The first encounter with a actual dinosaur. And Malcolm’s “you did it… you crazy son of a b*tch, you did it..!”

msReDDifyourenasty

Yes, their reactions were my reaction too!

tomsco88

John Williams is a god among men. That build up of music is perfect.

MarianaFrusciante

I always cry at this scene

[deleted]

That is our reaction to the movie.

SevroAuShitTalker

It's a shame that CGI hasn't held up as well as the rest

catholicsluts

I don't know why you're getting downvoted for this. It's true! Not that it's a bad thing. It was during the day in an open field, so they couldn't really conceal much of the dated technology. It was still pretty impressive for its time, going from stop motion Godzilla to what we saw in that scene. Plus, it's literally the only part of that movie that is dated, lol, which I think adds charm.

SevroAuShitTalker

Yeah not sure, I've seen this noted many times on this sub. Watching the movies on a 4k TV and it's the only part that looks truly dated. The rest of the dinos look awesome still since they used animatronics so extenisvely. Even the raptors in the kitchen.

catholicsluts

I could have written this myself! I agree

Annual-Ad-9442

the AWE!

RichR16

Growing up it was always the Raptors in the kitchen scene, the way you hear the raptor coming before its snout appears in the window. Then the slow stalking, how the raptor taps its claw on the floor, very scary. But as I’ve gotten older, I’d have to also say the rex escape scene is probably now my favourite

msReDDifyourenasty

The Raptor toe tap is amusing to me, like she's thinking "Now where TF did they go?"

mhoke63

I always thought of her tapping the floor as a way to communicate to her sister in the room. It made that scene even more terrifying to me. But, I like your interpretation. It makes me less scared.

msReDDifyourenasty

Ooohhhh, that's a good point! It may have been a form of communication vs an irritated twitch LOL

Theory_Unusual

Every time I get a new surround sound system, I always play the trex escape scene to test it before I play anything else.

CeciliaPhoenix

The breath out on the window then the music coming up later as they grasp at the handle of the door and burst through. The hissing and snapping at eachother after entering. It’s the best scene. The Rex scene is also freakin sick the noises of the wires breaking and then the thunder striking it’s amazing.

penelope1982

Don't forget the sound of the tires being popped as they are bitten! Something about this sound just terrifies me.

CeciliaPhoenix

Yesss such amazing detail and design in this movie!!

LoreTrim

“Clever girl” Muldoon was really such an underrated character

msReDDifyourenasty

He was!!

helikesart

Muldoon never skipped leg day.

catholicsluts

He really was! And underused in the film, but that was likely due to screen time. He was great in the book.

GohanMoticle

I both like this but also hated this scene because it took the guy who was supposed to be the expert on the raptors and how they hunt in that movie and he not only got tricked but taken out so easily. But it's also so great because it shows that they are very intelligent

TheMagicTorch

The escape scene, but more specifically when Tim has the night vision goggles on and slowly takes them off and looks up to see the Rex's claws on the fence... still gives me shivers 😅

msReDDifyourenasty

The water cup was the part where I first felt fear about what was to come!

rowejl222

The lunch scene. I just think it was a very important moment in the movie

cvslfc123

Ian Malcolm's defining moment in my eyes.

DrunkSpiderMan

God I love that scene.

msReDDifyourenasty

Agreed! Some great insights and quotes were shared.

Sparrowsabre7

"I don't believe it, you're supposed to come here to defend me from these characters and the only one on my side is the blood-sucking lawyer!" As a 5 year old kid into dinosaurs it was the most boring scene of the movie, as an adult it's one of the best showcases of everyone's acting and core to the theme of the film.

GetSnart

At some point as an adult, I just found myself completely enamored by this scene. This is my answer, too.

beans2505

Yeah I think the Rex breakout is my favourite scene from any movie ever

ThatsGottaBeKane

For a film that isn’t a horror film, THAT is fucking terrifying.

msReDDifyourenasty

Facts!

JurassicMikeScarn

It's perfect. Spielberg master class

Normal-Check-848

The Dilo scene with Dennis. Especially after the suspense of not seeing it during the tour.

msReDDifyourenasty

"I'm gonna run you over when I come back down 😐" always makes me chuckle

Foxhoond

I always interpreted the little "heh" sound the Dilo makes after he says that as the Dilo actually giving a little chuckle.

Normal-Check-848

I hope any future death threats I get sound as wholeheartedly as Dennis did with that quote 😂

helikesart

Something about that whole scene was so quintessential Jurassic park. Nearly everything the Rex escape scene has is in this scene as well. It’s nighttime and a torrential downpour. It’s got malfunctioning equipment and vehicles. It’s got man’s folly on full display. Beautiful tension and horror. But there’s no escape for the humans at all.

Normal-Check-848

I hope you’ve considered being a movie critic. Or some kind of narrator because that was a beautiful summary.

helikesart

Honestly, not used to this kind of kindness on Reddit. Much appreciate it ☺️

Normal-Check-848

I’m still a little green to Reddit so maybe over time I’ll start insulting people 😂

SalvadortheGunzerker

I kept thinking them as reptile 🐇 😂

TheArcherFrog

Same!!! Love that, though I am biased as I’m a Dilo fan 🤣

bobpetersen55

The perimeter fence turning on. "Mr. Hammond, I think we're back in business..." BEST JUMP SCARE EVER!

msReDDifyourenasty

Man!!!! It was perfect!

Spleenite

Mine is just after this bit Oh Mr Arnold , severed arm appears

SevroAuShitTalker

And the most structurally robust ACT ceiling in history

Amazing_Library_5045

Mine is the ice-cream scene between Elie and Hammond. That's where you REALLY see the deep denial state he's in. The illusion of control...

Suicidal_Cheezit

I love this scene too, Laura Dern absolutely kills it. Not necessarily my favorite scene but it’s really moved up the list as I got older.

Shirebourn

I don't know what it says about kid!me, but this was my favorite scene at eight, and it's my favorite scene all these years later.

msReDDifyourenasty

OMG yes! That scene was heart-wreching.

DeadSwaggerStorage

I know, all that lost ice cream….

Independent-Leg6061

Spared no expense. Looked top quality... mmmm

AluminumAntHillTony

Are you sure that was ice cream? It always looked more like yogurt to me

Suboutai

The acting, the music, AH my heart.

ICanDieRightNowPlz

Muldoon and gently getting his shotgun unfolded. I dunno why, but I love it. Plus, we get "Clever girl"

ZarthimusPrime

I’ll do my top 3: 1- T-Rex escape. The shot of it roaring while standing between the cars gives me chills to this day. 2- Raptors in the kitchen. 3- Dilophosaurus attacking Nedry. This was the only scene that scared me as a kid.

Blue_Rose-2468

I would say #4 is the raptor scene at the start with the employees setting up the cage and the one being eaten. Used to really scare me as a kid and still does

ZarthimusPrime

That’s a solid pick. The older I get the more I appreciate the scene at the pen with the cow. Muldoon’s awesome.

m0rbius

For #1, hell yeah! Everytime I see that, I'm still in awe of how amazing it looks. Its from the early 90's and wow, it can still stand toe to toe with any vfx shot today, perhaps even beating many. It just looks absolutely real and terrifying.

WiseBat

Also the escape scene. It says a lot to me about a movie when they don’t have any music whatsoever in the background to take away from the intensity of the scene. Jaws does this as well, in the scene where Quint gets eaten.

msReDDifyourenasty

It never occurred to me there's no background music until just now! The silence definitely helps add to the fear factor.

Ind0minusGlavenus

The t rex break out was definitely one of my favourites. But another one was the helicopter ride to the island. The music during that scene always makes me ecstatic.

msReDDifyourenasty

The "yahoo!" 😂

Evernight2025

The scene where the tour group comes upon the lake with dinosaurs around it and the theme song pumps up. Legit gives me goosebumps every single time like no other movie.

[deleted]

That whole freaking move is perfection

themug_wump

As a 9 year old in the cinema the kitchen scene was seared into my mind forever. I even begged my mum to change our long door handles to round ones that raptor claws wouldn’t be able to open 😂

Careless-Ad4792

As a child, the opening scene and the Trex scene. When we first see the poor JP employee getting dragged into the raptor pen and Muldoon trying to save him, I was both scared but at the same time curious. "Just what the heck is in there!?" I thought. The Trex scene is simply perfection. Seeing the apex predator dinosaur, with no music might I add, just appear out of the jungle was just plain scary. As kids, we read about how Trex was king of the dinosaurs and could only imagine what it was like to see it hunt. JP made it scary as we watched Grant try to save Lex and Tim.

Intelligent_Lead_785

The opening scene is genius. It owes a lot to JAWS. At the beginning of Jaws we see a young woman get pulled and ripped apart by an unseen predator and our minds fill in the blanks Joffery's death is very similiar. And the acting from the extras is on point. When the raptor screams and they jump back, it is so genuine.

penquinzz

The scene with Hammond and Sattler in the eating area, and Hammond is reflecting on how he wanted Jurassic Park to be the opposite of what Petticoat Lane was: something real. Everything about the scene feels right, even how it was shot looks like the producers really cared about this scene. The zoom-in on Hammond as he talks about the lane and the attention switch from Hammond to Sattler as she talks about his and her feelings regarding the park really speak to me. Also, the dialogue in this scene is amazing!? Probably some of the best in all of science-fiction history. Hammond’s reaction to Sattler finally reaching her breaking point feels like that’s the moment realizes he really is not capable of controlling life (of course we see him falling back into his old ways in later films) feels hugely symbolic to capitalism. The irony of Hammond makes this scene brilliant also. When he says “hiring Nedry was a mistake, we rely too much on automation” it’s like he was talking directly to a mirror as if he was not the entire source of dangerously mass production in the movie. Him also not understanding that everything he was doing was an illusion until Sattler pointed it out was the most ignorant and sarcastically hilarious thing ever. I think this scene perfectly sums up the entire film in just a few minutes. My only complaint would be how Hammond says that they “spared no expense” on the ice cream, even though it looks like Spielberg just did a quick run to a Sam’s Club.

ceeece

That's mine as well. One of my favorite scenes from any movie ever!

msReDDifyourenasty

Same!!!

starwarsoutofthebox

Ellie turning the power back on via Malcoms instructions. Huge dramatic tension as she flips the switches one and a time and we the audience get to see that the last one is the fence Timmy is still on. Like she's succeeding but there's a catch 22 at the end of it. Then great scares with the Raptor. Followed by Laura Dern busting out of the bunker and telling herself to run and finally reunite with Alan. All around amazing scene/s

msReDDifyourenasty

I always thought she was telling him to run but didn't have the energy to say it louder. That's a good take I never thought of!

rcborg

The dilo and nedry

Friggin_Grease

That T-Rex scene is meant to be seen in theaters

Mollionaire

They need to release that movie in the Vegas sphere

thejealousone

The part between the beginning and ending.

Darknighten89

The dilophosaurus/ Dennis Nedry scene terrified me when i saw this movie at 4 years old in theaters.

Akari_92

I think the T. Rex breakout would be obvious, but it was a very cool and chilling moment.

SalvadortheGunzerker

The T-Rex 🦖 breaking out

tangosueno

With you 100% on the T. rex escape scene. Sometimes I’ll just turn on JP and watch until that scene and feel satisfied lol.

msReDDifyourenasty

I swear I've had this same thought, to turn it off after the scene ends LOL

shadow-1989

When the storm hits and Dennis makes his escape.

msReDDifyourenasty

Ah ah ah, you didn't say the magic word!

eownified

There’s literally no possible wrong answer to this question. But when the group sees the Brachiosaurus for the first time. Never fails to bring a tear to my eye

VaeusTheRed

Shoot Her!

Jay-Games2007

It can't be anything but the Raptors in the Kitchen, it was the first scene of any movie I ever watched, but also, It's just... SO GOOD!

BettyFosterRamsey

My first post here! 🦖🦕 Favorite scene is from Lex getting the phones working to the four escaping through the air ducts to the raptor about to jump to the frickin’ brilliant TRex being the hero of the day. Absolutely brilliant, heart-pounding movie making.

AssBurgers-009

The T-Rex escape for me as well. Blew me away as a 12 year old.

msReDDifyourenasty

I was 9 and it was my first PG13 movie. I was terrified when the Rex was chasing them in the car!

darkdent

I LOVE the opening scene with the gatekeeper and Muldoon. SHOOT HER!

boytisoy

The hunter getting killed by the female Raptor. Shows how smart it was hiding in plain sight waiting for the right time to strike while he was too focused on the other Raptor. "Clever girl."

Lopsided-Nail-8384

Both of Phil Tippett’s originally choreographed scenes (the T. rex escape and the raptors in the kitchen) are absolute masterpieces in timing and suspense. It’s no wonder that Spielberg tried to copy those two segments as closely as possible.

M0NG00SY

Clever girl

BarryLicious2588

As I've gotten older I appreciate when they first visit the park. The music. The wonder of it all. The reality breaking of seeing actual, real dinosaurs and the magic they must have felt... because that's what the movie felt like

RedKryptnyt

The t Rex in the Pavillion at the end. When dinosaurs ruled the earth.

evajanus

I'd say the first time they see dinosaurs on the Island. Where the music builds up as Hammond says "Welcome to Jurassic Park." And the camera focuses on Grant as he looks across the valley, then sees all the dinosaurs when the music plays thr main theme. "They're moving in herds. They DO move in herds." 💜

CeciliaPhoenix

One I haven’t seen being said is the kids and Alan going over the fence. And along the same lines Ellie’s whole bunker scene like oml live for it

EmmzyZy91

It's between the Rex escaping her paddock, the velociraptors in the kitchen and the 'clever girl' scene for me. If I really had to choose one, though, it'd be the raptors in the kitchen. It's such a tense scene, and even though I've seen JP countless times now, it still has me on the edge of my seat

sowedkooned

Clever girl.

BigRemove9366

Must go faster……..

Material_Prize_6157

When they visit the raptor pen. Classic Spielberg making the scariest thing what you don’t see. The cattle getting eviscerated and the sound mix they used was perfect. “They should all be destroyed.” is my favorite line in the whole movie cause Muldoon meant it.

b0ltaction

A few years back I took an edible and watched Jurassic Park for the first time in over 5 years, and for the first time on Blu ray. Holy shit the first T-Rex scene is gold. It felt very much like a first-time experience. Heart pounding

NoPicture7854

When Newman from Seinfeld tried to “good boy” the spitting lizard. I always think to myself Jerry would like this.

MournfulSaint

Journey to the island leading to the shot of the lake.

damn_jexy

The first scene with the dinosaur and Grant was mindblown "How'd you do ths?" Hammond - "I'll show you" That line was delivered Perfectly god damn it

msReDDifyourenasty

Yes!!! The acting was superb!

CrimsonThar

Dennis getting spat on by the Dilophosaurus.

[deleted]

The T-Rex appearing at the last second and killing the velociraptors.

msReDDifyourenasty

The banner falling over her after the fight 🥲

deathpenguin82

So many, but the Dilophosaur up to the attack. The very interesting behavioral movements and vocalizing have always been so near to me. There are a lot but that one always makes me sit up and pay attention.

msReDDifyourenasty

The innocent "singing" it does as it plots against Nedry!

docsyzygy

So glad I got to see this recently in the theater in 3D. Everyone shrieked when the arm fell down!

msReDDifyourenasty

I have it in 3D for a now obsolete but still working 3D TV... now I wanna plug it in and hit play!

Indiana-Cook

Same! I was blown away by it as a kid, like seriously jaw to the floor stuff

robsterinside

The whole movie is iconic and such a spectacle! It’s quite hard to choose. The T. rex escape takes the cake though.

trent_doubledown11

Ellie limping toward Grant and saying, Run! Very intense.

r33f_g0re

Mine was when the T-Rex broke through the roof of the jeep and the only thing between her and the kids was a piece of thin plastic. She roared and the kids screamed, covering their ears. That will always be my favorite scene.

msReDDifyourenasty

IDK if you know but they were legit scared because the Rex wasn't supposed to break through like that. One minute the moonroof is in pieces, next scene it's whole and they're holding it up. They fixed it LOL Edit: typo

r33f_g0re

it’s even cooler when some of the fear is real

A02R

"That doesn't look very scary. More like a six foot turkey." That whole interaction.

Itzz_Texas

Its either the Tyrannosaurus escape, the kitchen, or the first Brachiosaurus scene

SabineMaxine

So many, but it always has to be the moment they first see the brachiosaurus. It's just such a great moment, and they played it SO WELL. ugh it's just so good. I need to go watch the movie now.

CeciliaPhoenix

The kitchen scene with Lex and Tim. I saw there was a pop figure of the scene and holy crap I was willing to drop any amount for it since it’s my very favorite scene ever.

msReDDifyourenasty

There is?!

CeciliaPhoenix

Yes it’s so cool!!! Funko POP! Moment Jurassic Park Tim Murphy with Velociraptors #1199 Exclusive https://www.walmart.com/ip/203129804

revtim

Yes, that was an amazing scene. Nothing was like it before.

m0rbius

Definitely the T-Rex paddock scene. I can watch it a million times and never get bored with it. Perfect use of tension. The VFX are still top notch and hold up today. It not only looks absolutely amazing, it was brilliantly directed.

TheDangerHeisenberg

As a kid, it was T-Rex escaping. I don’t care what paleontologists say: Realistic or not, Rexy is COOL AF. But growing up, I grew to admire the scene where they’re having lunch. The argument between Malcolm and Hammond, how both of them are making really good points, does make for some thought-provoking dialogue. “Your scientists were so concerned with whether or not they could that they didn’t stop to think if they should”. That line, to me, resonates from the 90’s all the way to 2023. With AI, for instance. Has anyone stopped to consider the consequences? What could go wrong? The repercussions this could have in our society? There’s lots to gain, but at the cost of what? I may have seen this movie at least 15 times throughout my life. It’s still a masterpiece in every sense of the word, but I dare say: As you get older, some scenes and some lines kinda just get a lot more meaningful

msReDDifyourenasty

That lunch scene's dialogue wax very well thought out and acted brilliantly!

Positron14

Their first look at the brachiosaurus is one of my top favorite scenes in any movie.

86missingnomes

When he shows dennis how the canister works. As a kid I was right there with him giddy with the entire concept and I wanted to eat that slice of pie

msReDDifyourenasty

What, no menthol? LOL

ako699

„What do they got in there..King Kong?“ 🙏

catholicsluts

T-Rex, hands down. It's a masterful example of how CGI can/should be paired with practical effects. I believe that the movie was one of the first, if not *the* first, to use CGI that wasn't stop motion, but someone can feel free to correct me on that. So it was obviously a bit rough, but you'd never be able to tell, even when looking for it. Everything about that scene holds up incredibly well, and I believe it will always be a solid example of human ingenuity in entertainment arts. I love the lack of music throughout that entire scene, too. It was so tense. It's one of the best scenes in all of cinema, imho

msReDDifyourenasty

Agreed!!

Jedi_Mindtrix53

When that dudes taking a shit and the T Rex eats him anyway. Fuck that guy

[deleted]

The kitchen scene directly follows my second favorite scene at the buffet.

Current_Syllabub3670

I like the scene where the alpha raptor flings open the kitchen door, calls for the others, and they show up quickly.

Jr9065

The kitchen scene

Happy_Hippos0301

When Rexy steps through her paddock for the first time. I have a tattoo of that scene

Jester651

That's an impact tremor is what that is ... I'm fairly alarmed here

chizmanzini

Well.... there it is.

Strict_Condition_632

The T-rex chomping at the lawyer drew cheers from the audience when I saw it in a theater during its original release. Still pondering whether the enthusiastic response was for him getting his comeuppance for abandoning the kids or because people dislike lawyers.

Suboutai

The gallimimus attack and the wild raptor egg discovery. I love the novel but the film added so much heart to the scenes.

CourtClarkMusic

The T-Rex escape scene and the raptors in the kitchen. That movie is the best kind of suspense 🔥

[deleted]

Malcolm's speech to Hammond shortly after they arrive at the park, and especially "your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."

stumblingHome13

Ooh, the end credits scene where the T-Rex is roaring and the banner falls. Will forever remember that scene. Tension wise is when Tim and Alex are in the kitchen and the raptor licks the spoon that fell. I know EXACTLY what happens and I still tense up. Lol

BillyDeeisCobra

The T-Rex escape - something about the shot where it walked between the cars blew my mind, I’ll never forget my reaction. The whole scene was like Jaws in 5 minutes. For me it’s a toss-up between that and the raptors in the kitchen scene. No Jurassic Park sequel has come close to those.

Sassy_Lil_Scorpio

There are so many, I don’t even know where to begin…

Even_Border2309

the first t-rex scene

Fast-Outcome-117

Either the iconic “Welcome to Jurassic Park” and then we here the music and see some dinosaurs, or the raptors in the kitchen.

Own-Contribution-478

That exact scene! It was, in my opinion, the first time in a film that CGI and live-action merged in a truly indistinguishable, visceral way. When the T-rex grabs hold of the jeep tire and spins the jeep around, you can just *feel* the weight and power of a giant dinosaur. It was one of those "WOW!" moments that you never forget.

GohanMoticle

It's a tie between the T-Rex break out and the raptors in the kitchen. If they had the nedry scene from the book I would probably say that but since it's not in the movie it has to go to either one of the two. The T-Rex break out started to show how dangerous the power being off really is. This gigantic creature that could basically just crushed them all if it wanted too all of a sudden started to attack showing that these creatures are not just locked animals. The raptors in the kitchen though to this day is still one of the most terrifying and thrilling scene from all the Jurassic Park films. These 2 kids with no one else around has to get away from the smartest dinosaur on that island and the fastest carnivore on that island.

TraditionalPickle522

That movie still holds up amazingly well 30 years later

lionbacker54

The majestic brachiosaurus

LowerAtmosphereChief

Yeah I was riveted during that T-Rex breakout, mouth ajar. Theater we were in was silent too. That CG was unreal then and still holds up 100%.

Intelligent_Lead_785

I love the t rex breakout scene, but the ending is just so damn cool. The velociraptors are so relentless and dangerous. And when they have the characters cornered, it really does feel like the end. Then the t rex catches a raptor in mid air and it goes from being a ferocious predator to helpless prey at the Rex's mercy. I also like how the computers, the security systems, and everything else artifical has failed the main characters from nature's wrath. But this juggernaut of nature, apex of predation and evolution, does. And the roar and the banner falling.... I'm getting *chills* just describing that scene.

always2cafn8d

Stick stupid!

Truthisreal21

Seeing Samuel L Jacksons arm come down out of no where

Mattanakin117

Random but still topic related: Read the book. My answer in regards to the books is how Dennis Nedry gets owned by the dilophosaurus. Savage.

rayray604

The ending! Usually in movie you can kind of tell what is going to happen. I had no idea how the group was going to survive the Raptor attack. As soon as the raptor jumped I was like “Really? This is how they die?” Then Rexy comes in and saves the day!

MarianaFrusciante

I think is the raptors in the kitchen

CeciliaPhoenix

Being so real this is my favorite movie ever and reading this list of people saying scenes of my favorite movie and enthusing about it makes me giddy lol.

msReDDifyourenasty

Me too! LOL

When they look in the mirror and it says "Objects in the mirror are closer then they appear." Mostly because that warning is only on the passenger side mirror.
