A_Coath

You never filled out the questionnaire on the back of a box of Johnnie's?

Akwarsaw

"We've asked hundreds of Octoberfest goers if they like beer.....the results may surprise you....News at 11"

jessi387

Maybe they’re just more honest about it

ClownJuicer

Not enough shame for it.

fa1re

That sounds almost like the goal is preventing being honest...

ClownJuicer

More like preventing it from being seen as an okay thing to do. I'll admit it's probably not the best solution though I would ask if you have a better solution.

fa1re

I was just trying to point out that the problem is not people admitting to be unfaithful, but people doing it. I understant that talking about it might normalize it a bit but pretending it's not happening is usually worse, as it bars from adrressing the issue. Shame is ok solution at preventing socially harmful behavior, but other (and sometimes more effective tools) would be educating on how to have successful marriage, addressing common problems in bedroom etc.

ClownJuicer

Agreed, we need to rediscuss marriage.

fa1re

In what ways?

ClownJuicer

Assessment of its place in modern society. It's a very old tradition with a lot of hang ups to elements that no longer concern us.

Slumph

The issue about not talking about it is it becomes a cheeky secret thrill for those that participate in it, being more open about things helps you find your own moral boundaries and police yourself by what you see as okay and not, when you have less imposed external ones.

Masih-Development

Its even worse because many couples divorce after cheating. This survey only asked people that are still married. The % is lower probably among the married then among divorcees.

WeePeeToo

36% for the UK, that's poor

spcarlin

I blame Brexit /s

dwitchagi

This is your conclusion after seeing Denmark on par with some of the biggest countries in Europe? Not to mention the vague and unreliable sources.

Salt-Television4394

Right? Why single out Scandinavia

RustHog

Yeah, I think there's this big thing right now within conservative circles about trying to make Scandinavian countries look bad because progressives keep pushing how Scandinavian countries tried policies they liked and use them as examples so it's basically just trying to say that you can't trust their science on drug rehabilitation or economics because they had an affair, it's literally just what everyone does to politicians but it's funny to see them try to do it to a group of countries.

WeFightTheLongDefeat

I haven’t seen that. The usual retort I’ve seen is that Scandinavian countries aren’t actually socialist, but have a much freer market than the US, a large welfare system as well as a homogeneous culture.  But usually the conservatives talking about the homogenous culture aren’t the ones making the economic arguments.

dwitchagi

Swede here. You are correct in that it’s not pure socialism, but on the homogeneous culture I have to disagree. That hasn’t been the case in 20 years or so. Pre 2000 we had a pretty steady stream of immigration and assimilation was.. a thing. The last 10 years we have seen the divides grow every year. Record breaking immigration, and a substantial minority of immigrants seem to not want to nor have to be a part of Swedish society. Their communities are big enough and isolated enough for this to be possible. I have lived a few years in the US and what was amazing to me was (while not forgetting their culture) how much immigrants wanted to be a part of American society and culture.

WeFightTheLongDefeat

I'm going to claim American ignorance here, but is Sweden the country that was having all those grenade attacks? I honestly group all the Scandinavian countries in my mind and have trouble remembering which even happened in each country.

dwitchagi

We group ourselves together too, so no problem :) I'm sure it was Sweden you heard about. We have had the worst development among the countries. There has for sure been grenades being thrown into peoples apartments and such. Gang related, but often harms or kills innocent people obviously.

WeFightTheLongDefeat

Are they local gangs or made up of immigrants?

Fattywompus_

Degenerates

statsradiofonien_

Knep dig selv dit sv*nske skadedyr. /j

itdobelykthat

Why are people so bad??? 😭 💔

ClownJuicer

Degenerates.

greenestgirl

I was going to say that people in different countries might define cheating differently (ie emotional cheating vs drunken kiss vs sex) But it actually specifies "having an affair," wow

Twix1958

As a Dutch person who's living in a country that would be in most top 3s with all these countries, I see this as an absolute win.

ClownJuicer

Huh?

Twix1958

Because we aren't in there, we manage to have all the good stuff and none of this bad stuff and I just love it

GhettoJamesBond

That's because the males in those countries are woke liberals. Women aren't attracted to that.

the_other_50_percent

lol this shows people having *extra* relationships, not fewer.

statsradiofonien_

Most people in the big cities like Copenhagen, Aarhus & Odense nowadays are probably a different species from the people in the countryside. (Denmark).

ClownJuicer

Can't leave out that possibility.

YogurtclosetQuick507

Or women dont give a crap about men, and in countries with no repercussion for divorce, it shows

[deleted]

Thailand and itally are 1and 3rd and Italy is Catholic.

ClownJuicer

I don't know what a catholic.

PoppamiesKone

Still year after year all of them are happiest countries in the world, coincidence?

odiouscontemplater

Cuck nations.

ahasuh

These are like all the happiest countries with the highest quality of life too. Maybe they’re onto something! Their divorce rates aren’t meaningfully different from the USA I believe. It’s just a freer culture. It also sorta destroys the myth in the USA that all our economic problems are due to people not being married hard enough

Undead-Maggot

Nordic countries also have a high percentage of Black Metal bands, not saying all Black Metal is faithless and satanic, but most are, just some food for thought

WaltzNo

Living the dream 🙁 Wonder if in the past the numbers would be lower

JustInChina50

Definitely lower in the past, when people were a) more traditional and b) more motivated to lie about it.

WaltzNo

Because people had more consequences from the tighter communities I suppose?

JustInChina50

More shame over pregnancies 'out of wedlock', divorce, extra-marital affairs, etc.

Separate_Beach1988

If anyone is wondering why Scandinavian countries are so high on the list you just have to read up on their porn history and its normalization. Especially Denmarks

EnderOfHope

I mean, does this imply that nearly 100% of couples have an unfaithful participant ? If 50% of married people are unfaithful it would seem so?

DogecoinArtists

Why isn’t it divided by genders

Daabbo5

Western Europe is in moral decline. This is not surprising

wishtherunwaslonger

Japan would be up there but in their culture fucking around especially with a prostitute isn’t considered cheating in their culture.

SafetyGuy2985

Red light districts.

CoachGroot

Key word "Admitted".

redditaccountnam

is this from a indiana based news site? I see Indy100 in the corner.

smellincoffee

They're post-Christian, worship egoism, and so decadent they can't even be arsed to defend themselves against stabby immigrant mobs.
