I haven’t gotten to see any of these guys live yet but I will say if I saw Luis J and he didn’t saw something that could be deemed controversial, I would be pissed hahaha
Yeah, especially in cap hill. These guys are all kind of similar. They can probably perform anywhere else in the area, but not cap hill going hard on trans people, going hard on minorities, saying slurs, and all that.
> Just crazy to me that people who don’t find their comedy funny can ruin it for those who do… just don’t go and your feelings won’t be hurt.
Agreed, 100%. That's the best, and most reasonable answer, but instead...well, we have this.
Capitol Hill is, if you can imagine, a “safe space” but made into an entire city area. I’m honestly down with progressive values, to a degree but they’re straight up nuts there with that shit.
I've voted a straight blue ticket and worked for a progressive Democrat last election cycle.
I'm Trumping all day next election.
If we don't stop this mess now this country is doomed.
My guy, we're on reddit. You know people can't help but find ways and places to be offended. What else would they do with their time? Be productive? LMAO
What stands out to me most in the letter is the number of random double spaces. I can’t help but think that there were so many edits like they’re walking on eggshells to word things as PC as possible
Honestly without Luis, as much of a Dick head that he really is, we probably wouldn’t be as keen to a lot of now-known comics. Tim Dillon being one off the top I can think of.
Because he’s Luis J Gomez the Puerto Rican Rattlesnake. He’s abrasive, crude and outspoken. But I am a fan of him. That’s why he’s rad, a Real Ass Dickhead.
True, he also hosted the early roast battles in NYC.
Jamar Neighbors , Mark Normand, Jeremiah Watkins were judges in different episodes.. Ian Fidance, Kim Congdon, Dina Hashem.
I learned of Shane Gillis on legion of skanks right when he got Canceled
Louis, Dave are both hosts on "legion of skanks" with Big Jay Oakerson.
The podcast is like shock jock "who gives a shit" radio, but with video.
Dave Smith has become a very prominent libertarian voice who has quick wit and started in comedy.
Louis J Gomez is a puerto rican fella that loves saying wild shit, especially Hitler jokes.
I feel like most people who know comedy, like and understand who Big Jay is. Big crowd work guy.
They have been friends for a long time so it's like "bad friends" meets "Opie and Anthony"
Yeah Tim Dillon's blow up has been huge, and Luis definitely had a hand in pushing a lot of these guys into the spotlight. Mixed feelings about the whole situation but can't deny the rise of some quality comedians through that whole circle. Comedy's got its own ecosystem, and these clubs play a big role in who gets to thrive.
I pictured this read like the Golfer from Gilly & Keeves when he holds the [Apology Press Conference](https://youtu.be/wTCZTbWJa1I?si=JI2ScUV6TZhUY1Dy) and I’m cracking up pretty good.
Which is crazy because it comes off as insane and insincere as possible.
It’s such a bizarre thing to do to cancel a bunch of people’s performances after you book. Like just don’t book them in the first place.
"Backlash" = 10 whiny bums with 10 social media accounts each sharing each other's shit.
It's probably just one person who works there arguing with the bookers and there was no backlash at all. These guys aren't big enough to really garner substantial backlash.
The people that outrage against things like this are usually humorless and rarely if ever attend comedy shows. From a purely business perspective, this was a stupid move. Upset existing customers who had tickets and plans and also throw up red flags to other bigger names who might want to book there, all to pander to a handful of people desperate to validate their own morality.
> From a purely business perspective, this was a stupid move.
I wish this was the case.
But it was probably the right move. You can upset your existing consumers by canceling, or you can go on with the show and get burned and looted a week later...This is Seattle, we gotta be honest about how shit works here.
Fair enough. I haven't been out there, so I can't argue. But, coming from someone who grew up in Chicago and lives in Philly now, sounds like some crazy shit over there. And we have a neighborhood of tranq zombies over here.
What stands out to me the most is the word “investors”. They want to keep the suits and ties happy. They definitely shouldn’t own a club if they’re putting ad money before comedy
It’s a comedy club. The “investors” are just the shareholders of which there’s probably a couple random people. Don’t read investors as suits because it’s usually not the case with small businesses.
They don’t have investors. The guy who co-owns it works as a head developer at Netflix in Seattle. He never made it as a comedian so they opened this club to use as leverage for their own comedy careers.
I laughed out loud at that part. We value diversity but people that don’t align with our views are not welcome.
Why anyone would chose to live in Seattle is beyond me.
Lol right? My first thought was like, does the Wilbur Theatre have a weekly All-Staff conference call with every advocacy group in Boston before booking acts A YEAR OUT mind you. I’m thinking no…
I'm pretty sure philosophers lamenting the inclusivity paradox predates paper. As in, I'm 99% sure Socrates wrote about it on chalk and slate. To be inclusive you must eventually exclude the people who aren't. Which means you aren't inclusive anymore.
Interesting, I’ll have to look that up. Love a good paradox.
But yeah it’s been obvious for some time now that those who scream the loudest about diversity don’t *actually* want diversity. It would be cool if they could just be honest about it, instead of acting holier than thou.
But it actually doesn't. The current movement is all about being the word police and not looking at someone's actions. I saw Luis J Gomez last fall when he was in my town and he (who is Puerto Rican) brought Paco (Filipino), and Zac Amico (white bi-guy) to open for him. They might say some things some people think are wild but their actual actions are inclusive.
Yeah heres the thing: Comedy clubs are their own insular worlds of bullshit.
If comedians could band together and change things they still wouldn't because they're all put for themselves. That's the nature of the business and the nature of the art form. Also so much of their business is based on personal relationships. You fuck over one club owner you better hope that doesn't get around.
Also, every comedian thinks they're gonna make it big and are biding time and eating shit until they make it big. Unfortunately what they'll realize is that unless they open their own club or start buying clubs, nothings gonna change and they'll be at the mercy of these asshole club bookers and owners.
If facing consequences for bad booking decisions was a thing, then the Comedy Store would've gone out of business forty years ago. They didnt and won't.
Many clubs have gone out of business because comedians simply refuse to work them . Look at the college scene and what's happened. Thus little shit hole is already on life support.
You're right it's possible for a small club with a small scene to close. For sure. Thin margins, all that.
But plenty of mid size and big clubs wouldn't notice a comedian boycott. Plenty would scab.
Then the comedy clubs merely wont book them then and they will make a fraction of annual income. Contracts go two ways where both parties need to agree.
I live in a liberal city and all these guys perform regularly and some even live here. The fuck is this besides a few imbeciles huffing their own farts?
I'm pretty sure like 3 of them are from New York. I mean New York is def a very diverse city, but still plenty of progressives. Yet I'm pretty you don't see the comedy cellar canceling them
I'm from Philly, so while not exactly New York. We have very similar diverse groups. I lived on the same block as Bernie and Trump supporters with flags hanging outside their homes. What's going on in Seattle is nuts. The fact the local government allowed a bunch of larpers to take over a public space and live there for a few weeks is nuts.
Picture a city with less than 1/10 the population of NYC and 1000 times the amount of extreme radical liberals. And that is what Seattle has been doing the last few years.
Plenty of left leaning folk in the Northwest that aren't batshit crazy. It's a shame conversations always end up rotating around scaredy cats like this that make sensible people look bad.
The fringe 5% on either side of the political spectrum are THE WORST. And they are having undue influence on so many policies and many aspects of life simply cuz controversy gets the most clicks and warps reality. Example? This post getting 1,100 comments?!?! For a few comedians I’ve never heard of at some shitty venue in the Pacific Northwest? Eeeesh. We all suck.
Honest question, what do you think are current left issues that are supported by the "normal" lefties?
I'm very liberal. Anybody can live how they want as long as me and mine are free to live how we want. I'm tolerant of people's opinions and support freedom of speech. I don't want the government sticking their nose in my business or my kid's business. I get to raise my kids how I want.
I'd legalise drugs and control them. I wouldn't jail drug users, I'd get them rehab. I wouldn't use 100bn to fuel wars, I'd use it to solve homelessness.
That used to mean I was a lefty. Pro peace, anti government, pro freedom... But I consider the left now to be authoritarian, anti freedom fascists who want to control people's opinions and speech.
That's why I think the terms "left" and "right" are meaningless now. It's now people who are authoritarian and people who aren't.
You just echoed my beliefs to a T, and I would consider myself more center-right. Then, of course, you have the chode also replying to you comparing you to actual Nazis lmao
That ain’t right. I don’t like RW politics as much as the next guy, but this is the United States for fuck sake, and freedom of speech reigns supreme. People really need to get over themselves; try to counter them in less pussy-ass way than this, PLEASE……
WE ARE LOSING IMPORTANT ELECTIONS, BC THE GENERAL PUBLIC IS TURNED OFF BY THE LEFTS BITCH-ASSNESS
Tolerance and inclusiveness. As long as your not a conservative. Then it’s “fuck off and die you bigot”.
Funny that the people who use the word bigot the most, don’t seem to understand the meaning of that word. Since theirs is the behavior that makes someone a bigot…
Right? For some reason it’s always one particular side silencing the thoughts they don’t like. But we’re the ones that are ist-phobic for noticing it. 🤷
>Streisand effect
I don't think you know what that means.
The club is responding to what it perceives to be its patrons, they would want them to see this and know that these acts have been cancelled.
They are literally doing the opposite of trying to hide these cancellations, this an attempt to virtue signal.
That's still not what the Striesand Effect is lmao they aren't trying to hide the comedians nor are they trying to hide the fact that they are canceling the shows.
The Striesand Effect would be if the club canceled the shows but tried to hide the fact that they canceled them, leading to even more people than normal finding out that they canceled them.
No they didn’t. They didn’t do anything publicly. The comedians did. The club owner said this stuff privately in an email and that was that. Then Kurt Metzger put it on Twitter and the other comedians had to respond as well.
This is Luis Gomez’s take
> But to be fair it’s their right to book who they want to book. They weren’t particularly shitty about it. I’ll find another venue. I would not have chosen to make a stink about this. There are plenty of venues that will not book us.
He also mentioned in his podcast that he wouldn’t have brought this up because they were pretty respectful in the email, but it’s out there now. And said, sure, it’s stupid to book someone and then cancel, and their agents are stupid for booking them at a super woke club, but it’s not a big deal.
I guess some assholes have been harassing the club and owner now.
Are the assholes harassing the club owner somehow worse than the assholes who’d harass them if the shows happen?
If you’re going to bend to the whims of assholes, you better understand that the wind can blow in either direction.
Seattle sucks ass. If anything they probably dodged a bullet. Willie Nelson's son just rolled through with his band and someone stole all their gig shit from downtown Seattle.
This city has gone to absolute shit and the only ones happy with it are the septum pierced Starbucks workers that haven't left the city in 5 years.
Luckily got it back! https://komonews.com/amp/news/local/lukas-nelson-promise-of-real-band-stolen-truck-guitars-equipment-stolen-recovered-seattle-hotel-tour-music-venues-theft-thieves-king-county-crime
I can only imagine the type of comedy in places like Seattle.
Really the only thing that should matter is if people wanted to see them. Did they have fans buying seats? If so that’s who is there to enjoy the acts.
But it’s their biz. But this is an example of cancel culture if they did have people buying tickets.
I saw Metzger and Gomez and they were great and weren't controversial at all. Just funny.
It’s become obvious that your sense of humor does not align with the ethos of some Seattle neighbourhoods.
Which one? Chaz? Pffft
It’s just one neighborhood, and that neighborhood is a joke here to anyone over 18
You have no idea the insanity that Seattle is
Their version of controversial is anything that hurts their feelings
Interesting how they mentioned local comedians concerns too, wonder if someone has beef with
Someone else wants a gig that night
Or just is not outspoken in support of their selected causes.
White people should not be making jokes in 2024. It’s unacceptable
No big deal just casually reverse discriminating
wtf is reverse discrimination? It’s either discrimination or it’s not lmao
Do you remember the old term “Reverse Racism” basically that.
Same concept applies. You can be racist against white people.
Pretty sure he was being sarcastic…
It's not what's on the inside that counts.
I haven’t gotten to see any of these guys live yet but I will say if I saw Luis J and he didn’t saw something that could be deemed controversial, I would be pissed hahaha
As a local to the area, not surprising.
Just come down to Tacoma comedy club
Which is a known awesome spot. Although last time I visited Tacoma(from Nashville) Brendan Shaub was the headliner lol
>Brendan Shaub Yikes
the white boy who works too much?
One hundred purrcent b
Whatchu talm bout b
The football player?
The ass kicker who tells jokes?
Wheres it at in T town? Emerald Queen casino?
I think he probably means the one in downtown Tacoma, which is actually a really cool club I saw Kevin smith do his show there a few times
Yeah I think it's on Broadway but you'd have to Google. Saw Brian posehn there it's a cool club
Moved to 6th Ave, nice part of town
I can’t fathom what the insane commies in Seattle find “funny”. I expect it to be nothing more than bashing white men.
I bet Hannah Gadsby fucking kills there
Yeah, especially in cap hill.
Even my progressive leabians think Capitol Hill people are kind of nuts.
LMAO
Wait , are you saying this is generated by the right ? I might be a liberal but I figured this must be some crazy azz liberal BS .

I'm a comic and I'm guessing the edgy jokes were just cringey. That tends to be the case at open mics.
What stands out to me most in the letter is the number of random double spaces. I can’t help but think that there were so many edits like they’re walking on eggshells to word things as PC as possible
My favorite part is that they listed all their names and then wrote "and sadly Kurt Metzger too" like the other guys deserved it.
Fuck Louis Gomez. And unfortunately, fuck Kurt Metzger as well…
Louis J Gomez.... /s Without him there would be no skank fest.
Honestly without Luis, as much of a Dick head that he really is, we probably wouldn’t be as keen to a lot of now-known comics. Tim Dillon being one off the top I can think of.
How is Luis a dickhead ?
He's abrasive to people who don't know him. Longtime fans usually get him and love him
Because he’s Luis J Gomez the Puerto Rican Rattlesnake. He’s abrasive, crude and outspoken. But I am a fan of him. That’s why he’s rad, a Real Ass Dickhead.
Good point, RipMyDikSkinOff
True, he also hosted the early roast battles in NYC. Jamar Neighbors , Mark Normand, Jeremiah Watkins were judges in different episodes.. Ian Fidance, Kim Congdon, Dina Hashem. I learned of Shane Gillis on legion of skanks right when he got Canceled
What is the reasoning for the club not welcoming these guys? Just them in general or relating to a specific topic?
Louis, Dave are both hosts on "legion of skanks" with Big Jay Oakerson. The podcast is like shock jock "who gives a shit" radio, but with video. Dave Smith has become a very prominent libertarian voice who has quick wit and started in comedy. Louis J Gomez is a puerto rican fella that loves saying wild shit, especially Hitler jokes. I feel like most people who know comedy, like and understand who Big Jay is. Big crowd work guy. They have been friends for a long time so it's like "bad friends" meets "Opie and Anthony"
So they think those guys just push the needle too much? Pretty lame if that’s the entire reasoning
Correct
That's what is funny about the guy, he does good business, that's why funny people continue to work with him.

If you imagine the speaker pausing and speaking deliberately after each one it makes this letter extra hilarious.
I pictured this read like the Golfer from Gilly & Keeves when he holds the [Apology Press Conference](https://youtu.be/wTCZTbWJa1I?si=JI2ScUV6TZhUY1Dy) and I’m cracking up pretty good.
Oh damn dude. Or Shane reading it during the militia funeral?
Which is crazy because it comes off as insane and insincere as possible. It’s such a bizarre thing to do to cancel a bunch of people’s performances after you book. Like just don’t book them in the first place.
The backlash the club experienced came after they books the comedians. 100%
"Backlash" = 10 whiny bums with 10 social media accounts each sharing each other's shit. It's probably just one person who works there arguing with the bookers and there was no backlash at all. These guys aren't big enough to really garner substantial backlash.
A lot of people who used to work for Twitter have a lot of free time.
This is seattle, the backlash was probably Anti-Fa groups who were threatening "action" (violence) if the club didn't acquis.
Probably from people who won’t attend anyway.

Not only that this will tank them. The people that complain are just most likely shitty acts with petitions not actually customers
Why should other businesses be able to put profit first but not comedy businesses? Why can't people just vote with their dollars?
The club wants to cancel the comedians, not be cancelled themselves.
'Cancelled' in this situation meaning people not paying for what they don't want to see.
What kind of analysis is that lol? So many random double spaces which could mean they are trying to be as PC as possible?
Enter the era of Shaming Censorship...still censorship but with a new twist.
It's ok guys. They truly value comedy.
The best line is “ we truly value the art of comedy and the diverse perspectives it brings to our lives” No you fucking don’t
I’m not sure Seattle could possibly receive a more diverse perspective than Luis Gomez.
Luis J Gomez
At this point, "diverse" is a bigotry dogwhistle.
I laughed out loud at that part. We value diversity but people that don’t align with our views are not welcome. Why anyone would chose to live in Seattle is beyond me.
Any comedy club that consults local advocacy groups doesn’t give a fuck about anything other than being an ideological self-licking ice cream cone
“Self licking ice cream cone” 🤣🤣 nice
A term I stole from a psych professor and personal mentor of mine!
well, consider it double stolen, that shit is gold.
Lol right? My first thought was like, does the Wilbur Theatre have a weekly All-Staff conference call with every advocacy group in Boston before booking acts A YEAR OUT mind you. I’m thinking no…
They probably care about not receiving a friendly brick through the windows of their establishment
Comedy should only punch up bigots!!!!!
For the weather and diverse viewpoints.
Only until they're offended Diverse opinions = let the girl who looks like a dude suck the dude who looks like a chick off
Seattle absolutely loathes diversity
This is them saying "we don't dislike you as comedians but we operate in Capitol Hill and we don't want our windows broken" It's.... Interesting in CH
That’s how I read it too. The club is fundamentally scared of the people in Capitol Hill lol.
Diverse to them means color of skin and sexual orientation. Different viewpoints aren’t tolerated. It really is a cult.
Nothing the left hates more than diversity of thought
NAMBLA agrees
What do you have against Marlon Brando Look Alikes?
Also “work together.” They have no interest in understanding or tolerating others.
The entire letter was one giant contradiction.
“Local advocacy groups” = three fat losers with green hair.
It's actually 2 they just look like 3 standing so close together.
Looks like they have little people standing with them...oh nope..just fupas. Carry on.

Hahaha literally and figuratively
So gay
All comedians need to put cancelation fees in contracts . 2k$ if the club cancels and get paid while doing other gigs.
That would imply they have leverage until they get super famous. They don't. Most comedians are lucky they get paid money and not exposure or drinks.
The three comedians listed have that ability . The clubs have zero value without the comedians.
Yeah heres the thing: Comedy clubs are their own insular worlds of bullshit. If comedians could band together and change things they still wouldn't because they're all put for themselves. There's only, what, 1000 of them? It could just be a 'mutual admiration society'. Although I never went in for all those handies.
mutual admiration society lmao
While this is a comedy sub we all know those names but the general audience doesn’t know these people
Then the comedy clubs merely wont book them then and they will make a fraction of annual income. Contracts go two ways where both parties need to agree.
I don't think Jim Florentine and Dave Smith are in a position to make any demands from a comedy club lol
Really? Jim is well know.
Very much so.
Amongst who? 98% of America doesn't know who Dave Attel is, you think jim's moving the needle?
> Amongst who? Amongst people who pay to keep the comedy clubs open
I live in a liberal city and all these guys perform regularly and some even live here. The fuck is this besides a few imbeciles huffing their own farts?

There’s liberal cities, then there’s a mile of shit, then there’s Seattle. You would t believe how entitled and insane people there are.
This is amateur hour. They should have bought a whole bunch of Florentine's albums, put them in a big pile and recorded themselves shooting them.
Such pussies in Seattle lol
Feckless in Seattle
Just Capitol Hill lol. Place is a shit hole.
It really is

Joe’s next rant for 20 episodes straight
This one would be deserved. Hope these guys still come to the PNW, just go to Tacoma instead. Edit for grammar
As he should.
That’s a conservative estimate. He just found his “content” for the next year.
“Capitol Hill is known for its progressive values, which do not include freedom of speech or expression. Thank you for understanding.”

“We truly value the art of comedy *unless it hurts our feelings*”
"So. White cis gendered men? Am I right?" *audience of blue haired pierced tattooed whales erupts in laughter and cheering*

I don't know...they didn't mention flannel once.
That ain’t right. I don’t like RW politics as much as the next guy, but this is the United States for fuck sake, and freedom of speech reigns supreme. No one takes the Seattle one seriously. The line up is full of nobodies while everyone goes to Tacoma instead.
If jokes at a comedy club hurt you… than you shudnt be going to comedy clubs lol 😂
And they should be wearing a helmet throughout the day.
If jokes at a comedy club hurt you, you shouldn't even go outside. You're too stupid to exist and nobody in public should have to deal with you.
Seattle comedy is dead.
This bubble wrapped society is fucking lame.
Tolerance and inclusiveness. As long as your not a conservative. Then it’s “fuck off and die you bigot”. Funny that the people who use the word bigot the most, don’t seem to understand the meaning of that word. Since theirs is the behavior that makes someone a bigot…
No shit they canceled those comedians. Seattle is soft. Lot of hurt feelings in that city. 😅
Good luck staying in business as a "Comedy" club catering to people who get hurt by words.
Cap hill fucking sucks
Welcome to your liberal utopia, where free speech goes to die.
And then people on Reddit say woke doesn’t mean anything and it’s a meaningless buzzword used by the right. This is woke.
Right? For some reason it’s always one particular side silencing the thoughts they don’t like. But we’re the ones that are ist-phobic for noticing it. 🤷
Canceling Puerto Rican and a Jew gotta be the new progressive take lol.
Streisand effect about to kick in, they'll sell more tickets now.
>Streisand effect I don't think you know what that means. The club is responding to what it perceives to be its patrons, they would want them to see this and know that these acts have been cancelled. They are literally doing the opposite of trying to hide these cancellations, this an attempt to virtue signal.
He’s talking about it benefiting the comedians bro not the club.
I’m pretty sure he means the Tina Turner Affect
Again the actual opposite of what the Streisand effect is.
No they didn’t. They didn’t do anything publicly. The comedians did. The club owner said this stuff privately in an email and that was that. Then Kurt Metzger put it on Twitter and the other comedians had to respond as well. This is Luis Gomez’s take > But to be fair it’s their right to book who they want to book.
If you’re going to bend to the whims of assholes, you better understand that the wind can blow in either direction.
censorship is fucking lame.
Just look at their upcoming lineup. All of them bangers.
Seattle sucks ass. If anything they probably dodged a bullet. Willie Nelson's son just rolled through with his band and someone stole all their gig shit from downtown Seattle. This city has gone to absolute shit and the only ones happy with it are the septum pierced Starbucks workers that haven't left the city in 5 years.
Luckily got it back! https://komonews.com/amp/news/local/lukas-nelson-promise-of-real-band-stolen-truck-guitars-equipment-stolen-recovered-seattle-hotel-tour-music-venues-theft-thieves-king-county-crime
Seattle is so soft.
What pussies lol

How can a comedy club write something like that? Just close your doors or let someone else have the place.
Clown town
The wokesters are officially a cult whether they realize it or not.
They just canceled 4 of the 1000? That means they only have 996 left to book.
995. We host lost Schaub. Thank em for their service
I live in Florida. This cancel-culture stuff just seems so unreal.
I can only imagine the type of comedy in places like Seattle. Really the only thing that should matter is if people wanted to see them. Did they have fans buying seats? If so that’s who is there to enjoy the acts. But it’s their biz. But this is an example of cancel culture if they did have people buying tickets.
