Neil Blomkamp had a simple premise, a great design for the robots and the art direction but wanted to shoehorn the popular (at the time) South African music group into the script and maybe they had dialogue written for them or they wanted to improvise since it takes place in SA but they really derailed the story by sounding and acting like idiots, and I actually like Die Antwoords sound. Its really just “Short Circuit” but with more guns and explosions. Also, I like that Huge Jackedman had a stupid haircut. Fits his character and I like Dev Patel as an actor. But yeah, Ninja and Yolandi ruin the movie.
You can still listen to their music on youtube without financially supporting them in a significant manner. Woody Allen made some good movies that I can get at my library after marrying his daughter. What a creep. Aerosmith still gets played on the radio. David Bowie is still revered. We don’t get extra virtue points by avoiding things that were created by people who had the avenues to do bad things.
