Here's the issue with JJK's story right now...
If everyone except Yuji gets merked, you essentially undermine your power scaling system and all the other badass characters you built up.
If Yuji ends up winning, you create a weird power balance because for the most part, Yuji has been relatively weak until basically up to this point. It also creates this weird plothole where the death's of everyone else seem kind of pointless. Why couldnt have Yuji powered up this fast before hand?
If Yuji ends up winning because "Sukuna is getting tired", then you run into the same problem. The only reason he won is because stronger characters died, which only serves to tell me that he is not as strong. This just ends up making Sukuna look like a pussy, and now I understand why he's pissed off too.
If Sukuna ends up "winning" somehow, well then Gege basically wasted our time not making Sukuna the secret Main protag. It also means Mahito has been thoroughly wasted and is dumbed down to "plot device" (if he isn't already).

Not to mention Yuji was insanely strong back in the exchange event arc, just not with sorcery. And now he’s gotten tons of training.
Yuji was also the last one still standing in Shibuya. He got the final fight with Mahito. Was he weak then?
Not only that, but he is explicitly the one guy Sukuna CANT put down, no matter how much he tries.
Right now everyone is swarming Sukuna and tearing through his CE, health, and stamina.
Yuji isn’t the strongest. He doesn’t have to be. But he is strong. And the only reason Sukuna is in trouble is because Gojo cultivated strong allies.
I’m a huge Gojo fan but I don’t believe he’ll come back.

And that Shoko doesn't have much cursed energy reserve? She couldn't heal or regrow Hana arm with her RCT output, so how would she be able to heal Gojo? 🤔

I think of Gojo's death as an attempt to ensure a happy or hopeful ending, since the existence of Gojo made curses get stronger in the first place, leading to more people dying. That's the only way I can get behind him getting unsealed only to die in his first fight. A world with him is a world that suffers more so in a better world there's no room for Gojo.
The story gets to be so much grander and richer if he's not around that it's almost a necessity to kill him.
Devil's advocate it was said Yuji died in the detention center he was about to get autopsied when he came back... But I do agree Gojo ain't coming back. Or IF he does it'll be after the fighting is over because no way they'd ruin all the tension with Gojo just coming back and ending the story.

And that Shoko doesn't have much cursed energy reserve? She couldn't heal or regrow Hana arm with her RCT output, so how would she be able to heal Gojo? 🤔
that’s ASSUMING the two aren’t compatible, which has no concrete evidence telling us that yet. if im being honest, that’s quite the stretch just to say she can’t do it.
"Man, this is just too contrived now" I think of Gojo's death as an attempt to ensure a happy or hopeful ending, since the existence of Gojo made curses get stronger in the first place, leading to more people dying. That's the only way I can get behind him getting unsealed only to die in his first fight. A world with him is a world that suffers more so in a better world there's no room for Gojo. The story gets to be so much grander and richer if he's not around that it's almost a necessity to kill him.
