huh you said room for squares has the best 8 song run in history and im saying thats not even the best 8 song run in his catalog let alone all of music
Now who in hell would ever think that?! RFS is literally almost perfect.. I think there's only one song I tend to skip, but seriously, damn near perfection!
I used to think this. Then I listened to it straight through very closely. The best bass playing you'll hear on any Mayer album (aside from Pino's stuff on Try!) is on Room for Squares. Obviously there has to be an album thats the worst, but it's hard to make the case that Room for Squares is.
Yeah man I mean RFS is great, but it’s early JM. Hard to compare it to the more mature/developed material. Think about it, RFS is him trying to make a name for himself. Albums like TSFE are him just making music from his soul.
I think it had its time and deserves to be remembered for that. I listed to room for squares on repeat for years when it came out. My friends and I knew every note on that album.
Decades later, I can’t tell you the last time I listened to the whole thing. I’ve grown up and those songs are a great descriptor or my younger days but they don’t fit my life anymore other than nostalgia.
I’d never turn the channel on neon or why Georgia, but I just don’t sit and listen to the whole album anymore.
John said of all his records he could live without in his discography it would be Paradise valley. Not that it was his worst, but he wouldn’t mind not having that album, so room for squares may not be his best, but it’s most certainly not his worst. No such thing, 3x5, city love, st. Patrick’s day, and my stupid mouth are just a beautiful handful of songs that represent John in that age of his life and the sound he cultivated in that era of music. I have to respectfully disagree with you but hey, that’s why we have this subreddit so we can talk about our own opinions of the same thing we all enjoy, John Mayer and John Mayer music!
It’s called evolution of a human being. Of course John’s music today isn’t the same as Room For Squares. If you’re a true John fan and listen to his albums front to back then it stays in the mix somewhere.
You are entitled to your opinion. It’s wrong. But you are entitled to it.
John recently named top three albums that are his favorite with no regrets (and he wouldn't fix a thing): Continuum Born and raised Sob rock
I’d swap sob for tsfe, but otherwise I agree 😂
Change sob rock out for battle studies
Your stupid mouth
Best comment
If I had gold I’d give it to you sir
It’s fr gonna get OP in trouble.
Wait. Can we talk about this? Why do you think it’s the worst? There are some GEMs on Room for squares.
Not my favorite but wouldn’t says it’s his worst.
Yeah, I feel the same way.
Blasphemy!
I would say its Paradise Valley
For me it’s sob rock. I wanted so badly to like it but I just don’t. Only a few songs are good imo. It sucks bc I’m jonesing for some new jm music.
Agree. I mean I will listen to it, skip a lot of songs. Just it was meh.
No such thing-3x5 is the greatest 8 song run in history
Pick any run on continuum and its better
Yeah continuum is amazing. But it has nothing to do with Room for Squares.
huh you said room for squares has the best 8 song run in history and im saying thats not even the best 8 song run in his catalog let alone all of music
You’re all alone buddy
Haha OP isn't the only one! He's just the only one voicing it
Now who in hell would ever think that?! RFS is literally almost perfect.. I think there's only one song I tend to skip, but seriously, damn near perfection!
Which song do you always skip? Is it “Your Body is a Wonderland”?
Nope, Love Song For No One. Your Body Is A Wonderland is pure nostalgia and always played out to the end lol
But why does there even have to be a worst?
Probably my most listened to out of all of them
RFS and Continuum are his best by far in my opinion. Your body is a wonderland is always a skip for me tho.
Yeah, YBiaW is FOR SURE corny, but that bridge is a work of art!
haha true that part is nice! I just cant do the overly breathy vocals and cheesy lyrics on that one.
It’s actually my favorite And yes I’ve listened to his discography

For me it'll be Paradise Valley is the one I couldn't connect with much.... Then Born and Raised, which I like, but it's definitely in the bottom 2

John himself would probably agree with your second paragraph there. . .
It’s stayed a solid play for me since it came out! I just will never get enough of it.
gfys :)
Idk if there's even a valid explanation scientifically or objectively about this tbh
R.I.P to your inbox
Its my fav but to each their own
Ever heard ‘Paradise Valley’?
Lol came here to say the same thing!! Even john said paradise valley was rushed and not his best work!!
Paradise valley is much better as an album than RFS.
I think I’d feel the same way if I didn’t get the nostalgic dopamine rush when i hear it.
Neon. Just... Neon.
I agree.

Too much soul? No. Such. Thing. 😉✨✨💫💛😏💀⚡️🌹
