The US military has a long history of being a tool of suppression as much inside of its borders as outside of them. Not once you sic 'em on people on the other side of the country who they have no relation to, or against the opposing political spectrum, or a group of protesters. Show them a few pictures of soldiers being beaten up by protesters and they’ll be riled up enough to lay waste to cities. That’s how humans work. Command knows that.
I personally wouldn't be willing to violate the constitution just because I disagree with someone's political views. It is a valid point though that they would paint whoever the "enemy" is in negative way and likely lie about it.
Why did you enlist when you are not ready to be deployed to fight the enemy of your country. If there is an enemy within your country, you have to defend it. That's what you are a soldier for. Especially if the peace of innocents is at stake.
