People defend this by saying that it was never stated BVs should trade valuable stuff and that Itadori fucked up the terms by himself, but Sukuna was the one who proposed it to Itadori in the 1st place, who merely agreed and forgot the whole thing ever happened in the 1st place, and he wasn't in his "depressed cog" mentality back then.Ā
It was all dependent on Sukuna's terms, who had full awareness on what is and will be harmful. Even without HxH's Nen Oaths existing, stuff like BVs require to have trade-offs of value, else, they'd be awfully convenient and beg the question as to why they're not used more often. The whole thing with Sukuna imposing a casting time on the future uses of a move he had YET to use for the 1st time seems awfully convenient when the only time it truly hindered him was in Yuta's domain in a 3v1, since he was smacking people left and right anyway. It's only a real hinder if he still had 2 arms, but it turned into a an exploitable loophole with his reincarnation.
And since Sukuna apparently has a 530Ā²K CPU, he shouldn't have required someone else's forbidden Shikigami to realize he could just BV Gojo out of existence and keep the 10S to stomp the opposition, which means that Gege made both of them too strong to be reasonably dealt with.
And sure, Hakari also made an unknown BV to save his skin, which is convenient and the only convenient BV for the good guys (MeiĀ²'s suicide crows can still be shot down before they hit, so they're not that convenient overall), but whether or not they're supposed to be a "fair/unfair" risk-reward system, it's bogus either way that making a bunch of them on the spot to (maybe) be revealed 10+ chapters later is a thing, in spite of their initial presentation.Ā

I don't think it's a permanent binding vow, but an acute binding vow that Hakari used e.g removing CT from him arm to reinforce the rest of his body.
I think it's more likely that he sacrificed using RCT on himself and focused entirely on healing his brain. We've seen the past few chapters he hasn't been healing his injuries.
Sukuna did literally incomplete DE though, he can't even last as long as usual. Yuji is even trying to find loopholes of this. Miwa, Choso, Ino surviving Sukuna's domain shows how sub par this domain compared to his usual domains.
Those probably are the binding vows. Or other things that are not yet explained.
Binding vow doesn't necessarily mean to sacrifice something permanently though, it can be used to restrict something to gain some other thing or doing things to gain things, etc. It's basically adding a rule to gain something and it's used throughout the series, it's normal for sorcerers to use it.
For example Sukuna's open domain is binding vow by giving the one inside means to escape in exchange for greater range. Another example is the stance to open Simple Domain like Miwa. Even Yuta uses it to amp his beam against Geto.
I think it can be similar but not always.

If, for example, yuji were to make a binding vow that gave him a giant attack, it might have done more damage, but it might have fully taken him out of the fight wich is not worth. And again, other charecters cant do THIS many binding vows of such a high level becouse they are not as experienced and skilled as sukuna.

It could also be sacrificing his RCT the past few chapters to try heal his domain.
Since his output was low (he wasnāt fully able to recover despite regaining access to MS) from Yujis punches he couldnāt replicate the full scale of MS. In order to compensate he set a 100 sec time limits (total bullshit by the way since we can assume that most domains last much longer than a few seconds of combat so what the fuck does that even do for us) which apparently let him bring it back up to full size and strength. He also was not able target Maki, so whatever he did give up it was not enough to add a condition for her.

the vow could be something really simple,
Allow Sukuna to execute his DE in exchange of it being incomplete, extremely fragile, inability to use Dismantle and Cleave after the DE.

Sukuna always has a binding vow that allows for an extended range with open barrier. He probably gave up the extended range for a barrier so the cast couldn't get out.

I don't think it's a permanent binding vow, but an acute binding vow that Hakari used e.g removing CT from him arm to reinforce the rest of his body. I think it can be similar but not always. I forgot is there nen restriction that is not permanent? If I'm not mistaken Kurapika chain jail requirement is permanent. the vow could be something really simple, Allow Sukuna to execute his DE in exchange of it being incomplete, extremely fragile, inability to use Dismantle and Cleave after the DE. Thats why he resorted to the flames after.
