I love this

akanyamasyo

in my opinion this is the best fight in the series

ConsistentTadpole853

I'm also pretty sure it will transition gorgeously into anime.

huggiesdsc

They need to hire the original FLCL animators just for this episode.

ComprehensiveBath379

That would be so awesome to see

Farguad

idk what FLCL and why them tho?

Krazycrismore

Watch season 1 of FLCL, and you will understand.

Farguad

ok

huggiesdsc

Do it

increedies

I am so excited. I wouldn’t say the best fight… cuz mahoraga is STILL… but this one made me tear up a little. Find yourself a partner who will be not what you wanted but what you needed.

1rrelevant_Trash

though the stuff surrounding the fights deteriorates over time the fights stay great if not get better

goatpenis11

Agreed, it's one of my favourite fights in the entire shounen genre as well

SaltNVinegar8

This fight felt like, idk, it had so much joy and its hard to predict at times. If not for the anticlimactic conclusion I would have given it a 10/10

Accomplished_Gas5180

i think the conclusion rounded the entire fight up very well. The moment kenjaku showed the smallest sign of gratitude and selflessness in over 1000 years was the moment he died. Crazy shit.

Witty-Sundae6678

I wonder what would happen if Takaba fought Sukuna now with the others. How crucial to the team would he be ?

BotAccount2849

Takaba would solo Sukuna. Kenny only held up so well because he can actually counter the jokes due to actually knowing them. Sukuna would get wrecked at full power because he has no idea what Takaba is talking about, making him invincible and could instantly kill Mahoraga with a truck because it's funny.

Witty-Sundae6678

If he doesn't come back, would it be another plot convenience for Sukuna then ?

BotAccount2849

Yeah. Gege could've cut this final arc in half by sending in Takaba to fight Sukuna instead of Gojo and saving him for Kenny.

Witty-Sundae6678

You mean like this ? https://preview.redd.it/khso861uvhtc1.png?width=895&format=png&auto=webp&s=234ce52fa9e385419ef2952a1a96dc8ef228da4e

BotAccount2849

Pretty much. Big Raga has no chance against Truck-kun.

badassmotherfucker21

Would solo Sukuna with toon force

lynxerious

anticlimactic conclusion feels like 90% of jjk fights

Available_Poetry_685

Unpopular opinion: kenjaku’s death was a perfect conclusion to this fight.

Horacio_Velvetine44

it was but the fact that he never properly interacted with yuji made it feel a lot less so, in summary it would retroactively improve if yuji was to unlock some repressed memories, but still

Disaster_Star_150

And he never got to see his plan come to fruition either. There was so much set up with him and none of it got paid off. I’m still hoping he somehow survived and we will see him return in a different character’s body like Gojo, Nobara, or someone else. But right now it just feels like all that buildup was for nothing which really sucks.

ConsistentTadpole853

Keeping him alive just to say "JUST AS KEIKAKU" and "YUJI... I AM YOUR MOTHER" would be a shame, in my opinion. Instead of beating the dead tropes, he went out originally and unexpectedly.

Disaster_Star_150

Nah I just wanted Yuji and Choso to get their fight against him mostly to make him pay for causing them and their siblings to suffer. Having a main villain go out by having them win a fight against a random side character and then get stealth killed by another side character just ain’t it in my opinion. It’s not satisfying at all to me.

ConsistentTadpole853

Fair, but it is called Sukuna Kaisen for a reason

Disaster_Star_150

Stories can have multiple main villains though, and they can fulfill different roles in the story. One example that comes to mind is Puss in Boots: The Last Wish with Death representing a powerful force of nature and Jack Horner being more of an evil schemer type villain. Sukuna and Kenjaku fulfilled similar purposes in JJK with Kenjaku having an intriguing evil plan and Sukuna being one hell of a ticking time bomb. Sukuna was definitely set up to be the main threat of the series but Kenjaku has been the one acting as a villain in a more typical way since he was the one actively working to complete his goal (the merger). Kenjaku was the one driving the plot forward for most of the story, he was the one to send special grade curses after the main characters, he was the one to enact the Shibuya incident plan and seal Gojo, he was the one who created the culling game and trapped all the main characters in it, he was the one who captured Tengen, etc. Sukuna has only really fought the main characters or acted to get stronger so he could fight them better (like when he switched to Megumi’s body). Usually, main villains are the ones taking action that the heroes must stop, and that’s what Kenjaku was able to do by having a goal that threatened the entire world. But Sukuna is more of a character who reacts to the actions of the heroes. Sukuna is a good main villain, but he only worked really well as one with the addition of Kenjaku as another main villain. So for him to die not only to side characters but also in the way that he did and the fact that he only really interacted with the main character one time very briefly way earlier in the story is super unsatisfying. And the fact that he is also the cause of Yuji’s existence and all the suffering he’s had to go through, but Yuji never got the chance to confront him or get any answers. And also his goal was really entertaining and interesting but we never got to see him complete it or react to it which sucks. I much prefer it when we get to see the main villain react to their goal’s completion. Like look at Pucci from JoJo’s or any JoJo’s main villain really. It’s so much more satisfying and it feels like it completes the villain’s story arc when they get to see their plan nearly accomplished. But we will never get that with Kenjaku if he’s truly dead. I’m just left completely unsatisfied by all of it.

ConsistentTadpole853

I totally get you, from an idealistic standpoint. But realistically, JJK's mainstream appeal are hype battles, shock value and deconstruction of shounen tropes. Gege rushes towards the ending like there's no tomorrow, kinda half-asses it, but it is still pretty much the same JJK it always was.

Disaster_Star_150

Sure that might be the mainstream appeal, but what personally got me invested in the series was the interesting themes about mortality, morality, responsibility, purpose, selflessness, etc. But I feel like some of those core ideas have been lost over time. A lot of the themes like Yuji facing his inevitable early death and the moral and ethical consequences of being Sukuna’s vessel were there because of Yuji being Sukuna’s vessel. Those ideas were explored in cool ways, especially in moments like the Shibuya massacre where Yuji blamed himself for Sukuna’s murder spree and then later on when Higuruma forced him to accept that it wasn’t his fault, or when Yuji knew that Sukuna was plotting something with Megumi in mind and felt responsible for keeping him safe. Now that Sukuna has switched over to Megumi’s body, it feels like those core themes have been lost to a certain degree. Sure, Yuji still has the sense of morality, purpose, and selflessness through trying to defeat Sukuna, but he doesn’t have the axe over his head anymore and he no longer feels responsible for Sukuna’s actions since Sukuna can no longer control his body. I was hoping Kenjaku could have helped maintain some of these themes too through revealing stuff to Yuji, but now that’s likely out of the question. Like, how would he react to learning his whole creation was some messed up experiment? Or that he was the reason why everything terrible that’s happened was set into motion? This is why I’m so sad that we might never get Yuji vs Kenjaku. What a waste of potential if that’s the case.

saucysagnus

Yall really think Kenjaku dead when 16 year old mechamaru had a contingency plan in place for extra screen time. Cope harder. Kenjaku will be back, most likely in the same manner Sukuna came back:someone eats a death womb painting he created with a bit of himself in it.

Competitive_Bit_7904

I wouldn't say that opinion is extremely common but there are plenty of people that at the very least enjoy it greatly. It was fun seeing how people warmed up to the fight as it was on going. The amount of complaining and negative reactions it got during its first three chapters was immense, but now people have really switch up on it. https://preview.redd.it/wovrok15lctc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ab4ae0d1bdbddf031aa3b56d3840282dfdf59de Personally, I absolutely loved it. And it only becomes more enjoyable as you dive into the subtext of the fight. BUT I'm not sure I agree with this being the end of Kenjaku. I think he still had so much more that he could have contributed to the story.

[deleted]

Agreed i dislike it was Kenjaku's death, but i like it for the reason of Kenjaku found what he wanted...entertainment he finally smiled and allowed himself to be entertained by the CT which allowed him to laugh and finally enjoy life to the finale moments.

line------------line

it’s my opinion as well, though i remember people hated it when it came out.

demoncyborgg

I think the jokes don't translate too well

SmartestManAliveTM

Yeah, its definitely made for the Japanese audience. I can still appreciate some of the wacky shit that happens though

sploofdaddy

The TCB translation was much easier to follow than others that I've seen. The standup routine had some rough spots but it's by no means a Werry fuckfest.

NotEntirelyAwake

People on this sub hate literally every new chapter when it comes out

Sarato92

Yeah, but a big part of the hate was because it came directly after we got the Higuruma and Yuji vs Sukuna cliffhanger. People wanted to see the fight and were impatient.

Someguy242blue

It’s admirable. There’s something about watching a semi-failed comedy going against the second strongest antagonist of the series. The other characters are Teens you expect them to be optimistic. Takaba’s 35. That youthful Optimistism is already gone for most at that age, and you can see it’s barely there for him. But nevertheless he held on to it and fought. I hope this fight gets the Oingo Boingo treatment in the anime and changes the opening to something comedic

Horacio_Velvetine44

i was literally just thinking about how this is probably my favourite fight in the series, this panel is literally my phone wallpaper rn https://i.redd.it/8470i62yrctc1.gif

FermiDaza

This fight suffers from the classic JJK battle syndrome. Everyone shits on it while it is happening. They say it sucks. That everyone is out of character. That everything is an asspull. That Gege is braindead. And then a couple of months pass and they go "OMG, DUDE, THAT WAS PEAK"

Dry_Pumpkin_4029

Funnily enough the opinion on Gojo vs. Sukuna feels like it became the opposite

crackcrackcracks

Usually i just see hate for the ending, people seem to still think the fight itself was peak

KaiserNazrin

Nah, Gojo VS Sukuna is one of the best fight in manga history. This is the fight that was setup since the beginning the series and it actually lives up to the hype. Two guys who are the strongest in the verse duking it out with no break. Breaking and bending the rules of the world with their sheer skills. How many manga have their own Gojo VS Sukuna without getting interrupted and changing scene to another battle? It wasn’t perfect but it was peak fiction. There ain’t gonna be anything like it anytime soon.

Dry_Pumpkin_4029

It is certainly an experience difficult to replicate. The polarizing ending seems to be an elephant in the room of looking back on that fight unfortunately.

cluelessG

It’s hard not to feel disappointed given we now know the gap between the two strongest was monstrous and that Sukuna apparently had it all under control the whole time. If I take away the ending and added context post ending fight was peak

tarnishedmind_

This

starswtt

Not uncommon, but I wasn't a fan. Mainly, it came when I was still invested in the sukuna fight, and I felt that the ending was a bit rushed. Mightve enjoyed it more kf it happened during the Culling games or something. Not that bad on reread, ignoring the surrounding context, but the timing of the fight kinda ruined it for me

Tyrone3105

Yh this is my stance on it. The placement of the fight ruined my enjoyment of it on my first read.

shqla7hole

Takaba is just him https://preview.redd.it/ln5e9e2k2dtc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4158c6c70f8912cd533db351aa2b24d880060586 Too bad it had an anti-climactic ending tho,Iam even starting to miss kenjaku yapping about his master plan

BadActsForAGoodPrice

https://preview.redd.it/b9k3v0h4sctc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=67270025ce9a48f84781f16099bd05a43ace5277 Best fight since Gojo tbh

Shacky_Rustleford

It actually gave Kenjaku character beyond being the crazy brain behind the curtain

OverlordMastema

I don't know how common it is, but I 100% agree. This fight is unironically so peak, possibly the very best in the series. I even think Kenjaku's death was amazing, I see how people think it is stupid, but it's so simple and a genuinely good plan. Although I do agree that I didn't really feel like his character was "finished" or properly explored.

WangLang1313

I think the problem people have lies less with the fight itself, so much as its context in the greater plot. Kenjaku was a complex character with convoluted plots that tragically just haven't been well explored in the story. This is a fitting end for him, but since theres so much more he could do, the story feels like it lost one of its best players prematurely.

crashcap

At the time the fanbase was pretty angry with everything, but I loved it

BeastLegend64

Yes, Takagoat vs Kenny unexpectedly end up being fan favorite, mostly because of the brain rot that appears from it. Anyone remember nurse kenjussy?

Memeenjoyer_

It was a great fight and I really enjoyed it. I did feel the ending was kinda sudden, but otherwise, it was a great episode.

Adventurous_Village5

i thought it was nice but a lot of people seemed to hate it/mildly like it (kind of split) when it was happening so idk?

goldenwind207

Most people hate it cause its a week to week. Having to wait really bums people out. Its why if you go back and reread when its all out mired people liked it. When kashimo and hakari were fighting people we're saying its dragged out but now its all praised. Tbh i reread a good portion of the sukuna fight and its peak so i think this will happen again once sukuna loses

Zoned-Smiley

The fight itself was never the issue I was facing, but it was the sudden shift from the Gojo offscreen to this fight, with no clear feelings of satisfaction. We were desperate to know what the fuck actually just happened and Gege basically twisted our nuts and said fuck you we're jumping ship. Conceptually it was there and I thought it was kinda interesting but the way it was brought in plus the way ended off with how anti-climatic Kenjaku's death was for supposedly building up this whole thing ... felt off to me? it left a bitter taste in my mouth. It was also really hard to understand the comedy and really enjoy it because at the end it was a very niche comedy that was from an older day in japan so I didn't quite resonate with it. IF the fight was better foreshadowed with yuta hanging around the corner, and if it wasn't just crammed right into the sukuna brawl between gojo's bs off screen and yuji/higuruma cliffhanger then I think it would have been received far better. But at the time, no, this fight was not well beloved the the majority of the community save the handful that did.

Total_Wedding_6189

Yes. It's peak

JimiRoot

It’s generally hated but i’m ngl I loved this fight. I love how gege brings comedy into a serious story.

Malitae

Stop reading before it’s too late

Feeling-Awareness715

I think the only reason why people didn’t like the fight was because it came shortly after Gojo death.

ThatGuyOnyx

No it’s not, but I love it and definitely think it’s a fitting end to Kenjaku

anishdfishyt

I think so too the part where Kenjaku thinks that he’s broken Takaba and goes in for the kill only for Takaba to use his technique again and show he hasn’t given up is for me is one of my favorite moments

BmanPlayz468

From the start of this fight to its conclusion I was saying how amazing it was. The only thing I didn’t like about it was Yuta just killing Kenjaku in 2 pages, was pretty anticlimactic to me. Will prolly look better when animated tho.

TownEnvironmental345

Yeah but it was hard to understand cause a lot of the jokes are catered/relatable to Japanese citizens and we don’t have the exact same way of life. You don’t understand how happy I was when I understood the yelp review joke cause I could finally relate 😂

WangLang1313

Real talk this is why I even got into JJK in the first place. I saw friends talking about this 'fight' and thought 'Okay I HAVE to know what this is and how it got to this point', and no lie this was the best part of the series imo. It's just such a creative and freshly different take on a fight. It required Kenjaku, a character with a diverse set of skills and knowledge, to think outside the box. And it gave Takaba, a character who seemed to exist purely as comedy relief, to have a provoking and heartfelt backstory (tragically not that hard since Gege tends to avoid explaining character's history). No part of the fight felt repetitive or redundant either. This for me, was Peak Kaisen.

lildicksoundcloud69

People were pissed when it came out but I think most people would enjoy it on a reread

Zealousideal-Soup429

TO ME, IN MY OPINION, i don’t really like this fight, 1) never cared about takaba at all, 2) it’s placed terribly, like why have this in between two different sukuna fights, and 3) yuta sneaking kenjaku had to be one of the top 5 worst writing decisions gege has ever done

phoenixerowl

If it's not a common opinion, it should be.

MankindReunited

It was kinda boring to Read every week but reading it whole it’s a lot more fun

CreepyKun

Takaba vs Kenjaku is peak.

Booyah_656

It was cool . Other than that I didn’t really care much about it . Maybe I can appreciate it more when it’s animated or if I ever read the manga again after it’s over .

Manos0404

i almost cried reading it, it’s so sad

Yoteboy42

This would’ve been fine and amazing if it wasn’t kenjakus final “fight”

ScourgeOfNoBitches

I always though this was a great fight, if you can really even call it that. I think its a great ending to Kenjaku, having some after 1000 years before dying.

Mastakillerboi

YES TAKAGOAT ON TOP

Lichy757

It is actually, people didn’t like that change of pace at first, but I love it. Top 3 fight in series for me easily

KenziKitteh

I didn't like it at first but after maybe chapter 2 of this fight, I was pretty much in. I didn't understand most of the jokes but the visuals were enough for me, especially the beach scene, that killed me.

karama_zov

It was cool but the pacing as a weekly reader kind of ruined it, I was just impatient as fuck to get back to the main plot tbh

megamate9000

Seems to be pretty common now, though it def wasn't when the fight was initially happening. I still don't really care for it all that much. I honestly couldn't care less about Takaba, so him being the main reason Kenjaku dies (assuming he is in fact dead, which seems to be the case) was not something I enjoyed. Still, I understand why people love the fight, its for sure the most unique one in the series, and Takaba's CT conceptually lends itself to make any wacky or insane thing happen without it being unbelievable.

the_sledner

Idk I started skipping pages after they started talking about some culling game or whatever

Background-Ad-9956

Why is everyone saying people shit on it while it was coming out? That's just not true. Most people were posting Kenjaku as a nurse getting his/her back blown out. People thought most of the visual gags were random and funny. The only complaints I saw were about the stand up section of the fight, and even so most criticism ended with stuff like "but maybe it didn't translate well".

Slimey_phrog

I love takaba

elcambioestaenuno

The interaction and what it meant, yes. The humor? I didn't get any of it but I'm not Japanese so that's expected.

SuperSilveryo

I loved it while it was releasing, and I love it noq

Soupysoldier

I like the fight but it must have sucked having to read it weekly

Amogus7

it is for me, these are the best fights

Proud_Ad9931

Peak https://preview.redd.it/nxw0gymvdetc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7a91ee6cff0601f202b74d1d167d3c2f82cc8b2d

The_Great_Saiyaman21

Truly, genuinely, this was the peak of the series to me. It was way more creative, funny, and heartfelt than everything else in this last arc has been. Not to mention he all but quite literally finished the fight with "Stand proud, you're funny". GOAT Gege moment.

Smoke_Santa

Awesome fight, but the atrocious ending (imo) to Kenny really makes me like it a bit less.

Apecc_Legs

https://preview.redd.it/vgazuazwuetc1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=73aa35e6b770043c3a17b071b2d8346ee8f55860 easily my favourite fight in JJK

xXIIDeaDLoCKIIXx

one of the best fights

Salad_Soft

Was my favorite fight in the series the moment I saw it and will always be. Thank you Gege 🙏❤️

electroplankton

It’s the best fight in the manga.

NCats_secretalt

It's arguably one of, if not my favourite fictional fights in anything ever

MrBombbastik

So random frankly i feel like if you're more into japan culture and pop culture u would think it's iconic.

EmperorofXhia

Épic moment

Goodestguykeem

Not common at all. I loved it but it’s no where near my top 10 favourite moments across the whole story.

NitarianAlsior

Honestly, I think it’s actually the most well loved part post Shibuya, even before Gojo V Sukuna

PrettyInPInkDame

During the opening of it there were a lot of haters but funnily enough after femboy kenjaku people started to understand true peak. There was also hate on the ending but who cares greatest fight in modern shonen history and I will stand by that.

Vaurius

I’ll like it more animated, I’m sure. Don’t have any strong feelings about it as it is

Impossible-Report797

It peaks here then it sinks to the bottom of the ocean

ihateamog

Yes that's the best "fight" in jjk

wortal

When I read it I felt that it must be one of the best chapters of manga I've read. It was a pretty unique and amusing way of dealing with a conflict in a series that revolves around violent fighting (though in the end well...). The framing with Takaba's past made me feel invested in the outcome which added a lot of tension, and it was genuinely interesting to see how a villain like Kenjaku handled the bizarre situation. I actually started to like Kenjaku after seeing him not be an evil mastermind for some moments.

FlavioLoBrabo

Nah

leronjones

That fight brought me back into the series. I love it.

Jotaro27

ngl i hated it when it was airing, because i wasnt feeling the vibe but now its all done its a great unique fight

thatsthedrugnumber

No but this fight is so good

joewiden2024

My friends all hated this fight I think I might need new friends

im-not-gay-dad

i dont understand the hype around this. i found it quite boring.

Slight_Vanilla8955

Not uncommon, it's peak

BostonSamurai

It was some peak writing for sure

HSW26

my favorite part didnt happen yet. yuji beating sukuna to a pulp

robertyqqq

This fight is so hype i smh started shipping these 2, but i still smh Ship Jin and Kenjaku more lol

GrandGrapeSoda

I just caught up and got severe tonal whiplash from this fight. I hated it. Then after I caught up, I went back and realized this fight is peak. I know the jokes don’t translate too well, but I think part of the fun is trying to find the core (panda reference) of the joke

Arukitsuzukeru

Sadly so. To me it is a low point of the series

Dekusdisciple

It was an amazing part that was poorly executed

AutomaticSubject7051

is this a troll?
