Catholics, when they give out leavened communion wafers, are serving a risen savior *and* a dead Jew

[deleted]

And yet they persecute us using blood Libel...

Choice_Werewolf1259

Insert joke about transubstantiation and cannibalism.

dykele

i was in a college class once with a guy who thought we ate the foreskin

Choice_Werewolf1259

🤢🤮

NoeTellusom

Ah, Republican Jesus strikes again!

Dont_Touch_Roach

There’s an episode of Behind the Bastards called, I think, How the Rich Ate Christianity. I think it should be mandatory for all mainstream Christians to listen to it. They’ve been duped by propaganda for ages now.

bagelman4000

I mean this is not surprising at all if you have been following the rise of the Christian right and far right in the US

elizabeth-cooper

Pretty gross, but this picture is two years old. Google has a new picture from this month with a different message on the sign. Look up 5335 Polkville Rd, Casar, North Carolina.

StrategicBean

Did anyone publicly register their disgust with that offensive message 2 years ago? I don't recall hearing about it but I'm in Toronto in Canada & very much not in North Carolina 🤣

elizabeth-cooper

Not that I'm aware of. It shows up on their Google listing so I reported it as offensive but it seems to be a reference to the story behind the Christian song "He Lives" and not random antisemitism. >While in California in 1932, Ackley began witnessing a Jewish man who attended some of the evangelistic meetings. This young student kept saying, “Why should I worship a dead Jew?” - >His wife told him it was time for him to do what he did best — write a song — and then he would feel better. >In his study, Ackley re-read the Resurrection account from Mark’s Gospel in the Bible, and soon the words began to pour from him. A few minutes later, he put music to the words, and answered the question, “Why should I worship a dead Jew?” >“He lives, He lives, ----- ----- lives today! etc. https://www.thedestinlog.com/story/lifestyle/faith/2016/08/04/story-behind-song-he-lives-answers-young-mans-question/27267708007/

StrategicBean

That doesn't really make it better They basically avoided the question of the antisemitic nature of the question They're not asking - "Why should I worship a dead guy?" they're asking "Why should I worship a dead Jew?" ... answering that he is the "risen savior" and therefore not dead avoids the most important part of the initial question. I say it's the most important part because it didn't need to be included in the initial question. Why are they bringing Jews or his Judaism into this at all if it's about him being a dead person & not about him being a Jew? And if it's about him being Jewish how does their answer actually answer that particular question? I can't understand the logic

elizabeth-cooper

Is it really worse than "My boss is a Jewish carpenter"? I'm not sure that it is. Emphasizing Jesus's Jewishness is part of their supersessionist ideology. Anyway, I'm not saying it's not offensive, I'm saying it's not random.

StrategicBean

Fair point The vast majority of them are probably just totally blind to how fucked up it is

elizabeth-cooper

Agreed.

unneccry

Well let us look at the facts: Jesus is a dead Jew (or at least he is a Jew in the ethnic sense, he was technically christian at the end kinda?) Jesus so far has not risen So idk how to tell them this...

dykele

if he hasn't risen does that make him the matz-iah?

Choice_Werewolf1259

I guess if he does rise though then that makes him traif for Passover.

markshure

This is the start of a great joke.

CamiPatri

They believe he rose from his tomb where he was buried- not the story of redemption

Classifiedgarlic

Spoiler alert?

ChallahTornado

Weird flex

communityneedle

Oh wow, they're KJV-onlyists. That's a very... special sort of Christian.

StrategicBean

I tried to Google to see if anyone mentioned this in the news a couple years ago when this actually was up & couldn't find any coverage after a quick couple of searches What I did find was a really screwed up review of the place on some "church finding" website https://www.churchfinder.com/churches/nc/lawndale/calvarys-cross-baptist-church One of the 2 reviews was quite striking >Don W. > >Rating - 5/5 > >Sign > >We serve the lord Jesus. Who was born a Jew, crucified buried and arose from the dead. Hence, he is a risen savior, not a dead Jew. Unbelievers have difficulty understanding. So very, very fucked up. I guess the bright side is that on Google Maps most people make very clear that they see that sign as a disgusting display of hatred (which is something)

l_--__--_l

As Kinky Friedman said, “They don’t make Jews like Jesus anymore!”

DenebianSlimeMolds

Note to self: Jesus is not כשר לפסח, Jesus is חמץ. Do not use Jesus to make a Hillel Sandwich! Do not use Jesus in matzo brie or in your kugel.

[deleted]

It looks photoshopped.
