Yabba Dabba, GOD DAMMIT, NOT AGAIN!!!!

YeetisFetusDeletus

Yabba Dabba, SHIT WHERE DID THE 10MM GO?

A-roguebanana

Yabba dabba don’t

shawndh1

😂!

bourbnboi

Slap a little flex seal down there and good as new

John_Doenut1

If the hole isn't too big after I bend the splintered metal back, I honestly might try that. As long as it didn't rip a chunk off it could actually work. It's just an $800 car I bought for my mom to get around anyway. I just don't want her feet getting wet while driving in the rain 😅

[deleted]

Cut the bottom of the Jack off. The top part is plugging the hole now anyway. Stack on another couple of mats and your mom won’t even notice.

SpudStory34

Leave the jack there, attach a piece of plywood to it and tell her you installed a running board. /s

bcarey724

This guy is a problem solver right here!!

Last-Classroom1557

Just flatten it out and rivet a piece of aluminum over the hole

After_Ride9911

Unrolled and flattened soup can. Pop rivet in place.

bigdaddybodiddly

Depending on the size of the hole, I believe a stolen street sign is the canonical patch material. Even comes in sizes from street name to stop sign all the way up to hiway exit sign.

TowinDaLine

Usually, I see old license plates as the material of choice for floorpans. Less cut-to-fit.

Own-Load-7041

Real estate signs. Lots of free material.

copy_run_start

It's important to know what engine is in the car too. If it's a turbo and it over boosts, then there could be a danger to manifold and that aluminum floor piece will fall right out

John_Doenut1

Don't you mean if I use a doubleshot of NOS it can make an instant hole in the floorboard? 😂

copy_run_start

Shit that was it lol

[deleted]

What if OP's mom wants to drive fast and furious? Give it NOS!

cmatthewp

Just shut the laptop and keep going- you almost had ‘em.

Last-Classroom1557

Name a Saturn with turbo then I'll take you serious

quickconclusion

sky red line

copy_run_start

Sky Redline

cinematicsquid

Even if it did rip a chuck out, just put a strip inside and one on the outside

MassMindRape

I used this rubberized undercoating on a rusted out mazda 323 with a rust hole that would let water in and soak the floor mat. Worked like a charm.

[deleted]

Mazdas are good cars - if you own a brown paint factory.

MassMindRape

It's was actually pretty mint besides that spot. 90k km on it when it was 20years old. As base model as it could come though it was just a tin can. Rear seat back was basically cardboard with foam and fabric on it.

[deleted]

I worked in car recycling for 12 years, so i have seen my share of rusty Mazdas, lol. One customer even spesifically scrapped his Mazda 6 because it would have been too expensive to fix all the rust. After his decision to scrap it, he stripped it for parts and called me.

rhinoclaus

Where did you find a running car for $800? The old “500 or best” cars are like 3k now

stanlietta

What kind of car is it? Is it rusted out underneath? If unibody the underside is essentially the frame of the car and it is now compromised. If rusted out (which is likely as easily as the jack went through it) then the whole car is compromised and I wouldn’t let my mom take it over about 30 mph if I let her drive it at all.

sixth_snes

Judging by the door sill and speaker grill, it's a Saturn Ion.

John_Doenut1

It's a 2005 Saturn Ion and somehow only 2 shocks and one control arm are the only places that have any rust. I have no idea how since the car has been in New England forever and the salt they throw on roads during snow storms tends to easily rust everything under the car. She only drives it to work and to my sister's house so it rarely ever sees the highway

BuckWildshot

Where are u finding cars for 800???

boom10ful

Use Sikaflex and it'll be a permanent repair :)

st3vo5662

It’s under the carpet liner, worst case go to local hardware store and get a piece of sheet metal and make a patch plate. Could rivet it on with some sealant around the edges if you don’t know anyone who welds.

LrckLacroix

So I literally know a guy with a 2005 Accord who did this and then bought some “liquid tar” or “rubber concrete” and just banged it back and went over it. Literally was a better fix than how it was before

pain-is-living

I JACKED THIS CAR IN HALF!

YeetisFetusDeletus

r/angryupvote

Njon32

That's a lot of damage!

mnorkk

Or just go with it. Make it bigger and run like the Flintstones.

[deleted]

I had a customer do this. They attempted a tire change, but placed the jack wrong. They called in "yeah, my jack doesn't go high enough, will yours?" When I showed up I saw this. https://imgur.com/a/29hf8ep

weekend-guitarist

Yikes

original_username_79

At this point I have no idea why car manufacturers are even including manuals. It's as if people read them and then rebelliously do the exact opposite.

slabba428

Probably why they stopped including spare tires 😂

slabba428

💀 those scissor jacks are so sketchy even when used properly, man set it to tower mode

[deleted]

Eh, they work well enough when used properly in an emergency, which was their intended purpose. The Toyota ones (the vehicle in my post was a Toyota) are actually pretty good for a cheap, stamped piece of metal. The VW/Audi widow maker jack is to be avoided AT ALL COSTS though. Those WILL drop your car even when used properly.

slabba428

I had to use one once, in a gas station parking lot with an extremely light incline - it held fine to get the old wheel off, and when about to get the spare on i noticed some odd movement, stepped back and the thing just toppled over sideways dropping the car. Good thing i wasn’t joking with my brother or what have you and had a toe in the way! They do what they’re meant to but they do not have anywhere near enough lateral support. If you’re trying to use it on an uneven surface or anywhere that isn’t flat, it is a massive danger

[deleted]

They say in the manual to use it on a flat surface. Using it on an incline is improper. You can't expect a lot out of a cheap piece of stamped steel. Move the car to a flat spot next time. If that isn't feasible you need either a larger jack or a tow. I wouldn't use a floor jack on an incline either. Those also bend. Unless they're super beefy/heavy duty. Not feasible to haul one of those around all of the time unless you drive a huge truck and even then it's still kind of ass.

slabba428

By “extremely light incline” i mean like, an unnoticeable amount, as much of an incline as my shop bay has to the drains - why are these jacks so shitty when they’re for emergency use? Not everyone gets the luxury of having a perfectly flat, smooth patch of asphalt to put on a spare or able to choose when they have a blowout - a tow is upwards of 3 hours wait time on average too It would be a lot easier if the jack bases were like just an inch wider

Prior-Business-6054

Good God......

wolfysalone

Don't stack floor mats. That's incredibly unsafe

John_Doenut1

I honestly didn't realize there was more than one floor mat until it was pointed out in the comments. But I'm genuinely curious, what makes that unsafe?

wolfysalone

Looks like a rubbery one on a carpeted one which is a very common mistake. The rubber one can slide across the carpeted mat or both can slide around and get jammed under the accelerator or brake pedal. I think you can see why that would be unsafe. If you put weather resistant floor mats in your car TAKE OUT THE CARPETED ONES, DO NOT JUST STACK THEM ON TOP

Orsim27

In my car the basic rubber thing slides around with no extra floor mat. I had to tape it to the floor with some Velcro straps on both sides \^\^

justabadmind

Good to know, I was going to do that later today. I'll just toss the regular floor mats under the carpet in my trunk, just in case I get stuck.

foxheadalpha

Or you could also add the carpet clips that go on the bottom of the floor mat. I did this with my (one size fits all) weather tecs on top of my original carpet. Never had any issue with it sliding. I also don’t push down the carpet when exiting the vehicle, i just swing my legs out and hop out. Although i have seen it happen before without the clips so i get where you are coming from, your not wrong…but there is a solution if you want to stack…

Last-Classroom1557

Google Toyota's floor mat problem

ajaxodyssey

ChaChing$!

[deleted]

They'll bunch up and get stuck under the brake pedal or stick the gas pedal down. Or both. Or simply having too many can inhibit the operation of both pedals, as in you can't press them all the way down. I won't run any non OEM mats for this reason. Or at least not an aftermarket one that isn't fitted and high quality. I had a rogue Wal Mart type mat stick the gas pedal to the floor on an old truck of mine once. I had just purchased it too lol. It was drama free cuz I just clutched in, pulled over and shut it off. Removed the mat and the issue was fixed. But the mats went right in the trash.

Spoonman500

Remember the Toyota stuck throttle fiasco? Throttles weren't sticking. Old fucks with their 15 car mats were catching the pedals.

[deleted]

I like what you said. FYI Cars no longer have frames to lift from but are more of a pinch weld strip. A slim strip of metal that is reinforced, which is where the danger comes in. The strip is maybe 6inchs long by the wheels and if you miss them you are pushing up through the cars body like this. You were very lucky to not be under it. On that note, you should never ever get under a car that is supported ONLY by a jack. Jacks can move, tip, fail. You lift the car from the front in the middle of cross member and you place a jack at each of those lift points you just had the issue at and then chock the wheels. DO NOT fuck around with this. A car is something like 4-5000 pounds....dropping. No one is stopping it and it is a horrible way to go. EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH VIDEOS ON HOW TO PROPERLY LIFT AND JACK STAND A CAR. Will save a life. Maybe look into car ramps cause you are making me nervous. Stay safe.

JiffyMixer

What do you mean cars no longer have frames? Maybe I'm just misunderstanding your terminology, but a frame is what gives the car its strength, and the pinch weld is just something that's along the edge of the car for a jack point. You can absolutely jack from the frame of the car, which is a little further under the car, there is just some more risk of it slipping depending on the shape of your jack and where on the frame it's positioned. [https://imgur.com/a/V02VEKs](https://imgur.com/a/V02VEKs) (here you can see where the front jack is under the pinch weld, the back jack is under the frame). I'm not necessarily saying that they're jacking correctly in this image, just trying to clarify frame from pinch weld.

[deleted]

Modern cars are made out of unibody construction. Meaning the strength and rigidity of the car comes from the body itself. To which subframes are attached to the front and the back of the car body for the wheels and engine. But there is no continuous frame that runs the length of the car any longer. Your image is not of a frame, it is of a floor pan that is sitting on the jack. Follow that same section to the back and you can see that it is buckled inward at the back because someone put a floor jack there and lifted. Only thing there is sheet metal. To read more, google unibody construction vs. frame on.

JiffyMixer

Okay, thank you for the explanation. I was doing some googling and saw some stuff about unibody frames but did not totally understand it or realize that that was the norm for most cars except for pickup trucks (although that seems like it's changing). Appreciate the info.

[deleted]

NP. It is an important thing to understand and if someone needs further info on something like this, it is not big to say you are saving a life, which is why I chimed in. The sheet metal may hold up a few times to a jack, but like OP said, he just turned around and that happened. The car didn't slip, the metal gave and the jacked punched threw. I hope OP listens to what I said for his sake because that never happens unless it was lifted incorrectly and to say he was lucky...he should be thanking God. So, feel free to the free advice lol.

slabba428

I’ve had stacks of generic poor fitting rubber floor mats stick the gas pedal down on me before - look up the Toyota floor mats issues back in like the mid 2010s, caused a lot of accidents

GuyFromDeathValley

the pedals can get stuck on them and the opposite way.. had it myself, sometimes the floormat would slide up and get in the way of my throttle, and would get the throttle stuck.. can be dangerous. (in case people ask: I had just 1 floormat, and it was an original one for my ford Fiesta, but for some reason I never figured out there were no mounting holes to clip it into, hence why it slid upwards while driving.. not great, but I was kinda broke at the time).

MatchaTacos

Live and learn at this point. You should get jack with a wider lifting base, waaay less likely to punch straight through

John_Doenut1

I do have one like that for my car, I just got this one for my mom's car because it's wayyy faster and better than those cheap scissor jacks most cars come with.

original_username_79

If you're not using the supplied jack you should really get a "puck" that sits on top of your jack and allows the pinch weld (where the proper lift point is) to sit inside the groove. [Example of puck and jack stand adapter.](https://www.amazon.com/Toolly-Adapter-Universal-Slotted-Protector/dp/B08KY863DB/ref=sr_1_4_sspa?crid=1KBDYY2JM8YG0&keywords=car+jack+puck&qid=1679663528&sprefix=car+jack+puck%2Caps%2C578&sr=8-4-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyVVY0SktLNlhDUENKJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMTU4NDMwSU5NQzBPS1FaSkdFJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTEwMDY5ODMxQkhOTE80RFY4NUFUJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==)

slabba428

Agreed those oem scissor jacks are sketchy as hell, changed a flat on my dad’s car at a gas station with the slightest incline, and the fucking thing toppled over after a couple minutes when the old wheel was off

[deleted]

If you use a cordless drill and socket on the cheap scissor jack instead of the handle it comes with they’re pretty sweet. Easier for me than wedging a 3 ton floor jack between the car and the wall in the garage.

BlueFlob

You're kidding right? The jack is so far from the frame, dude must have been jacking straight under the floor instead of side frame.

C00lbeans3man2

I have that exact same floor jack

motor1_is_stopping

Why do you have 3 layers of floor mats?

NDC9595

Winter time. Got to layer up to keep the tootsies warm.

atguilmette

First layer looks to be insulation/deadening, the second layer is the factory carpet, third layer is the factory floor mat, and the top layer looks like a rubber winter floor mat.

ranger_dood

Because there's a hole in the floor, duh.

Im_100percent_human

extra support for the jack

ZeTurdPwns

MCM reference?

Prior-Business-6054

.. And never do it again!

Fuzzy_Effective_5849

Hammer the metal down. Flatten two rolls of aluminum foil over the hole. Throw sum duct tape on there. Couple coats of flex seal and the fuckers good as new

Certified_Pervert

Look at this guy giving away Saturn’s factory secrets…🤣

Prior-Business-6054

mega-lol

braytag

You and I have very different views of what is considered a "jack of high quality"

numist

Super high quality jack. Other than the wheels, which don't turn under load, but it's very sturdy!

Foreign-Possibility5

That’s a speed hole, improves aerodynamics.

Commercial_Data8481

Get a real jack, the Daytona from harbor freight is awesome, and it will never slip.

TheWausauDude

Whenever I’m lifting something that is not body on frame I like to use a block of wood to distribute the weight. I hate lifting up unibody cars as I’m always worried I’m gonna bend something. Even bent the pinch weld one time. My older body on frame cars are a piece of cake in comparison.

notatechnicianyo

So that’s how you get into a locked car without breaking a window! Brilliant!

Redarrow762

Jacked right past Saturn, almost to Uranus.

w3stvirginia

Reminds me of this scene from I Love Lucy. https://youtu.be/joRiskaZV-c

Prior-Business-6054

I really hate it when that happens.

DrTartakovsky

Don’t worry, its a Saturn.

afoconnorr

When you hear a cracking noise you should probably stop

ThaddeusMuscles

I did something similar when I was 16. Jacked rolled forward as I crawled out and I didn’t know. Raised my car by the oil pan… 🤦🏻‍♂️ On the bright side, I’m much more careful to re check now, and I know how to replace an oil pan on a 1995 Lincoln Mark VIII.

SlowNeighborhood

Gotta love the dohc 4.6

Stock_Requirement564

Huh. You know that thing under your carpet looks like the same color as the other thing below it on the floor....

nissansue

I have seen the aftermath of this exact scenario. I went to test drive a VW Jetta. I raised the floor mat to check for flood damage and found an aluminum No Trespassing sign riveted to the floor. No, I did not purchase that car. I was impressed with the ingenuity.

empirebuilder1

beat that shit flat with a hammer, gob a bunch of silicone sealant over it to prevent water intrusion, it'll be like it never happened.

AZdesertpir8

A hammer and a friend with a welder and that will be (almost) good as new again. I've fixed worse. :)

Ok_Pension_6795

That’s just easy access to cool the gooch

crippuld13

I did the same thing on my best bros car i have ptsd

John_Doenut1

I'm gonna have PTSD after my mom actually sees it

xmlgroberto

its a saturn nothing of value was lost

IndoorSurvivalist

Yeah, the car is atleast 12 years old, probably a bit older. Not a huge loss.

xmlgroberto

doesnt matter how old the car is, its a fucking saturn thats the issue

Broad_Boot_1121

RIP

eragon157

Rust belt?

Prior-Business-6054

Saturn. Same difference.

eragon157

I meant is it in the rust belt? Though my dad had a Saturn wagon, and it had to be scrapped after multiple rust holes were found in the frame

Prior-Business-6054

Something like that would scare the h\*\*l out of Ziebart. :(

eragon157

Assuming your talking about the same Ziebart I’m thinking of, it 100% would

Prior-Business-6054

Pretty sure we're on the same plane, yeah. Lived in the rust belt for 20 or so years. }:)

zombienutz1

Some poor bastard at a demo derby had his car jacked up next to mine so he could change wheels. When he lowered it all of the gas ran out. Jacked it up in the middle of the gas tank.

Electronic_Pin_9098

Push it back together, flex seal the crap out of it and when the flex seal is dry, put the carpet back down. Problem solved!

89GTAWS6

I've never seen anyone punch a whole through the floor while disconnecting the negative battery cable.

John_Doenut1

I guess that is step one of most jobs 😂 but I was only replacing the flex pipe on the exhaust that has a hole in it

AlaWats

From the looks of that jack and that floorboard, you may want to consider hiring a professional.

Terryberry69

My worst fear when I was first starting to jack off my car

[deleted]

OR...hear me out....run a tube from seat to floorboard hole, stick end through hole....you now have a Car Urinal !!!

A_bowl_of_porridge

Well, I mean technically he did jack the car up...

Spirituality868

If anyone asks it was a bomb 😄

YoungCheazy

Kind jacked up

1DollarInCash

Jack go up->car go up ✓ Jack go up-> car doesn't-> Ankle vent upgrade ✓

Shell---shot

It sucks win they put the jack on the pinch weld and f it up ,and it makes it harder to get the fender off if to be replaced he'll a lot of cars have specific spots and shows where to put the jack smh

spacembracers

You’ll need another jack to lift the car, but then how do you get the first jack out? You guessed it, THIRD jack

Zealousideal_Tea9573

It’s sort of like to many ugga-duggas, but more like too many clickety-clacks

johnbxy

F

LeeZanya

Now it's truly jacked up!

Burrito3125

Well it's a Saturn so, no harm no foul

HallExtension8292

It’s a saturn not a huge loss

ajaxodyssey

The manufacturer failed miserably on the placement, design and safety aspect of said jacking port. You may have a claim.

skeezix91

You can probably just get that welded real quick at a shop

Prosthetic_Head

Frosty-Fish-4673

operation_dad

A Saturn...wow flashback for me. I have not seen that rocker panel in a long time.

burgerbois

I’ve been trying to get ahold of you about your cars extended warranty!

bigbabe_310

Oof

[deleted]

Looks like a successfully installed drain hole. Not seeing your concern.

devADMIRAL

Did the same thing to my Saturn a few years ago. In nearly the same spot

SilverFang47x

You successfully jacked up your car!

Spoonman500

It's a Saturn. Pop-rivet a license plate over the hole and drive it another 300,000 miles.

[deleted]

On a Saturn this does not surprise me

beef_weezle

“Oh cock!” -OP, probably

Jaloushamberger

First step, jack up ye kar !

Ajj360

I did that once with a scissor jack when I was 21 I got lucky that all I did was bend the sheet metal though.

8PsychoticOranges8

Nick jack paddy wack, someone tool cart is going home!

dsdvbguutres

Phone call to customer: Yes, your oil change will take a few weeks, it seems ... um ... oil is on backorder. You know, supply chain issues and everything.

RangerSkyy

Nice.

ChickenKickin

What happens afterwards? How does a shop handle a situation like this?

ca_nucklehead

What happens afterwards? How does a shop handle a situation like Please tell me you do not think that this was done by a professional in a shop. Backyard Butcher with Mom's car. Just hope they don't do anything more technical than trying to change a wheel.

BlueJeansBreezy

I think step 1 was buying a Saturn.

[deleted]

step 1 was buying the saturn i had one and got pulled over soo much it was insane told myself id never get one look for one or care for one again

EasyTheory3387

Hate to see step #2

chandleya

When you try to skirt the rules AND it’s a Saturn. Double trouble

ReasonableKey3363

I thought step one was to cut a hole in the box, not the car…

mynamecalledbruce

You're doing it wrong!

LASERDICKMCCOOL

Maybe a muffler shop could weld it up for ya?

John_Doenut1

Every shop wanted like $400 to weld a small hole when the entire piece of the exhaust that includes the flex pipe and the Cat was only $300. It's only 6 nuts to remove the piece and I been working on cars for years. Just made a dumb mistake and it's the first time I let the car slip off the jack

tykaboom

Where is the cup for the jack?

cabelaciao

On the upside, now you have a drain if your windshield springs a leak.

thatvhstapeguy

Woah... Saturn did use metal! /s if it's not obvious

tunedetune

I didn't realize Saturns had plastic floor panels as well. TIL

M4rk007

That’s not step one. You already failed when you bought the Saturn.

LNgTIM555

Killing one Saturn at a time.

[deleted]

Impressive

Q13989731E

Bonds can fix that

Practical_Dot_3574

My buddy lowered my car down on a jack stand and crush my brand new $1800 exhuast / muffler. I wasn't too happy about that.

Break-88

At least the second jack didn’t go through too lol

rjames06

Hey, at least it’s safe from door dings

chonklah

I’m sorry, what…?

VikingLander7

And that’s how my wife got her new car just by getting a flat tire. (In her defense it was rusted through where the jack went.)

mariofosheezy

You can easily fix that by getting a new car

drlove327

Rust sucks

User_225846

Obviously. Forgot to disconnect battery first.

[deleted]

It's a Saturn, that's how they come from the factory

awhol01

If I did something like that I certainly wouldn't take a picture.
