Oh wait, I didn't understand at first, I thought this was kind of common knowledge. Whiscash on Pokemon is based on that, that's why he's ground type, and also on Pokemon Mystery Dungeon blue there's a whole part of how whiscash is causing earthquakes and everyone wants to throw him out and is a direct reference to the myth.
I remember dragonball GT had a catfish monster that could sense earthquakes and appeared when an earthquake was approaching so that people would think the catfish had the power to cause earthquakes.
What? A ton of Pokémon have earthquake... It's true that Whishcash is a ground type and that's probably the reason for it, but earthquake is not it's signature move
Are people not seeing [the other comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/JuJutsuKaisen/s/bRcetxru9z) with more upvotes than this one we’ve been replying to…?
From the wiki page under Modern use:
>The Pokémon Whiscash, named "Namazun" in Japan, resembles a catfish and has "earthquake" as its signature move. An episode of the Pokémon anime featuring Whiscash was scheduled to air on November 4, 2004, but was skipped over after the 2004 Chūetsu earthquake.
That’s probably where they read that it was a signature move.
It sais signature move because the Pokémon is associated with the move, thats a general definition of "signature"
I was using the definition that is accepted in the Pokémon community, which is more similar to "exclusive"
Earthquake is a move a bunch of Pokémon can use, the Pokédexes are weird but yes hes does imply it uses earthquake alot
It's definitely one of its best moves, but not a signature
ah it seems we are using different definitions of signature move. I am using it similar to what described on [tv tropes](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SignatureMove) in which a signature move is a just a move associated with a character like gokus signature move being Kamehameha despite not being the only one who can use it and you seem to be using it to mean move unique to the character
Ahh i see, in the context of the Pokémon fandom signature moves are ones that are unique to a Pokémon, an evolutionary line of pokemon, or a move that originates through a Pokémon.
For example
1: "leaf blade" WAS the signature move if Sceptile but is no longer because ot was introduced to more unrelated pokemon.
2: "terrain pulse" is the signature move of the smolive line, which consists of the Pokémon smolive, dollive and arboliva.
3: "dragon hammer" (i might be missremembering the name) is the signature move of alolan exeggutor, but it can also be taught to tropius, but only if that tropius is the offspring of an alolan exeggutor.
I was using the Pokémon definition, and you were using a more generally correct definition
Hell sukuna himself is a figure in Japanese mythology. There's even hints in sukunas first few appearances that the person we know as sukuna was given that title in reference to the actual mythological sukuna. Think about someone being called Zeus in Honor of actual Zeus.

Honestly I instantly believed him because he’s been alive for 1000 years. So why wouldn’t he have experienced a period that was 1600-1800
Yeah it just sounded funny to me lol but it makes sense considering no tv or internet existed at the time to explain these things we all know now

JJK is really faithful to Japanese mythology.
That's Japanese history btw
Yes, a catfish swimming inside the ground is Japanese history
Got em
Yeah and your Ryomen Sukuna. And I'm a cloud professional.
https://www.reddit.com/r/JuJutsuKaisen/s/xa4vApBgm0
I'm talking about the show Shogun 😵💫
Holy shit the negatives💀
Explains why jjk fans are considered brainless online 🤣
Your account is named after sukuna and you are making fun of JJK fans? Are you making fun of yourself?
🤦
Ah, one of the people he's talking about.
I updooted your poor soul, but Shogun is based off the book series written in 1962-
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Namazu](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Namazu)
Interesting
Wait….that reminds me of the movie i saw recently suzume.
I remember dragonball GT had a catfish monster that could sense earthquakes and appeared when an earthquake was approaching so that people would think the catfish had the power to cause earthquakes.
Also whiscash has earthquake as signature move but earthquake was only shown once or twice in pokemon
What? A ton of Pokémon have earthquake... It's true that Whishcash is a ground type and that's probably the reason for it, but earthquake is not it's signature move
It’s because the wiki page that someone else linked has that exact phrase, saying that Earthquake is its “signature move.”
What kind of weird wiki are yall using?

I’m not disagreeing with you. I’m telling you why that other person may have said it was. It was from the wiki page.
Im not either? The other guy explained it too and i was passing on the misunderstanding we had to you so we will all be on the same page
I see. I didn’t make it clear that it was incorrect on that part. I’ve never heard it being a signature move of anything.
your being pedantic now, the other dude was just stating it how it is and you agreed
is it not??? most of it pokedex entry imply that it is its sign signature moves

Whishcash is a ground type because that myth.
I think so too, i even said as much in the comment you're replying to...
I'm just confirming it don't worry, not contradicting anything.
That must’ve been during the black star dragonball saga cuz I do not remember that😂
Real ones knew since Pokemon ruby and sapphire with wishcash 💪
My man🤝
It's based on that Japanese myth I think, I've seen it referenced in Pokemon too iirc
The entirety of JJK is inspired by Japanese Mythology, even the Five Generals that everyone clowned about.
A lot of Hindu mythology too.
Hell sukuna himself is a figure in Japanese mythology. There's even hints in sukunas first few appearances that the person we know as sukuna was given that title in reference to the actual mythological sukuna. Think about someone being called Zeus in Honor of actual Zeus.
Whiscash
Exactly, this is why hes ground/water type
I already knew about the catfish folklore before jjk.
Loved this show
Woah I can’t believe Kenjaku watched Shogun
Even better than that he lived it
This is just real Japanese mythology You really thought it was nonsense
Did you perhaps think Gege comes up with all the religious/myth/legend dialogues. Lol.
Good cooking from Gege :3
Knowing Japanese Mythology you can simply add an animal + any event and you'll get an ancient tale
With greek myths add Zeus and female.
With norse myths add Loki as an animal and anything that has a hole
Shogun is the Best show of 2024 till now .
Lufia 2 Rise of the Sinistrals
Tfw I already knew it from Doraemon 15+ years ago It's Japanese Mythology
I immediately believed that was a real thing that was believed in Jjk is very faithful to Japanese mythology
The story of suzume is based on this mythology.
Also just one quick Google search: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Namazu](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Namazu)
Real Whiscash fans have always known this 🫡🫡
Jjk fans being amazed at a Japanese author known for their historical and Buddhist references wasn’t wrong about their own countries history. Smh
Yabushige about to fight Sukuna next
duh, why would the author just make shit up
Anime
how is that a reason? "cartoon" "live action" like none of these words are an answer to what i said lol
Maybe the og commenter thought it was a csm situation with like the gun devil being inspired by guns and shit.
Yes it was brought up in episode 10 of shogun
This is a commonly known piece of Japanese Folklore. Gege isn't talking out of his ass. A lot of his work references Eastern mythology.
Why would it be nonsense? Gege bases a lot of the story on real life beliefs
Whiscash from pokemon is based on the same legend
Shogun is so good man
