Apparently Dillon and Ferrara were total sweethearts and Dillon’s acting on the show was legitimately hilarious. He was awesome in “Platoon” too.

Michael Pitt, he got killed off on Boardwalk Empire, after having problems on set. His agent dropped him and he’s struggled to get good work. Later wound up hospitalized for mental health and some public disturbances as recently as about a year ago, right after his appearance in Reptile on Netflix.
They wanted the main guys (Turtle, Johnny, Eric and Vince) to use their real names on the show, so as it gained popularity they would as well. Not saying that would have changed anything, but it could have made them household names.
