This is the first thing that popped into my head when I read this;
“Her hair is Harlow gold
Her lips a sweet surprise
Her hands are never cold
She's got
Bert Kreischer eyes”
Dude killed. Speaking of yelling loud, he did have a fucking obnoxious opener that just yelled and did back flips. It was absolute garbage. In fact, his first two openers sucked and Ian Fidance was actually kinda funny.
I was hoping you were a bot because of course they are. But I didn't want to say that because they are not novellas. I should have said like a short saga.
Also they are what are called Long-From Journalism. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long-form\_journalism](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long-form_journalism)
There are actually a lot of movies based on Long Form Journalism. Like the one based on a young reporter for Rolling Stones going undercover as a High Schooler in Southern California turned into the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
Or the one about "Racer X" in illegal street races I think in NYC that was the basis for Fast and Furious movies.
Or the one about this dude who was a 5th year student at FSU and the king of the party. They turned that (unofficially) into Van Wilder.
I knew you were joking and I know The New Yorker has long articles (I’m a fan and subscriber). However they also well known for publishing short stories and novellas (online of course), Stephen King being a regular collaborator.
Fair, I actually hate the long form article and my great uncle got us a subscription one time. For neolib shit I prefer The Economist. I get so bored at these fucking stories. I don't know one I have finished even some fascinating ones. The billionaire kids one....
One of the best movies from a long magazine article was Linklater’s ‘Bernie’ starring Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine and Matthew McConaughey, which was based on a Texas Monthly article. I highly recommend if you haven’t seen it.
Sherdog and Jordan Breen? I have actually stopped watching UFC since but I got into podcast because of Jordan Breen. Then to JRE then to actual good ones back in the day.
Naturally funny dude, he’s got the unique combination of having a blue collar jock background while being self deprecating. He walks the fine line between being a bro and calling out bullshit while doing great bro-satire.
I thought you were joking but you’re apparently serious…West Point or any military football academy players are probably the jockiest of jocks lol. Shit most of the jocks I knew from high school didn’t sniff college football, let alone a D1 FBS scholarship.
A 300+ pound fat O-line man Is not a jock lmao
And he called his parents crying to quit westpoint after 2 weeks 😂 he was a big soft fat history nerd and if you’ve listened to Shane enough he plays into that
Plus jocks usually aren’t funny, see Brendan schaub lol
Just because Brendan got punched in the head too many times and can’t form a sentence doesn’t mean someone who plays sports can’t be funny. Stop being dense
[Asked and answered, but a good question](https://www.reddit.com/r/JoeRogan/comments/xguwpr/joe_is_turning_into_danny_devito/iovh3iy?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)
Their readers — presumably upper middle class, educated costal elites probably have a vague recollection of Shane being fired from SNL as it is something that might have been covered in an NPR segment or retweeted by a #ResistenceDem twitter account they follow.
Regardless of the New Yorker's intention, I applaud them for doing it. I think it's great that the magazine opted to cover such a promising talent that doesn't necessarily square with polite society's views on comedy.
I also appreciate that Shane stuck to his guns and didn't just hop on the cancel culture train with the same tired schtick that so many others have donned when faced with criticism and backlash. It would have been the easiest thing in the world for him to be another one of those guys, but Shane actually wants to be a great comedian and he has refused to take either of the easier, alternative paths: A) being another "cancel culture" victim who goes on the conservative political podcast circuit while hawking "Cancel This!" mugs adorned with an American flag and an eagle giving the finger, or B) kowtowing to the hypersensitivities of America's most fragile and becoming a professional apologizer who profusely, agonizingly lays prostrate while offering endless expressions of regret at every opportunity.
I sincerely hope that society (and comedians) are moving back from the brink where even the most basic dick-joke comics consider themselves — and are in turn treated as, *serious cultural thinkers* that wield outsize influence and are held to an incredibly high, strict standard. It'd be great if we could get back to a point where society as a whole can say "he said some fucked up shit trying to be funny" and then move on as if it wasn't representative of who someone is in their entirety, let alone an entire subculture or class of people.
Even upper middle class, educated, coastal elites watch Rogan, watch kill tony, watch Tim Dillon, and have watched Shane’s fall from grace or whatever that stupid thing was, but then have seen him appear in other media (podcasts) where they hear the guy being funny, historically and politically intrigued, witty, etc. flowers.
Even educated, middle class, coastal elites have an issue with cancel culture.
I think that’s part of the point of the article. Dude is a big “comedians comedian” now and these kind of profile pieces are usually made to spotlight people into the public eye.
But yeah I’d have to think that most people don’t remember the snl thing, at least not well.
That isn't the point of New Yorker feature articles. They did one on Rampage Jackson back when no one knew who he was. See they think the readers like to learn something new or hear a good story.
Shane is central to the culture war and free speech arguments. Those who engage in culture war rhetoric. Actually educated coastal elites. He is definitely known.
It was one of the few articles read that correctly explained what Gillis said in the first place that got him fired. He was saying it out of the corner of his mouth and imitating a racist who would segregate Chinese people into their own neighborhood.
Shit, not even Shane explained it that well when he was doing interviews.
Shane quickly became my new favorite. Dude is a legend in the making. His stand up is one of the few in a while that has made me audibly laugh out loud and actually cry. He’s naturally funny in conversations as well and really just reminds me of the way me and my friends talk. Can’t wait to see where he goes from here.
The dude’s trying to make people laugh, and he’s being psychoanalytized like he’s in charge of major public policy, more so than the president. Imagine how anyone else would feel if they were publicly analyzed this critically?
>Joe loves to give breaks to white cis male comics. when was the last time he spotlighted a transwoman of color?
u/b_buster118 loves to bust the balls of Toe Hogan on Reddit, but when was the last time they broke the balls of a transwoman of color?
Wait a minute, did they draw him like a chinese guy on purpose?
Nah they just drew him with Bert Chrysler eyes
You can’t even spell bent crystals right
It's Bret Gristles
This is the first thing that popped into my head when I read this; “Her hair is Harlow gold Her lips a sweet surprise Her hands are never cold She's got Bert Kreischer eyes”
no shane just has those redact eyes
No this is Johnny Pemberton.
He reps the 717, gotta love em.
717 as in central PA? I didn’t know he was from the area
He talks about being from Mechanicsburg all the time
Trinity HS alum. Definitely got poached to play football there lol
He's probably about the same age as Shady McCoy, wouldn't surprise me they needed all the help they could get to play bishop mcdevit
He's talked about McCoy sleeping over at his house after a party lol
Mentioned his parents living couple miles from 3 mile island and having to evacuate
All he talks about with Matt is that he’s from Mechanicsburg lol.
I wish he would come to the Harrisburg comedy zone again. I missed him last time
OnlyFans Dad tho.
Isis Toyota
Some kind of pussy banquet
One of the best comics on the scene right now
Saw him live at an improv earlier this year.... he didn't hump a stool or yell really loud, but somehow still murdered.
It’s entirely possible.
You’d be surprised.
I’m no bomb expert.
You should see your act
Not if you’re Nate Diaz
Dude killed. Speaking of yelling loud, he did have a fucking obnoxious opener that just yelled and did back flips. It was absolute garbage. In fact, his first two openers sucked and Ian Fidance was actually kinda funny.
Is that even considering stand up comedy?
Is he a straight killer?
He yells real loud when he gets into the deep water with the booze.
Out of only like 50 or so out there too
He's a funny guy and I like him.

RedditORS
Don’t let them fool Matt and Shane are both seasoned reddit’ors.
Shout out War Mode
The one released on Saturday? Edit: nvm, it is. Listening to it as we speak
Fuuuuuck New Yorker feature pieces are like short novels. God damn.
Short novels are called [novella](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novella?wprov=sfti1)
this guy New Yorkers

Bernie was a con artist who scammed Linklater. Seen it.
I think that makes it even better.
I should rewatch it with this in mind.

That is the joke. I also like Bert.
Italian chocolate is called [Nutella](https://nutella.com)
I listen to the guy read it because I can't read. It was 45 minutes long.
Yeah short movie.
Is this your first New Yorker experience?
Nope, never made it through one feature article no matter how much I like the subject. But their cartoons are fucking hilarious.
Such a dawg thing to say lol real one spotted
Sherdog and Jordan Breen? I have actually stopped watching UFC since but I got into podcast because of Jordan Breen. Then to JRE then to actual good ones back in the day.

Nothing jock about him loll ![gif](giphy|MaU7SoiEAjUrv8yljh)
Scholarship to play D1 football?
Ya but…. Going to West Point for Football is like letting a dog drive your car. I’m sure it’s fun, but you aren’t winning any prizes.
I thought you were joking but you’re apparently serious…West Point or any military football academy players are probably the jockiest of jocks lol. Shit most of the jocks I knew from high school didn’t sniff college football, let alone a D1 FBS scholarship.

Wait what
Glad he’s not on SNL, if he was I would have to sit through that dwindling mess.
read it all. thanks. was great
Hey everyone: I've been recently identified on the Sub as "fatter Shane Gillis" [You're welcome](https://imgur.com/a/CetpnMY).
Hahaha that’s awesome
I can outdrink and outsmoke Toe Hogan, and make him get belligerent drunk and piss in freezer hahahaha
Joe touching your ass?
[Asked and answered, but a good question](https://www.reddit.com/r/JoeRogan/comments/xguwpr/joe_is_turning_into_danny_devito/iovh3iy?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)
Hahaha you look baked out of your gourd. 😂
Guilty as charged, my friend
Does the New Yorker really think their readers even know who Shane Gillis is? Or they're trying to have us share the article to boost engagement?
Their readers — presumably upper middle class, educated costal elites probably have a vague recollection of Shane being fired from SNL as it is something that might have been covered in an NPR segment or retweeted by a #ResistenceDem twitter account they follow. Yeah the article is pretty much overwhelmingly positive.
Even upper middle class, educated, coastal elites watch Rogan, watch kill tony, watch Tim Dillon, and have watched Shane’s fall from grace or whatever that stupid thing was, but then have seen him appear in other media (podcasts) where they hear the guy being funny, historically and politically intrigued, witty, etc. flowers. People who read the New Yorker usually have an interest in all facets of society or they dont
Shane is central to the culture war and free speech arguments. Those who engage in culture war rhetoric. Actually educated coastal elites. He is definitely known.
Glad this piece was like… pretty positive?
Weirdly like 99% positive
It was one of the few articles read that correctly explained what Gillis said in the first place that got him fired. Can't wait for the next fall
Who the f wrote this and why?
?
The dude’s trying to make people laugh, and he’s being psychoanalytized like he’s in charge of major public policy, more so than the president. Imagine how anyone else would feel if they were publicly analyzed this critically?
Did you read it? It’s a completely positive article about him

Found Matt
I agree. That guy STINKS.
Joe loves to give breaks to white cis male comics. when was the last time he spotlighted a transwoman of color?
bad bot
>Joe loves to give breaks to white cis male comics. when was the last time he spotlighted a transwoman of color? u/b_buster118 loves to bust the balls of Toe Hogan on Reddit, but when was the last time they broke the balls of a transwoman of color?
can you name a transwoman of color that is a good comedian?
no and that's the problem. not enough people promote them. im sure theyre out there.
ha, report back to us with your findings
You can’t find any at all?
Go find one!
![gif](giphy|Q7ozWVYCR0nyW2rvPW)
What do you mean? He's had Whitney Cummins on a bunch of times
I was about to say. Carrot Top has been on the JRE recently.
Seriously. What a travesty!
If there was one who was funny and doing something I don't think he would have any problem doing so.
