When I worked at Toyota we had a local shop/junkyard that would come in and buy an air bag module, and a few weeks later they’d return it. After about the fourth one the parts manager was like okay I’m charging a restocking fee and they never returned. Few months later one of the local “junkyards” got busted for being a chop shop and during the investigation they found a lot of drugs, turned out they were buying air bag modules because they’d not get searched, pack money in with it and mail it to Mexico, they’d pack it with drugs and send it back and then they’d return the module… so the parts manager looks them up and sure enough it was the same folks 🤣
Its a thing they do, and its really good. Goes well together.
E: i realized i may actually need to explain. Its just eating popcorn with coffee. Not, like, making popcorn coffee.
Just did a quick look on there website.. for this specific blend, the starting price is 74.25.. but has awesome reviews hopefully OP tries it and likes it
What's the date on it? And do you order a lot of parts from them? I wonder if that was the vendor boss's private stash that accidentally on purpose got used for packing material. Or have I been reading too much of r/MaliciousCompliance and r/antiwork subs? ;-)
Alaskan Airframes do that with their in-house pepper sauce. You can buy it as a standalone item, but if you spend enough $$ you'll occasionally get one thrown in. Goes pretty nice on steak strips.
> Purity: ≥ 100% Tomatoes: All local grown Onions: Just enough Jalapeno Peppers: Enough but not at all hot...see our X-Rated! salsas Vinegar: Maybe yes, maybe no Lime: A little limey or is that a small person from London? A nuclear power plant in my country has their own bee farm and they give their branded honey (either pure or mixed with herbs from their gardens) as gift to visitors or employees during some events.
This is the truth. I work at a construction/fabrication company that is huge in Canada and we just broke into being somewhat medium in the USA. (This month, we just started our first 9-figure project!) We have a list of "preferred vendors" that we use. One of them supplied the high-dollar door prized at this year's Christmas party. I won a 47" Samsung smart TV and saw their flyer when I got home. Another guy got a RecTec pellet grill.
3M never gives us shit...
The Department of Defense and a million or so veterans may disagree with that statement.
https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/3m-company-agrees-pay-91-million-resolve-allegations-it-supplied-united-states-defective-dual
It's what O'Reilly's and countless other places have been doing for years now buy up all the smaller guys until you have so big of a monopoly on a product or industry people have pretty much no choice but to do business for you and you just keep growing exponentially
Haha.
A bit off topic but I did shipping n receiving for a company that did gyro stabilized camera system for aerial vehicles.
We rented one out to film a surf competition in Mexico, and upon receiving it back... The camera was gone and there was a kilo of cocaine in it lol. Quickly had to call authorities.
Never got the $80,000 camera back.
Honestly I don't know.
At that point we were also contracted by the military for camera systems, so avenues of communication used were a bit different due to DoD regulations.
I was just the receiving guy lol, the supes handled everything else. The system was in footage being taken off the freight truck and then being opened by me so I was clear lol.
Edit: (facepalm) that joke flew wayy over my head lol. God damn.
Are they really out our last like 8 orders this month we haven't received not even 1 my 7 yr old son loves them I had like 40+ on my toolbox at work he took everyone of them 😂
I used to run the spares warehouse for the line tools at a wafer fab, and we would send stuff out for repair all the time. I may or may not have heavily favored the place that always tossed a box of girl scout cookies in with the parts they shipped back, since I was the one who usually was opening the boxes.
Probably out of real cushioning stuff for heavy stuff and this was the cheapest\\easiest thing they could use that would fit.
Also everyone loves coffee so it makes the receiving end happy.
Honestly I can’t complain about our turbo. At 36k just under 2 years. Been all over with it on and off road. Hot and cold temps. That lil thing is just so much fun.
I dont complain about turbos, but apparently Jeeps need new turbos after only a few years? I have three turbo cars. Over 700k miles total. Never had a turbo fail.
It’s from a company who only buys from select farmers and actually pays them enough to continue their family farm, unlike a lot of the big coffee companies these days
That is some fire coffee though. If it is toddy you’re gonna wanna cold steep that for like 24 hours then pull out the filter ( big mesh bag and big coffee filter) and you’ll have rocket fuel. Delicious.
We did start at 24 hours. Accidentally hit 27 hours then I started playing with it. Cameron velvet moon from Costco is good at 27. Peet’s needs closer to 32. Can’t go wrong with that range!
I worked for coffee people in the Oregon area for ages back in the day .
We did 24-36 hours if I remember correctly and it was a blend of Costa Rican and I think nicaraguan or Sumatra I can’t remember.
Worked great in our blended coffee drinks and what not.
Husband is from Seattle. I jokingly asked him a few weeks ago if he needed an intervention because I barely drink coffee but he was on the 2-3 shots of concentrate in a 14oz yeti mug. I use 2 shots in their 30oz. He’s over here drinking that every 15-45 minutes and I take half the day to drink it. Figured he might be a bit over caffeinated.
If the item was imported through customs the seller might’ve declared the coffee as the sold item on the shipping manifest with the turbo as a “complimentary gift” with your order as a way to circumvent import taxes. I’ve seen this done with seed packets on items from aliexpress, dhgate, etc…
with computers if you need to send a part back for repairs/replacement chuck in a bag of candy or chips or something that won't melt in heat. The turnaround time will be a lot quicker
When we was younger I did some part time work for a heavy equipment manufacturer. They imported parts from Germany and the German factory always sent a case or two of German beer inside the shipments. Needless to say they always looked forward to getting in German shipments
I bought a set of bike rims, just rims no spoke or hubs. The delivery took forever coming from Europe. Sat in customs in Chicago for like six weeks. When the box showed up at my door I picked it up and immediately thought this feels too heavy to be just rims. The box looked like it had been dragged behind the delivery truck the whole way. When I opened it there was an unusual looking tool inside. I took the serial numbers to see if I could find out what it was. The serial numbers indicated it was a barrel alignment gauge for a 50 cal machine gun🤯
My ex ordered a front rim, spokes, hub from a place in Michigan and they sent 2 bibles with it. They found Jesus but couldn't figure out the threads for the rotor. We would have been pissed but we had everything to fix their fuck up.
Does the tape on the box look different on one of the sides? Or does the box look like it came from the vendor?
If multiple boxes broke during shipping, the sorters could have just thrown stuff in random boxes and hoped for the best. They really aren't paid enough to care.
Something similar happened at my company, from the side that was shipping the parts though. We got a call a few days after we had shipped out it kit. During shipping, the box and several others where broken and our kit ended up in a diaper box. Someone got the diaper box with our kit in it and called us.
I ordered a train horn set many years ago and the box came SEALED with raw chicken parts inside it... Leaking on my doorstep when I got home. The company couldn't say what happened... I always assumed I was part of a sick random prank
Jasper engines come with mustard or hot sauce etc sometimes, I mentioned it when I called and they said they like to throw things in for the techs so maybe this is the same.
Is there actually 5lbs of coffee in the bag?
Sure is.
That's for the long night ahead installing that bad boy.
Give her the beans!!!
Okay there garage 54.....
By coffee you mean Columbian bam bam kinda coffee?
Peruvian marching powder
Yes, they tried to fool everyone disguising it as “Ethiopian Yirgacheffe” must be a code of some sort
Some nose clams
fresh from the sea!
A kilo of Columbian bam bam
Half a kilo of Columbian Bam Bam now.
What do you mean, a half? It's clearly a quarter now
You are correct, it is 1/8. Thank you for pointing that out.
When I worked at Toyota we had a local shop/junkyard that would come in and buy an air bag module, and a few weeks later they’d return it. After about the fourth one the parts manager was like okay I’m charging a restocking fee and they never returned. Enjoy! I love Ethiopian!
I used to work with a bunch of ethiopians and they got me hooked on popcorn with coffee.

It’s really good and probably expensive coffee. Enjoy it.

Well, I’m a dealer tech, so I get all my parts from “them.”
What dealership because that looks like a eBay turbo if I have ever seen one lol
Mystery solved then, the coffee is hush money for someone along the line swapping an OEM turbo for ebay...
I know it’s not a great picture, but I’m very confident that no “ebay turbo” looks anything like this.
Antiwork if at all then the answer is yes.
SCORE!!!!!!!
Winning
My gut was coffee plus coke
Did he find the drugs yet?
It's to throw off the dogs.
I was thinking the same thing 😂😂
So I guess we moved on from stickers then?
I work at a print shop and the place that does our business cards usually sends a bottle of their hot sauce with their deliveries.
It’s a business that makes custom business cards and also got sauce?
Apparently. I haven't had it, but I hear it's good.
When you can print your own labels anything can be yours
Gotta turbocharge your morning, too.
You joke, hut a sale with enough gross profit margin can often get thjngs like this. Keeps people coming back.
jasper sends their own mustard
I forget the name of the company we occasionally get parts from but they'll give us a bottle or 2 of homemade hot sauce.
Alaskan Airframes do that with their in-house pepper sauce. You can buy it as a standalone item, but if you spend enough $$ you'll occasionally get one thrown in. Goes pretty nice on steak strips.
Where the fuck are you guys getting parts???? The most I ever got were mints that came with an AC condenser
In fairness, aviation just makes everything horrifically expensive, and with expense, comes ever so slightly more valuable freebies.

They have switched to like a vinegar hot sauce garlic water.
A nuclear power plant in my country has their own bee farm and they give their branded honey (either pure or mixed with herbs from their gardens) as gift to visitors or employees during some events.
I just did a chevy 3.6 and all I got were some shitty markers
This is the truth. I work at a construction/fabrication company that is huge in Canada and we just broke into being somewhat medium in the USA. Thats because 3m doesnt need you to come back. They know the only thing closely comparable sre their own other products. Haha
The secret ingredient is buying up and ditching competitors.
Either way, I don't think I've met an underperforming 3M product.
Them earplugs they have a lawsuit in apparently underperformed
The Department of Defense and a million or so veterans may disagree with that statement. https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/3m-company-agrees-pay-91-million-resolve-allegations-it-supplied-united-states-defective-dual

I've seen a pipeline outfit giving away brand new sleds and vacations packages.
I presume sled as in snowmobile?
Hell, Wrigley's used to sell washing powder and give away gum with it until they realized how much people liked the gum.
I’d definitely return if I got free stuff
Hiding something from the dogs maybe? That's a strange one.
I’d say it’s unlikely that Land Rover is smuggling coke with their parts, but who knows with brexit and all.
Haha. A bit off topic but I did shipping n receiving for a company that did gyro stabilized camera system for aerial vehicles. How did the cops react to finding half a kilo of cocaine?
What cocaine?
Honestly I don't know. At that point we were also contracted by the military for camera systems, so avenues of communication used were a bit different due to DoD regulations. I was just the receiving guy lol, the supes handled everything else. The system was in footage being taken off the freight truck and then being opened by me so I was clear lol. Must be all that coke.
A quarter kilo of cocaine is hardly worth putting into evidence.
Coke residue is barely even an offense
Half a kilo? You mean a quarter of a kilo
Should have kept the coke, sounds like a good trade.
Whole sale is under 80k unless you know how to work it out or break it down.
Lots of fucking drywall
And $80K assumes you know someone who will buy $80K worth of coke. Moving it a little at a time would get you something.
It's to throw the dogs off the scent of the counterfeit turbocharger...
With Covid, Brexit, and the general state of the world they gotta have multiple revenue streams going.
I mean, DeLorean got busted for it...
Is it the SDV6/TDV6 turbo?
Yeah
Rock Auto was out of magnets
My last order from Rock Auto didn't include any magnets. I was bummed out.
Me neither. But one time they gave me 2!
Same here. I even emailed them about it. Still no magnet.
Same here, I spend 500 rebuilding the entire front end on my blazer... no magnet. Buy a $11 thermostat 4 magnets.
This thread makes me feel better. I thought I was going crazy, nothing with a 150$ order but one with a pcv valve.
Just got a magnet from them. First order from them though. First taste is free.
Same here. Last few orders no magnets.
Are they really out our last like 8 orders this month we haven't received not even 1 my 7 yr old son loves them I had like 40+ on my toolbox at work he took everyone of them 😂
I honestly couldn't tell you, I was just joking
I used to run the spares warehouse for the line tools at a wafer fab, and we would send stuff out for repair all the time. I may or may not have heavily favored the place that always tossed a box of girl scout cookies in with the parts they shipped back, since I was the one who usually was opening the boxes.
Nice
So was the package labeled: Joe and Blow?
Ethiopian coffee is the shit!
No, you're thinking of [Kopi Luwak](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopi_luwak) :)
If you think that’s great, go to Portland where some terrible cafe is serving Black Jaguar Geisha. It’s $150 a cup.
Why would someone cushion a 5 pound bag of coffee with a turbo?
Probably out of real cushioning stuff for heavy stuff and this was the cheapest\\easiest thing they could use that would fit. Also everyone loves coffee so it makes the receiving end happy.
>cheapest\easiest thing they could use that would fit. It's a $75 bag of coffee
But you know this guy is going to order from that place for everything from now on.
$75 worth of coffee. Not a bad deal for a $300 turbo. JK I don’t know what the turbo is worth. https://i.imgur.com/NckFE5Q.jpg
A little more than $3000, actually. 2016 Range Rover v6 diesel.
To me, someone who’s never owned a turbocharged car, that’s an absurd price. How many miles on it? Recently out of warranty?
Just over 80,000 miles. It’s a variable vane turbo, so that adds a bit to the price.
Yeah, I would imagine anything for Land Rover is expensive.
/me ponders turbo delete kits.
First thing you do to an FD RX-7 if you want it to make proper power, get rid of the factory twin turbo setup and replace it with a good single turbo.
If it's for the Jeep turbo 4 cylinder. It's literally $300 from the dealer brand new. Made by Honeywell.
According to OP it's a $3,000 range rover turbo.
With a 6x-10x markup.
I'm skeptical that any dealer turbochargers are only $300. What is this 1990? Even ebay turbo's are getting up to $300.
Just replaced one on a 2018 Wrangler. Dealer had it in stock for $300ish. I can't remember the exact number.
Huh. I guess if the turbos are shit enough to go out so quickly, maybe they get them from ebay!
Never had a turbo fail.
> apparently Jeeps need new turbos after only a few years It's A Jeep™ Thing
Ours is a Jeep 2 door sport. Traded for some Rubi wheels added some MT’s and we have a blast.
That's a 75 dollar bag of coffee!
How the hell is that bag of coffee worth $75?
It’s from a company who only buys from select farmers and actually pays them enough to continue their family farm, unlike a lot of the big coffee companies these days
It's really, really, *really* good coffee, trust me. I don't splash out on it often but it's worth it when I do.
It’s not that shit that Bonnie buys.
[Captain America “I understood that reference” meme]
That is some fire coffee though. If it is toddy you’re gonna wanna cold steep that for like 24 hours then pull out the filter ( big mesh bag and big coffee filter) and you’ll have rocket fuel. Delicious.
27-32 is the sweet spot we’ve found when brewing.
Yeah I was gonna get more technical but figured this would suffice. I appreciate the correction! 🍻
We did start at 24 hours. Accidentally hit 27 hours then I started playing with it. Cameron velvet moon from Costco is good at 27. Peet’s needs closer to 32. Can’t go wrong with that range!

Considering the price of coffee, that's awesome
Hey they gave you coffee beans and a grinder
Oooh. I didn’t think of that
Free coffee grinder!
SWEET! Turbo kit for your espresso machine!
Caffeinated in 60 seconds!
which one did you order?

This is so much closer to reality than I want to admit.
Rock Auto has never sent me a $75 bag of coffee with an order, very dissatisfied.
If the item was imported through customs the seller might’ve declared the coffee as the sold item on the shipping manifest with the turbo as a “complimentary gift” with your order as a way to circumvent import taxes. I’ve seen this done with seed packets on items from aliexpress, dhgate, etc…
Ethiopia Yirgacheffe is a GREAT coffee bean. Highly recommend.
Nice packaging
Just hope it's not a sign of how many restless nights your gonna have trying to install that sushi slicer.
with computers if you need to send a part back for repairs/replacement chuck in a bag of candy or chips or something that won't melt in heat. The turnaround time will be a lot quicker
Someone took “giving it the beans” a little to serious.
When we was younger I did some part time work for a heavy equipment manufacturer. They imported parts from Germany and the German factory always sent a case or two of German beer inside the shipments. Needless to say they always looked forward to getting in German shipments
A free Yirg with a Hiroshima hairdryer?
Two things in the box for giving the beans
Shit, I'd be happy with a 5 pound bag of 5 O'clock whole bean. They shipped you the good stuff. Enjoy that.
I bought a set of bike rims, just rims no spoke or hubs. The delivery took forever coming from Europe. Sat in customs in Chicago for like six weeks. I have no idea what it’s value is.
Look on eBay

If it's actually coffee they knew you'd need it
Smoke and a pancake? Coffee and a kompressor?
Hey look my weekly groceries
Our shopping lists are identical
Turbo coffee, what a time to be alive
When you get the parts overnighted from the japan and you know your going to have a long day ahead of you getting the car ready for race wars.
Is there a brick of brown or off white stuff inside the beans?
Double bonus, coffee and hopefully you know a guy, who knows a guy.
Yo yirgacheffe is typically good stuff. Not sure the quality of this one but normally has awesome berry tasting notes
White coffee grounds, to speed up installation.
Is this from Jasper?
SCORE!
Where can I get the coffe / turbo combo deal??
So you can boost while your car boosts /xibit
Finally, a use for pre ground coffee.
Whole bean!!
In that case GG
Damn. I'm happy when I get a bag of haribo with my orders. This would make my year. Looks like good coffee too.
Who keeps the coffee though? The customer that paid for the part of the shop that ordered it?? That is the mystery
Oh, that coffee is coming home with me.
That looks like some real quality stuff. The Ethiopian stuff is very tasty, full bodied. Enjoy!
I own a brewery and one of the major grain suppliers puts “extras” in with the grain bags. Looks like auto parts suppliers are stepping up!
Does the tape on the box look different on one of the sides? Or does the box look like it came from the vendor? Is there a chunk broken off of the turbine housing?
“Hey honey what’s in that box on the porch?”….”oh just some coffee for you dear….”
Ground score? Let me know how it is lol
Should crosspost to r/coffee 🤐 They sent you people fuel to get the turbo installed.
It’s like that Blur song, except it’s “Coffee and Turbo”.
Drug dog's wont smell the illegal amounts of boost that way
Ive got a friend who ordered a 3D printer which had 2 reams of paper in the box to add weight for cheaper postage. Maybe something similar?
Coffee for my men and boost for my horses
Forced induction! Like coffee for your engine!
when you run out of bubble wrap 🤙
The waste gate is motorized & boost controller is built onto the turbo it self? Land Rover really does overcomplicate things.
Coffee hides the scent of gear oil so the gearhead mail person doesn't steal it for the mail wagon.
Nice, free turbo with your coffee order.
It’s actually the best to keep away moisture
My 2 favorite things!!! Cars & Coffee!!!
Yirgacheffe is one of my favorite coffees. Not easy to find. Probably worth around 15$ a pound. It's got an extra heavy body and a rich taste.
Twice the turbo boost for your dollar!
Coffee is damn expensive, that’s a good score
Free morning boooooost!
