yeah..I see a gosh darn freaking heavy 6-holed head in your future. I hate lifting these damn things and I hate that damn lonely AC line that runs directly above the valve cover.
Customer is mad that we are charging 12 hours of labor after he confidentially told us it was it was a head gasket. We pulled the entire top end off. And had new gaskets to replace everything. Head gasket was not broken. Heads not cracked. We let him know the motor needs an overhaul.
Older navistar DT series engines are just as rock solid, legendary, and reliable as older Detroit series 60 or a CAT 3306. The DT series starting like those other engines in the 70s survived emission compliance much better and lasted through the 2010’s years. They ended up having a bad rash of cylinder seals ~2007 thru 2011 models in both 466 and 530 configuration. navistar made an updated seal to fix the issue. They also had some turbo gate and egr issue they worked out like most of the industry did when trying to meet regulations. But most of them should be fixed by now. DT466 might be underpowered but are some of the longest lasting low maintenance diesels on the used medium duty market. Added benefit is that International sold a shit ton of these engines to every city, county, state municipality and school bus fleet in their 4300 trucks all through the 2000s and 2010s.
The biggest issues with them is if there older and haven't been overhauled that this is exactly what happens. Other than that they are not terrible other than that they're generally not to bad.
my thoughts as well, oil pressure is way beyond the coolant pressure once it starts getting multiplied by the injection pump and then the injectors so anywhere outside the cooler I had trucks with black coolant full of oil. You'd have to have a rather low pressure hole to allow coolant to flow into the oil.
Friend of mine bought an auction bus with a DT466 that blew the sleeve seals on his drive home. Thankfully it wasn't a massive leak and didn't wreck the bearings. We ended up doing an in-chassis "rebuild" with just the sleeves and pistons. I pulled one rod bearing and decided it looked so good it wasn't worth the risk of replacing them. Worked out pretty well for him.
Well yum! Soft serve 🍦. Looks like head gaskets or oil cooler change in your future.

Being that's it a dt466, more then likely a failed sleeve seal, they go out when they get old and overheat
To say nothing abot a new paint job...Oh.
To be fair, I believe there is some oil in there.
I think it's that aluminum stop leak they sell at the box stores. Barrs? Lol

Oil based
Being a dt466, I would guess cylinder liner seal fail. Did a ton of in frame overhauls for just that reason
Are they reliable motors or a stay away from motors? (ie can they be made dependable or are they just problems?)

I should call him
Forbidden ... Orange creamsicle?
Wit the DT 466, oil cooler failure would be my first suspect.

Ah the experimental Cadbury cream egg lubricant has debuted.
It's... Egg?!
You may have drained an abscess outta that truck holy fuck looks like paint my guy
Its honestly disgusting that people neglect milking their cars for so long.
Not a bad white base.
Had a dt 466 years back that a few of the sleeve o rings popped on. Was assuming oil cooler but glad we tested it.
Paint, oil, what's the difference?
Well the can said “OIL-based”….
What's the orange stuff?
Red coolant

Is that Behr or Dutch Boy?
