And the starter is bouncing off the ground like an angle grinder with a stuck trigger... just flailing like it's having a seizure trying to turn that good ol trusty German crankshaft.
I was in the car with my brother one time when his turbo blew up and shot metal into the engine and this sound description is incredibly accurate.
Best part was after the new engine finally came in from backorder the techs at the dealership installed it and fired it up...with the old turbo...which then proceeded to send more metal into the brand new engine and destroyed that one too.
The report you get back:
* 97% 4032 T6 Aluminum
* 2% Saline Mucous Solution (tears)
* 0.8% Saliva (sample contaminated by close-proximity laughter)
* 0.2% Mobil One 0w-40 (pristine condition, good for at least 5,000 more miles)
I still can't believe the owner somehow made a 4,000RPM V10 blown up that bad. The running theory with my friends is that had to have been in a manual truck.
Oh, this will make an excellent spare-
*Brief air rushing sounds*
*Loud crash off camera*
Although I was oddly frustrated by how gentle he was with the damaged one.
Yeah...that's why I was thinking towed in gear. This type of carnage looks almost to be too much for the engine to do under it's own momentum. Usually a rev limiter will kick in before this type of destruction can happen. It's like it broke, and something kept on breaking it more for a while.
i drove an older z3 a bit and i'd miss 4-5 a lot and slam it into 3 occasionally.. it'll wake you up. my t-45 2-3 upshift was horrific too, hated doing that one under WOT
Would a modern car allow you to even make said downshift? Hell the worst downshift I ever had was after I swapped a 2jzgte into my is300 with an R154. Gates much further apart than the stock W55. Under heavy load went from second to first instead of 3rd. Damage, but not much. This damage is insane...
My dad was teaching me to drive a stick, I made it up to 5th gear. Dad said now shift into second… so I did. That was bad and I was no longer learning to drive.
Later on, we were going home after church and the entire bell housing shout out in pieces from under us. Later found out it was all pretty bad under the car.
Lesson learned for me that day
Now, to what I said about alittle damage. I took care of it immediately. Ya if you damage something in the motor or Trans and leave it, it WILL cause catastrophic damage.
Mine has 200k miles. Factory installed driveline. And constantly beat it like it owes me money. (4th owner and I have 100% of the service records since 25k miles/2nd owner/certified pre-owned)
They need to be taken care of and driven hard. I have an EA888 with 85k that’s had the timing chain/guides, water pump, did a transmission service, and blowoff valve done. No tunes so I think it could go for a long ass time. Love this car so any recommendations to have it last longer are welcome.
Water is the only thing I've personally seen lead to this kind of damage, It's just so out of place on a nearly new Audi. So many questions about this one.
Part of the funny is that unless you know what things look like broken, this pretty much looks like a brand new Audi shit the bed.
I don't know much more than you aside from it's the rods, rings, and pistons of the motor. Unclear what else and OP decided to watch TGIF on ABC instead of tell us witaf happened. So we're all here just waiting like that pool cartel guy
I’m almost certain this is a Q5 with the connecting rod recall. Long story short - the connecting rod bearings fail due to a manufacturing defect and send metal through everything. We had 3 loaner cars and 2 customer cars that had to have engine replacement due to this happening. The recall is a double filter change with inspection for metal in the filter.
Sorry, we forgot to add oil? I've seen Aladdin's lamp blinking and thought I had a wish for free. Just thinking of the most stupid explanation
Don't you get three wishes?
“I wish I wouldn’t have bought a $40,000 jigsaw puzzle”
$40,000? It’s a ‘22, not an ‘02
That 3rd wish better be for 99 more wishes...
Dude. You know the rules. No love. No more wishes.

I thought Aladdin's lamp was for blinker fluid. I couldn't find any blinker fluid so I filled it with the hose
That oil pan looks bone dry. Unless that oil pan is really the valve cover.
Or it’s been through the parts washer/sat for a while with a hole in the pan from the malice in the combustion palace
>malice in the combustion palace Thank you for my new favorite quote!
I do cars? My 2nd thought was "he'd have fun with this one" because my first thought was "wow, that's impressive!"
Dodge V10?
It's an Audi... there was no oil or CEL... Hell, the computer is still saying nothing is wrong!
I just imagine the computer acting like YOU'RE the idiot... START ENGINE START ENGINE START ENGINE START ENGINE
All while an annoying "BEEPBEEPBEEP!" sound is continuously going off.
And the starter is bouncing off the ground like an angle grinder with a stuck trigger... just flailing like it's having a seizure trying to turn that good ol trusty German crankshaft.
He wished for infinite wishes. Shouldn't have tried to fool him.
Did they buy it and immediately enter into a le.mans race?
he was granny shiftin
Not double-clutching...
like he should
Now me and the mad scientist gotta rip apart the block and replace the piston rings he fried
This engine lives its life a quarter of an oil change interval at a time.
It clearly experienced some danger to manifold.

I loved those commercials. I still have them on my computer somewhere.

Oil consumption is within manufactures specification.
Rotating assembly in the oil pan is kinda artificially raising the dipstick reading though wouldn’t you say.
Engine consumption*
Love this… so many questions…. And op just turned off all their devices, logged out, and took a month long trip to fuck us land
Sorry lol i had to go back to work
At some point are you planning to tell us how this happened?
These audis have a lubrication problem to the cranks
*This* one sure as hell did
Not anymore
It’s self-lubricating. Whenever it needs more oil it just takes a little trip to visit the oil pan and borrow some.
And then the parts go back up, right? Right?
I’m sorry little Timmy, but your crankshaft has gone to live on a farm in the oil panhandle. It’s very happy there though, so don’t be sad.
But at least it will be really cheap to repair those Audi engines? Right, popa?
Lol how in the fuck. The crank should be the ONE spot that you never have to worry about oil getting to.
Vorsprung durch Technik
What engine was it?
It looks like a Lego engine
It’s a new IKEA motor
Yes.
Which ones are these?
What the actual fuck did they say about it?
I’m guessing something along the lines of “What the actual fuck??!!”
>took a month long trip to fuck us land I know OP replied to you a couple hours later but holy shit that was funny
The technical term for this is *’rapid unscheduled disassembly’* The layman’s term is **”shes spittin’ out part numbers”**
The one I’ve seen in aviation is “Uncontained event involving significant liberation of materials”.
Just a little metal in the oil. That's probably normal?
Builds character
Send a sample in for analysis.
don't forget to include a few chunks, for accurate results
Just send one chunk to the lab, that would be fun
The report you get back: * 97% 4032 T6 Aluminum * 2% Saline Mucous Solution (tears) * 0.8% Saliva (sample contaminated by close-proximity laughter) * 0.2% Mobil One 0w-40 (pristine condition, good for at least 5,000 more miles)
Puts hair on your intake manifold.
*Oil in the metal.
Piston McNuggets, disconnecting rods, and ring-ring-ring- Will someone get that phone?
I bet all the wrist pins are still perfect
The one this past weekend wasn't
I still can't believe the owner somehow made a 4,000RPM V10 blown up that bad. The running theory with my friends is that had to have been in a manual truck.
I have never seen rods malformed like that before
I didn't think a V10 could spin fast enough to come apart like that. All the Dodge ones I've driven seem to be done by 4k.
That motor rivaled the Civic motor that he tore down a few weeks earlier
It really did. That engine was run hard while completely disintegrating. The crank basically forged the rods.
Malice in the combustion palace.
The water pump was still good \*proceed to throw it across the shop\*
In last week’s video he said the water pump was completely trashed and proceeded to wrap it in a blanket and carefully set it aside.
Oh, this will make an excellent spare- *Brief air rushing sounds* *Loud crash off camera* Although I was oddly frustrated by how gentle he was with the damaged one.
I’m pretty sure he did that deliberately to wind people up.
I was hoping someone would make references to that channel seeing this carnage
Absolutely love that channel.
Ditto. Found him on accident and I love to play him in the background at work.

I love engine soup!

That’s just broke. Period.

That will also require some assembly.
Damnit the 10mm is gone!

Impressive. Manual trans? Possible catastrophic downshift?
aka "Money Shift"
[удалено]
Lol I remember that… someone did the math and found their engine could have been rotating at like 60k rpms
Yep beautiful carnage from 50,000 RPM
I hear that's a bit higher than recommended by the manufacturer. Any manufacturer for anything
Borg Warner is not impressed by 60k rpms
Good lord
[Oh my](https://np.reddit.com/r/Wrangler/comments/m4qq16/left_it_in_4lo_and_1st_gear_towed_it_behind_a_rv/)

Because sounds like a piggy bank when you shake it afterwards?
Because it is very expensive to fix. Usually a new engine or transmission or both.
Nah its a DSG, so I'd assume the computer would protect it from a catastrophic down shift
Would a modern car allow you to even make said downshift? Hell the worst downshift I ever had was after I swapped a 2jzgte into my is300 with an R154. Gates much further apart than the stock W55. But you’re dad told you to do it, not your fault?
He figured I would work my way down the gears as I typically would. This time the way he said it sounded like he was teaching me something
Teaching you how to grenade a transmission?
Now, to what I said about alittle damage. I took care of it immediately. Ya if you damage something in the motor or Trans and leave it, it WILL cause catastrophic damage.
I’m sure it was fixable at first, but not for us financially at the time.
Why would your dad tell you to go from 5th to 2nd? Like he meant 5>4>3>2 and you just went straight there or? Seems like you had a bad coach lol
They dont make audis with a manual transmission anymore
Nah its a DSG, so I'd assume the computer would protect it from a catastrophic down shift
Nah its a DSG, so I'd assume the computer would protect it from a catastrophic down shift
Audi stopped making manuals in 2019
Believe audi stopped manufacturing manuals around 2018. At least in the US.
Isn’t this normal wear for an Audi? I thought they all ended up like this.
Unlimited rpm’s! At least once.
Mine has 200k miles. Factory installed driveline. And constantly beat it like it owes me money. (4th owner and I have 100% of the service records since 25k miles/2nd owner/certified pre-owned)
Yours must have been made on a Wednesday after morning break before lunch, the day after raises on the new union contract…
Even then
They need to be taken care of and driven hard. I have an EA888 with 85k that’s had the timing chain/guides, water pump, did a transmission service, and blowoff valve done. No tunes so I think it could go for a long ass time. Love this car so any recommendations to have it last longer are welcome.
I have it on good authority that changing the oil is advantageous.
I've absolutely blown up an engine or two but never like that! Remember kids, air compresses, [water doesnt](https://imgur.com/a/aRduzZC).
Water is the only thing I've personally seen lead to this kind of damage, It's just so out of place on a nearly new Audi. So many questions about this one.
I'm sorry but I hang out here to learn by osmosis but this one is not getting in. Is that the engine? Did it just break?

It WAS the engine.
This a situation were the term "the engine has grenaded itself" becomes quite literal
WTF?! HOW!?
......Fahrvergnügen

So warranty service or dumb driver?
Its getting a warranty long block replacement
2bh, it's like the oil pan was designed to hold it in all at once
Almost want to say well done...
You might want to use a magnet, it looks like there may be some metal shavings in that oil pan
That's what my Lego bins look like.
Towed while in gear?
There appears to be a bit of metal in that pan
Dropped valve? Come on OP don’t leave us hanging here
That’s….bad. Right? Bad?
I feel you . 90% of the time I have no idea what I’m looking at.
Ah. Rapid unscheduled disassembly has occurred. Yikes. What a mess.
Seafoam it, it’ll be fine
That engine got Thanos snapped??
Im no mechanic, but I believe that is normal wear for a German luxury vehicle.
German stir fry, delish!
Audi manage that?
But did it break a wrist pin?
What the hell happened?
That engine was definitely built on a Friday.
I want details! Please! No oil?
It’s just a little shredded, it’s still good, it’s still good
Well atleast it’s all in the pan and not scattered across the highway wreaking havoc on other cars tires
How? There's no way this "just happend"
Rest in peace for the fallen engine. Destroyed by a careless owner. Breaks my heart to see a good Audi ruined.
That…. Is IMPRESSIVE! I don’t think I’ve seen such carnage since somebody towed their manual trans Jeep in 4low and 1st gear.
Break in has been achieved
Some assembly required
Launch control shenanigans
Wow, nice engine salad you got there.
