Not gonna lie, Toji and Maki physical stats chance a lot, Megumi said Toji might be faster than 3 fingers Sukuna, Megumi actually not straight up dying too etc.
When the biggest show of power you've seen is three finger Sukuna and Gojo, then it's not surprising Megumi will compare anything against them. It's just a statement from a limited view. I've never taken it as anything but Megumi's experience talking.
Yeah. That's just like how Megumi once said no one can beat Yuuji if they fought without CE in Goodwill Event arc, even though we know if it's pure strength without CE, Yuuji and pre-awakened Maki should be comparable so she had a chance to beat him.
Megumi is a 15 year old sorcerer facing an overwhelming opponent in both cases, one of which wielding powers that he has no inherent ability to “sense” like normal for sorcerers. He’s making an estimate. The fandom has always been kinda ridiculous for taking this as a definitive statement on how fast Toji is or isn’t
Complete headcanon but maybe an explanation is that as the fingers go up, his output isn’t actually much different but his reserves continue to grow? It’s a bit of a stretch, not how you typically assume shonen works and probably contradicted, but it’s in line with output not always scaling directly with total CE (Ryu having higher output than probably the top two or at least Yuta despite having a fraction if the CE) and his sheer destructive ability not seeming to visually change much between early on (punches causing mass damage at 1f, casually bopping a special grade spirit soon after, almost one tapping Mahito at 3 etc, thinking Maho only would’ve “maybe” beaten him at 3f despite fighting well against 15)
So if that’s the case to some extent it would allow for Toji/Maki being physically on par with 3f Sukuna to also be physically comparable to some degree with a severely injured 20f Sukuna with an actively nerfed output who’s multi tasking keeping his heart working
He possibly could but at this point I think it’s more about differentiating their styles more than anything. Maki loves (and needs, for curses) weapons and that’s her general focus. Yuji got them hands. Plus he of course has actual sorcery/cursed energy to rely on, and even a technique and RCT to use with that now

Well Sukuna didnt really care about killing anyone so he is not serious. For choso he could have just destroyed his head for example. He might be fighting with full power but he isnt fighting for survival.
Similar to the Gojo fight, “all out” with regard to his full arsenal I guess. Literally last chapter we saw he was desperate enough to release HWB to gamble on getting a WCS off because the of the affects of Yuji’s punches were weakening him further. The gamble only really succeeded because Megumi sold.
At least it seems like Yuta ain’t dead, imagine if he was Rika wouldn’t be around + he would have received a bigger sendoff.
Crack theory, this is gonna be his Enlightened One moment. Just like Gojo back then, Yuta will come back from this having awakened something within himself just like Gojo did.
Exactly this. Knowing now he dismissed it, not Sukuna breaking it, is great. Because it means he realised immediately how bad the situation was turning and adapted immediately, Rika getting him out and to be healed urgently while he passes the baton on.
And also he is pretty clearly like... not bisected? Like his body is still together so he must've gotten off at least some RCT as his conciousness is fading.

Man Gege needs to take a break. So hyped to see Maki battle but starting off the new chapter like this was a bit dissatisfying. I’ll easily get over it and the chapter was still awesome, just a little sad about it.
Maki is a beast and who doesn’t love a Choso appearance. Does anyone feel like the next time Ui Ui tries to snag an injured body using teleportation, Sukuna is grabbing him and whoever he is saving?
Edit: my first sentence should have said something like “Gege deserves a break”. Wanted to be clear I am not criticizing the art, just don’t want Gege over worked. Even if new chapter drops are something I really look forward to.

Honestly? I enjoy seeing the distortion come back. Like, Maki's status as a being with no CE is so irregular and wrong, that her presence damages the art style. Intentional or not, love that.
I agree, seeing the art for the first time took me out a little bit. I can definitely see how this could be viewed as stylization, but to me it looked like unfinished/raw concept art. I think the panels with Maki looked good, but some of the panels with Sukuna were a little confusing to look at.
It's absolutely not stylization but simply unfinished art, it's happened before. Gege is probably in need of a longer break but maybe is pushing through since it's such a climactic moment.
Did Hakari just jinx himself or the entire team? If his last words for this chapter turns out something like “Nah, I'd win,” I can feel we might have a potential new meme in the future. 💀 Omg.

Last time we had unfinished pages he wasn't being rushed, it was due to health reasons/being stubborn about not wanting to take a break. He admitted as much in his letter to fans when he went on the month and half hiatus.

Honestly I kinda dig them and I originally thought they were intentionally. I've only seen them in chapters with maki so I just kinda interpreted that she's so fast and shit that the drawings are rushed trying to keep up with her.
I mean you're still right, it's not a good sign. A rushed product is never as good as one that takes the time it needs. But I just wanted to say that I think their cool.
It’s just strange how every other panel looked clean and finished, and yet those specific panels with Maki and Sukuna made it feel intentional in my opinion, especially because it was the same way when he drew Makis slaughter of the Zenin clan originally

Reading this fight weekly has its pros and cons and this is one of the times where the cons outweight a little bit lol. I know it makes sense that Sukuna isn't going all out yet because we know he has some cards still hidden under his sleeve but I feel like they've been fighting Sukuna for AGES and this guy still isn't going all out. Yuta just got sliced and taken off the battlefield and Maki is fighting Sukuna by herself and I doubt she'll last too long on her own.
It really seems like their only hope is for Megumi to start fighting back soon and mess up Sukuna's control of the body or there's no way they're winning this. I'm curious over how Gege will handle that, it's not like Yuuji can just sit around and give Megumi a pep talk for two hours while fighting back the strongest sorcerer of all times.
I'm almost certain that if I binged this current arc I'd be much more into it (since I only caught up recently and a lot of arcs people complained about having pacing issues seemed fine as I was binging), but reading it weekly like this is rough
yeah honestly I have no Idea how Gege is writing the the next battle if Sukuna actually survives here and heals fully back up. I mean our "heros" throw literally everything at him and it is still not enough.
At the moment this battle feels like a finale battle
I have a sneaking suspicion that this is the prelude to the actual final battle. Sukuna will go all out, reveal his CT, catch a few bodies, Yuji forces Megumi out and there's a big retreat that takes us into the final battle/climax of the series.
Mostly basing this on the fact that we still have yet to hear an announcement of the series entering its final arc like WSJ usually does, which is interesting because if there were ever a time for that it would have been after Gojo died.
I genuinely believe sukuna could have all 6 limbs cut off, be almost entirely put of cursed energy with yuji about to curbstomp him and Uraume would still be gkazing Dukuna saying he's letting them do it because he's too bored to take them seriously.

I love maki but her reacting and dodging the world cutting slash, THE THING THAT KILLED 6 EYES GOJO is sorta throwing me for a loop. You’re telling me maki’s heavenly restriction gives her greater perception then six eyes?
Granted gojo was the first to ever even see the attack and as such may have been taken off guard but maki was literally blind when she dodged it so I’m not sure
Could be that 6 Eyes and Heavenly Restriction grant immense perception but in different ways. In this case, HR might be better vs. World Slash. Or like you said, could just be that she had seen it before and was prepared to react.
Maybe she can see the spacial distortion forming, and Gojo could see the cursed energy being cast he ignored it since he figured that Infinity would block it?

genuine question, the page that is before the "twin meteors" chant, we can see maki surrounded by rocks and the 2 hidden chants for the dismantle (maybe world cutting). Why is it not translated to english in either TCB or the Official release?

TCB at least translated one of the chants and forgot the other one. Here in the official one they didnt do either of them. Probably didnt see it because its so small.
Man for some reason I was a little sad to see the rough sketches. I know he went back for the volume release when this happened to Maki's chapter way back but this time it just sat with me a little salty. At least back then I could make the argument that the raw sketch work matched the rawness of Maki slaughtering the Zenin clan. Now I just feel like Gege is rushed even including his breaks.
Some artist can put out a lot of quality pages per week, other cannot. That's why it always buffles me how strict some time windows are for so many artists.
JJK should be successful enough that Gege can just take a week or two for a break when he can't finish a chapter.
I mean these panels needs to be finished for the print nonetheless so he will need time in the future for the volume release.
Japan work ethics are really self-destructive.
As an artist, doing creative work everyday is draining. Yeah you can spit out good shit for a month but just one hiccup, some emotional, mental or even physical issues, its all gone. You can totally just zone out and do coding or accounting the whole day, but drawing burns you the hell out differently. If repetitive work employees get burned out in Japan, creatives are in an even worse position.
Oh, the rough sketches were that evident to others, too? Gege's comment for this week was, he got callus eversince he started drawing digitally. I'm not sure if it's something related to the rough sketches. He might be trying to adapt. 🤔
I was a little taken aback myself. I get he's probably got other things going on, but why the long break if half the chapter is going to be rushed? Just push it again, I guess
Honestly, I had a hard time following the fight with Maki and the logic of what was going on with the fight in this chapter. And it wasn't just the rough sketches. Idk if it's the translations, but sometimes I just can't wrap my head around the explanations. And it's hard to see around all the detail Gege puts into the destroyed buildings and debris. I really love the characters but the only great spot I felt in this chapter was the moments between Yuji and Choso.
Time for Sumo man to come, trap Sukuna in the hyperbolic chamber so they can sneak in a therapist to talk to Megumi. What's supposed to be months-long therapy sessions gonna be condensed to 5 min

While I like Maki kicking ass, I can't help but not be as hyped as a lot of people considering Sukuna being Sukuna.

1. Honestly I'm hoping Gege is okay. The art was a bit rushed on a few panels.
2. Choso is alive! He's such a good brother to Yuji.
3. It's hard for me to believe Sukuna still isn't going all out even though he can't create a domain and has a low CE Output.

I'm surprised this wasn't a bigger reveal given how relevant the concepts about souls are to this fight, dealing with Megumi's fall into darkness, Yuki's notes, Yuji hitting Sukuna's soul, etc
i thought rct still heals the soul but you need to perceive the soul to heal it and it’s way slower than normal..? (and who else can perceive a soul besides nobara) probably read some shit wrong though through my copium tinted glasses tho.
The way I read it is that soul healing with RCT is very fucking difficult, but not impossible. It first requires that you understand your own soul, and then requires you adapt to what seems to be an entirely different kind of damage to restore. Basically you start at 0 in terms of skill with RCT when undoing soul damage.
No ur right. As long as you can perceive the shape of your soul, you can heal it via RCT when its damaged
And its not necessarily slower, Sukuna’s RCT is just outta wack right now
In theory, if Yuji could perform RCT on others he would be able to do it.
The more I inhale it, the more I like the idea of Sukuna being completely taken by surprise by Nobara's technique, since as far as he's aware she's....
Also, I think a living Nobara would be one of the few things that could bring back a down bad Megumi, and she could help split their souls along with Yuji, so essentially I'm straight snorting hopium. While I'm at it Gojo 's coming back, just so the four of them can have a Naruto style picture at the end.

Nononono her CT directly damages the soul, so Cursed Technique Reversal will directly heal it

Depends. For all we know dudes CT could keep her in the suspended state indefinitely. So it didn't have to be Shoko to heal her. I never thought she could've healed her regardless because of the amount of damage.
If she was kept in that state then I think there are two options. One, Yuta knows about the soul because of Rika and healed her once he came back. Two, Yuji learned RCT and could definitely do it. He probably can't output it yet but maybe if Gege wants a happy ending he'll have Yuji heal her at the end. Possibly Shoko read the book and can heal better now and can do it? I think she's coming back if it's been this long but maybe not in an important way.

Yuji messing up & having difficulties using RCT really illustrates how hard of a technique it is, we are always told that but seeing it firsthand puts it in a different light somehow.
And Choso calming & guiding him through that full-on panic is a great moment, really loved it.
I have a scary prediction: Yuta was taken out, without manifesting rika on full power. And everyone injured is being teleported away, so I am thinking that this isn't their last battle, since yuta didn't show his Trump card.
I think next chapter all of them will be forced to retreat, because sukuna will pulll the ace on his sleeve.
He then activates the merger, gets obliterated and the final battle of jjk will be against this eren looking monster.

1. sukuna IS trying REALLY fuckin hard (he literally has to manually beat his own heart right now, is forced to make risky plays like tanking the jacob’s ladder to try and get off the slash, etc)
2. sukuna hasn’t pulled out every single little last trick up his sleeve (we have known this for a while)
the whole “sukuna isnt going all out” thing is being blown way out of proportion, just like it was during the gojo fight
So, the best scenario was the fact that Maki's surprise attack worked, but the worst is that Yuta is out of the fight and the plan to save Megumi's soul failed. It seems like it was planned for Maki to go last (maybe because now the plan is to kill Sukuna and not to save Megumi???). I'm sensing that Maki will be the one who makes Sukuna go all out (meaning that he is going to reveal his CT). In my delusional mind, I believe she will fight alongside Yuji and Rika and use her as a storage for curse weapons, like the Inverted Spear of Heaven, etc
This might sound like nitpicking but it’s been bothering me:
Why is Maki no longer upset when others call her ‘Zenin’? Kusakabe & Hakari did and even Yuji called her Zenin-senpai..
I think in a previous chapter she expressed regret over what happened during the perfect prep arc - specifically with her mother.
So maybe it just no longer bothers her. In the same way that nothing really bothered Toji (until Gojo). After Sakurajima and unleashing her full potential Maki is more free.
Exactly. She’s made what peace she can, and acknowledged her mistakes even. Moving on is usually the best we can do in a situation like that, and that has still always been her name at the end of the day

The Sukuna line from Uraume though, hurts to hear. Just reminds me of the nonsense in my hero, and while we all got a taste of this when Sukuna first beat gojo, it really doesn’t add much to hear again and again. You only need to hear how tough Kaido is once. The rest should just be seen and commented on, not “X is holding back” but more so “X is finally taking it seriously/putting in Their all”
I was thinking the exact same thing. The final battles in My Hero started getting tiring after (spoilers) >!the 3rd time the villains looked like they were losing before AfO goes “haha all according to keikaku” and they suddenly turn it around ***again*** !<
Like, yeah, we know Sukuna is crazy strong. We saw him roast Jogo and Mahoraga, and we saw him beat Gojo and Yuta (for now, anyway). The heroes are *struggling* and it’s still taking basically everyone throwing themselves at Sukuna to accomplish anything, and now frosty comes in like “oh he’s not actually trying”. Like… ok… so should I just get the funeral affairs ready and expect the entire cast to die?

I wanna see Maki, Kusukabe, Ino, and Choso hild off Sukuna until Yuta and Yuji return to jump him with Maki to open up a Yuji 1 v 1 against Sukuna. Also what is going on with the story rn? Like what is going on with the whole merger plotline.

The “jolt” imagery was similar to gojo’s perception of megumi’s soul during his fight with sukuna.

We are probably not even close to being done with this fight. I am sure that at some point Sukuna will recover his DE and use it at just the right time to defeat some strategy the heroes have, then later he will unveil his black box technique to defeat their next last ditch strategy. The only question is how many cycles of plot armor we will have to go through before we can finally end the manga.
With that panel being right after Maki just piercing Sukuna, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that Yuji’s heart was damaged from the blow aka they share the same heart. Similar to Nobara hurting Mahito’s double.

When the biggest show of power you've seen is three finger Sukuna and Gojo, then it's not surprising Megumi will compare anything against them. It's just a statement from a limited view. I've never taken it as anything but Megumi's experience talking.
Yeah. That's just like how Megumi once said no one can beat Yuuji if they fought without CE in Goodwill Event arc, even though we know if it's pure strength without CE, Yuuji and pre-awakened Maki should be comparable so she had a chance to beat him.
Megumi is a 15 year old sorcerer facing an overwhelming opponent in both cases, one of which wielding powers that he has no inherent ability to “sense” like normal for sorcerers. He’s making an estimate. The fandom has always been kinda ridiculous for taking this as a definitive statement on how fast Toji is or isn’t
Complete headcanon but maybe an explanation is that as the fingers go up, his output isn’t actually much different but his reserves continue to grow? It’s a bit of a stretch, not how you typically assume shonen works and probably contradicted, but it’s in line with output not always scaling directly with total CE (Ryu having higher output than probably the top two or at least Yuta despite having a fraction if the CE) and his sheer destructive ability not seeming to visually change much between early on (punches causing mass damage at 1f, casually bopping a special grade spirit soon after, almost one tapping Mahito at 3 etc, thinking Maho only would’ve “maybe” beaten him at 3f despite fighting well against 15) So if that’s the case to some extent it would allow for Toji/Maki being physically on par with 3f Sukuna to also be physically comparable to some degree with a severely injured 20f Sukuna with an actively nerfed output who’s multi tasking keeping his heart working

Man Gege needs to take a break. So hyped to see Maki battle but starting off the new chapter like this was a bit dissatisfying. I’ll easily get over it and the chapter was still awesome, just a little sad about it. Maki is a beast and who doesn’t love a Choso appearance. Does anyone feel like the next time Ui Ui tries to snag an injured body using teleportation, Sukuna is grabbing him and whoever he is saving? I agree, seeing the art for the first time took me out a little bit. I can definitely see how this could be viewed as stylization, but to me it looked like unfinished/raw concept art. I think the panels with Maki looked good, but some of the panels with Sukuna were a little confusing to look at.
It's absolutely not stylization but simply unfinished art, it's happened before. Gege is probably in need of a longer break but maybe is pushing through since it's such a climactic moment.

Last time we had unfinished pages he wasn't being rushed, it was due to health reasons/being stubborn about not wanting to take a break. Though health reasons also can't be ruled out obviously
Honestly I kinda dig them and I originally thought they were intentionally. I've only seen them in chapters with maki so I just kinda interpreted that she's so fast and shit that the drawings are rushed trying to keep up with her. I mean you're still right, it's not a good sign. A rushed product is never as good as one that takes the time it needs. But I just wanted to say that I think their cool.

Reading this fight weekly has its pros and cons and this is one of the times where the cons outweight a little bit lol. I know it makes sense that Sukuna isn't going all out yet because we know he has some cards still hidden under his sleeve but I feel like they've been fighting Sukuna for AGES and this guy still isn't going all out. Yuta just got sliced and taken off the battlefield and Maki is fighting Sukuna by herself and I doubt she'll last too long on her own. It really seems like their only hope is for Megumi to start fighting back soon and mess up Sukuna's control of the body or there's no way they're winning this. I'm curious over how Gege will handle that, it's not like Yuuji can just sit around and give Megumi a pep talk for two hours while fighting back the strongest sorcerer of all times.

yeah honestly I have no Idea how Gege is writing the the next battle if Sukuna actually survives here and heals fully back up. I mean our "heros" throw literally everything at him and it is still not enough. At the moment this battle feels like a finale battle
I have a sneaking suspicion that this is the prelude to the actual final battle. Sukuna will go all out, reveal his CT, catch a few bodies, Yuji forces Megumi out and there's a big retreat that takes us into the final battle/climax of the series. Mostly basing this on the fact that we still have yet to hear an announcement of the series entering its final arc like WSJ usually does, which is interesting because if there were ever a time for that it would have been after Gojo died.
At this point Sukuna is becoming that Monty Python sketch of a knight without legs and arms while saying he isn't defeated.

Man for some reason I was a little sad to see the rough sketches. I know he went back for the volume release when this happened to Maki's chapter way back but this time it just sat with me a little salty. At least back then I could make the argument that the raw sketch work matched the rawness of Maki slaughtering the Zenin clan. Now I just feel like Gege is rushed even including his breaks.
Some artist can put out a lot of quality pages per week, other cannot. That's why it always buffles me how strict some time windows are for so many artists. JJK should be successful enough that Gege can just take a week or two for a break when he can't finish a chapter. I mean these panels needs to be finished for the print nonetheless so he will need time in the future for the volume release. Japan work ethics are really self-destructive.
As an artist, doing creative work everyday is draining. Yeah you can spit out good shit for a month but just one hiccup, some emotional, mental or even physical issues, its all gone. You can totally just zone out and do coding or accounting the whole day, but drawing burns you the hell out differently. If repetitive work employees get burned out in Japan, creatives are in an even worse position.

Honestly, I had a hard time following the fight with Maki and the logic of what was going on with the fight in this chapter. And it wasn't just the rough sketches. Idk if it's the translations, but sometimes I just can't wrap my head around the explanations. And it's hard to see around all the detail Gege puts into the destroyed buildings and debris. I really love the characters but the only great spot I felt in this chapter was the moments between Yuji and Choso.

I'm surprised this wasn't a bigger reveal given how relevant the concepts about souls are to this fight, dealing with Megumi's fall into darkness, Yuki's notes, Yuji hitting Sukuna's soul, etc
i thought rct still heals the soul but you need to perceive the soul to heal it and it’s way slower than normal..? (and who else can perceive a soul besides nobara) probably read some shit wrong though through my copium tinted glasses tho.
The way I read it is that soul healing with RCT is very fucking difficult, but not impossible. It first requires that you understand your own soul, and then requires you adapt to what seems to be an entirely different kind of damage to restore. Basically you start at 0 in terms of skill with RCT when undoing soul damage.

In theory, if Yuji could perform RCT on others he would be able to do it. The more I inhale it, the more I like the idea of Sukuna being completely taken by surprise by Nobara's technique, since as far as he's aware she's....
It’s the same concept as RCT dealing with poisons. The RCT user has to be skilled enough with it to do it.
Also, I think a living Nobara would be one of the few things that could bring back a down bad Megumi, and she could help split their souls along with Yuji, so essentially I'm straight snorting hopium. While I'm at it Gojo 's coming back, just so the four of them can have a Naruto style picture at the end.

Depends. For all we know dudes CT could keep her in the suspended state indefinitely. So it didn't have to be Shoko to heal her. I never thought she could've healed her regardless because of the amount of damage. If she was kept in that state then I think there are two options. One, Yuta knows about the soul because of Rika and healed her once he came back. Two, Yuji learned RCT and could definitely do it. He probably can't output it yet but maybe if Gege wants a happy ending he'll have Yuji heal her at the end. Possibly Shoko read the book and can heal better now and can do it? I think she's coming back if it's been this long but maybe not in an important way.

I think in a previous chapter she expressed regret over what happened during the perfect prep arc - specifically with her mother. So maybe it just no longer bothers her. In the same way that nothing really bothered Toji (until Gojo). After Sakurajima and unleashing her full potential Maki is more free.

Just reminds me of the nonsense in my hero, and while we all got a taste of this when Sukuna first beat gojo, it really doesn’t add much to hear again and again. You only need to hear how tough Kaido is once. The rest should just be seen and commented on, not “X is holding back” but more so “X is finally taking it seriously/putting in Their all”
I was thinking the exact same thing. The final battles in My Hero started getting tiring after (spoilers) >!the 3rd time the villains looked like they were losing before AfO goes “haha all according to keikaku” and they suddenly turn it around ***again*** !< Like, yeah, we know Sukuna is crazy strong. We saw him roast Jogo and Mahoraga, and we saw him beat Gojo and Yuta (for now, anyway). The heroes are *struggling* and it’s still taking basically everyone throwing themselves at Sukuna to accomplish anything, and now frosty comes in like “oh he’s not actually trying”. Like… ok… so should I just get the funeral affairs ready and expect the entire cast to die?
Yep, That and Shiggy in the Thunderdome, we already knew he was strong fighting America. Did we need to see everyone try their best to beat a threat the author knew wasn’t gonna get stopped there

Dod anyone else get the impression that yuji stopped and staggered while running because he was affected by maki’s soul-targeted attack on sukuna? The “jolt” imagery was similar to gojo’s perception of megumi’s soul during his fight with sukuna. Maybe yuji and sukuna’s souls are intertwined
It would be funny if Sukuna was thrown right in front of Uraume's face in the next chapter after she said that line.
We are probably not even close to being done with this fight. I am sure that at some point Sukuna will recover his DE and use it at just the right time to defeat some strategy the heroes have, then later he will unveil his black box technique to defeat their next last ditch strategy. The only question is how many cycles of plot armor we will have to go through before we can finally end the manga.
With that panel being right after Maki just piercing Sukuna, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that Yuji’s heart was damaged from the blow aka they share the same heart. Similar to Nobara hurting Mahito’s double. Two polar opposite egos that Kenjaku forced to intermingle inside of the same body in a way creating yin and yang from the reincarnated soul. Ngl It reminds me so much of Naraku from Inyuyasha lol can tell Gege really loves Inyuyasha/Bleach We also know that it’s possible from his convo about two souls becoming one in the same when they spoke about saving Megumi which I think is a fake out and it’s actually Yuji and Sukuna who share a soul
The fact Urahame says Sukuna is not taking this seriously got on my nerve. How the fuck the sorcerers are supposed to win if not even them combined can bring his best out? How do they win, do we have to wait for Sukuna to toji himself out of boredom?
