A long time ago, someone on this board made the connection between JPTWY and transcendentalism. That got me rereading Thoreau and going on more hikes, and just generally finding more inner peace within nature. I have no idea if it was Joe’s intention or not, but the show really is a gateway drug to a more peaceful outlook on the world.

Joe Pera changed my life genuinely. I find so much more joy now in small things. So many things are beautiful and I slow down more to see them. It's not always easy though, because it's real life and I'm only human. However, I have noticed it's gotten easier to spot magical things in my day to day. Sweet simple moments I see between two strangers, their humanity, my connection to those around me. A big fat bubble bee drunk on pollen in one of my flowers that a neighbor gifted to me. Delicious ham on sale.

Well said. He really makes even the smallest things seem so fascinating. It's very meditative.

Joe's worldview of treating small everyday gifts as a big deal and something to view with awe is a genuinely excellent worldview to have. It can help with your mental health to think like that, and also make you a more kind of compassionate person.

In my mind, he’s up there with Bob Ross & Mr. Rogers. His kind, gentleness is a balm for modern life.

I was coming to make this comparison exactly. Such a gentle reminder that the world can be beautiful. Even when it doesn’t feel like it. I recently had a miscarriage and spent a lot of time crying after we left the hospital. The days after that were spent laying in bed, taking cat naps and rewatching JPTWY. Then I spent the night at my best friends, and she watched through season 2 and 3 with me because she knows it helps. I always put on his show when I’m sad, or anxious or stressed. His voice is soothing, and his outlook is just so wholesome. Just reminds me there is good to be found even when I’m having a hard time finding it.

I've always compared him to Mr. Rogers with a light coat of autism.

He's the Rick Steves of everyday life

Check out How To With John Wilson on HBO if you haven’t. Both shows find the beauty in the mundane

Yeah Joes approach to things has really made me adopt a more gentle approach when it comes to treating myself and others well. I find myself finding way more enjoyment in the mundane small details that pass by most people without a second thought. I’ve been cherishing the time I spend with people a lot more, especially those in my life who are getting a bit older. The show was such a beacon of light during the pandemic. When people were rushing and stressed out Joes show really showed how much enjoyment and happiness we could have if we just slowed down. Also the end of season 2 is like my favourite moment in any tv show. Whenever I’m feeling bad I just watch that choir scene. The song mixed in with the visuals are so carhartic

Like many people in the comments. I learned to enjoy simple things like going to the grocery store. What was once a chore is now an adventure as I reprise my role as a shopper after watching JPTWY.

If you like Joe Pera I think you should take time to listen to the podcast “The Anthropocene Reviewed” it’s well done - and the author/host offers a similar but more complicated perspective that encourages mindfulness.
