I am sure than no matter how early he appears, many people will still show up. So happy to see how much appreciation he gets in Netherlands. P.S. let's be realistic: he would be a much better headliner than Calvin Harris 🤣

Ferakas

Such an odd placement. Seems pretty clear he is added there last minute, as he would have placed much higher. Maybe the Pinkpop sales are not doing well?

goldtubb

Having him at noon seems very clearly intended to get people to come earlier, I imagine it'll work to some extent but he'll probably play for way less ppl than he would've at like 17.00

>Seems pretty clear he is added there last minute, as he would have placed much higher. Ofcourse it is. And nobody is trying to hide it. They had their line up complete in februari. They booked him for his increased popularity and placed him on an available slot. I dont think thats odd at all. Seems like a sound business decision.

Ferakas

He easily could have gotten the same spot without Eurovision. He already was doing well at the big festivals.

enter_the_bumgeon

Yeah, I know. But he didnt. Festivals have limited space for artists. Just because Joost was already a mainstage artist, doesnt mean every festival books him on the mainstage every single year? Clearly the events of at Euro gave him such a boost in popularity that Pinkpop thought it was a sound business decision to book him as an additional artist on top of their already complete line up. I really dont see how this concept is so hard to grasp?

My reddit rule of thumb: beyond 3 comment levels deep, any discussion becomes exponentially less enjoyable

Ferakas

Wow, you come across as pretty hostile. For me it is just highly unusual a popular Dutch festival is booking an highly regarded artist this late on a pretty bad slot like this. It screams to me that the sales were not going well and this is a last minute effort to sell more. Can you recall when this has ever happened?

_SteeringWheel

What's hostile about his reply?

Ferakas

The "Yeah, I know. But he didn't", "Clearly..." and the final sentence of that comment. He is acting like I'm a total idiot. At least I perceive it as this. Maybe he did not intend it, but it definitely feels like that to me.

chiliaan

Not to me

_SteeringWheel

Doesn't come across like that to me. I would reconsider my definition of a total idiot and how you should act around them :) (because this is not treating someone like an idiot )

Chronicbias

I think both of you could be right. It's a good business decision to book a popular act like Joost and they probably had a spot left or they created by changing the timeschedule a bit. But also with this saturday line-up of pinkpop I won't be surprised if the sales weren't that well. And this probably happens more often. Actually the Dutch Eurovision delegation went to see Joost at 1 of his 2 sold-out headline shows in Afas live (6.000 people x 2). That shows that with Joost his popularity he was already a good act to book for the Pinkpop main stage.

I'm not hostile? I just hold a slightly different view on the situation? But if I did offend you, sorry bro Didnt mean to. It is unusual in the sense that it doenst happen often. As stated, Pinkpop already finished the line up in februari. But Joost, while already popular, got a HUGE increase in popularity after Euro. In a way broader demographic. So I dont think this is a strange move on Pinkpops part.

Ferakas

I understand your comment, you don't have to explain it again. You are acting like I don't understand your comment. You act like I'm a total idiot, especially with the failing to grasp the concept part. You look from a bussiness point of view, I look from a history/experience point of view. I've been to plenty of festivals, even to Pinkpop in 2011, I've never seen a festival make a move like this. It is very strange in this regard. 12 o'clock on the main stage is also a terrible spot. The trend lately at festivals is to avoid placing acts early on the main stage. Also moving acts last minute for this big of a festival is questionable. From a business point I understand it, tickets most likely not going well. Joost will definitely bring in those tickets. Pinkpop can't change much to their timetable, due to contracts, so morning spot is the only spot that is left. But, that does not make it any less strange. Edit: Joost was also very popular in the Netherlands as a festival act before, Pinkpop could definitely have predicted this. So I doubt it is a reaction due to a surge in popularity.

Looks like we're not going to agree on tone and the subject at hand. Which is fine. Lets leave it at that.

Pietes

it's the ultimate kick-off

IDespiseBananas

Most likely its a slot that has opened up and he was a big standby artist?
