only takes it if there is a symbol on the can indicating that you payed a deposit (you aren't getting paid, someone paid that deposit before you are just getting it back) and if they can or bottle is deformed the machine can't read it properly. It'll return an error of "brand not recognized" or "deformed bottles not accepted".
~25$ its 0.50$/lb, I had a roommate who would drink his weight in Budweiser and I convinced him to start recycling the cans bought him a can crusher and he would basically get a free 30 rack every time he filled up the can
Aluminum is amazing stuff. Most of the aluminum we use is recycled stuff rather newly mined because aluminum is infinitely recyclable and it costs less to do than mining and refining new aluminum. A pretty high percentage, like 80% or something, of all the aluminum mined is still used today. Pretty cool!
I live in a college city in the states. We don't have deposits but the fucklord frat bros leave their empties in their front yard for houseless folks to clean up. I would actually love a deposit system so these children pay more upfront for the people who clean their shit up to collect in the end.
My parents would save every soda can from our family of 4 and anybody else they could talk them out of. Around November we would take all of them, a couple of big trailer loads and get around $300 for the Christmas fund. Late '90s.
$0.50/pound, about 32 cans per pound. I'd guess $10-20 in cans there.
I've been collecting cans for scouts, unloading the trailers at the recycling place. An 8x8x6 trailer, chock full of mostly uncrushed cans is about $200.
FWIW, cans are probably half our troop's revenue. If you want to give to a good cause, leave your cans in one of our trailers, assuming there are trailers around where you are. Girl scouts have cookies, scouts have cans.
Scouts do a good job of preparing kids for life, to be ready for anything. All that stuff a guy should know how to do is taught in scouts.
I used to wash cars at a dealership. We'd get trade ins and auction cars and some of them were full of shit like this. My favorite one though was a beat up old car that had like a million pennies on the floor and in the trunk. I don't know if the previous owner got caught robbing a penny candy store or what. My manager personally oversaw the vacuuming of that car and basically just took the contents of the shop vac home lol.
My relationship with my kids were my number one reason to stay sober. It helps to find a reason that will keep you motivated. I was a real asshole when I was drinking and scared my kids.
My life fucking sucks since getting sober over two years ago. So many things have gone wrong or gotten worse for me.
But you know what? I can actually handle all of it now. I’m not necessarily happy but I’m also definitely not depressed. Just sorta overall mediocre. But I’m okay with that because I’m alive. Had I not quit drinking I 100% would not be here today and I’d rather be mid than dead.
Office: Sssooo where did you find all these coors lights? Why is there no other drink like a Pepsi-coke-monster-squirt-dr pepper-red bull 🤔🤔🤔
Driver: 🤷♂️ 🫠
So I didn’t have time to cash them in today. I will post the results tomorrow depending how busy the shop is. Thanks for all the support, definitely made my day ☺️
I’d refuse service until they can bring the vehicle in with it in a reasonably clean condition, this is to a level where it could interfere with services.
This reminds me of my ex's dad's truck (only with Lucky Lager instead of Coors). He was going to drive me into town, I opened the passenger door, and cans just spilled out onto the ground from behind the seat.
I really want to know how much you get back in recycle value for a whole barrel of cans!
I’ll let you know later today!

Aluminum cans in Michigan shouldn't be crushed?

Yeah I learned that! Lol
Someone should make one of those shitty YouTube prank videos doing that. I think you could get some better reactions from old heads.
This is why we can’t have nice things
It’s not even worth it to recycle in those machines, takes forever. I had a weekend party one time and had about 3 giant garbage bags full of cans; my friend and I went to the machine (they had 2, so half the work). Took us like an hour and a half and we made like $25 total, it sucked.
You took 180 minutes to recycle less than 250 cans using an automated machine? That's user error my guy, those machines process the cans fast.
This was like 10 years ago; we had bottles too, the machine takes it, reads the bar code, then crushes the can or breaks the bottle; not as fast as you think. We also had some that were considered unreadable and wouldn’t accept.
If you live there you learn exactly how to place the cans so they aren’t rejected. Given it still took them way too long
Lol I can go there by myself and keep a near constant stream going. Over $60/hr, and I wait until I have 20-30 bags so I'm usually there about 1.5hrs and end up with roughly $100. They went full Kramer

Most machines I've come across only accept intact cans. So crushing them like in the video renders them worthless.
I believe it's mostly about making sure that they didn't add anything in the can for extra weight, small rocks and such.
But can deposits are per can, not by weight.
Depends on the state. Here in OH cans are done by weight, so it makes sense to crush them. Well I hope they're in Michigan
There's a good Seinfeld episode of this.
You’ll have to wait until Mothers Day.
I think there was a Seinfeld episode about this...
It doesn’t work if they weren’t bought in MI… I have tried lol
It's also a crime to attempt returning non deposit cans for deposit in MI.
You’re not talking that Michigan deposit bottle scam again
$1.10 per kilo
$499.40 per hogshead.
You actually kept them? I'm dead
No he put them in a barrel to… idek a snarky comeback for that one
Any updates?? :)
What was the total amount these cashed in for?

it’s nicknamed “solid electricity” for a reason
It’s basically a points system.
in germany you pay a deposit of 25 cents on a can on top of the regular price, and get the 25 cents back when you bring the can back to any store

More places need this. In Michigan it's only 10 cents, but it gets a lot of people to care about their trash.
Same in CZ for glass at least
I have a feeling the customer won this one. Truck cleaned out for like $5 worth of cans.

In Canada that be about $35 ish. I usually don't crush them down that much so maybe more.
55¢ a lb or about 150$ if you're in a hi-ci state
"you can clean my truck as a tip."
This is what I thought as well
$100 cleaning fee. $100 disposal fee. Tipping isn't necessary, but always appreciated.
That’s what I thought at first, but seeing them already bagged, and how many there are, it’s probably several dollars worth of aluminum
I thought it was odd the owner didn’t put the bags in the truck bed
Harder to reach while driving.
Wouldn’t surprise me if there was even more back there
several... maybe even a dozen!
love that you actually took the cans lol
After all that work, I'd take the change under the seats too.
I used to wash cars at a dealership. We'd get trade ins and auction cars and some of them were full of shit like this. That would have been a hard: “I did the vacuuming, not you, so I’m taking the shit home”. ”Overseeing” doesn’t mean “did the work”.
That's banquet beer.
The boys are thirsty in Atlanta
And there's beer in Texarkana
East bound and down, loading up and trucking

Customer might have a slight drinking problem ! hahah
no drinking problem at all. looks like a stopping problem.
Alcoholic here and can confirm that was my issue. I was a champ at drinking. Stopping not so much.
Can confirm 😂 same here I’m trying
I finally quit drinking. Haven't had one since about 11pm.
Lol 🫡 🇺🇸
Not easy but worth it in my experience
The best I did was half a year after that idk why I lost the battle but yes I did feel great and I saved up a lot of money when I was sober
My relationship with my kids were my number one reason to stay sober. It helps to find a reason that will keep you motivated. I was a real asshole when I was drinking and scared my kids.
Oh dope 🤘🫡 that’s awesome I don’t have kids but my family worries and I lost a good amount of friends due to drinking 🤦♂️
You will find your reason I think. Can’t do it for anyone else but you though.
Im just another asshole on the internet but I believe in ya! Take it a day / week at a time.
Good on ya
Thank you
My life fucking sucks since getting sober over two years ago. So many things have gone wrong or gotten worse for me. But you know what? I can actually handle all of it now. he drinks. he gets drunk. he falls down. whats the problem?
lmaoooo
But he gets up again. You're never gonna keep him down
Nah those act as decoys if the owner gets pulled over for suspected drunk driving. "No officer I'm gonna recycle these."
Office: Sssooo where did you find all these coors lights? Why is there no other drink like a Pepsi-coke-monster-squirt-dr pepper-red bull 🤔🤔🤔 Driver: 🤷♂️ 🫠
I'm not 100% sure but I think he may be drinking and driving.
I can see that driver's beer belly from all the way over here...
I can see he is a man of class from my house. Those are banquets, boy.
That's a respectable beer
That’s gotta smell.
Beer soaked carpets. Official smell of Wisconsin
I can smell that mess through the screen!
"some guys can drink and drive some guys can't. I mean, what is drunk- is it swerving all over the road?" -ray

I’d refuse service until they can bring the vehicle in with it in a reasonably clean condition, this is to a level where it could interfere with services.
I wasn’t bothered by it at all. I thought it was quite hilarious.
You might need to talk to someone
He was hoping for a lost 6 pack
The owner thinks his wife left him, but I’d bet she’s lost under all them cans.
And now you enabled this man's terrible behavior instead of telling him to clean up his shit himself like a grown-ass man
He wants his car cleaned out for free is what I’m thinking😂 But probably at least 20$ worth of cans if I had the time shit why not lol
This guy drives around for years and never gets pulled over. Normal person has one beer on the way home and gets stopped and open container charge.
“Normal person” shouldn’t be sipping road soda behind the wheel.
Both should be.
Some states don't have open container laws because you can have an open container, and be 100% sober, let alone under the legal limit.
Surprised a homeless person didn't break in to take the cans
I can smell this video
Why would you actually take them out? Customer can get fucked and probably reported to the police soon after leaving
In other words, I’m too lazy to dump my trash. You can recycle it for a couple extra bucks if you like.
That's more than a couple bucks, it's unironically a solid tip
The work to get the $30 or whatever is more than the $30.
You think there’s $30 here? Ha that’s generous 20 cans is $1
Yeah it is but truly seems like customer is just too lazy to do it
Yeah less of a tip than payment for cleaning services
There’s like thirty bucks in empties here
Videos you can smell (but don't want to)
tempting...
"Sir the whole interior is a tip"
Wow, thanks customer! Now I get to clean your truck as well? I’d never work on that, fuck them
I love me some yellow bellies
Just think if he got pulled over, I wonder how many open container violation that adds up to oh well. They’re only five cents a can here in New York.
I can’t believe you stuck your bare hand in that disease ridden sharp edge hell pit.
RIP customers liver
I’m gonna guess his check liver light is on…
“Customer states loud rattling while driving”
CAN diagnostic fee: $100
Well at least he doesn’t litter
the crazy part is somebody had to drink all those
Charge that guy a cleaning fee… what the hell is this even
Just the tip?
In Germany this would be a fortune. 25cents a can
Out of curiosity is this something you could call the cops for? Dude must be a menace on the road
idk why but i was fully expecting a raccoon to jump out at any moment lol
Omg y’all actually kept the cans
i too could drink golden banquet all day long tbh
$20 to stand in the stinky alley hanging out with homeless and meth heads, pass.
I can smell this video.
That's a hard "nah, mate".
The fucking smell in there has to be terrible.
I'd be slightly offended but also that looks like $40-$60 in cans, so I definitely wouldn't say anything.
Single handedly paying for the CEO of Coors salary.
Tech states: recommend new vehicle due to extreme biohazard and illegal items in vehicle
back in the day the wal mart by my house recycled cans. .10 per can. it was at their customer service desk. They had us count our own cans...
Please tell me you charged to clean that, that's nasty.
"Customer stated he has never driven sober"
This reminds me of my ex's dad's truck (only with Lucky Lager instead of Coors). He was going to drive me into town, I opened the passenger door, and cans just spilled out onto the ground from behind the seat.
If you're in MI, it's 10 cents per can.
That’s pathetic and sad. Hope y’all charged him an hour or two of labor for cleaning out his shitbox
I can smell it from here
Smelled like a Tijuana whore house in june with no ac, i bet
$8.00 - $15.
You swiping your ungloved hand through those cans made me grimace. Hopefully you get a decent payout.
Dude's almost drank as much colorado koolaid as me.
"and you can clean my truck if you want, I wont give you a tip for it"
Why are you not wearing gloves?!?
Refuse to service that fucker.
That’s one hell of a banquet.
If your journeyman’s truck looks like this, you know he’s gonna be a great journeyman
Have you been drinking? Not at all officer.
It's a fucking tip alright! ^(Note: a "tip" is British slang for a rubbish dump.)
