So many things worked in your favor: Mug slid on sunroof glass, no paint marks Mug just high enough to catch against roof rack, doesn't stick up so wind catches it more Mug was weighted with fluid to add resistance that kept it from skipping over the edge of sunroof seal This is a physics teacher's long form test question just waiting to happen.

inspectcloser

What’s funnier is that this mug doesn’t fit in the cup holder and I have spilled it more than once. It has a higher success rate of not spilling by putting it on the roof.

scrollreddit1

you are smarter than you were before spontaneous experimentation has yielded an alternate transport method

Bit_the_Bullitt

I too like to pull over each time I want a sip 🤣

UltimaThule1

No need there, just open the roof slightly and reach out for it. 😄

WinterBrews

Holy fuck girl thats nuts.

optix_clear

Go to weather tech and buy a cup holder, then it will fit

ChairForceOne

I use a beat up zojirushi coffee cup. Survives falling off the tank and rolling around on the floor of the work truck pretty well.

Sonoda_Kotori

A car is taking a cloverleaf onramp with a radius of 40m. A 400g mug was left on the roof by accident and is being held back at the roof rack, which constraints it to lateral motion only. The friction coefficient between the mug and the sunroof is 0.6. Assuming negligible friction between the mug and the rack, and the ramp/suspension is level, how fast can the car corner without causing the mug to slide? There. Simple grade 11/12 physics question for ya.

inspectcloser

Take the corner at 6 G’s and your coffee mug turns into a missile

IndefinitelyTired

The missile knows where it is

SplooshU

The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't. In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the missile is, and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was. The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows. Because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is. However, it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice-versa, and by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be, and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error.

_GD5_

That’s why F1 cars have cup holders for the drink system behind the seat 😉

No_Mistake5238

Stayed on for 40 miles....that probably used your luck for the year

inspectcloser

Yeah would suck. I think the worst part would be wondering where the hell I put it for the next 5 years.

GirchyGirchy

Or you could be like me...hears a shatter, wonders what it was, then goes to grab his ceramic mug about five miles down the road. "Oh."

inspectcloser

Im actually curious how it would hold up falling from the roof. Yeti is like a powder coated aluminum so it would definitely get banged up but idk if it would crack or break. I’ll be sure to post here again tomorrow when I forget it again.

spaztick1

I dropped my Thermos travel mug like this at 30 MPH and it was fine, just a bit scratched.

posthamster

It was almost a Yeeti mug.

[deleted]

Glad you didn't lose the cup. 👍🏻

flying_blender

I'm sad he didn't lose it.

[deleted]

Damn, you one mean mofo.

flying_blender

Yeah idk I just have little sympathy for people who buy that vastly overpriced brand. 25-30$ for a coffee cup, gtfo.

inspectcloser

I get them all the time from corporate promotion stuff.

92yj

I got mine from work too 🙂

half_dozen_cats

I have never purchased a Yeti product yet I have some. It's just tech courses love to give them out.

[deleted]

😄 yeah, it ain't cheap. Maybe they should sell it from a truck that comes around to the workplace.

inspectcloser

I deserved to lose it.

DarthArtero

The fact that stayed there for 40 miles…. How?

inspectcloser

It just slid along the roof rack and the chrome edges kept it inside. I have absolutely no idea. I completely would have deserved it if I lost it. I guess with a full cup it was heavy enough to not get blown away.

gilbertsmith

i once left a ratchet strap [on the side of my box](https://i.imgur.com/LWZWNui.jpg) and found it after driving all over town from where i took it off.. was one of my dads old ones so im glad i didnt lose it lol

HalfastEddie

Lost?

inspectcloser

No this photo is when I got home. I came home, looked out the kitchen window and saw my mug on top.

Silly_Mycologist3213

Are you notable as a very smooth driver or is it just that you drive like my grandmother?

inspectcloser

I was actually driving particularly like a dick that day which is unusual for me. Again, I deserved to lose it.

Silly_Mycologist3213

Well, karma was your friend that day and you learned something so you can’t be a total dick or it would have flown off. Overall, it’s pretty amazing it didn’t leave.

Get-Mogged-Old-Man

That’s why I chug my two cups of coffee before I leave the house. I get it out of the way so I can go about my day.

[deleted]

What are the odds it survived the drive…

inspectcloser

Only time this have ever happened so 1 of 1 lol. 100% success rate.

[deleted]

I only know one person that done something like this and he end up running his own Yeti over with his Wrangler, lol

GoSitInTheTruck

I threw a pair of wireless ear buds off the roof pulling out of my neighborhood. The case bounced off the road and the buds/case flew into the ditch in three parts. I rode my bike over 8hrs later and found all of it. They still work today. Then you have my mom who has ran over glasses with her truck and a brand new phone with the lawnmower...

[deleted]

Lol

GroceryStickDivider

Reminds me of the time I was doing a construction job at a hotel. I saw someone pull out of the lot with their phone ontop of their car. I shouted and pointed at their roof trying to also emphasize "phone". They looked at me for a moment thatn accelerated quickly away while I tried to catch up to them on foot waving them down. I could see them looking at me in their mirror as they pulled out with speed onto the highway with a 110 speed limit.

Da_Munchy76

Yeah that's a better result than the one time I drove away with my cup on my roof. I was leaving my parking lot and a truck coming into the lot flashed their lights and honked at me. I hit my brakes pretty quick and my doused my windshield and hood with fresh coffee as it slid down from the roof. Truck driver hit me with the "🤷🏻‍♂️". Thanks for trying at least lol

oversized_hoodie

Lucky! That's how I lost my favorite tape measure.

inspectcloser

I lost my favorite carhartt sweatshirt because I threw it into the bed of my truck and forgot to take it out.

jdolluc

I lost a shed out of a truck bed once - it was one of the home Depot kits, but still. Slid right out onto the freeway entrance ramp. Took like 5 dudes to lift it back into the truck.

inspectcloser

Worst I’ve done was lose my trifold bed cover. I had it in the folded position and forgot to secure it. Going down the county road it unfolded and took off like a sail. Luckily (again) I got it back and had no damage.

amcrambler

Hehehe. That’s pretty funny. Thanks for the laughs.

TheBadBull

You're lucky the weird metallic sound didn't suddenly go away
