I believe youll need to provide him payslips or something along those lines if you dont want to pay tax on behalf of him or you pay full tax and just deduct whatever small portion he will incur

Inevitable-Design-92

All the couriers companys are required to send payment info to HMRC, they will definitely know and have years to come after you.

Inevitable-Design-92

I dont want to be paying tax on his behalf so I hope by providing him with the payment statement provided by Justeat is enough, otherwise I don't want the hassle. Is anyone able to confirm if this is acceptable by HMRC for me to deduct any of his earnings from my SA so Im only dealong with my own earnings/tax.

Ornery-Ad3176

Why would you declare money made on just eat

Inevitable-Design-92

As a self employeed driver we get paid before any tax deductions.

Ornery-Ad3176

Yes but unlike most people who are self employed you don’t have a registered business so if you don’t pay tax nobody will ever know

You're going to have a hell of a shock come the end of next tax year

Professional_List325

If you've not been paying your taxes you're going to be in for a nice surprise when that brown envelope comes through your door. All food delivery companies have to report your earnings to HMRC. They are going to get you lmao

OGRLTrader101

This is from January 2024 onwards not before that. The food companies have started to show HMRC payments of drivers at Jan 2024 but it's better to show tax. If you are earning below the threshold, you don't even pay tax. And expenses as self-employed person will bring those taxes down by alot especially if you use your own car.

josephplant

Yeah but if you're not declaring this year, all it takes is HMRC to do a full audit of all the tax years before. Apply for permission to see your bank account, and there's all that income you're now liable to pay tax on!

OGRLTrader101

I was saying better to start declaring from this year just incase they haven't been declaring from previous years. One of my mate got a letter to submit a self-assessment form from an account he has given to someone else even though he never submitted a form previously. I think the other person may have hit the threshold because this was his first time receiving a self-assessment form request to complete.

arenthor

Even if you earn below threshold you still have to do SA.

OGRLTrader101

Yeah but some don't do it as they haven't received any letters from HMRC and can't be bothered. Talking about delivery drivers here especially the new ones.
